Best Places to Get Hawaiian Food for Takeout and Delivery in Seattle - Eater Seattle

"Billed as Seattle’s “first musubi cafe,” this unassuming Bremerton spot has earned accolades for its take on the classic dish. In addition to the traditional version flavored with teriyaki, there’s also vegan musubi with kimchi, a version with Redondo’s Hot Dogs from Oahu, and a Spam bacon avocado option. Available for drive-thru only at the moment, with card payments preferred." - Eater Staff

Finally got to try this! We tried one of each musubi, as well as one coffee and one red bull drink. The last who attended is was super sweet and friendly & everything was delicious. I loved the bacon avocado the most and my spouse loves the spicy tuna. I don't know what kind of sauce came with that spicy tuna but it is amazing. The drinks were too but I don't know if I can order drinks next time. This is drive through *only* and it's really the drinks that delay the drive through as the musubis are already made and it makes me uncomfortable to slow it down. I think the one thing I really don't like is the drive through situation. Only maybe 4-6 cars fit into the area and the rest need to stay out in the street, in the suicide lane waiting for a spot which just gets me all antsy as someone could easily/accidentally cut in front. Also if you are not in a car, are you supposed to stand in the street? Doesn't seem safe. I would think it would be best to have the line snake through the parking lot. OR maybe place an order, get a ticket, wait in car, and have it brought out for drink orders, but they need more than one worker for that. OR maybe a walk-up only would be the best option, so have people park and then they form a line in person. Any of those would mean no one is in the street. Basically the food and the service are amazing, but really wish they could work with the way their setup works.

Google
This place has the best Musubi I've ever had!!!!! Their coffee is absolutely amazing as well. The nice lady Jamie (not sure if that's how you spell it or not) who owns it is absolutely the sweetest most kindest lady ever!!!! Shes also really pretty 😍. The place always has a line lol. They are only open 10AM-2PM & the Musubi runs out fast sometimes so make sure you go early enough if you want some. It says "spicy" tuna & "spicy" chicken but the only thing that makes them "spicy" is the Sriracha Mayo which is AMAZING & not spicy just has a tiny after burn that goes away quickly. You must try this place!!!!!!

It's been so long since I've been here. Jamie is one of the owners. Used to work with her at clearwater casino. Her and her husband have had this spot for a long time and they have always had yummy products. Today they were hosting a car meet for the first time. The turn out was amazing. They have massubi, different kinds of drinks, and some fried noodles. Can't wait to visit again.

Google
Just found this place after living in Bremerton for a year. Wish I’d known about it sooner. The spicy tuna onagiri is amazing - just like you can get in Hawaii or Japan. My husbands had spam musabi and says it’s legit too. Prices are very good too. I will be back for sure!

I've been going to Cafe Kai for years. The staff there always make you feel welcomed and will share in the laughs. I've had many experiences where they've remembered details about me and even my family. They check in and truly make you feel valued as a customer but even more as a person. Their musubi's are equally up to par with their customer service and the coffee? Absolutely delightful. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't tried Cafe Kai to get their Bacon avocado musubi, plantation iced tea, and their dirty chai mac-nut coffee. They are an amazing spot for the Kitsap community.

We’ve been wanting to go here for so long, but they’re always closed when we’re in the area! Our friends picked us up some Musubi this morning and we are hooked! So so good!

Google
Their Bacon Avocado Musubi is so freaking delicious. Their food is always amazing. Love how they only have a drive-thru. It goes by so fast!

Google
Absolutely amazing, both the service and quality of food and beverage are above and beyond, not to mention quick and friendly, the line might be long but the wait is never too long, I highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
LOVE musubi! Service was GREAT. Drive through ONLY, but you can walk up to the window. Coffee is great. They have no decaf-oh well. HiGHLY recommend the Li Hing treats! LOVE the window painting!!!

Yelp
Love this spot! Visited years ago when they had Mike's Shave Ice as a pop up here. Loved the coffee and musubi. I only wish they were open longer and more days so I could visit often. The staff was super friendly and the place looked cool on the inside.

Yelp
Great place, felt like home to me, being from the island, sure gonna miss this place now that I moved

Yelp
There is a bit of a wait in the drive through due to its popularity, but I really love their spam musubi and sauce, it's so good.

Yelp
An all time favorite! My boyfriend and I visit every saturday for musubi and coffee. Pumpkin mac nut latte is particularly delicious. A gem in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Decided to drop by Cafe Kai as my daughter told me about this place but she hadn't had the opportunity to try it out. I'm so glad I could pick up some musubi and drinks for us to try! We had the Plantation Iced Tea and Redbull Mango Lihing drinks. Sooo tasty. Not to mention the stars of the show, the musubi! It was hot, fresh, and so ono. Mahalo nui to the kind store owner. Loved our chat and her customer service reminded me of home. We will be back again.

Yelp
Great place to get musubi outside of Hawaii! Service is always quick and their food is amazing. I really like their Red Bull spritzers too! Highly recommend stopping by this place for lunch but make sure you get there earlier because they do sell out.

Carli T.

Yelp
The bacon avocado is my favorite. Very good size for the price and the staff are super friendly.

Katelyn B.

Yelp
Every food item is delicious. No other place compares. The service is quick. Love the drive thru! Cute art on the outside of the restaurant.

Yelp
The BEST musubis! Very popular place, make sure to get there early or they might run out!

Yelp
One of my favorite places ever. I've tried musubi in Hawaii a LOT and on different islands and Cafe Kai still has the best I've ever had. The avocado bacon is my favorite, and with the mustards and a pink starburst redbull, so good! I drive about 45 minutes just to reach this place and it's worth it every time. To top it off, the girls working are always very sweet.

Yelp
We (husband and I) were looking around for something new and different and we came across Cafe Kai. Definitely not ideal location but the food and coffee are 10/10. Just one of the Teriyaki Spam Musubi (bottom left) that I ordered was enough to satisfy my hunger. It looks so small like I'd have to order 5 to feel full but surprisingly not the case. My husband got the Spam Bacon and Avocado Musubi, we also got the Caramel Mac Nut iced coffee and it was very nutty but that was my own doing with flavor choices. I highly recommend you to try this place just once and let the food do the talking. Thank you mama Jamie

Yelp
Drove over an hour with my son to check out this place after finding it on YouTube. My son tried three different musubis and loved them all. He ordered spicy chicken, teriyaki spam, and the avocado/bacon/spam musubi. I tried the spicy tuna and a bite of his avocado musubi. Both were so so good! My only regret is not buying more . The guava oat milk tea was amazing and so was the plantation black tea! Will definitely be going back and next time I'm definitely ordering more for later. Customer service was amazing as well. We got lucky - made it when there was no line, but after we ordered there was a line of six cars!

Yelp
oh cafe kai oh cafe kai how i love your dirty chai lies. i think of you while i lie and in my mind your caramel moo nut latte flys. flys in my head flys in my heart your matcha tea lattes are the best in the dark

Yelp
Perfect amount of everything. Service was fast and friendly. It's a drive through so you cannot sit in. Food is ono

Analise Nyland A.

Yelp
Owner is so kind and always trying to prop up other local businesses. Everything is always so delicious and she is always open to listening to the type of drink I want and recommending something amazing. It's no wonder there's always a line around the block at opening!

Jane S.

Yelp
Reviews are 100% correct, this is awesome. No dine in only drive through but worth it. Highly recommend

Yelp
This place is really quaint and cute and the staff is really nice. The prices are decent. I got the spicy tuna musubi (at first it seems expensive but it's two huge musubi, so actually a good price). It was really good; canned tuna and spicy sauce. I also got the spicy chicken, which after recently returning from Hawaii I kind of expected katsu chicken, but it was just canned chicken, so extremely similar in taste to the tuna. Still really good and a huge serving. My husband got the teriyaki spam musubi and Portuguese sausage Musubi and said they were great! A caramel Mac nut coffee and it was AMAZING!!!! There are no places to sit here, it's a take out place for sure. I will definitely come back for more musubi :)

Yelp
Musubi?!?! YES, PLEASE!!! And keep it coming! I've been working in the Kitsap Peninsula the past 4 weeks and I have been here at least 2 times per week! And I have heeded the warnings of other reviewers and come early in case they run out - I literally come within 30 minutes of opening, FOMO! Anyway, I have tried most of their musubi's (teriyaki spam; Redondo's Hot Dog, spam, bacon, egg; spam, bacon, avocado; and spicy tuna. My absolute favorite is the spam, bacon, and egg - it's a perfect alternative to the usual breakfast sandwich with an island twist. And I'm also addicted to the pork hash (similar to a dumpling) and the dipping sauce it comes with. I am also in love with the caramel mac nut drink - it's a delicious pick me up, a tad bit sweeter than I'm used to, but still so good. The staff/owners are friendly and I just feel the island love when I walk in. It also helps that they have Island 98.5 FM from Hawaii! Oh Cafe Kai, how I wish you were on the other side of the water, then I would be here all the time! Mahalo for the Ono grub!

Yelp
I followed yelp recommendations and tried this cafe. I'm a musubi novice so unsure of how I'd like it. I went with the spicy tuna and tofu options as spam doesn't appeal to me. The spicy tuna one was tasty with the sauce. The tofu kimchi one was really just tofu as I didn't taste any kimchi. Plantation Icd tea - never has that before either - a pineapple flavored ice tea. Very sweet. For $12 it was a tasty and filling lunch. Young lady who manned the drive thru only service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Refreshing, cold, islander breeze, dranks. Breezes of the ocean literally swept through my hair as I drank my plantation iced tea! (See below for 2nd review update) During my lunch break at Olympic College, my friend asked if I wanted anything from Cafe Kai. I've heard mad raves about the place, but never found the perfect opportunity to go. This was my chance! Searched on yelp to see what I should get. Saw pics of the plantation iced tea and got my friend to order that. Freakin' love it. I felt like I got my money's worth from this drink (even though my friend paid it, not me, haha). Never had a plantation iced tea, but this definitely brought me back to the islands. I will have to try their misubi in-store next time! 8.15.2018 Fresh, delicious, home-filled masubi. Their masubi makes me miss Hawaii a lot. Outside their store in thebghettos of Bremeton is a tiny look shack. But when I come in this small shack, I feel at home. Their decorations are subtle and cute. Their paying system is up-to-date with square pay. This place deserves more and I truly love Cafe Kai with all my heart.

Yelp
This Yelp post is for a visit on 6/9/18. How can a place in Bremerton get high praise and compel individuals to cross the sound on a weekday? Cafe Kai. I totally get it. The non descript location at the former Farrell's Pharmacy and below Harrison Memorial Hospital. Once you enter you are transported to the islands with the satellite music piped in. I arrived driving from Bainbridge Island during the last hour of their business day. The selection was limited, but musubi choices included just Spam, Spam with bacon and avocado, or adobo. I opted for the SBA one and a large plantation iced tea. Fresh since the avocado hadn't turned brown and wasn't squishy. Flavor surprisingly melded together and not salty. I really enjoyed the beverage with a touch of pineapple. Friendly, low key counter service. Everything was spot on, and the takeout I shared with my mom and my son (The Homie) was received with also positive praise. Only open on weekdays. But totally worth it if you are spending the day over in Kitsap County / West Sound. Credit goes to Monica for putting this on my Yelp radar screen. Definitely island spirit and ono grindz!

Yelp
Great place good food bad location. I think this place would do well by the shipyard downtown and a spot in Silverdale by the hospital. I'm not fan of this type of food but if they had some variety that made me wake up in the morning and say "I'm craving for..." then it would be a different story.
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
First time trying spam musubi, spicy tuna is hands down the best IMO! It's cooked tuna and not raw. I'm not the biggest fan of spam but still enjoyed the bacon avocado. They have a good variety with sausage and spicy tuna, which both do not have spam. Heard that the earlier you come the better because they sell out quick.

Yelp
My parents moved up to Bremerton two months ago and I'm visiting them for my winter break. My mom happens to work at the hospital right across the street and while my brother and I were looking for a place that sells chicken katsu, I found out that a literal musubi restaurant exists. We're from the San Francisco Bay Area and the only "musubi" place I've actually heard of was in SF's Japan Town and it was a stand inside the mall. However the place had probably shut down since the last time I saw it was maybe 8 years ago and I never saw it again. In addition, I haven't had a musubi since then so hearing that there was a place in Bremerton that sold it and it happens to be extremely close to where my mom worked made me really want to go and buy some musubi. The cafe and othe; When I went in, the cafe was really nice. From the reviews I read before I heard the place was pretty popular with the locals and upon walking in, it wasn't busy at all though there were a couple others who came in after me and then more cars drove up. I also read that apparently there was a drive through before? Sounds pretty cool to be honest haha-- a musubi drive through sounds like a nice quick to get and eat so perhaps if they're looking into it, bring the drive through back? In addition I noticed that you guys sold stickers which is a plus for me because I love to collect stickers and your stickers were aesthetic. Once I get a new water bottle, first sticker going on there is the wooden one I bought. Now for the food, I went for the "teriyaki spam musubi" since I was being a bit cheap and simply getting a snack and also got some siracha mayo. Man, right when I tried it, it was so fricken good! :OO Side note; I told my best friend and classmates about the place and a lot of them are actually asking me to bring them some BAHAHA I would if I could Though I probably will go back before I leave for San Francisco on Jan 2. If not, I will most definitely be back over the summer with my best friend to buy more. Even more so, this place has actually inspired me to do a fundraiser for my club back at my school in California, so thanks! :D

Yelp
Cafe Kai is the first musubi cafe in Washington (maybe the only one? does anyone know of any others??) and it is DA BEST! I'm so sad that it's so far from me and that it's taken me this long to finally try it. My friends and I were taking a day trip to the Hood ... Canal and decided to make the stop in Bremerton for musubi breakfast. It's located in a random area and I think maybe the building they are in now used to be a drive thru pharmacy, which is an adorable repurposing! I so approve! They have teriyaki spam musubi, redondo's hot dog musubi, spam bacon & egg musubi, avocado bacon & spam musubi, and spicy tuna musubi to choose from. They also have pork hash (which looks and tastes kinda like pork shumai). AND they have caffeine! They have caramel mac nut lattes! I ordered a spam bacon & egg and an avo bacon & spam musubi, and an iced caramel mac nut latte! The barista recommended that I try my musubi with their spicy sriracha mayo for an extra 25 cents (she had me at sriracha). The musubi were amazing - I wolfed them both down. And the mac nut latte was HEAVENLY. I'm drooling right now because I want more and I'm crying because it's too far from me. This place is adorable, the people are friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. They only make limited quantities and are open until they sell out (they close for the day when they sell out of musubi, so HURRY). I'm so jealous of all the people living in Bremerton.
google avatar

Nathan S.

Yelp
Cafe Kai might have the best musubi in Washington. I don't know why they're hanging out in an obscure location in Bremerton, because they could be making a ton of money in a major city like Seattle or LA. They're so good, in fact, that I wouldn't think twice about spending $100 on a variety of their musubi. This time, we only spent $50. I drove an hour and a half to Cafe Kai and would do so again...and again... I travel throughout the west coast quite a bit and this is easily the best musubi I have ever had. I don't think local residents know how lucky they are, because when we arrived nobody was there. More for me, I guess. Normally, I would want to keep a place like this a secret, but Cafe Kai is too good to keep to myself. I highly recommend everything they make. No reservations.
google avatar

MJ D.

Yelp
OMG SO GOOD. I love this place. Just tried it for the first time. Latte is on point! But the Bacon Avocado Musubi is one of those culinary combinations you just don't want to miss. Had it for breakfast and I'm pretty darn happy with that choice. I'm not Hawaiian nor am I familiar with Spam Musubi in general so all the Mainland taste buds out there -order with confidence you'll love it!
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Yes! I'm a fan! This spot has been saved in my bookmarks for at least 6 months. I was in the area today and decided to stop in. I ordered the spam teriyaki musubi, papaya salad, and spam bacon, avocado musubi. Everything is delicious! Service is excellent. Be back soon Mahalo!

Florida R.

Yelp
Had caramel Mac nut latte and white chocolate Mac nut americano with cream. My favorite was the caramel Mac nut latte, but both taste so good! For musubis we had bacon, avocado, and spam plus the spicy tuna. Loved both of them and would totally come out here the next time we're craving spam musubi and coffee. Plus the person (I didn't catch name) is super friendly.
google avatar

Melanie C.

Yelp
Always keeping it aloha since they opened shop a few years back! musubis done well and are always consistent. you say you don't like spam? you just never had it the RIGHT way. you think red looking hot dogs are weird? what does it matter if it tastes GOOD. get ya heads out from ya you know wheres and be open to trying things! I grew up with spam and these types of hot dogs, and i know the peninsula isn't used to these type of things (??) , but don't knock things until you try them. Jaime and Brandon run such a quaint shop. They are a duo that works well, kind, and quickly. Everything made fresh every morning. They do sell out; so first come, first serve. The flavour combos they come up with for their spritzers are unmatched. and that plantation iced tea is da bombbbb~ they have become a staple for my husband and I!
google avatar

Clair F.

Yelp
My absolute favorite spot to get musubi! I don't care about the hours or days open it is 100% worth it to get there early and snag a few delicious snacks. Love this place!
google avatar

Maria Sherry O.

Yelp
The locals' favorite place to get musubis! Been living in Seattle for awhile, but every time I'm in Bremerton I have to go and grab a musubi from here. So far one of the best musubi places I've been to. The spam bacon avocado is my personal favorite, but all of their musubis are pretty delicious. There's something about the sauce they use that adds that perfect touch of sweetness to the rice. Also their spicy mayo is SO creamy and good. Their iced coconut coffee jello drink is one of my favorite drinks to order as well. It's nice because they'll adjust the sweetness level to your preference if you ask them. I like to get the drink just a little less sweet. My only tip for coming to this place is to come a little early because they tend to sell out of certain options (especially the bacon avocado) pretty quick.

Yelp
The best musubis, everrrr!!!!! These musubis are MASSIVE!!! I was fortunate enough to try 2 musubis here. The Redondo's Hawaiian Hot Dog and the Spam, bacon, avocado musubis. The hot dog musubi had one whole hot dog on it and the Spam, bacon, avo musubi had teriyaki rice which took this musubi to the next level! Each were at least 2 inches high!! We also got a cappuccino, Plantation Iced Tea, and the Croissant French Toast. The cappuccino had the perfect ratio of coffee to foam. The Plantation Iced Tea was black tea with pineapple juice. It was fruity yet sweet! Just how I like it! You could really taste the pineapple juice but it wasn't too overpowering over the tea. The Croissant French Toast was perfectly toasted to a golden brown and had a nice crunch to it! It came with maple syrup and blueberries. The blueberries really complemented the French toast by adding a bit of sourness to the sweetness. All I have to say is, everything was gone within minutes!! If you haven't checked this place out yet, you must!! Follow their ig @cafe_kai to see the daily musubi menu and to pre-reserve your musubi!

Yelp
My go-to spot for my musubi cravings in Bremerton ! Some musubi's do sell out faster than others, so it's always a great idea to show up earlier in the day ! I've tried their teriyaki, avocado as well as their spicy tuna on one occasion. Personally I think their teriyaki musubi suffices for my cravings :) The macadamia nut guava coconut milk Red Bull gives an interesting twist to the usual flavors of your regular Red Bull spritzer. I'm pretty obsessed with it. The interior is quite small, and compared to the first time I've visited cafe kai, it looks like they've deviated from indoor seating to more of a stop and shop/ drive-thru setting. I wish there was a few small seats inside !
google avatar

Ailish W.

Yelp
Wow! What can I say, Cafe Kai is the best musubi around. The staff are all SO friendly and helpful. The musubi and fried noodles are TO DIE FOR. We love that this business offers their space for fabulous pop-ups such as Mike's Shave Ice (from Seattle). Every time we pickup from Cafe Kai - we are blown away. Prices: five stars Staff: five stars Food: five stars

Yelp
I love going to cafe kai. They serve delicious musubis, coffee, and awesome redbull sodas! Service is delightful as well.

Yelp
Every single time I'm craving spam musubi and actually get up to go and get some, Cafe Kai is closed! But today, i was in luck!!! So before i start this review, i am warning you, anyone, that Cafe Kai has some funky hours. Make sure that you check the website before making your way. They are closed like two days out of the week and close at like 3:30 PM. Strange. I know. My aunt is the dentist over at Northwest Can-do. After, a stop at the office, i dropped by Cafe Kai. I've never actually been inside and this is only my second time actually having it. It looks like they have a drive thru, but they don't. It's a very small cafe. A couple tables inside. Islander music playing and you're greeted with the order stand on the right. There were five different types of musubi. Two of the five were sold out. I ordered the avocado, bacon spam musubi, the tuna salad musubi and i ordered the Red Bull guava with Mac nut. I can't remember exactly what the drink was. Everything was great! I devoured everything! I highly recommend coming!! It hit the spot with my cravings and i am beyond happy i was able to make it before they closed!

Yelp
Awesome. Minor demerits for being out of primary products by 11:30 am! They had already sold out of traditional Spam Musubi and kalua pork. But, seriously, how do you discount a new restaurant for being popular? I tried their spicy tuna and their bacon avacado musubis. Both were fantastic. I also took a teriyaki musubi to go. I found communicating with staff difficult because of the volume of the music. But, the customer service was great! Thanks to prolific Yelpers Marie and Monica for drawing my attention to this most excellent find!

Sandy D.

Yelp
Y'ALL. This is the real deal. It takes us an hour ferry ride & almost an hour of driving to get here, but we DO IT! This will give you all the aloha & all the island feels you need to brighten up a gloomy Seattle day. My favorite is the spicy chicken musubi- not too spicy with the perfect amount of kick, smothered in their spicy sauce! We love to take day trips out to Bremerton to enjoy this small business & tend to order enough to eat all day & for breakfast the next day! The employees are super friendly too (in addition to making literally the best tasting musubi). I love musubi in all shapes & forms, but these just hit different. The rice is cooked perfectly, the seaweed is wrapped seamlessly, & the packaging makes it convenient...the perfect snack to enjoy any time of day! Haupia pies (especially the cookies & cream), li hing candies, & iced tea are super bomb too! Get there early if you want to try everything! They sell out fast (because they're bomb af)

Yelp
Oh geez. I was amazed! Island grandma visiting my family who has found this gem! Musubi?!? AND Coffee (hot & cold)?!? Awesome! I had a tofu musubi and was delightfully amazed at the flavors. As for customer service, my biggest watch . Island style with much "ALOHA"! I am definitely returning when we visit again!

Yelp
First visit. We were lucky to be able to get the last 4 musubi's today. 2 teriyaki and 2 Redondo. We were very pleased and will definitely return. Mahalo

Yelp
I CANT WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!!!! This place brought me back to the Monapua man food trucks in Hawaii. The spam, avocado, bacon rolls were out of this world. I highly recommend this place.

Kathy L.

Yelp
The folks here are super nice! Love walking into their small but very well lit space with all the plants they have that make a cute picturesque corner! There are times I wish i would be able to get myself there earlier as sometimes they sell out of the bacon avocado spam during their lunch rush but I love they they have a drive through and the grab n go makes it so easy! The spicy tuna roll is massive though so definitely gotta sit down to eat it! It's pretty well wrapped so don't have to worry about it falling out but if you're clumsy like me, just gonna play it safe Food display: 3.5/5 (no at all their fault as they're a grab and go business but it's just hard to make look great unless they're unwrapped, it's a macro shot or you buy a lot and stack them) Food taste/flavor: 4/5 Ambience/vibe: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Overall: 4.1/5 Would definitely go back!

Yelp
We tried this place today and were delighted. You do need to know where it is because there didn't seem to be any sign stating its name. The entrance is at the back of the building. When we were there they seem didn't offer any inside seating; we just took our food out to the car and consumed it in their parking lot which turned out just fine. I had the Spicy Chicken and my wife the Spam, bacon and avocado sandwich. FANTASTIC and I didn't even know what I was ordering! Definitely coming back--soon!

Yelp
Bremerton is so far away. I've said it to myself over and over. The Kitsap Fast Ferry made the ride a bit shorter. In 28 short minutes, I can get from Pier 50 in Seattle to Bremerton. From there, I've caught the bus once and called an Uber once to get to Cafe Kai. Is it worth the trip? Yes, it is! Growing up on the Big Island, there was never a shortage of musubi. As Brandon, one of the owners notes, we can always get musubi at 7-11, something you can't do here. A hardworking family runs this cafe during the week serving up multiple varieties of musubi and tasty beverages. My favorite so far is the spam, bacon, and avocado. Savory, a bit sweet, and rich - each bite makes me want more! The teri spam musubi reminds me of Earl's on the Big Island. Marinated chicken thighs is the best with rice and nori! Did I mention the rice? It's a big bite so open wide!!! Other types of musubi like hot dog (red Redondos) and kalua remind me of being back home. As for drinks, the plantation tea is a bit sweet and a bit brisk and goes down very easy. They make their own coffee jello which is perfect in coconut milk. On any given day, you may have a chance to grab haupia or chocolate haupia pie. Get it if you can! The chocolate haupia pie was bigger than I expected but again, took me back home in a hurry!

Yelp
Disclaimer: I live in Gig Harbor but also lived and was stationed in Hawaii for 4 years. Found out about this place a couple years ago after moving from Oahu and was craving Hawaiian food (other than L&L). Found out about this place and decided to take a drive-(mind you my initial visit was over a year ago-guess you can say "Pre-COVID-19"-however I was just there yesterday so I wanted to provide a review) and grab some "grindz". First off, they are known for their Musubis (if you're unsure of what this is, Google it). Living in Hawaii, you're used to the typical-spam; teriyaki spam; and spam/egg Musubi. At Cafe Kai, they have taken Musubis to a new level! I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of musubis they offer-my wife loves the spicy tuna, they boys devour the teriyaki spam, and I love their spam, bacon and avocado (who knew that would be an awesome combo!?); then again, bacon does go with everything! Unfortunately I did not take any photos of the tuna or bacon/spam/avocado musubi but I'm sure there are other photos here. They also serve a really refreshing Plantation Iced Tea (please DO NOT take any offense to the name of the tea-I've seen some comments on their FB page about this so before casting judgement, they-Cafe Kai-DID NOT name the drink-look up the drink's Hawaiian origin). They have other items BUT the caveat is, you probably want to get there early if you're looking for a certain Musubi, like the bacon/egg or spam/bacon/egg. They also serve coffee (which I haven't tried) and have some desserts. All in all, I strongly recommend this place if: A. You love Musubi; B. Love spam; C. Love anything Hawaiian. Mahalo for reading!

Yelp
Better show up early cuz they sell out of stuff fast. I would probably eat 1000 of these if I could.
