Yesterday I attended a gathering with some serious food partners in crime and had an absolutely incredible time however, Cafe Malta let me down with their 2018 Late Winter Dinner menu as a couple of my favorites were missing nevertheless, I wasn't going to get up and walk out in protest, I just ordered a libation to calm my nerves, 'I Can Explain Everything', very soothing and therapeutic, Limoncello, cachaça, sweet lemon juice, and prosecco.
As an appetizer, I was able to sample the Crostini di Hill Country, Smokey Denmark (Austin local) jalapeño sausage, brie, parsley-pecan pesto on baguette.
After ordering my main course, Canneloni, I requested another libation, Dark and Stormy, Cruzan Blackstrap rum and Maine Ginger Brew over ice with lime to further calm my nerves.
I enjoyed the Cannelloni, fresh housemade pasta filled with roasted maitake, beech, and oyster mushrooms in a porcini stock, topped with gruyere béchannel, pastured egg yolk, and porcini crumble.
As a rule, i usually pass on the desserts but I could not resist the charms of the Chocolate chili Crème bruleé, with a snifter of Père François Calvados, for digestive purposes only.
Indeed I will return whenever the Gnocchi Gorgonzola returns to the menu. Last, but certainly not least, our server, Mary, was extraordinary, beyond measure.
