Cafe Kumbuk

I'm an Indian and have been searching for vegetarian and vegan places in Sri Lanka which is surprisingly difficult to find. Most dishes have beef or something that's not very pregnancy friendly. Luckily via Google maps found this and had a great early evening dinner. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and cooperative when I asked them for pregnancy friendly dishes. We had Hummus platter, Cappuccino, Turkish eggs, Biscoff shake and french fries. Everything was freshly made and so tasty! Cappuccino was well made given with a coconut biscuit and Biscoff shake was out of this world!! Definitely recommending this place to all my friends :)

Cafe Kumbuk is a true hidden gem in Colombo, tucked away off Independence Avenue and absolutely worth seeking out. I went for breakfast and was genuinely impressed by how thoughtfully the menu blends modern breakfast concepts with a distinctly Sri Lankan twist—creative, comforting, and beautifully executed. I paired my meal with a traditional Sri Lankan tea, which was served alongside pol toffee—a classic local sweet. The pairing was simple but perfect and added a really authentic touch to the experience. Despite being popular, the cafe still feels intimate and relaxed, which makes it even more special. A big shout-out to our server, Harith, who was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better with his excellent service. If you’re in Colombo and enjoy great food with a local soul, Cafe Kumbuk is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back.

TLDR: Ridiculously good food and matcha, and the friendliest staff ever! Cafe Kumbuk is located on the ground floor of a cosy building, with indoor seating as well as a lovely front and back yard. They also have a cool merchandise store. We stayed at Srilax, which is Cafe Kumbuk’s cute accommodation option on the floor just above the cafe itself - super convenient for breakfast and lunch. The staff are extremely sweet and went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable. Huge shoutout to Harith, Raj, and Mr. Buddhika!! If you’re in Colombo, swing by this place, you won’t regret it.

We had a wonderful experience. The Chef is an artisan with excellent food presentation. Everything was fresh and brilliant combination of flavours. Staff were very attentive, and very knowledgeable about their menu. We had our small children with us and the waiter made sure the kids were aware of the differences in their culinary choices, brilliant on the waiter’s wisdom.

Highly recommended Cafe Kumbuk 🤗 Ten of us had a wonderful breakfast experience at this cozy cafe. Starting from making the reservation to, finding us parking spots to, serving good food to our oveall experience was very good. They have decent spread of food covering meat lovers, Vegans, Vegetarians. Tasty food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Look a like they are very busy on weekends, better to make a reservation in advance.

Cafe Kumbuk never disappoints! Absolutely amazing food and outstanding service; no wonder it’s won so many awards. I recommended this place to a few of my friends, and they tried it out and loved it just as much. Well done, Cafe Kumbuk! Will definitely be coming back again.

Gorgeous little cafe tucked away near the museum. Had the prawn taco and a passion-mint tea - the flavours were amazing. They really use local flavours with fan favourite dishes. Harith, who was serving made great reccomendations and was so kind. I really reccommend this cafe for a relaxed lunch or if ypu need to remote work for a few hours.

If you’re looking for a cozy little escape from the city’s hustle, this café is the perfect spot. Tucked away in the middle of Colombo, it blends comfort and nature beautifully while serving up food that truly delights. Since the day they opened, they’ve stayed true to their concept and branding, which I really admire. The menu has something for everyone, including vegans, and the variety is impressive. The staff is friendly, service is good, and the food is consistently tasty. From their current menu, I have to say the mango pancakes are an absolute favorite of mine — highly recommended! It’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again and again. One small suggestion for the management: the outdoor seating area tends to attract a few mosquitoes and flies. Maybe adding some bug-repellent plants could help make it even more enjoyable. Other than that, everything is spot on.
