The Best Cafes in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"A specialty coffee shop with a flexible, multidisciplinary space that can respond to its clients’ needs, this Quartier Latin addition opened in the summer of 2021 and has been flooded with UQAM students eager for another place to study ever since. A fun, outgoing staff slings coffee all day, seven days a week. Their latte créatif — seasonally-inspired fruit lattes — makes for a fun twist on an old classic." - Daniel Bromberg

A Filipino Cafe, Indian Ice Cream Shop, and Other Montreal Restaurant Openings, August 2021 | Eater Montreal

"Near UQAM I found Café Léoh, a relaxed new study spot that aims to be more than a cafe with plans to host movie screenings, art exhibitions and possibly pottery classes in a self-described 'modular' space." - Valerie Silva

A New Café and Event Venue Arrives on Berri | Eater Montreal

"Opened during the pandemic on August 1, this bright, white 2,000-square-foot café with a mezzanine at 1215 Berri—directly across from a UQAM building in Montreal’s Latin Quarter—caters largely to students and centers its beverage menu on coffee roasts from Montreal favorite Zab. Founder Andréanne Léonie Murdaca, who gave up a civil engineering career to open the shop, says her degree proved useful as she oversaw months of construction and verified everything from electricity to ventilation, and that her father is now proud. Food is currently limited to pastries and flammekueche, with sandwiches to be added once the semester begins (made on bread from Mile End bakery Guillaume, including a vegetarian croque monsieur that trades ham for apples), and chef Mathieu Plamondon—a fellow former engineer who began hosting dinners during the pandemic—plans to introduce a late-night, market-driven menu so the café can also serve as a dinner destination. Billed as a “modular café,” Léo intends to be a hub for local events (concerts, comedy, movie screenings, pottery classes, etc.); it’s already exhibiting a photo series about the project and has two large walls on wheels to quickly reconfigure the space. Hours are currently Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., subject to change." - Valerie Silva

Wow, the coffee here is delicious! It was so good to have this spot right next to our hotel. The staff were super friendly and took the time to explain the different types of espresso they offer. I got the overnight oats, which were good. The only downside is that their to-go packaging, especially for iced drinks, could be better. Overall, it’s a really cool spot to grab coffee and get some work done.

The staff is very friendly. She tried to make the art on the cup of milk🥛just with some cocoa powder. Delicious and fresh croissants 🥐

Stopped at Café Léo for breakfast. Lovely to have gluten free options. Everything was yummy. In a way it felt like I was having breakfast at home only surrounded by art and lively discussion.

Overall, it is a nice place to sit down and do work. I came because I saw they had gluten free options. But once I looked where the pastries where located, the gluten free ones were right next to the non gluten free ones. Why bother even putting them at all if their gonna be contaminated with the non gluten free ones. I ended up trying the brownie since it was far away from the other ones. It was good but was definitely contaminated. I don't recommend celiacs going here at all. Don't put gluten free options if your not gonna be careful with how it's made or where it's place. Nice service and ambience.

I’ve tried both the espresso and the matcha here, and they’re truly great. I love the rotating exhibitions of local artists on the walls, it gives the space a unique and creative vibe. The energy is always positive, thanks to the friendly and welcoming staff. It’s also a great spot if you’re looking for a relaxed place to work or enjoy a coffee surrounded by art.

Stumbled upon this cafe as I was heading to my destination. Thought nothing of it and had no expectations but when entering, I immediately enjoyed the chill and vibrant atmosphere. I ordered an iced mocha made with 10%, my usual go-to during the summer. The drink was done in about 4 minutes, I kid you not, it was THAT good. It wasn’t too sweet, not overly chocolatey, and the espresso beans perfectly complimented the drink; literally everything was at the right ratio. I had to go back to let the barista know and also purchased a bag of the beans they had used. If ever I go back to Montréal, I will definitely be coming back to café léo. edit: finally got my film rolls developed! 1-year post-review visit: went back Aug 6 for the same iced drink I bought in my original review, I was genuinely excited (I even purchased a different bag of beans to bring back home) until: a) I realized the barista taking orders punched in an Americano instead and b) the barista making drinks said they don’t make mocha’s with cream even after being told and acknowledging what my drink will be. Talk about embarrassing—the experience was a complete 180 as previously above. Even if the food looks great and the dining area is amazing, a café is only as good as the service provided and consistent drinks being made.

Google
Had the Vanilla Latté here several times and each time is better than the last. This is by far the best coffee in the city as far as I've tried! I'll be making it a regular stop.

Yelp
This coffee shop was right next to our hotel. So we tried it and I got the regular iced vanilla latte and it was so good! Ask for half sweetened or it's way too sweet! And the staff was so nice. Especially to my 4 year old! We loved getting our morning coffee here.

Yelp
We stayed at the Marriott right next door to this cafe, and we went daily! They were very helpful to us in English, bathrooms were clean, vibes were good, and we sat and enjoyed coffee every morning before adventuring out. And as an American, it was so nice to have such a great ICED latte every morning!

Yelp
Top tier breakfast as someone who's bigger on the drip coffee as well, they did it justice!

Yelp
I got a lavender latte that was somehow unbelievably smooth and creamy. I don't know how or why it was so good, but I absolutely have to go back and try to find out. I also got a kouign amann pastry, and it was heavenly. I don't know where they get it from (since they obviously don't have the patisserie setup to make those in-house) but it was amazing and not at all the usual lower quality type of viennoiserie served at coffee shops.

Yelp
We were staying at the Fairfield next door, so I thought I'd grab a latte before leaving Montréal. The interior of this café immediately caught my eye - it's super spacious with pops of yellow / orange. There are two floors, and seems extremely conducive to collaboration. I ordered a hazelnut latté - I find that flavouring is not always the most apparent at some cafes, but this drink definitely don't skimp on the syrup. It was a little over $6 for a regular size. Would love to come back here if I was ever in town for a bit longer and in need of a work space!

Yelp
My friends and I stopped into Café Léo for our first cup of coffee in Montreal. The baristas were both friendly and helpful, giving solid recommendations for what to drink. My espresso was really good and everyone else was satisfied with their coffee. I would like to try more of their offerings when I'm back in town.
