In Tbilisi, Georgia, Food Is a Language of Resistance | Condé Nast Traveler

"One of the prettiest courtyards in Tbilisi—the old Writers’ House of Georgia—set the stage for Tekuna Gachechiladze’s lovely restaurant, where I sipped dry white Mtsvane on ice and ate veal tartare with Georgian truffles as cats padded through the shrubbery and a lone palm swayed. Over the clink of glasses, a friend pointed to the wall and recalled rumors of Beria’s torture dungeon just beyond it, a chilling counterpoint that captured the city’s rhythm: friendship and pleasure with horror close by." - Gary Shteyngart

The 18 Best Restaurants in Tbilisi, Georgia | Eater

"Tekuna Gachechiladze was among the first chefs to bring international-style fine dining to Tbilisi, and she still leads the city’s higher end food scene. At her second restaurant, Cafe Littera, she continues to play with traditional local ingredients, like the Georgian hot sauce adjika, wild mushrooms, and sunflower seed oil in dishes such as seared duck breast, fried sulguni cheese, and wild trout tartare. The restaurant is situated inside a historic home, surrounded by a beautiful garden, where many of the previous century’s Georgian writers used to live and work." - Natalie Shafrir

Smoked Egg Plant: It was quite good. The lavash was okay. It feels too chewy and dry at the front part. Crispy Fried Artichoke: Was okay. Doesn't seem to be fried much despite the name. Pork Belly on Green Pea Puree: Delicious. Juicy. Balanced between the fats and the meat. Pairs well with the sauce. Baked Whole Black Sea Dorado: Delicious. Fried nicely. The meat was juicy and skin was crispy. Dessert: Baked Quince: Delicious. The passion fruit cream matches the taste of quince. Creating a sweet and sourish mixed taste. Services were good. Staff was polite and attentive. Not sure why the staff did not open the blockage from the museum side even when it's already 1pm while the staff saw the customers waiting. Saw multiple customers feeling confused. Could have told the customers if that's not the right entrance.

Nice spot if you’re looking for a garden-restaurant atmosphere. I went around 3pm and the place was very nice and quiet (apart from the ventilation system… some light music could help!); food was alright (recommended dish: stuffed wine leaves); service was great. A bit above average price but worth it if the day is sunny

Best thing about my dining experience in Littera was the atmosphere, view, and ambiance of the restaurant. Could’ve been improved if a little music was being played, as it was completely silent. The service is excellent, very friendly staff. They are very well informed about the wine selection. Our table was a big one, so we had a set menu that was perfectly paired with different wines for each course. The local wine is absolutely phenomenal. The food was delicious as well. They had a plate of mixed mushroom that I highly recommend. Overall great experience, hidden gem in Tbilisi you don’t want to miss.

Absolutely delicious food and great service! The waiters were polite and attentive, and the sommelier was amazing - very professional and friendly. There was also an adorable little kitten around, but he didn’t bother the guests at all. In fact, the staff treated him with so much care it made the atmosphere even warmer. Loved everything

meh food. definitely not worth the price. eg. the tomato of the carpaccio was amazing but the sauce made it really hard to taste it. the ceviche felt awfully dry and sour with nothing to balance it out, where's the umami? the rest of the dishes followed the pattern, they were alright but nothing spectacular. the inner patio is great tho, i'd just come for a coffee and enjoy the view. you can skip the food.

The ambience makes you feel in a very special place. Although it is, the street cats jumping from seat to seat started bothering a bit. Poor service which does not meet the expectations for the restaurant standard. They sat us on a table of our choice, and after 40 minutes came back to take our order, and they knew it was a special bday dinner, I was turning 30 and chose this place specially to celebrate it in Georgia. My husband even tried to contact them many times to arrange a surprise cake for me, but he ended up getting what was left in the desert menu, as the waiters couldn’t help much. Food was really good, we had dolmas with meat which has a spectacular sauce, the sea bass ceviche highly recommend, pink tomato with Gouda cheese as for the main course we ordered shrimp with polenta, which was a bit disappointing in taste. The ideal main course for me was supposedly to be the fillet mignon, but the waitress told they were out of stock by the time of me ordering.

Food is incredible. We got almost everything from the seasonal menu (in October it’s all about mushrooms) and it was sensational. Mushrooms were incredibly flavourful and the dishes were well balanced. Only downside is that there were peppercorns on everything that kinda ruined the dishes so we had to take them out one by one. I’d ask for no peppercorns if possible. Other than that great experience

Set in the lush garden of the historic Writers’ House in the heart of old Tbilisi, Restaurant Littera offers a unique dining experience that blends literary heritage with culinary innovation. Under the direction of renowned Georgian chef Tekuna Gachechiladze, the restaurant presents a refined take on New Georgian cuisine, reinterpreting traditional flavors with modern technique and seasonal ingredients. The atmosphere is undeniably charming—dining beneath trees in a tranquil courtyard surrounded by history creates a setting that feels both intimate and culturally rich. The food itself was very good, with well-balanced flavors and thoughtful compositions that reflect the kitchen’s creative ambition. However, the overall experience was tempered by noticeably slow and inattentive service. Despite the relaxed garden setting, the lack of attentiveness and long waiting times detracted from the otherwise elevated tone of the restaurant. Additionally, the seating on hard wooden benches without cushions proved uncomfortable over the course of the evening. A simple addition of padding could significantly improve guest comfort. In summary, Restaurant Littera delivers memorable flavors in a beautiful setting, but would benefit from greater consistency in service and attention to guest comfort. With a few adjustments, it could fully live up to the promise of its exceptional location and culinary vision.
