"Cafe Josie, the longtime New American restaurant in Clarksville, is now closed permanently, as reported by Austin 360. It was located at 1200 West Sixth Street. Owner Cody Taylor believed that his rent was going to 'double' when the lease ended next year, as he told the publication. Cafe Josie's landlord (who owns the entire plaza) is Larry McGuire, the co-partner behind the restaurant group McGuire Moorman Hospitality. McGuire's seafood restaurant Clark's is right next door to Cafe Josie. Despite 'four record-breaking years in a row' in terms of sales, Taylor still needed to ramp up business in anticipation of that rent spike. He wanted to expand with additional services, like lunch and catering, but needed to change and expand the physical restaurant. However, he said that McGuire 'was not amenable to expansions of the restaurant’s footprint.' The likely future hike in rent, plus the fact that the restaurant had temporarily closed in mid-March, along with the rest of the city's restaurants, in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, meant that the restaurant didn’t have enough business nor sales to stay open. McGuire wouldn’t comment on Cafe Josie’s plans nor his future plans for the address to Austin 360. Cafe Josie opened in 1997 by chef Charles Mayes. Taylor, who worked at the restaurant under Mayes, bought the restaurant in 2013. He brought along executive chef Todd Havers in 2015. The restaurant added all-you-can-eat dinner and brunch experiences in 2015 and 2017. Taylor is still involved with San Marcos restaurant Industry, which opened in 2018." - Nadia Chaudhury

The food: Some of the best I had in Austin. I absolutely loved the salmon, which was cooked perfectly with a grilled exterior and amazingly moist interior. Even the squash was delicious, and I normally don't even like squash! I also loved the brussel sprouts and crab fried rice, but I honestly liked pretty much everything we got, down to the bread and butter. Everything is served in small plates for the tasting menu, and two of us ate 16 plates (and we really aren't big eaters normally). There's also a decent drinks menu to pair with your dinner. The restaurant: A very quaint place that seems like a converted house (maybe it is?) I definitely didn't realize it was the restaurant we were looking for at first. I feel like some of the walls are a bit bare, but it wasn't too bad. The bottom line: The all you can eat tasting menu is a unique take on a buffet where you pick and choose from a list of small plates rather than piling your plate high. What this accomplishes are fresh dishes and minimal food waste. I highly recommend stopping by if you're seeking a nice, cozy dinner.

Absolutely loved this place! Will be going back. We tried The Experience and so glad we did. We ended up trying all but 2 things on the menu for $35 a person. Everything was delicious. The fried brussel sprouts and salmon were my favorites. Our waiter Wade was awesome. He's knew the menu and was able to make recommendations based off what we liked, and has a wonderful sense of humor. If you haven't checked this place out yet, you really need to.

There's a lot of things in life that I truly appreciate and one of them is great food. Cafe Josie has the most talented chefs in Austin. The food is unique, always served fresh, and the atmosphere makes for the perfect date night!

Google
My wife and I came here for date night. We both had The Experience which was amazing. We tried 9 different dishes and loved all of them, but the pork belly, the brussel sprouts and the deviled eggs really stood out for us. We normally love pork belly anyways, but the smell of the grill infused into the cauliflower confit provided this amazing balance to the pork belly. I normally dislike eating brussel sprouts, but they roasted and seasoned these perfectly that I had two extra helpings. Service was great and very attentive, bringing out the dishes as we were finishing other dishes so that we neither felt impatient nor rushed. Over all it was a great evening, and if we had the opportunity to, we'd come back again.

Google
Really outstanding small plates. Lots of flavor in everything we ate. The roasted Brussell sprouts and wedge salad were perfect. We did the "Experience" and were absolutely stuffed afterwards. The mixed drinks were also expertly crafted.

Google
Wow. Just wow. Cafe Josie offers an astonishing variety of tastes and textures, plated beautifully and served efficiently. There was lots to like, but the smoked meatloaf was amazing and the fried Brussels sprouts was eye-popping. They also served a mezcal that has totally changed my outlook on that liquor. All in all, this was an unforgettable evening.

Google
Throw down on a Friday or Saturday night and get treated to an unlimited plate dining experience. Every single option was phenomenal, with the stand outs being the Salmon, brussel sprouts, and the crab fried rice. It'll be an expensive check, but for the quality and diversity you get, it is a very fair price.

Our boss took us here for a small little Christmas party. We put our white elephant gifts under the tree it was super cute. The experience was truly an amazing experience. We got to go through the whole menu and order some of our favorites after. They had great drinks too! Unforgettable experience!!!

Yelp
Coming back to write yet another review for my favorite restaurant in Austin.. If you don't believe me, this is where I went immediately after getting married at the courthouse. Not only were we treated with such amazing care and complimentary champagne, the food was as expected, outstanding (although I am sad they took their chicken and watermelon salad off the menu). Nonetheless, their seasonal menu and open kitchen never ceases to amaze me. The ambiance is business casual, natural lighting, modern century with a touch of art deco, and it's everything you could ask for and more, every. single. time.

Yelp
Our daughter kept talking about Pecan Square Cafe~ so we finally made it for their Happy Hour We were seated at a corner table in the bar, PERFECT Our server (she might have new) was LOVELY ~ making polite suggestions & not rushing us through our app choices... Started with cocktails, an Old Fashion for my Hubs + I ordered a speciality cocktail BOTH were da bomb It was quite hot outside both were served ice cold sooooo mine was PERFECTION in a stemmed glass. Our apps were TERRIFIC starting with zucchini fries, served golden & crunchy with salt....OOOOMG, as good or better than french fries Also the Mushroom quesadilla, who needs meat when you have this much DELISHHHHNESS on a TORTILLA? Our main consisted of a potato truffle pizza (no overwelmed with truffle) beautiful chew in the crust, the toppings cooked expertly, this is artisan pizza not the neighborhood pizza joint. This is a relaxed atmosphere bar/restaurant providing GR8 service, XCELLANT Cocktails & Food ~ Definitely will be a regular at Pecan Square Cafe

Yelp
I've heard positive reviews from others and have had Pecan Square on my list to try for quite some time. Maybe it was an off night when we went? We were sat at a booth like table near the bar. The seats were wet and sticky when we first sat down. The service seemed rushed at times, and nonexistent at others. They brought out most of our starters, but forgot some. We asked for certain dishes to be split (which they said they could), but they didn't. When the entrees were served they brought three of the four, but forgot to prepare the fourth all together (fish entree). This resulted in one of us not getting our entree until the rest had already finished. The food was good, but nothing amazing. The drinks were nice. Maybe, just maybe, I might go there again for drinks at the bar. Maybe.

Yelp
Tucked just off West 6th in Clarksville, Pecan Square is a great comfort food spot that adds a little elegance to the standard comfort fare. We shared several items including their unique spin on the Cesar salad and a very hefty pork chop. Cocktails were delicious and the service and ambiance were more than delightful. Do yourself a favor and add Pecan Square to your downtown-ish dining list.

Yelp
After reading some great reviews of the Pecan Square Cafe we stopped in for lunch. The restaurant is in a great location with ample street parking. There is patio seating and the inside seating area was well decorated with large ceiling windows for views of trees. Our waitress was very friendly and our order was served quickly. We ordered the pizza and the porchetta sandwich...and they were delicious. Nothing was left on either of our plates. There were several other items on the lunch menu that looked delicious so we're already planning our return trip!

Quin T.

Yelp
Very cute outdoor area that would be very enjoyable once the temperatures cool down. The inside has a great vibe with a lively bar area. It is very hard to find a decent happy hour and I think Pecan Square may have one of the best offerings around with 1/2 price bottles of wine and 1/2 price pizzas Monday-Friday from 3-5pm. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the happy hour, but we did enjoy our meal of zucchini fritti, maltagliati, agnolotti and pork schnitzel. The presentation was lovely and the portions were great and not too heavy. They also have a great wine selection and the Paul Prieur Sancerre paired lovely with all of our choices. The hosts were extremely welcoming and our waitress was very nice.

Yelp
Visited Austin once again and came across this highly recommended hidden gem, lovely intimate ambiance. The menu is truly creative, with mouthwatering seasonal flavors that did not disappoint! We started with the PSC Old Fashioned, which was absolutely spot on--thank you! Here's what we ordered: Adagio Salumeria Fiocco: Served with perfectly flavored figs. Ouefs Mayonnaise: The mayo had a perfect hint of garlic and was beautifully seasoned. Zucchini Fritti: My absolute favorite! The green mint dipping sauce was a delightful pairing. Butterscotch Squash: A standout dish--perfectly cooked and served with roasted fall nuts and butter. Truly heartwarming! Grilled Eggplant Salad: I have a weakness for eggplant, and this dish hit the spot. The peppers and light vinegar paired wonderfully with the delicious bread. Blistered Habanada Peppers: These were a perfect complement to everything. Oyster Mushroom Pizza: Wow! This was absolutely amazing--definitely a must-try! Sausage and Shishito Pizza: A hit with the boys. The tomato sauce was perfection. Pork Schnitzel: Expertly breaded and seasoned, with mustard that was the perfect accompaniment. Finally, for dessert, we enjoyed the seasonal Crostata with olive oil ice cream and sea salt--a perfect ending to an incredible meal. Thank you, Chef Chelsea Fadda, for such a wonderful experience!

Yelp
Pecan Square Cafe has carved a niche for itself in our brunch rotation and it's easy to see why. The charming outdoor patio, adorned with vibrant greenery and a picturesque koi pond, creates a delightful atmosphere that enhances the overall dining experience. What sets this place apart, aside from its aesthetic appeal, is its dog-friendly policy, making it a perfect choice for pet lovers. Our furry friend is always warmly welcomed, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to our visits. The brunch menu, though small, is a testament to quality over quantity. Each dish feels carefully curated, and the flavors are nothing short of delicious. It's evident that the kitchen takes pride in their offerings, as each item is thoughtfully prepared. From savory to sweet, the menu caters to various preferences without overwhelming diners with choices. Conveniently located in West 6th, Pecan Square Cafe becomes not just a brunch spot but a starting point for a day of exploration. The ability to easily walk to other nearby attractions enhances the overall appeal of this location. Additionally, while there's a small parking lot in the back, we've had no trouble finding street parking in the surrounding areas / side streets in the residential area.

Yelp
Pecan Square Cafe has uniqueness tucked in Austin. The building painted pink helps you find it location. Tucked in between so many businesses makes it feel hidden but ounce you arrive you feel seen. There is an opening with blankets and an outdoor seating area. The charm is at all time high here. Upon walking in the service is phenomenal, genuine and friendly. We came towards the end of brunch on a Saturday. Our server was informative as it was our first time. We had a cherry lemonade, non alcohol drink. The cherry lemonade was superb! For an appetizer we had the zucchini fritters. The fry was perfection! Crispy and light. The cilantro sauce was good but could use a little less lime...but so refreshing. We had burgers one with fries and one with lettuce aka the best salad you'll ever have!!! The lettuce, cilantro and dressing is so fresh and crisp it makes you wish you had a larger version. The burgers have Buffalo cheese, heirloom tomatoes and pickles with a Dijon that makes me like Dijon. The buns are toasted and the combination of all the fresh items is a burst of flavor you want to devour. All in all Pecan Street Cafe is a must stop in Austin!

Mariel T.

Yelp
Our top items on the menu = sweet potato fritters and ofc the sticky bun! We'd pass on the schnitzel next time, it wasn't bad but it also wasn't mind blowing (they set such a high standard our first trip!!).

Hannah M.

Yelp
One of the best places in Austin for seasonal cooking! The restaurant is vibey, quaint, and everything we had was to die for. The service was incredible, as well.

Megan L.

Yelp
Pecan Square Cafe is another spot I really wanted to like but missed on a lot of aspects. Let's talk about the pros first. We came on a Sunday afternoon, but we missed brunch by an hour. Right off the bat, my friends and I were stunned by how beautiful the space is. It's not a very large cafe, but pictures do not do this place justice. It's gorgeous. There is so much natural lighting, and no matter where you sit, the vibe is so nice. I tried my best to capture how stunning the interior is, but I don't think I managed to. It's stunning in a very natural way because they allow the space to speak for itself. There's not a lot of over-the-top decor or furniture, but there seems to be light that shines into every crack of the restaurant. You have to visit during daytime hours to se what I'm talking about. The rest of this review is going to be reserved for the cons. Someone else mentioned this as well, so I'm glad I'm not the only person who felt this way, Our server was really off. He didn't smile a single time, and the other reviewer said her server seemed like he almost "begrudgingly wanted to serve them". I'm not sure if we both had the same person, but that's exactly how I felt with our server. I felt really bad for asking him for a sauce or another piece of silverware, but I certainly should not be feeling that way. His attitude was really not it. The food is incredibly mediocre, and I didn't like our espresso martinis at all. They were incredibly bitter and acidic. The pizza and pesto pasta both were pretty bland and under seasoned, and I found myself just leaving the food on my plate after a few bites. Pecan Square Cafe is also by no means a cheap establishment, so it felt bad to visit and not really like anything that we ordered.

Meghan B.

Yelp
Food is always incredible. Great vibes, very cozy and comfortable. Consistently friendly service - one of my favorite go to spots.

Abby S.

Yelp
Overall this restaurant has a nice aesthetic, however the menu selections weren't very expansive making it slightly difficult for our whole family to find something they were excited to order/try. We went for my brothers birthday and he has both a gluten and dairy allergy. When he told our server she all but forced him to get the pork chop because in her words "that's the easiest one and won't cause our kitchen to have to work harder". He really wanted the steak and she basically said no. Then when his pork chop came out there were absolutely no sides for him. The cocktail menu was definitely unique and they do have a spritz of the day, which was very tasty. Not really sure if we'll rush back for a second visit. Worth a try at least once though.

Steven L.

Yelp
Played some weeknight pickleball and needed to refuel with dinner afterwards. My friend and I happened upon Pecan Square and were able to get seated outdoors without having to wait. The ambience if this place is really nice, perfect for a date. The building is behind Clark's Oyster bar and is sort of unassuming until you walk up the path towards it. I thought the design of the restaurant was nice, felt like a fancy cabin lodge. We ordered a few things: Sweet Potato Fritters - Very fluffy but crispy on the outside, I'm not a huge sweet potato person but I really enjoyed these Escarole Caesar - nicely tossed, the croutons were a bit too fried for my liking but some may appreciate the crunch. Handcut Tagliatelle - very nice, a pretty simple dish but done really well Mountain Rose Potato Pizza - I had a slice of this from my friend and thought it was tasty. The pizza dough was very fluffy but not too thick, just the way I like it. Honestly, a really cool spot and kind of hidden from the other restaurants on the street. Would come back here again to try some of their other dishes.

Mimi L.

Yelp
Out for a solo meal and I could not stop ooing and ahhhhing over EVERY SINGLE COURSE. After a long work day this was such a lovely reward. Literally loved everything about my dinner experience and that's despite the heavy rain this evening. The setting and overall vibe is spot on. Every single staff person I interacted with was stellar. They made me feel like they sincerely wanted me to love the entire experience....and I did. The attention to every detail was not missed on me. The olives were the perfect snack with my wine. The eggs were DREAMY! The crab was perfectly seasoned and literally all Crab meat with lovely crunchy and colorful radishes with sprinkles of the perfect amount of Italian parsley. My pasta was heavenly. And the cantaloupe sorbet was as if a snowflake met, fell in love with, married and had a baby with a cantaloupe...this would be their baby of deliciousness. And the sprinkling of Maldon salt flakes put it over the top. I left so very full but so content. This is a MUST in Austin.

Stu D.

Yelp
Food: every dish was excellent. Provençal salad, Burger, Porchetta, Schnitzel, marinated olives, and peppers. Service: Michael was outstanding. Knew the dishes, great recommendations on wine. Ambiance: we ate outside. Not adequate shade for all diners at every table. Suggest dining inside.

Christopher T.

Yelp
MML Hospitality Group has hit another one out of the park! Opened under a year ago, Pecan Square Café has a bright and airy feel to it. The staff was exceptionally accommodating despite the fact that my brother arrived over thirty minutes after the start of the reservation. [Thank you and apologies!] I figured -- since I saw every single other table in the place order them -- that the Sweet Potato Fritters would be amazing. They were ... just okay. But the Broccolini Pizza was perfect. (They use the dough from MML's "Favorite Pizza" for the crust -- YUM!) You know that you've a good thing going when two New Yorkers can sit across from each other at a table in Austin and both be pleased with the pizza. With the sunshine beaming in through the windows and the city skyline visible just beyond the glass, this is a really nice spot for a pleasant, quiet weekday lunch.

Josh R.

Yelp
Went to Pecan Square Cafe for my birthday, and I had an amazing time. If you're looking for an amazing dining experience in Austin, look no further than Pecan Square Cafe. You won't be disappointed! Before I get into the food review, I want to say Tamara (our server) was just amazing. Tamara asked if it was our first time there, and she was so nice, sweet, and amazing. Tamara helped us pick out items to eat and even brought us items to try. Honestly, we were so happy Tamara was our server. Now to the food... Food was delicious and amazing. Here is what we ordered, and I recommend ordering everything below. I will definitely be back -- Beef Carpaccio -- Squash Blossom Pizza -- 44-Farms Bavette Steak -- Chocolate Mousse

Dana R.

Yelp
Cute place with limited menu. Had the burger at dinner as nothing else appealed to me. It was good but pricey. Very surprised to find out they fry their fries in Canola Oil! Garbage seed oil which is so bad for you. Most higher end places are frying in duck fat, Avacado oil, tallow or something much healthier. I don't mind paying more for a meal but really don't expect inferior oils to be used. Wait staff however was great.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
super delicious meal! i got the porchetta sandwich and that was 10/10! super filling and flavorful! i'd get this again and again! the lettuce is also a popular app and it was surprisingly good and fresh! it is just lettuce so don't except anything crazy, but i can say it's the best lettuce i've ever had! good little snack to snack on while waiting for your main! super cute interior too! street parking, but i've never had a problem finding close parking

Braden J.

Yelp
It's a cafe and it's got pecans (desserts). Sometimes things just go so well together not only in name. Pecan Square Cafe is a nice little local place perfect for a brunch day or just a simple escape. Atmosphere: Atmosphere is top notch, this really breaks away the reality that you are in Austin and more so the feeling that you are in a simple Italian cafe, complete with food and theme to boot Food: I came here during brunch so most the dishes I got may be limited to their brunch menu. Right off the bat I'll say their star shiner is the Pecan Sticky bun, as appropriate with the name. The right amount of sweetness with a warm savory bun complimented with Pecans makes this worth a visit. For my entrees I first got the Sausage and Shishito Pepper Pizza, very tasty but ultimately way too spicy for a brunch dish in my opinion. The waitress was very nice and allowed me to get the Chickpea Crepe Suzette. Better option for sure a little tart for my liking but better. Again of all the dishes the one that stood out are the ones that are more brunch centric, such as coffee and the sticky bun. Service: As noted above the staff is very friendly. My waitress was very attentive and helped me find suggestions when I needed. If you're in the mood for a brunch day, this is worth a visit. Certain dishes may appeal more to others but the overall theming and staff really sell this place to be noteworthy.

Brittney D.

Yelp
It was superb. It was beautiful: cozy and elevated at the same time. Our service was perfection, our waitress offered suggestions that were spot on, I'm talking EACH course. I ate up the sweet potato fritters, the catch of the day: skin on snapper in a dill Beurre blanc AND my dessert: some dreamy apple deal, wrapped in a crisp pastry. I don't even like apple pie. But last night, I loved it! This place gets nothing but high marks in my book and I'll def be back. Two word review: get dessert.

Lili T.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place while walking my pups around the block from our AirBnb. I liked the location and the outdoor environment, so we decided to check it out the next morning. Let me say one of the BEST experiences of receiving high quality service. I'm not even sure who our waiter/waitress was because everyone was helping us! Our water glass wasn't allowed to go empty, they asked which type of water we even preferred, one person got our drinks, another got our food, multiple people poured our water, another checked on us and brought our food out. This place was SPOTLESS clean, like drop your fork on the floor and still use it kind of clean, but then again if that would have happened they probably wouldn't have even let me pick it up off the floor. The waitresses/waiters had outstanding personality, joked along with us, and made us feel every bit of welcomed. The bathroom, let me say I didn't want to leave it. The lighting, the candle, the ambiance, the feeling of calmness that was created for the bathroom..just wow! I didn't even have to go but was told that I had to check out the bathroom so obviously I had to lol. Now to the food..delicious, superb! Very well put together, every bite had you wanting the next. Zero complaints here, only high quality compliments! Very nicely done, keep your staff happy please because they are the sprinkles on top of the icing!

Em P.

Yelp
Gorgeous, gorgeous interiors. The staff were eager and friendly, and did not rush us at all during our 3 hour stay. I felt genuinely welcomed in the space and the menu for tonight was perfectly considered and not at all pretentious. The chocolate mousse is bomb.

Schelly Y.

Yelp
Considering how challenging it is to get reservations for Austin restaurants, I feel like Pecan Square is a "hidden gem". They were busy on a weeknight but overall obtaining reservations was pretty easy. Lovely ambiance and service with good food. The fish was and pasta were spot on. Summer Melon Pecorino Romano, Hungarian wax chili, mint ~ 15 Foie Gras Mi-Cuit sherry gelée, toast ~ 28 Sweet Potato Cavatelli Calabrian peppers, nutmeg, Pecorino Romano ~ 24 Daily Fish creamer peas, new potatoes, olives, salsa verde ~ 38

Knox H.

Yelp
Went for brunch last week. The grilled cheese and side salad were great. I'd go back just for the strawberry daiquiri! Nice servers and good bartenders.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Open airy. Cute. White tablecloths. Service generally attentive. Menu does change and evolve. Not a ton of parking so you may need to street park. We came for dinner and generally thought the food was good and the drinks were well crafted. For food: Zucchini strings - fried zucchini strings with aioli - twas a huge mound. Great at first but then just got a little greasy as it cooled down (maybe too much of a good thing) Chilled Crab salad - Tasty with cucumbers, tarragon aioli and green tomatoes. Cavatelli - with sweet potatoes and shaved park. I liked this dish. Daily Fish - sautéed with a tomato based sauce. Pretty good.

Kolby G.

Yelp
Super fun little spot, quite the hidden gem. Brunch: Pecan Sticky Bun - 4/5 Texas Blueberry Tea Cake - 4/5 Homegrown Tomato Pizza with Egg - 5/5 Grilled Kale Sausage - 4/5 The pastries are sooo good! The blueberry cake is super delicious. Pizzas are huge! Definitely add the egg. Very tasty. Kale sausage was unique and flavorful. Service is a tad on the slow side.

Charles W.

Yelp
Food and service is wonderful. We were a table of five and everyone was happy. They do have a small outdoor seating area and we almost sat there, but dined inside instead. Great ambiance.

Brenda G.

Yelp
This place is lovely! I made a reservation for a group of girlfriends for brunch. There was plenty of availability. It's a bit hard to find as it is in the middle of a complex, a little hidden from the street. At 11 am it was not busy at all. Our server was fantastic. She was really sweet and down to earth. She recommended the caramelized cheeseburger. The burger itself was great, the fries were okay. I had the summer daisy for a cocktail and it was fantastic.

Courtney M.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible food with equally incredible service. Perfect for date night! Served was super knowledgeable about menu and wine selection.

Lauren G.

Yelp
What an absolute gem of a restaurant! My boyfriend and I went here on a date night on Friday and had a great time. Service was superb! Door opened for us when we walked in, sat at table right away, waiter was great, food came out fast. Don't know if I've had this great of service in Austin in a long time. The manager was even helping out as well. They take good care of you. Started off with a beer and cocktail: Bie's Knees. Delicious!! We skipped the appetizers this meal and I'm very happy we did so we could get a salad and three entrees instead. The local lettuce was literally just lettuce. It was good with great dressing, I just wish there was some cherry tomatoes or maybe some Parmesan on there. We then split two pastas: the sweet potato cavatelli and the handcut tagliatelle. Both were delicious and my favorite part of the meal. They had a little bit of a kick - I wouldn't say spicy because I don't like spicy but it was unexpected. I would get both dishes again. Then we split the sausage and pepper pizza, it was okay. The actually pizza with the sauce, crust, etc was good. I personally didn't like the sausage and peppers. I wish they just did a normal pepperoni pizza, it would be delicious. Overall, fantastic date night spot. It is pricey, so be ready to spend some money. Our meal came out to around $140. Pros: service, bar, atmosphere, pasta Cons: pricey, limited menu

Daphne L.

Yelp
We came for an early dinner so we only had two of the homemade pasta dishes. The goats milk ricotta anolini stuffing was flavorful with just the right amount in each pillow served in a rich creamy sauce. The cavatelli with corn was also creamy and cooked perfectly. The server was very attentive and encouraged us to order more. We were there on the early side so the restaurant was half full inside and very quiet- the outside patio had a better vibe at that time

Jackie K.

Yelp
We had a delightful lunch at Pecan Square Cafe--every dish we had was wonderful! To start, we had pecan sticky buns (it was lunch on the weekend, so I guess brunch), and they were so tasty. Next, we had a pesto tagliatelle pasta--even though it was a pasta, it was so light and airy, and I'm sure the pasta was handmade; I couldn't get enough. To finish, we had a sausage and shishito pepper pizza--it took a smidge longer to come out to our table, but it was perfect and so worth it, with a chewy yet crispy crust. Service at Pecan Square Cafe was almost as delightful as the food. Our server was super nice and accommodating, as was the hostess. Delightful spot!

Tara P.

Yelp
I'm glad we got to experience this new restaurant in Austin. I made reservations in advance online for 5pm (Monday evening). We got there and clearly did not need reservations as the restaurant was basically empty at that time. We noticed it started getting some traffic closer to 6pm. They do have happy hour but it only goes until 5pm (too early in my opinion). The location was a little tricky to find, it's basically tucked behind Clark's and the art gallery. The nice thing is the gallery parking spots are available at 5pm which made finding a spot to park easy. Overall the food and ambiance were great. I did find overall that things were overpriced (cocktails were about $17ea) and the cheese ravioli was $28. The chilled snow crab salad is a must!

MaKenzie K.

Yelp
Yum! I dream of the goat milk ricotta and sweet corn ravioli. It was so good that we ordered it a second time for the table. All the pasta was delicious. And the pizza too which I didn't take a photo of. The steak we could have done without, just wasn't our favorite dish compared to everything else. The service was great, and they didn't rush us out when we were finished which I always appreciate. Overall the meal was pricey though, personally I would only return to celebrate a special occasion.

Yelp
Tried the new @pecansquarecafe last night! Started with the Zucchini Frito with a Green goddess dipping sauce and Chilled Snow Crab Salad. Moved onto the Cavatelli pasta with pancetta and pecorino Romano and finished off with the Coulette steak with salsa verde. It's a bit pricy but worth a try. Let us know if you give it a try and what you think!

Yelp
We couldn't wait to try this new MMH cafe. The inside dining area and bar was small but nice. I already had decided on the kale sausage pizza but didn't know if we would have the greens salad or zucchini fries (which looked amazing)! We opted for the salad instead of the huge bowl of fries! Both the pizza and salad were delicious! Now I must return to have those zucchini fries and perhaps sit outside on their patio.

Yelp
Clark's was closed for a private event so we hopped To their Sister restaurant and it was PERFECT! Gus was awesome too! Great good and drinks, perfect price point.

Yelp
Cute spot that was hard to find at first. It's hidden behind Clark's oyster bar. Brunch was overall good but nothing stood out to me. Food: Tangerine with arugula - a little bitter as expected but overall ok Sweet potato fritters - decent Sticky bun - good Chickpea crepe - interesting not used to tasting sweet with the salty ricotta; the crepe itself was really nice Potato pizza - good Papardelle with lamb - the lamb was good but the pasta was too soft for my taste since I love al dente Crostata with ice cream - very good

Yelp
I was so excited to try this spot with my girlfriends. As for pros, PSC has a great ambiance and an amazing wait staff. The drinks were delicious and the highlight of our experience. All of that to say, the food is far overpriced for the portions, and the flavor of each dish was hit or miss. The crab salad and onion fritters were nothing to write home about. The squash blossom pizza was also just okay, but for the price, we were expecting it to be exceptional. The fish entree was probably the most raved about, but again, portions were tiny and my friend was left still feeling hungry after she completed her meal. If you're hungry, the chicken or the steak are your best bets, but expect to pay a premium for those options. One more thing to call out for friends who are gluten-free due to food allergies - there are no clear GF indications on the menu. We emailed in advance to make sure that there would be GF-friendly options available, and were assured that there would be, but the wait staff answerd "I think so" and "maybe" when we asked if certain options were GF upon arrival. She mentioned that she'd follow up to confirm, but that never happened. This may not be a huge issue for people who are gluten insensitive, but for two of my friends who have celiac, this made them quite uncomfortable. TLDR: I spent $90 on two appetizers and two drinks.

Yelp
Pecan doesn't seem like a snooty enough nut. Renaming fancy mixed Nut Cafe given the "your tables not ready can you wait outside in the cold" which we said your nuts. Food was not remarkable the staff is very weird in a creeper sort of way. I'm going to say it. I don't like it but you might. The little mister says he knows what grouper is duh. Save your in unsolicited splaining. Oh the wine was good.

Yelp
Their potato pizza and the gin drink alone should make you wanna go there. We also tried their take on the margherita pizza and it was meh. My friends tried the sausage pizza but even they preferred the potato pizza over their meat pizza. Pricey but the potato pizza is hands down worth it!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, incredible food, and wonderful service! We came here for the first time for lunch and Pablo took great care of us. All his recommendations were right on point and helped us pick out just what we wanted. Delicious!

Yelp
I had high expectations of this restaurant after reading all the great reviews-- we decided to come here for mom's birthday because she loved the Zuni cafe in San Francisco, and we were hoping we could give her a little bit of that. The space itself is beautiful and really does remind us of Zuni, but that's where the similarities end. Service was okay- there was valet in front, which was really nice because parking in that area is a bit tight. We were greeted by all the staff walking in, but our server was a bit...odd. We got the sense that he very begrudgingly wanted to serve us, and generally really didn't want to be there. Maybe it was because we brought out baby with us that he wasn't very excited about? Maybe he was just having an off day-- I get it, having served tables myself, I get that sometimes you're just over waiting on people all day. But ... ya gotta fake it. For food, we got the snow crab salad, which was very delicious. The sweet potato fritters which were very oily and kind of gluey. Mom ordered the pork chop, which was so salty it was almost inedible. My husband got the fish, which we liked, but it sat on a bed of crisp rice that was sitting in a pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl and was also almost inedible. (The server we had raved about how great the rice was, so we were very disappointed that we couldn't even eat it.) I ordered the oyster mushroom pizza, which was really delicious- I had no qualms about it- but I also really love pizza. Overall, ambiance was nice, but the food and service made it not worth it to come back.

Yelp
We came here for a bachelorette party for dinner. Super cute place! When we arrived the table wasn't quite ready so we sat outside and ordered some drinks while we were waiting. They had an option on their menu for a non-alcoholic beverage to be substituted in any of their drinks called "slow rocker", I believe. My friend on the trip was super excited about this because she was not drinking due to possibly being pregnant. We each ordered our drinks and sat chatting still waiting for the table. When the drinks were ready, they waiter came back and was reading off the orders and when it came time to give her the drink, instead of saying the slow rocker cocktail, he said "who ordered the nonalcoholic drink" and since she was trying to not be obvious, she was worried to raise her hand. The waiter repeated "who ordered the alcohol free drink" and she was forced to say she did. I know the waiter didn't think anything of it, but if you are going to have a special non-alcoholic drink on your menu, he should have just called it by the name. It made my friend really upset because of course if lead to questions as to why she wasn't drinking. After that we went inside and sat down at our table. The food was amazing and for 10 girls we did split a lot of food. The pizzas were delicious and the chicken was super flavorful. I would go back next time I am visiting Austin. My only complaint was wishing they hadn't made my friend feel so uncomfortable with drinking a nonalcoholic beverage.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Pecan Square Cafe and visited on two separate occasions for lunch. The restaurant fashions itself after San Francisco's Zuni Cafe where the dry-brined roast chicken is consistently juicy, delicious, and well-roasted and the gnocchi is transcendental. Pecan Square is not the Zuni Cafe. On the first visit, we ordered the $72 roast chicken, a salad, and the tagliatelle. The roast chicken was dry and came sitting on a bed of wet spinach -- which caused the chicken skin to lose its crunch. Not worth $7.20 much less $72. The tagliatelle was not bad, but very rich. On the second trip, I ordered the citrus and arugula salad and the papperdelle. Everything about the citrus salad was wrong. The segmented oranges had their piths removed, but not the seeds. Every orange piece in the salad contained seeds, and the arugula was so oversalted that the salad was inedible. The papperdelle had been dressed in what appeared to be olive oil and was served with plain brisket. It was not good. While the overall feel of the restaurant is lovely and warm, I do not plan to make another trip back.
