Café Mariposa Gardens

I visited the Mariposa Cafe as part of my Costaatt Tour Guiding (Cohort 9) course on 11 October 2025. Truly an amazing place to visit while enjoying the hospitality and knowledge of our hosts.

This was an absolutely fantastic and very unique experience. The restaurant serves only a set menu and requires advance booking, but everything about the visit was worth it. The service was outstanding, the place is stunning, and the food was simply amazing. A truly non-traditional dining experience with excellent cuisine. The whole evening concluded with a beautiful song performed by the owner, creating a very special and memorable ending. I can highly recommend it to everyone.

We had lunch at Cafe Mariposa while visiting Trinidad. It was undoubtedly the highlight of our entire trip. We enjoyed the garden tour and the chocolate making demonstrations. The meal was delicious and we loved that everything was local.

Nestled in the quite serene Lopinot Valley you will find Cafe Mariposa. On the outside it doesn't look much but..the inside has a wonderful history. We didn't get the opportunity to have a meal but we did hve some of the coco tea...delicious!!! Everything is locally grown with the exception of salt and garlic. You can take a tour of the fish pond and catch your fish for lunch and they will cook it to perfection at the cafe after which you can take another tour of their Coco plantation It's a wonderful little piece of history in Lopinot. They have one of the best coco in the country. I understand their plantain sandwich is unbelievable in taste..Everything is infused with chocolate...but you will never know ..

Service was exceptional. The staff were very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The ambience was incredible with views of the gardens and the hummingbirds flitting around nearby. The food was different as most of it was chocolate infused. An all round pleasant experience.

Awesome place! You'll be amazed by the hummingbirds flying in front of you while enjoying delicious homemade food. They you a lot of home grown products, so it was very tasty. In our case, as vegans, they prepared a very diverse and delicious meal. I always like when you really 'meet' the people who prepare your food and this family is very empathic and so friendly. I wish I had the time to stay longer! Don't forget to check out the garden.

Amazing food with the hummingbirds!! Would definitely recommend getting some of the chocolate!
