Sushi Trailblazer Cafe Japengo Closing After 30 Years - Eater San Diego
"First opened in 1990, Cafe Japengo will close this month after nearly three decades at Hyatt Regency La Jolla. The Asian-fusion eatery and sushi bar, helped develop local tastes for creatively-topped sushi rolls with signature creations including the Tootsie Roll and the Pizza Rolls. Japengo will shutter after dinner service on Friday, June 22; word is that it will be replaced by a national fitness chain." - Candice Woo

Been doing here for more than a decade. Live the place. Sushi is great but there are other dishes too. I stick to sushi. There's a bar area as well as the traditional seating area. Calamari appetizer is nicely flavored but filling. Can't go wrong with Sushi. Reasonable wine list. Moscow Mule is really good. If you dont want to use valet parking, you can part in the underground parking lot at Hyatt and get parking ticket validated after dinner.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious fresh food offerings. The sushi melts in your mouth. I can see why this place is rated as one of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego. It is beyond expectations!

Fried rice was excellent! Everyone loved the Sushi!! It was so beautiful, too pretty to eat if you ask me! Friendly staff!

Pricey but absolutely delicious. Service was a bit slow but it was a slightly busy lunch. Definitely a must try.

Food was OK. Wait staff were wonderful. Extremely NOT here for the class war worker-hating "disclaimer" inserted into the menu, and will not patronize this place again due to its presence.

I'm giving them a 5 stars because the staff was excellent, the food was delicious, the bathrooms were clean, and parking was free. Our Waitress was very polite, always in reach when we needed her, she also had great suggestions as we were a group there for lunch (some of us 1st timers).
Overall great experience, would suggest to all types of patrons.

Jen was a wonderful, welcoming hostess who not only answered my many questions on first visit, but checked back on my comfort and provided directions for my husband related to parking. Sushi chef was nice. Sushi rolls were delicious and very satisfying. Looking forward to our next visit.
