The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"The city’s close-knit Iranian community, many descended from Zoroastrians who came to Mumbai after fleeing religious persecution, run a number of cafes that double as grocery stores. Military, one of the few Irani cafes where you can grab a chilled beer along with your food, has fed entire generations of families around Fort. Check the menu for the day’s specials, or go for the foolproof salli boti (sweet and tangy slow-cooked lamb curry) and lamb mince biryani. The brain fry will melt in your mouth." - Sumedh Natu

Angel jo speaks ❤️ Visited this cafe after almost a decade It’s called cafe military . It was going back my memory lane . Paid 170 to pay and park Drove all the way from chembur Am a pescatarian and today was indulging in dhansak rice and that was something I enjoyed with my dad who crossed over . But it was extremely spicey , so I kindly asked the server to change it , he was unruly and that’s fine may be a tough day for him today . I reached out to the owner mr sharir after paying the bill , cause all I requested is please look into the quality and taste of food which just can’t be compromised with . I wanted to have the raspberry bottle but the plastic bottle did not match the taste . The dhansak did not match the earlier taste either . The keema was just nice is what my partner over lunch said . The caramel custard did match the taste all hearts to the same But the server did not seem to recommend what should I have . Neeraj is the manager who actually understood the context , which is only the taste of the food . The water glass is not clean , pls carry your own water . Have beer instead. They serve beer . They only accept CASH !! The owner Mr sharir does smile and we loved his smiles which added some niceness to the lunch .

Had a wonderful experience at Cafe Military! The quality of food is truly awesome, especially the Kheema Ghotala, which I absolutely loved. This place also offers beer, but we preferred sticking to the classic combination of Chai and Bun Muska. The staff is polite, and the food portions are generous and satisfying. One drawback is that Cafe Military only accepts cash payments, as is common with many Irani cafes, and does not support UPI or online payments. Apart from this minor inconvenience, everything else about the place is excellent. If you love authentic Parsi/Irani flavors with great value and a good ambiance, this cafe is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

I would call this place a parsi beer joint now. Food is average, desserts are nice and old school. Sali means potato sticks, chicken fry is avoidable. Mutton keema is a bachelors version. Berry pulav is only on the weekend. Cutlet is ok.tea is ok.

It has an old world charm. Limited section of beers and parsi/irani style menu. The food tasted good and the prices were quite affordable. It is a place i would not mind visiting repeatedly for a quick beer or two with some snacks. I could see young guys and girls also having a good time around us. A couple of things would really make this place stand out. First is cleanliness around the toilets for both men and women, and the second is to take not just cash but also UPI and other methods of payment. These small changes will make a significant difference in their customers for sure.

I had high expectations from Café Military, especially being a heritage Parsi restaurant in Colaba, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. First of all, there is no parking facility nearby. The café is located deep inside narrow lanes, making it quite inconvenient unless you’re very familiar with the area. Finding a place to park and walking all the way was a hassle. One major drawback is that they do not accept card or UPI payments — only cash, which is very surprising and inconvenient in today’s digital world. Coming to the food and service — the restaurant wasn’t even crowded (only a few tables were occupied), but the service was unusually slow. We ordered a variety of dishes: • Chicken Keema Pav • A Wednesday special chicken fry with veggies (don’t recall the exact name) • Plain omelette, masala omelette, Anda Bhurji, and tea Sadly, none of the dishes really stood out. The food was below expectations, especially for a place known for its legacy. And the tea — it tasted like instant tea, which was a big letdown. I was looking forward to a comforting, traditional Parsi meal, but the whole experience just didn’t live up to the hype. On the plus side, they do serve beer, which may appeal to some, but overall, this visit left me disappointed. Would recommend carrying cash if you’re planning to visit — and lowering your expectations a bit

Recently visited Café Military in South Bombay – loved the vintage Irani café vibes. We had the mutton berry pulao and chicken kheema pav, both were really good. Also, they serve beer at MRP, which is a nice bonus. Great food and a chill old-school vibe. Definitely worth checking out.

Probably one of the most underrated parsi restaurants in the city. This one is a real gem. They have daily menus with 2-3 items fixed each day. It is a laid back restaurant that serves beer along with food. It's easy to miss the place while walking past it but once you have visited it... highly likely you will go back again. The portions are great, service is fast and it's easy on the pocket. It's located on a busy street near flora fountain, don't think of driving down to the location you'll have to park it at the nearest paid street parking. They accept Cash Only.
