9 Essential Sandwiches for Fall - Eater NY

"This egg salad sandwich ($13) is a delight, once you figure out how to approach it. The embedded whole boiled egg is the challenge — nibble around the edges, or extract and eat separately? My choice is to dive in head first and let the innards fall where they may. Cafe Kitsune is an eclectic but lovable Parisian chain that incorporates Japanese elements, and in the case of the West Village branch, has a fashionable clothing store in back." - Robert Sietsema

Every Coffee Bar in NYC’s West Village

"This interesting coffee bar channels Paris and Tokyo, and thinks its a fancy clothing store — and if you look in the back room, it is. The madeleines and fox cookies are to die for, and all sorts of twee little pastries are provided, along with some of the strongest coffee in town. It turns into a wine bar in the early evening." - Robert Sietsema

Mishiguene to Pop Up at Intersect by Lexus Restaurant in the Meatpacking District - Eater NY

"This fall, Cafe Kitsune will land in the U.S. for the first time with a West Village restaurant. It will serve coffee, natural wine, and small plates that include wasabi popcorn, grain bowls, edamame hummus, and baguette sandwiches, a nod to the company’s French-Japanese mantra." - Serena Dai

I discovered Cafe Kitsuné through an Instagram ad that described it as a Japanese-French café. The photos made the place look much bigger than it actually is. I went with seven friends, and because the indoor space was so small, we had to sit outside. I ordered a croissant and a matcha latte. The croissant wasn’t fresh at all, which was disappointing. The matcha latte was okay, but not great. I also tried the cappuccino—it was good, but nothing special. Overall, It’s worth checking out if you’re nearby

Found this place while walking somewhere. Glad I walked in! Black and white latte was AWESOME! It was busy but I was able to find a seat. Would definitely go back if was in area.

Cold brew was top notch, very flavorful. Iced decaf latte was great, both the milk and the coffee. Tap water had a smell, though.

I had the pleasure of visiting Cafe Kitsune on a mellow afternoon, drawn in by its cozy ambiance and reputation for quality. I had arranged to get coffee with a friend and this seemed like the perfect place to relax and indulge. Stepping inside, I was immediately charmed by the warm yet modern interior design. The natural light pouring through the large windows highlighted the café's elegant simplicity. A subtle blend of industrial and rustic elements gave the space a timeless character, making it feel both inviting and refined. The pastry display was a feast for the eyes, showcasing a tempting array of baked goods. Although the selection was modest, every item appeared thoughtfully crafted. After much contemplation, I chose a slice of their lemon pound cake, along with a creamy cappuccino. My friend opted for a pain au chocolat and a flat white. The cappuccino was delightful—rich and velvety, with an espresso base that struck the perfect balance between bold and smooth. The pain au chocolat was wonderfully flaky, with a generous, luscious filling of dark chocolate. Meanwhile, the lemon pound cake was moist, tangy, and subtly sweet, pairing beautifully with the coffee. These small but thoughtful details made the experience feel special. What really stood out at Cafe Kitsune, however, was the atmosphere. The café exudes a sense of tranquility, with muted lighting and carefully arranged seating that invites you to linger. It’s clear that every detail of the space was designed with comfort and aesthetics in mind. A note about the service: the staff were polite and efficient, letting the space speak for itself while ensuring every guest felt welcome. Cafe Kitsune is not just a café; it’s an experience—a harmonious blend of flavor, ambiance, and design. Whether you’re seeking a quiet spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or simply appreciate a thoughtfully curated environment, this place delivers. I’ll certainly be back to try more of their offerings and soak in the serene vibes again. Highly recommended!

It’s a good spot to hangout with friends or dates. Plenty of space both in door and outdoor. Informatively, we didn’t order hot coffee since the coffee machine was broken. Can’t go wrong with Banana bread!

Very nice place to grab a good coffee in the Village area. Fun spot to sit outside for people watching too.

When I first heard about Café Kitsuné, I thought it might just be all hype. However, after trying their matcha latte, I was convinced of the quality. This charming coffee shop offers a variety of beverages, and my favorite is, without a doubt, the matcha oat latte. The matcha they use is excellent, and the flavor is absolutely delightful. It does get quite busy, though, so I recommend visiting on weekdays if you can.

Google
I tried the sesame latte at Café Kitsuné today, and it was a delightful experience. The latte had a smooth, nutty flavor with just the right touch of sweetness. The real highlight, though, is the ambiance—chic, minimalist, and incredibly relaxing. It’s the perfect place to sit with a notebook, clear your mind, and get inspired. I can already see myself returning here for future writing sessions. If you’re looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy great coffee and unwind, Café Kitsuné is well worth a visit!

Yelp
This might be my new favorite coffee shop! I was looking for a coffee shop with decent amount of tables/seating and a bathroom. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get a table on a Sunday morning. Most of the tables are for 2 people. I want to say there are about 10 tables inside in addition to the counter seating (4 stools). There are some tables outside too. I can't wait to see what the spring and summer are like. I love how this place is laptop/tablet free. People instead were reading or just catching up with friends. Dogs are allowed too! I got the Black and White latte ($8) and it was really good. I loved the foam at the top. It wasn't too sweet and actually had a flavor to it. The bathroom is a single stall and the entire wall is mirrored.

Yelp
I stopped by to try the black & white latte. I've been to this location several times and really love the interior and overall vibe. It's very summery and open space concept. The drink is very sweet but delicious! I'd come here with my partner or a friend. It is also pet friendly and has a clothing store connected to it.

Yelp
Ordered: Lychee & Rose Iced Matcha Latte (~$9) Aya's take: I know lychee & rose flavors hate to see me coming! I was in the area looking for a quick caffeine kick and decided to finally check out Cafe Kitsuné. My eyes immediately gravitated to the Lychee & Rose Iced Matcha Latte which was on their seasonal menu. The lychee & rose portion is already pre-made but it still tasted pretty fresh. The lychee was definitely more prominent than the rose. I barely got essence of the rose throughout but I did enjoy the floral and fragrant nature of the two ingredients in the drink. The matcha is pretty decent and overall, it was a creamy, sweet, and smooth drink. Good try!

Yelp
Got there around 4:30pm and most of the pastries are gone. They started to clean up all the pastries before 6pm. I'm not sure what time this cafe close everyday. Tumbler is over charged.... I was told that it's $75........ !! Atmosphere is really good.
google avatar

Yelp
This location is a great spot for a quick coffee and pastry with a friend! There is ample outdoor and indoor seating. The matcha was quite milk-heavy and not well mixed, it kept separating, but the pastries were great! Definitely recommend the almond croissant and the onion bread for a nice sweet and savory mix.

Yelp
Came visited Cafe Kitsuné during my trip in New York. Absolutely beautiful street view and and black/ white decor inside. Drinks were a little bit overpriced though, but i thats pretty much that's what you are paying for in NYC! Matcha tastes okay, but refreshing getting a nice drink. Drinks came pretty fast, staffs are nice, and quick! Really like the interior design and the colour there, tooks lots of pictures. Such a nice spot in West village
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop in west village and it was pleasant! There are a ton of other coffee shops nearby but I like the decor here. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. I got their seasonal matcha and it was great! The lychee and rose iced matcha lattes were very floral but not too overpowering. The matcha lemonade was sour but not too much! I had a good experience here and would come back!

Yelp
Lovely cafe attached to the kitsune store. Service and drinks were good. Vibes are airy, minimal, and good for catching up with a friend or solo working.

Yelp
Cafe Kitsune is definitely a little over hyped thanks to Maison Kitsune, but I mean cmon, that's why I went too. I did love the retro-esque style interior, that added some charm. The pastries were decent but nothing incredible. I got the croissant and it was just OK. The black and white latte was decent and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I realized there was a subtle cookie flavor underneath/aftertaste and it was a really nice touch to this latte. However it was a bit overpriced at 8$....

Yelp
Do not understand the hype around this place - food and beverages are quite pricey and not very good. I ended up spending $25 for overnight oats, a fig & cinnamon latte and chocolate croissant. Their "all day menu" also only had 1-2 items that were actually available at 10am. When we ordered pastries, they also just served them on a plate (not heated or anything unless we specifically asked). Given the price of these dishes, you would think they would have better service (even Starbucks is better). The overnight oats were ok but nothing special - they tasted pretty similar to what I could make at home and didn't have any interesting / unique additions. The chocolate croissant was decent but not particularly flakey / full of layers. They were generous with the amount of chocolate in the croissant. The fig & cinnamon latte was straight up horrid. I drank a few sips only and couldn't finish the rest.

Yelp
Quite expensive, and not sure if it was worth the price tag. Cute coffee shop with outdoor seating as well.

Madeleine Y.

Yelp
Came here when I visited New York and loved the inside of this coffee shop. The iced lattes were good and loved the refreshing yuzu drink since we had just finished a run! The service was ok. They didn't really smile and seemed really disengaged but at least the coffee was good!
google avatar

Marianne F.

Yelp
Yummy iced matchas, friendly service, beautiful interiors, outdoor seating, a little pricey
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
This is the chic Japanese/Parisienne coffee shop in the heart of the West Village that has the very best coffee and cakes.
google avatar

Nadia A.

Yelp
Matcha was awful and over priced. It tasted like sweet milk I was extremely disappointed I would not recommend I threw mine away I couldn't finish it. Service is fast
google avatar

Neha G.

Yelp
A beautiful Parisian cafe in the west village. On the pricer side with $8 lattes. So it's more of a treat. I tried the black & white latte, which wasn't on the menu but I saw a yelp photo and asked. It's a cookie butter flavor and was great! They follow a no laptop policy, but phones are allowed. Free WiFi & restroom.
google avatar

Caili C.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop that's a part of the French Japanese brand Maison Kitsune. This coffee shop is part cafe and part retail shop with a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outdoors. Interestingly enough, there's a no laptop policy but there are plenty of people reading typically. I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk which was good but pretty typical flavor-wise. There are other cafes in the area which have richer and stronger matcha and a creamier taste if you're a matcha fan.
google avatar

Oscar L.

Yelp
Cafe Kitsune was one of my favorite places to work in West Village because it was such a large cafe with a ton of space. The coffee is good-mediocre. Not sure when they changed policies, but they've banned the use of laptops and tablets now..
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
I came by to hang out before meeting some friends. It was a beautiful space with friendly staff and delicious treats! I was bummed that they are a no laptop cafe but offer wifi! I see this around NYC and I'm still trying to understand the reason. Other than that, I love this place and think it's an amazing spot to relax and enjoy great drinks/pastries. I would highly recommend this spot and I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area!

Yelp
When mouse and glue traps are embedded behind the seat cushions, beware! I wonder what the infestation is.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews on this page. I had THE BEST coffee here at Kitsune. I love nutty and chocolaty coffee with low acidity and this place had the perfect coffee for my taste. The prices were steep though. The specialty fig and white chocolate latte was amazingly good but it was $9! Their basic coffee menus were also pretty expensive. I loved the cozy vibe of the cafe and their 'no laptop' policy. Service was average. No one was friendly.
google avatar

Susan J.

Yelp
Pistachio milk black sesame latte. Take all my money and give me another one, please.

Ian C.

Yelp
Chill, laptop-free and a gorgeous deep, rich Americano. Need I say more? Apparently, yes. See the superb cappuccino that accompanied my coffee buddy, below!!
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
Another disappointing coffee experience. Again, lazy coffee makers with super plain coffee. It comes unsweetened and just un-special. Nice enough people working there, and the environment is pretty zen, but all of that doesn't mean much to me when the coffee isn't good. My wife was pretty excited about going there and was equally disappointed with the quality of the drinks. We got the matcha latte and an iced cappuccino. Both were just really bitter and not good.

Michael M.

Yelp
Love the coffee and pastries, the service is fast and friendly and very chill ambiance
google avatar

Kenneth M.

Yelp
I came here back in June for a quick bite and checked out the Maison Kitsuné store / Café Kitsuné merchs. The location was nice with both indoor and outdoor seatings. FYI, the cafe is a laptop-free zone. It also has good amount of natural lights and nice interior design! I came here twice and tried the latte and baked goods. They were average. Nothing bad, nothing stood out to me. The bad part was with the merch purchase. I was interested in the large ceramic cup + saucer. The staff was unable to find the price of the item and they custom-charged me $40. Later, I found the price of the item to be $30 on the official site. Despite they overcharged the merch, I don't mind returning in the future if I'm in the area as I liked the atmosphere!

C M.

Yelp
overhyped for sure $28 for 2 matcha lattes, 1 slice of banana bread and 1 slice of yuza pound cake. The bread and cake were no better than fine. The lattes were on the smaller side and my so called "hot" latte was served tepid. When I informed the barista of same, he said "yeah" with an attitude - thereafter we engage in a staring contest with each other until he sullenly said I guess I can remake it. You think? Not worth a second visit.
google avatar

Dipali G.

Yelp
This is a really cute cafe in west village! The prices are a bit high but honestly every cafe is now really expensive! I think the prices are justified by the great space! They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating and an ample amount of treats to order! The croissant was amazing! The service is good too!
google avatar

Rainey C.

Yelp
Super cute little cafe perfect for catch ups! I got the Hojicha Tea and they can do it as either just the tea or latte. I got it as the latte and I loved the perfect latte art. Didn't get a pastry this time around but will next time! They are a laptop-free cafe so not the best place to plan to do work.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, very cool and relaxed vibe inside and they also have outdoor seating. I ordered the new black and white latte and it was delicious. The service was really good too. I'll have to come back and try the food and the pastries looked delicious.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Cute cafe and the workers are very nice! There is spacious seating inside and outside so you can work or chill with friends. I ordered the Black and White latte, and I felt it was alright. It was very pricey and it tasted like milk with cinnamon on top. I'm not sure what else was in the drink but I wouldn't recommend the drink.

Yelp
During COVID-19 as of November 2021: Cafe Kitsuné is part of the French+Japanese brand Maison Kitsuné. Located in the West Village, this coffeeshop is part fashion store in back where you can shop their limited collection; the main section of the shop is the dining area. I visited the establishment on a weekday at around 2 hours from closing. I believe this cafe has a loyal following as it was crowded during my stay. The interior is charming with dark blue velvet chairs and dim lighting at night. There's also bar seating by the windows facing the barista. Drink wise, I tried their matcha latte with oat milk which was good and nothing out of the ordinary. Their signature fox cookie was so-so and cost almost, if not more than a drink, which was disappointing. The stand-alone tables were flimsy and dirty that I had to wipe it down myself. Overall, I would most likely order to-go: this cafe is more of a get together with company hangout and is not laptop friendly. Accepts cash, card, and Applepay. Bathroom available. Free open source wifi. No-laptops-inside policy, only outdoors. Retail shop in back section.

Willham P.

Yelp
This café never lets me down. It is so consistent with really great lattes and Croissants. The staff and in particular the Manager is very friendly and pleasant to interact with. super attentive and Always good for a friendly and quick chat. The fact that it's always so clean and the music is Great is big plus on the vibe side. This is kind of a big change from what it used to be like. Must definitely be a management shift because the team seems really invested and has elevated the café.
google avatar

Tanya A.

Yelp
Café Kitsuné (West Village) is my go to cafe to hangout in when I'm in the village. Their laptop free policy makes it a great place to read and write since there's usually seating available. I always get their Rye Brownie & a latte or hot chocolate.
google avatar

Ling X.

Yelp
Is it NYC if you didn't pay $9 for a latte? I got the black and white latte with oat milk (extra $1) and it was good but not worth that pricetag. I'm a sucker for limited edition or exclusive things, so the description that this was a "NYC Exclusive" suckered me in. For most of the drink, it tasted like a regular latte, and at the bottom of the cup there was nutella (which I actually think tasted more like a biscoff cookie butter paste). Lots of outdoor seating and since it's at a corner, a perfect spot to people watch in the West Village on a nice day.
google avatar

Jazmine Q.

Yelp
One of the infamous Cafe Kitsuné locations. There is a decent amount of seating available inside. However, the cafe is on the smaller side so tables fill very quickly! There is wifi available, but it is a laptop free zone. If you have some time and do not mind the wait their lattes are definitely a must try. I do recommend getting it to go if you are unable to find a table inside during the colder months. I came here on a Saturday afternoon. The line to order was a little long, but staff moved along quickly. Due to the size of the cafe it does get a little crammed inside will waiting for your order in the opposite side of the counter. This was my first time here so I ordered a hot oat milk latte and some snacks to enjoy outside on one of the cafe tables. The hummus was creamy and smooth served with some plain crackers and the honey ricotta dip was sweet and savory accompanied with raisin rosemary crackers. The egg sandwich, the egg filling was creamy, but a little plain and the bread was dry. I also ordered a hot mocha with oat milk to go, it was perfectly balanced with cocoa powder and milk, not overly sweetened. Overall, I recommend the coffee, I would skip out on the snacks (weren't bad, but not amazing) and maybe op for a small pastry instead next time.
google avatar

Irina D.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop. I meet my boss here on a monthly basis for a check-in. Great atmosphere and super quaint and quiet off Pacific. They have some snazzy merch too. Can't remember what I had last time, but I'm heading over again here this week so I'll update my review then.
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
Beautiful inside! The black and white latte was really good and the sparkling yuzu & honey tea was good too, not too sweet. On the pricey side though.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
We were in the area and was looking for a spot to chill out with a post-lunch coffee. My cousin visits often, so he suggested we walk over. On a Saturday afternoon, it was PACKED. A nice gentleman offered to move to a 2-top so we could have his corner seat and we were all able to fit. I had a Cold Brew and X had an Iced Chai. Both were good, nothing too outstanding or special, but hit the spot. There is a bunch of seating and a very clean bathroom.
google avatar

Albert K.

Yelp
OK coffee overall. Very hard to find seating - for some reason, it's a highly popular date spot, so people are sitting here for an hour+ conversing. Attached to the Kitsune shop next door, which does some awesome collabs. You can bring your coffee into the shop. Coffee came out piping hot. Good blend overall, not too bitter.
google avatar

Aphatsara G.

Yelp
Is very nice cafe shop in Manhattan. Matcha green tea is so good I like the bread I'm forget the name but So delicious
google avatar

Hiral P.

Yelp
Cute cafe. Laptops aren't allowed. There's ample seating. Good place to go during the day if you're in the area. I didn't think the latte or the vibe was anything extraordinary.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
I can tell why Cafe Kitsune is so famous now. Their cappucinos are so yummy and creamy, and I love the aesthetic of the interior. I wanted to buy a tote but they were sadly out of stock. Minus one star because their staff is really rude, but I visited for the coffee and not for the people anyways. I recommend!
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
Went in to get a bad habit ice cream and the brunette at the counter was confusingly rude. Not sure if she's been taking notes from 80s movie villains or was having an epically bad day (maybe life?). I pointed to the ice cream on the menu and asked if I could get a scoop to go. She looked at me like I was ordering a sushi platter and deadpanned "We don't serve ice cream here. Try somewhere else." Yep. That was the whole interaction. Won't return but will definitely be laughing about it for some time.
google avatar

Bom P.

Yelp
I love the taste, I personally love my matcha latte with oat milk, its so good Super friendly staff
google avatar

Kobsupang R.

Yelp
This place is actually a cafe in the front & a boutique Japanese/French brand clothing store in the back so you can check out their limited editions while there. Since they have been targeting me heavily on Instagram lol, it's only fair to pay a visit and see for myself. 3 stars? Why? Well, it's one of those places that seemed to be IG worthy because of the cool interiors, and their signature items on the menu. My husband tried their regular latte and didn't seem to be enjoying much, in his own quote, it's a coffee. I had Oatmilk latte and yay to the perfect latte art, but that didn't help with the taste whatsoever. Their apple turnovers however was SO good that I wish I had gotten another one to take home. We were sitting in the bar area and it was nice because no one walked by us but then we got ignored by our barista as well that we had to get up and asked for our food. Say what you will about this place. It will still have customers because I didn't see people stopped coming in. But will we come back again? Nah, not anytime soon.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
The service was great. Ordered the black and white latte which I would recommend. Ambiance was very chill.
google avatar

Yuki C.

Yelp
One part coffee shop, one part boutique clothing store, Café Kitsuné is a charming little haven in West Village. We tried the iced Chai Latte and Black & White (cookie butter, espresso, cocoa powder) and they did not disappoint. Came for coffee. Stayed for class.
