The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, July 2023 | Eater NY

"Presenting itself as a Mexican coffee shop in Williamsburg, Cafe Miguel makes colorful tetelas that delighted me — blue ones filled with cactus, peppers, and chihuahua cheese, and yellow ones with pinto beans ($6 each); both are vegetarian and you can add an egg for $2." - Eater Staff

Amazing food, less than stellar service unfortunately. I wanted to leave 4 stars but can’t in good conscience-it took about 20 minutes for someone to take our order and then an additional 35 minutes for the food to come out; apparently there was an order mixup in the kitchen. Portion sizes for the burrito are also a bit underwhelming (photo doesn’t accurately depict the small size). Taste is there for this place though! Just maybe better off ordering takeout well in advance.

This place is awesome. Will 100% be going again. Not only was Gosia wonderful, but the food and experience was exceptional. They have a perfect outdoor area that I didn’t even know was there. I got the burrito… so good. And the coffee was delicious. It was electric✅

As a frequent customer at this restaurant, our most recent visit was so bad that we won't be coming back. The food was delicious. However, the female staff service was unbelievably poor. Specifically the female staff serving for backyard area. This female staff was inattentive from the moment we sat down. We had to wait over 10 minutes to get water, cups, and utensils, and only after we asked for them. When we finally placed our order, we specifically requested no cilantro, but the request was ignored and our food was served with it. Everyone in the bark yard was treated in the same inattentive and disrespectful manner. The server's lack of care and professionalism was the primary reason for our one-star rating. I hope the owner addresses this issue, as this kind of service could really hurt their business.

Um, is it my favorite Mexican restaurant outside of Mexico?!? Might be. Very authentic and delicious, beautiful space, banging music.

Google
great neighborhood spot for brunch! big fan of the cafe de olla (mexican spiced coffee)— get it hot or iced for different but delicious experiences! you won’t go wrong with their food, it’s all high quality, fresh, and delicious. big fan of their specials, and their burritos always hit. grab a seat in their back patio for good vibes, it’s great for small groups, a date, or solo dining :)

Google
The food really was not that tasty and it was not an explosion of flavor like one of the reviewers said for the tetletas unfortunately. Still the atmosphere was amazing and our waitress was exceptionally attentive and anticipated our needs. The portion sizes were also very small unfortunately as you can see from the the photo for the tetela it's just a snack really. I may try again for a different meal but neither the tetela or hinges burrito did it. I also had a tumeric latte and that was great.

Sat out back on a nice day and this was perfect to cure the Sunday scaries. They could seat a table of three around 11. After us there was a line. Only complaint is that they’re not the fastest service. Order an app if you’re hungry.

Excellent neighborhood spot with authentic Mexican comfort foods. We go so often I would 100% recommend!

Yelp
Such a cozy mexican cafe, with wifi for those looking to get some work done! I've passed by this spot several times and thought I'd give it a try. The Californian in me was missing Mexican food and it really hit the spot. I got a chicken quesadilla and a hot almond chai, and I have to say - this is one of the best chai lattes I've ever had. I usually take issue with chais being too watery, but this is packed with milk and spices. Just the right amount of sweetness with a nice frothy top. I'd come back for the chai alone. Prices are extremely affordable and staff is friendly. I'll definitely be coming back regularly. Many tables were filled but there seemed to be enough flow of customers where it should be manageable to snag a table.

Yelp
Maybe it was because my favorite Mon Laferte song came on right as my breakfast tetela was delivered to the table, but there's nothing I would change about the stellar brunch experience at Cafe Miguel. From the well-spiced cafe de olla to the decadence of pairing a runny egg with mole negro, this will be one of my top new spots to return to in East Williamsburg. We're really spoiled for choice in the neighborhood these days, with not one but two cafes on Grand Street serving up a proper Oaxacan breakfast.

Yelp
I recently stopped by Cafe Miguel and while the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito was just okay for me, the Chai Iced Tea was delicious. It was perfectly spiced and refreshing. The cafe itself has a laid-back, cozy vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating options. It's a great spot to relax or catch up with friends. The staff was also super friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This place is great but they haven't figured out delivery for their hot beverages. I've gone inside for takeout and the service was good. Ambiance is also nice and spacious. Cannot recommend the sope tinga enough. It's fantastic.

Yelp
This was my first time at Cafe Miguel and I was worried there would be a line on Saturday for breakfast. To my surprise, there were plenty of seats available. The servers are friendly, and the food tasted like it was made with love from a grandma in the kitchen. I ordered 3 dishes: * Chorizo Breakfast Burrito - 10/10 - this was one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had! The flavor of the chorizo was so good. The fluffy eggs with the hefty serving of guacamole, and small potato chunks were chef's kiss. * Chilaquiles - 8.5/10 - Even though there was no meat in this dish, I didn't feel like I was missing out. The flavor of the beans was enough to make you feel satisfied. The refreshing salsa verde helped balanced out the dish. * Chicken Tinga Sope - 7.5/10 - The tinga was lacking in a bit of salt for me. I also completely falls apart after taking one bite so it's a bit messy. * Strawberry Matcha Latte - 6.5/10 - not my favorite strawberry matcha since it just tasted like milk and you could hardly taste the strawberry or the matcha. I would skip on this drink. Overall, I definitely think this place is worth checking out and is a local gem. As much as I don't want to see it get too crowded, I hope they get plenty more customers in the future.

Yelp
the chilaquiles are a must! the salsa was absolutely delicious, and this cost less than $20 including tip. can't wait to come back and try the breakfast burrito.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast burritos here, done right. No unnecessary ingredients like potatoes, which is just a carb filler. Only chorizo, black beans cheese and guacamole. The coffee is solid, especially cafe olla, subtly sweet and spicy. The women behind the counter working hard, making this cafe a diamond in the rough.

Yelp
An enjoyable quiet breakfast time with me and the babe. Service was polite and quick. Food was healthy and coffee suited my early morning caffeine needs. The interior transports you temporarily to Mexico. I got the Hongo breakfast burrito (vegetarian), which was substantial for the morning.

Yelp
Housemade corn masa? Sign me up! Stopped over here on a weekday afternoon a week or so ago. We got a tinga quesadilla and pinto bean tetela. Both were so so tasty and really reasonable pricing. There's a cute patio out back with plenty of seating and the indoor area is just as cute. The service was friendly and quick too. Overall, we loved this spot and will definitely be coming back sometime soon!

Yelp
Food is tasty and affordable. Cozy indoor space, pretty outdoor space. WiFi is pretty reliable. You can self-serve water.

Yelp
Cafe Miguel is an absolute gem of a spot! Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, it's got that cozy vibe that just makes you feel at home. The outdoor patio is a real game-changer--perfect for soaking up some sun while enjoying your coffee or catching up with friends. It's my go-to spot for getting some work done or just unwinding after a long day. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and swing by Cafe Miguel--you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Greatest place ever. My go to spot for coffee and it's the best! The ambiance is so amazing, service is so good, and the food... EXCELLENT!!!

Justin D.

Yelp
Staff and owners will make up an arbitrary 3 hour time limit to kick paying customers out. Seems like they pick and choose which customers they deem "acceptable" to stay and work.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of trying some breakfast pastries from Café Miguel, and really enjoyed everything that I was able to taste. The first was a chocolate croissant, and that hit the spot. It seemed like it had a little extra butter to it, which made it extra good. The blueberry scone was also a very tasty treat. It was loaded with blueberries and covered with sugar crystals. I also tried a banana walnut muffin and this as also rather delicious. Altogether, I was very happy that I had an opportunity to try the food from Café Miguel as it was all very good.

Yelp
It's excellent Original Mexican Food, some of the food items are made here from scratch by the cook. This is one of the most original Mexican food I tasted.

Yelp
Homemade masa! It gets busy, so the service can be slow, but it's so worth it and I wasn't in any rush. The prices are amazing, too. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
AMAZING food and amazing service!! I got the caesar salad and chicken quesadilla. They were both so good! 10/10 would recommend. Such a cute little cafe.
