Cafe Flore Might Reopen (If It Can Find A Chef) - Eater SF

"Cafe Flore has been a reliable brunch and drinks spot in the Castro for over 47 years, known for its sunny back patio. Though not renowned for its food, it has been a popular hangout. Recently, its owners intended to convert it into a private events space named GreenHouse Event Space. However, they are now planning to reopen the cafe and are in search of a chef to bring new ideas to the venue." - Becky Duffett

Google
Great Cafe because they have cute tables outside and easy parking on Clement Street. Coffee and tea is real great and I love their lunches. Soft roll bread and they’ll make it the way you want. Good place to meet a friend.

Nathan Hale

Google
Amazing service and delicious food (including very good coffee) thoughtfully presented!

Alexander Meyer

Google
I don’t know who rates the food here but it’s incredible underwhelming. Frozen bagels and hashbrowns heated up in the microwave. The breakfast burrito 🌯 one of the smallest ones and also fake eggs inside. Our little one commented it was sad 😂

Google
Great place to stop by for breakfast, lunch, or just a coffee. Happy to hang out here with friends or do a bit of reading. Friendly staff. Good music. They are always playing soccer. They have both indoor seating and covered outdoor seating.

Nikhil Vunnam

Google
Loved the food and they are super friendly!

Google
Great little cafe! We had the frittatas and they were tasty! The service was great, very nice and attentive! Great place to come for a coffee and relax.

Alexander Nordin

Google
I got a breakfast burrito with sausage and a drip coffee. Both were just decent. The eggs were somewhat watery, the rest of the ingredients didn’t taste well seasoned and the sausage reminded me of a diced frozen patty.

Google
The service is wonderful, the baristas are kind and happy, which does a lot to make others kind and happy. The walk up to the place in the morning is nice, if a bit cold. The coffee isn't too sweet, such that you can taste the coffee. Inside, the building has a feeling of history like many buildings in San Francisco, but the interior is kind and neat as well. Cafe La Flore drips of pleasantness.

Yelp
Food was great. My friend and I got sandwiches after a run through Golden Gate Park. The French baguettes are purchased from Boudin and they are so crispy and light. All wraps and sandwiches come with a side so they're filling. I opted for the chicken tortilla soup while my friend got the Caesar salad. Both were tasty and just the right amount for a side! We both only finished half our sandwiches, but they made the perfect leftover for a light lunch later. Our server was thoughtful and friendly! She had a kind smile and answered questions we had about menu recommendations. The outdoor seating in the sunshine was amazing. So grateful they were open on a Sunday! FYI street parking only, and there is a single bathroom inside past the service counter. There must not be air conditioning because it was hot indoors, but the weather was perfect outside.

Yelp
The people that work here are great. There's lovely seating outside, which is perfect for a nice day. Inside is nice too. The food on my two visits were disappointing. I got the breakfast sandwich and couldn't eat it. The bread was dry and the cheese seemed plasticky. The muffins look like CostCo muffins, but without the Costco price. I'm a coffee snob, so I'm not dinging points for the bitter drip coffee. I wish this place was more like The Art Bistro.

Yelp
Five stars for nutritious, delicious food at a price that is great these days! I had a tasty fritatta with sausage, peppers, fresh avo and soft and crunchy bread. The service was timely. It's a cute little coffee shop. Nothing fancy except for the food. I got a full meal (Inc tax) plus fresh squeezed OJ for less than $20. Nothing is less $20 anymore! I'll be coming back

Yelp
come here for lunch all the time into study. The guy who runs this place is a sweetheart and gives the best service along with the best food. If you have time to check it out please do. The café has plenty of space to sit and enjoy.

Yelp
Stopped in on a random morning, coffee was delightful and the food was delicious. I loved the vibe inside!
google avatar

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito! Homemade salsa is so good. Cute setting and the people are the nicest.
google avatar

Corina E.

Yelp
Sunny outdoor seating available. Lots of smoothie options to choose from. Food was enjoyable and a pretty chill and relaxed environment.

Marc A.

Yelp
Very friendly place. Very low-key and casual. We had lunch and coffee. The coffee is dark roasted which we really enjoy. We had a sandwich and soup and it was really great. Highly recommend it and a great place to take a break
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
First time trying the coffee here and it's great! Warm and chill interior. Saw couple people sitting at the front so I decided to give it a try. It's just a quick grab of coffee this time but I feel like sitting down and enjoy a cup of coffee here would be relaxing here. The guy greeted us when we first came in and coffee was quick and nice. Will be back next time .
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Roast beef sandwich perfect. The bread fresh and toasted crispy to perfection. The flavor was out of this world. Very light feeling and tasty. High recommendation.
google avatar

Naomi W.

Yelp
Cute, older style place with outdoor seating available. The huevos rancheros was very filling and prices are very reasonable. Service seemed a bit slow though even though we were the only table that Saturday morning.

Yelp
My best friend and I are doing the San Francisco Marathon and we stayed around the corner from this wonderful place. Love the coffee, the food, the place. It's all just wonderful. See you next year!! Thank you
google avatar

Elyn S.

Yelp
Very good service and good food. friendly staff Andy...They made Carol's birthday super special. Thank you.
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
A very solid breakfast burrito. The various ingredients were cooked well so that their various textures still came through and didn't just sort of muddy together, which happens sometimes with these things. I had my dog with me and they made it easy for me to get the order to go by bringing it out, which I really appreciated.

Yelp
stopped by for breakfast on the way to the Internet Archive. the owner was super friendly and gave us free samples of a peruvian juice that he was drinking! the food was just okay; my matcha latte was too sweet and i wasn't a fan of the squash in the veggie breakfast burrito. their plating is beautiful though, and i heard the coffee was really good.
google avatar

Kimi U.

Yelp
Great menu. Superb service. Delicious food. Came here for breakfast based on the menu (I'm vegan, my friend is a meat eater). Had the vegan breakfast burrito - first of all, can I say how wonderful it is to have a breakfast burrito option!! Second, it was perfectly nourishing and tasty (with hot sauce of course). But beyond the food, the service was impeccable- so fast, friendly and welcoming. Cafe La Flore is definitely my new breakfast spot.

Yelp
Café La Flore, run by Pépé, is a space for those filled with mettle and compassion....... ;)

Yelp
Ok, guys, please don't bring out the filthy mop and bleach while someone is still eating. The stench was overpowering and I had to leave before I had finished my lunch. Too bad. I like the place. Food is okay but I cannot undo the sight of that mop
google avatar

Yelp
WiFi, friendly staff, and tasty lattes - what more to ask for? Give this spot a try on your journey to the presidio. Taste: 5/5 Touch: ?/? Smell: 5/5 Sound: 4/5 Sight: 4/5

Yelp
Ordered pickup from DoorDash for this place. I got the huevos ranchero with the sautéed squash and I added mozzarella. Fantastic place inside, the vibes were great. The man working was the sweetest. Wish I had time to eat inside. The food is so good. Best huevos ranchero I've ever had. I was skeptical of the squash but everything complimented each other perfectly.
google avatar

Tess T.

Yelp
This place really has some nerve to be charging $3.50 for a side of hashbrowns. Look at how tiny this is!! Ridiculous. It's clearly just a frozen little hashbrown that they heated up. Such a ripoff, and not worth it. Don't get the hashbrown!!!!! The sandwiches were delicious, but the hashbrown was absolutely ridiculous.
google avatar

Danice M.

Yelp
Not only is the food good, all the staff is very attentive to everyone who comes in - greeting and kind, when you leave they thank you and say good bye. Was walking back from the gym and love we can support the local businesses. Will share with my friends to stop in for breakfast, brunch or lunch.
google avatar

Jody L.

Yelp
This restaurant is a hidden gem. The sandwiches come with delicious soup & salad. And the presentation of the sandwiches is Michelin style. All for $15!
google avatar

Jaden R.

Yelp
The service here is insanely good, such friendly people! The food and coffee is fresh and well plated, you can tell they put a lot of care into it!
google avatar

Navin I.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. And I've had many, my friends. No fillers--only flavorful, fluffy eggs, melty cheese, and more good stuff.
google avatar

Lisa X.

Yelp
Little cafe serving breakfast and lunch items. A few outdoor tables. Great place to grab a coffee and/sandwich. Local and unassuming.

Yelp
Hidden Gem in the Inner Richmond! We were struggling to find breakfast burritos in the area and Cafe La Flore came in and saved the day. Their breakfast burritos are MASSIVE and could easily be cut in half and saved for later. (I are the whole thing but was starving. The two other ppl I was with didn't finish theirs.) They don't publish it on their menu, but you can add other meats to the breakfast burritos as well (bacon, sausage, etc). They have several tables outside where we ate our breakfast. It started to get busy around 11:30am. We ordered: -2 iced coffees -1 iced dirty chai -1 vegetarian breakfast burrito -1 breakfast burritos with bacon (pictured) -1 breakfast burrito with sausage Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast recently taking care of some business in SF. Service was excellent ! And the food care out quickly and hot! Food was great too!
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
Hidden gem cafe. Drip coffee was decent. But the huevos rancheros breakfast plate was delicious! So many textures, so many flavors, so much yummy goodness. It's served on two stacked tostadas and was very much full of freshness and flavor. And the service is super friendly too! Given that it's on the weird part of Clement with not as much foot traffic, there's hardly any wait/lines. I highly recommend Cafe La Flore. Don't pass it up!

Lorraine M.

Yelp
Every item on menu was good and we have been ordering takeouts 1-2 times a month! Nice colorful plate arrangements when done in. Cozy place for chit-chats

Stef F.

Yelp
Obnoxious loud drumming once or twice per week. Private parties with shouting, whistling, drinking and DRUMMING. Inconsiderate to the neighborhood and disrespectful to those of us who have been here for decades. Food overpriced.
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast food, great menu, and good coffee, but what makes this place so great is how very nice and kind the people are who work here. Just delightful!
google avatar

Andy A.

Yelp
Cozy cafe with paintings/art on walls at the tail end ( or beginning) of the Clement Street shopping district. Unpretentious and very down to earth, and the owner provides very attentive service. This is my stop before I grocery shop down Clement Street. I ordered the "Clement Street " salad which came with Chicken, mixed veggies, and cucumbers and I lightly tossed balsamic vinaigrette.
google avatar

Angela K.

Yelp
Came here for a late breakfast, decently priced good food !! I got the healthy eater sandwich which has turkey breast and veggies with pesto- I got mine without cheese, and it comes with a side salad(greens or Caesar) or you can get a bag of chips instead. It was really yummy and satisfying, and the staff were friendly. Their tuna salad sandwich is also really good, and it comes with a side of salad or chips as well. I was surprised by their coffee with almond milk, pretty good coffee! I liked it better than Starbucks:) For two sandwiches & two sides, plus two coffees came to 28 bucks which is pretty great for sf.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Popped in here today after a long walk- had the tuna melt sandwich and chicken noodle soup- both were delicious and the owners were kind and service oriented. The place was exactly what I needed today! I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my fav spot when I am hungry and I need something quick but delicious bites. Both owners(brothers) and employees are so nice and friendly, very welcoming, they have some great sandwiches and smoothies. My boyfriend recently discovered they served hash browns I am like whaaaaaaaaat. I love their hash browns this is why you don't see it in the picture beciSe as soon as I got it I ate that thing within the blink of an eye LOL. Sunset people they have a location there as well. You gotta try their sandwiches.

Yelp
Delicious Sandwich!!! I like it! Good service. I recommend! Nice ambience, good server!
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
This is a little hidden gem in the Richmond district on Clement. The food here is always fresh and delicious. The service it good - they are not very speedy since they have a small kitchen and make most things to order, but it is worth the wait. Servings are a good size and will satisfy most people. Right now during covid they have a few tables set up outside and of course they do food to go. Coffee is good and the espresso/latte/cappuccino drinks are well made (maybe not as well as some of the elite places, but certainly lower cost). Some give some love to a locally owned and operated business during this time.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
My go to breakfast spot after a pedicure at Nail Arts! Both dishes were equally delicious and filling. I love how each plate comes with a side of fresh fruit. Can't wait to try more items from their menu.

John H.

Yelp
Great service, healthy California grilled chicken sando with a side of Caesar salad was satisfying and delicious. Will be returning!
google avatar

Yelp
The customer service was TEN STARS!! They have an outdoor seating area and it was mostly full, but the guy behind the plexiglass flew out from behind, carried a new table out for us and brought us extra chairs so we could sit. I mean the service was absolutely top-notch!! The only reason it wasn't five stars is because their bacon was as thin as a fingernail, and the hashbrowns were the kind that are pre-formed like at McDonald's which is gnarly. I mean, Hashbrowns are just shredded potatoes - - it's not hard to offer the regular kind. The breakfast special was a great value and had an entire half avocado which was amazing, so overall it was a great experience!

Jenny O.

Yelp
I love coming here for lunch. It's a family friendly cafe and the food is great. My son and I just went this weekend. I got The California sandwich and a pomegranate italian soda. It was delicious!!
google avatar

Pamela Y.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood gem. They are so friendly and serve delicious food. Not pretentious, and a real asset to Clement Street. Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Came here today for a quick bite with a date after finding the Game Parlour next door had a hour+ wait. The inside of this café is not overly big, but has a few tables throughout to sit, enjoy your coffee, and use the WiFi. I ordered the Roast Beef sandwich, while my date went with the Roasted Turkey. Both sandwiches came out perfectly toasted and incredibly delicious! For drinks, my date ordered a latte while I went with the caramel apple cider. She said her latte was good, but it was a bit disappointing that they could not do latte art. The caramel apple cider was not overly sweet thankfully, but was not too different from a normal apple cider. Service was very friendly and this place is a nice option to kick back for an hour or so during a cold day.

Yelp
First time going in today, and I think I will make it a habit. This cafe isn't very big, but has at least 10 tables inside and 3 outside to eat/do work/socialize, etc. I went at around 12pm and stayed until 2:30pm. It was very quiet and perfect to get some work done. They do play music in the background but I personally didn't find it distracting. If anything I liked it and it kept me going. They also had a TV which played sports, which I also enjoyed while eating. The staff was super sweet and helpful. They seemed to have a relationship with everyday consumers and seemed to be liked by everyone. There sandwiches looked amazing (will probably get next time) but for today I went with the Cobb salad. Talk about huge portions!!!!! The salad was about $10. It wasn't the most amazing salad, but would definitely order it again. I also got a regular chai latte with soy milk which was around $3. I wouldn't say this place is the most delicious place ever but it's definitely on the better side and would recommend! They had various food options such as breakfast bagels, burritos. I believe only served until 12pm. All kinds of sandwiches, various salads, smoothies, and almost any coffee/tea option you can think of. They provided free WiFi and had tons of outlets. This place is perfect because it is on my way to work. Loved it here and will be definitely be back!
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Low key neighborhood cafe with delicious sandwiches sand specialty coffee . Ordered the Havana and the decaf almond latte. Perfect temperature coffee as I don't like when they are burning hot. Seating on the outdoor tables when sun is shining.. felt like I was in Europe :)
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Staff was super kind and the Italian sandwich was yummy! Very quick - perfect for grabbing take out to go to the beach.
google avatar

William N.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for a good breakfast sandwich, and today I found a really good one! La Flore's egg sausage muffin (w/ cheese) is perfection. Not to mention they do a real hash brown, which is also, perfection. 11 stars!!!
google avatar

Yelp
A superb little gem on the sunny side of Clement Street, Cafe La Flore offers an outstanding menu of breakfast and luncheon favorites including vegan, gluten-free international cuisines accompanied by sublime coffees, assorted teas and delicious hot chocolate drinks! The finest pastries await your selection if you want a small bite while enjoying the tables outside in the morning splendor of this part of the Inner Richmond District. Your host Andy has been serving up these delicious portions since 2009 and they're open daily. I highly recommend you stop by. Reservations not required.
