The 6 Best Restaurants & Bars In Catskill, New York 2024 - The Catskills - The Infatuation

"Sure, Joust might seem like a regular, mostly-vegan cafe, but it describes itself as a “transcendental gathering space.” In practice, that means you can stop in for a coffee or tea and a quick order of avocado toast and end up staying for an impromptu yoga class or an electronic drone music concert happening in the back lounge. On Fridays, they occasionally stay open late to host a tarot-themed dinner party or vinyl supper club." - clare lagomarsino

Very chill, open space. Various seatings, including for kiddos. Games on the bench in front. Couches in back. Clean tables! Cool decore and calming colors/paint. I had an excellent oatmilk iced matcha! So tasty, with a little vanilla. Little kids seats in front with a few kids toys (Legos, tiles, crayons 🖍)

Google
Brooklyn vibes and farm quality ingredients. I was so impressed with how fresh everything was here! Anything that is served in their homemade bread is a must try! Will make the drive up from Westchester for more <3

Great place for food and coffee / tea. I had a rice bowl and my wife had breakfast pita. Rice bowl was out of this world. Stormy earl gray tea was amazing. Folks here are super friendly and atmosphere here is cozy.

Vegetarians rejoice! Where do I start? How about with the best damn sandwich I've had in years. This place was recommended to us, as my wife and I are vegetarians. I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!

Google
My favorite local cafe in the Mid Hudson Valley. Came for the food (yummy bowls, healthy soups, pastries) and stayed for the people, music & art. Owners are charming, community minded ppl. Do not miss this gem of a place for remote working or enjoying with friends!

Google
Insanely good… we got the early grey over ice with soymilk… two rice bowls with the mushroom “bacon”. SO flavorful, very creative and delicious menu. Peaceful space. Friendly welcoming staff. I wish we lived nearby and could come all the time :’)

We popped in for coffee and a very good cup of Assam tea. The vegetarian menu looks good and was highly recommended by our friends who live locally.

Google
This place is absolutely amazing and delicious! I highly, highly recommend it — you must check it out. Every item on the menu is excellent, and I truly believe it’s one of the best cafes in the area. A total gem!

Yelp
The most interesting things about this place are the cups and the decor. Drinks are weak and the $4 vegan chocolate chip cookie was small, burnt, and so bad I threw it out after one small bite. I was super excited when I realized most of this place is vegan, but was disappointed by flavor. The mocha was okay but lacked significant flavor and the vanilla bean latte must have had actual beans used because it was also lacking flavor but had a mysterious crunch. It's a cute place, though, and maybe other items taste better....

Yelp
A much needed healthy (veggie forward) spot in the heart of catskill! Open and artsy aesthetic with garden views from the back tables. Full coffee bar and healthy options. All vegan and vegetarian! Mostly locally source which is extra cool. Food was flavorful and unique, coffee was good too! Very eco friendly feel, no straws but they have metal ones for you to use. Full disclosure: 4 star experience as the one staff person working was no where to be found for the first 10 minutes we were there and something was burning, but life happens and it's a new spot and don't wanna mess up their rating.

Yelp
Very roomy cafe with a quirky decoration. Once walked me, there is a scent of ginger, very warming. We didn't get the food but did had the coffee and matcha. Maple latte was really good. Matcha was a bit weak with little matcha taste. Overall I would recommend getting coffee. Might even taste the food there in the future.

Yelp
My father and I were passing through and stopped here for lunch. We both ordered the rice bowl, everything was fresh and tasty. Differently will stop in again. Service was great too!

Yelp
We popped in drawn by the iced Earl Grey tea with maple. It was everything we hoped for - yum!!!

Yelp
A lovely and comfortable Catskill spot in the heart of the main drag. The owner is totally hands on and she pays attention to every morsel she serves up with a focus on healthy and tasty choices. Even the pastry won't make you feel too guilty! The espresso drinks are wonderful and prepared by a friendly and skilled barista. If you want to support the arts Joust will help you do that.

Yelp
This is a great low key coffee shop with excellent vegan and gluten free options - a true gem in the area. The coffee was good, the service was great, and the vegan and gluten free "puffs" were excellent. Highly recommend grabbing some of those along with whatever you order. We got the rice bowl (V, GF) and cashew cream cheese toast (they also have gluten free bread) and the vegetable platter, which is three small bowls of kraut, all of which were great. Plenty of space for groups here and enough tables to come and do work. If we lived here we would definitely be regulars.

Yelp
I adore this special place, and so appreciate the owner's hands-on attention and her staff. What I really need in life is reliable hours, reliably great coffee and at least one healthy, satisfying dish I can count on, over and over, and for me it's the GBombs bowl! Shitake bacon, that's my jam. Efficient and thoughtful service, a calm, quiet vibe, and I love the giant flower sculpture, among other attractions.

Yelp
Really happy there is a much needed place with more nutritious option. The decor is quirky and cute. However I do find it overpriced and on top of that the customer is expected to bring over their pot of tea which ok but surprising. Quality is nice but serving size is very small for the price.

Yelp
Beautiful space. Friendly owner and chef. Great coffee. The best avocado toast ever on bread baked locally. Community space featuring music and comedy. We will go whenever we can.

Yelp
Once I land upstate from Bklyn, my first stop is Cafe Joust at 365 Main St in the town of Catskill. All of the Juices are farm fresh, and the coffee is perfectly smooth, my absolute fave...oh, and the food is delicious and Vegan -yay !!! It's all really, Really GOOD!

Yelp
This replaced Hi/lo. I have gone a few times and so far it's nothing but praise. They had a place in Rhinebeck before moving over to this side of the river and expanding their operation. Original I heard this was going to be all vegan but they do have regular milk for coffee. Not sure if the menu is all vegan but everything I got so far has been excellent and seems to be a suitable replacement for the lunches I would get at Mermaid cafe (which also closed) Excited to see and experience the various changes and growth this business will make the next few months as they find their stride in this location.

Yelp
Love the vibe of this wonderful little Vegan art cafe/juice bar right on the main street of Catskill. Took an excellent yoga class here on a Saturday morning, and have become a regular. Love the community atmosphere, and the eclectic menu. Favorite is the Breakfast of Champions Shake. Got a matcha boba today. (see pic)

Delicious food made with fresh ingredients and a unique, artsy space. Can't ask for more!

Yelp
Vibe , food, pastries ... outstanding! The people who run this .. outstanding! Fresh ingredients and great options! Love the avocado pesto toast and the pumpkin muffin was the best i ever had!

Yelp
Avacado toast is out of this world! Juice so fresh and delicious, I really dig that it's served in a glass bottle too.
