The 16 Best Restaurants In Kendall - Miami - The Infatuation

"Cafe Oriental is a small (mostly) takeout Japanese restaurant that makes really good pork katsu, onigiri, and tonkotsu ramen. There are three picnic tables outside, but both will feel like a stove if it’s hot out. So if you’re trying to eat there, come on a day that’s overcast or chilly and order a bunch of onigiri (our favorite is the spicy cod), curry croquettes, and have yourself a little ramen party—complete with fizzy Ramune to wash it all down. Whether you decide to eat here or at home, everything you order will come in a takeout container." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino

The spicy-cod-to-rice ratio is even and the onigiri holds its shape well after the third bite. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Curry Croquette It’s about the size of your hand and if you stuck a handle in it you could use it as a ping-pong paddle. The creamy curry vegetable mixture inside makes you want to curl up in the nearest nook and listen to your moodiest playlist. You know, the one with Frank Ocean’s most heartbreaking tracks. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Tonkotsu Ramen Even if your eyebrows are sweating, order this. The cloudy broth is so rich, it’s like slurping liquid meat. Since you can’t see beyond the pork slivers and jammy egg, you don’t realize just how large this portion is. It also comes with a tiny packet of spice. Don’t be scared of it. It just gives this hot bowl a good kick. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Pork Katsu It’s objectively good and pretty straightforward. The strips of pork are crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra katsu sauce for some extra tang. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC" - Mariana Trabanino

Google
So honestly I’m gonna start off review as I had a better hopes for this place it seems very nice and I really like the selection of the food I’m excited to try the curry in the future because I am willing to try it and I feel like the food was good but it wasn’t worth the price $70 for a takoyaki and two bowls of Ramen that were not the best Ramen honestly wasn’t worth it so I won’t consider getting Ramen from this place again. The shoyu Ramen broth was very nice it was like a light meal and it was enjoyable but the kimchi Ramen was more so the broth was like OK it wasn’t something to read about and kind of hoping we got a curry or some on gui instead. The takoyaki was a nice appetizer or snack. Overall the price was absolutely bonkers for us.

This is a must if you're cycling on US1! The onigiri are so big and filling! I had the Peach Plumb Onigiri and felt so satisfied. I'm only now exploring the various types of Onigiri and found the Peach Plumb to be rather salty so I'm excited to try the other selections. It would also be exciting to see some fresh desert options, like melonpan, bean buns, or manju. If the regular food is good, I can only assume their desserts would be great too. The shop has outdoor seating which is fantastic, although it is bombarded with the nearby highway traffic noise, it's not the shop's fault. Cycling on US1 is a great way to get to this shop if you're coming from the south. There's even bike parking in the neighboring shop! Definitely a cycle pitstop with friendly shop keepers!

Google
I enjoy the food from this place, my favorite dishes are the chayote salad and katsu curry bowl. The only thing I wish they had is inside searing. You can eat outside or pick up

Google
No gimmicks! Those authentic flavor and quality of homestyle cooking warm my heart. The Ramen soup flavor is spot on. Shoyu egg was perfectly prepared and full of flavors. Kimchi tastes legit! Definitely not mass produced stuff. I am very happy that I found this place.

Google
Very hole in the wall spot in all the best ways. Very low price (especially for the quality) and the food was a total hit. Mostly a take out place but there are picnic benches outside if you wanna eat there too

Google
Lovely spot! Ramen was great. The pork katsu was a little bit dry but still pretty tasty. The price is also good! Oh they only have take out option but feel free to dining at the outside table. We had lunch and enjoy the sunshine

Google
Amazing hospitality! The owners are great and attentive and the food was amazing. Everything we tried was a great pick and great value. Will come back again! Definitely the best karage I’ve had! Update: Since last time i came, I’ve been here 3 times in the span of a week cus its such an amazing spot, I love everything in their menu and the onigiris are special ♥️😭

Google
This place is so good and the lady taking our order was so sweet~ the food came out pretty fast and the taste was amazing! I haven’t had authentic Japanese chicken katsu curry in Miami so I was excited to try it and the unagi don too which btw both were delicious 🩷 10/10

Yelp
I so love this tiny little ramen shop. It is my absolute favorite for their Onigiri . I've finally tried every onigiri they have, and all are excellent but Ikura is always my favorite. The ramen is fantastic. I also finally tried them all. They are super friendly and always receive me with a smile and laughter as I struggle to decide what I want. I highly recommend. Best for pick up. There is only outdoor seating and the US1 highway is a bit too much if it can be avoided. My only issue is I want to buy everything to take home but as it is all freshly made, it doesn't store well. Despite my best effort, I can only eat so much.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service! We ordered take out, and the food was ready just in the time they said. We ordered a Miso soup, dumplings, curry croquettes and curry Katsu chicken. Everything was very tasty and portions were perfect for us. The Curry Croquettes were very good, only problem was that I didn't order more of them because they were a hit! This is a mostly take out restaurant with no inside seating. They do have some tables outside, but it was raining the day we went. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
This is a great little spot for a variety of Asian dishes (mostly Japanese) made to order. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by a sweet lady who took my order and offered to make my Kimchi Ramen extra spicy (which I said yes to, of course!). It was about a 10 minute wait to get my food, which I learned is all made-to-order, including the Onigiri. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious, with the ramen being super savory and spicy and the Ikura Onigiri salty and flavorful. I'm looking forward to trying a few more dishes including the Takoyaki, Tuna Onigiri, and Chicken Katsu.

Yelp
This place was amazing! I will definitely be coming back! It is located in a tiny shopping center on a street behind US1. There is parking in the front that is a little tricky but additional parking in the back as well. They have many vegetarian options, but today I was in the mood for onigiri. They have a plum option and a seaweed option. I tried both of them, and they were both SO good! My favorite thing I ordered was the curry croquette. It was made fresh, and it was crispy and delicious. The sauce was great! The tofu with scallions was super soft and a good addition as well. The price also felt reasonable for the amount of food that we ordered to-go. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and sweet. She gave good suggestions as well as to what to order. There isn't any indoor seating, but there is some outdoor. Since it was the middle of the day and all the seating was in the sun, we took the food back to our place, but it was all still warm and delicious when we sat down to eat!

Yelp
Picked up a delicious dinner for two! We ordered: Fried oysters Chicken katsu Onigiri chasu (pork) Onigiri unagi (eel) Pork belly with white rice & an egg Everything was fantastic! I had to add my pictures separately because Yelp only allows 10 photos per review now.

Yelp
Went to Brandsmart near dadeland mall and came over here for some onigiri. I got the cha-shu, tatsuta-age, salmon onigiri. Also got their kimchi miso soup and takoyaki. In terms of onigiri I like the cha-shu the most! The cha-shu was very flavorful and not that fatty! Tatsuta-age probably next? Chicken was soft and it was kind of saucy but not really 100% to my taste. Tbh was hoping for a crunch since fried chicken but the sauce made the chicken soft. Salmon one was ok, was like just salt and cooked salmon. Will try the other onigiri but would skip buying the salmon and tatsuta-age ones. Kimchi miso soup was very flavorful. I added more water to my soup and it was still very flavorful! Would get this one again. They put a lot of kimchi inside. Was a very flavorful companion to wash down some of the rice from the onigiri. Takoyaki was pretty good but tbh I don't remember much about it. Might get them again though. No seating inside. Only outdoor seating. It's a very small place. The lady at the cash register was really nice. I saw her talking with one of their regulars that she hasn't seen in a while. Was really cute!

Ariel R.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall time location with fresh quality tasty food. We had the lunch boxes and both the teriyaki and spicy chicken were tasty. Everything hot and quick turn around.

Isaias G.

Yelp
This place always hits the spot. I live a bit of a drive away but I love making the drive when time permits. I always get the onigiri, I've had the katsu and gyoza too which are also both delicious. I plan to try their tonkotsu soon!
google avatar

Aurora G.

Yelp
Only took a picture of the onigiri because it was so cute - or else I would've scarfed it down like the rest of the food we tried! We meant to have leftovers but everything was so good we ate it all. In addition to the different onigiris, my boyfriend and I ordered karaage and a pork katsu curry. OMG. So yummy. The onigiris had so much filling and were so flavorful. The service was great as well! 100% going back to this place to try everything on the menu.

Yelp
In case it's not clear from other reviews and photos, this place is very small. The inside only has an ordering counter and no seating. Outside, there are a few tables shared with a few other neighboring restaurants, where you can eat your take out. I had wanted to try their ramen, but decided that it's not the set up for it, so I opted for the onigiri, which I always had fond memories of when it sustained me on a student budget in Japan, and takoyaki. The onigiri comes in a neat package (you can get these prewrapped seaweeds at Kimchi and other Asian stores) that allows you tear off the plastic and have the seaweed wrapped around the rice almost magically. The flavor was okay, fit the bill of filling me up. The takoyaki is pretty good, it came out piping hot. As I ate at the table, I had to battle with the wind to keep the plastic boxes and napkins from flying away. I probably would have enjoyed the food more under better circumstances. I can see this place being a good option for take outs for people in the neighborhood, but sadly not for me.

Yelp
Nobody that i know of has rice balls to go like this place. (Onigiris) and the service is extremely nice! The FOOD WAS AMAZING. The onigirs were the bomb! My friend also got i believw a pho and he enjoyed it. Just make sure you keep the containers of liquid straight because they will spill in your bag!

Marcela O.

Yelp
We have lived around the area for many many years and just today decided to give it a try. OMG!! By far, THE best onigiri that we have had, ever! We ordered the pork onigiri with mustard sauce and the eel onigiri with eel sauce. The ratio of rice to protein was well balanced. We also had the pork ramen which was very flavorful and satisfying. The lady that took our order was very nice and sweet. We will most definitely be returning often.

Yelp
Have about four experiences with this restaurant now and all have been very very positive. The staff the food the ambience of the restaurant itself being just a small little hole in the wall right down the street from the crib. It's really really convenient. Food is always done very quick. I've never seen more than one or two people in there at the same time as myself, there's outside seating. If you like authentic food, I can't recommend this place enough
google avatar

Naomi S.

Yelp
Stopped by Cafe Oriental for a quick lunch in between furniture shopping in the area, and it cured my hanger and enabled me to go on. Everything was made fresh, including the onigiri and karaage. I love that you could choose soba to be served hot or cold-- I chose cold dipping soba with tempura since it was a hot day. Service was fast and friendly, and there are picnic tables outside to eat at. Go visit!

Rickson C.

Yelp
If there was a 6 star rating for this place i would give it to them. I've known about this place for a little more than a year and they are the best every time. They have the best customer service and will always greet you with the warmest welcome. The food is amazing and they even sometimes make food that is not on the menu such as katsudon. Highly recommend this to anyone!!! Wish nothing but the best for their business. Wrote this review and forgot to publish it but STILL THE BEST!!
google avatar

Salena L.

Yelp
I love this place! my sister and I come regularly for the salmon onigiri, we also love their pork ramen. great food here, definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yesenia P.

Yelp
One of my number 1 favorite restaurants to support and order from!! Food is always delicious and authentic. The cashier which I assume is the owner is always pleasant/sweet and has offered me small sides when I've eaten at the location for no charge. Just a kind gesture from her part. Only con is the restaurant is small and only has outdoor seating which is no biggie for me. I still make the 20 min drive south to have a bowl of soba! Truly the best!

Dedd K.

Yelp
never in my life would I imagine myself going out of my way to write a review but this place deserves it. the best Asian food in the area by far. this place is a must try and they deserve all the publicity. 1000/10 recommended. also Amazing service and their lunch menu is heaven sent. please try this place. you won't regret and it and will be back 100%

Neyda V.

Yelp
This place was great. We are huge ichimi fans, however we also try every ramen place we find in Miami, and so far this is the only place that we have enjoyed as much. The ramen was great, delicious soft pork, and I had the curry katsu chicken which was also wonderful.

Jill D.

Yelp
We tried the ramen and shrimp dumplings and both delicious! We are looking forward to coming back!!

Ralph N.

Yelp
I just can't get enough of the place! The food is always amazing and, in my opinion, fairly priced for what they're giving you and compared to other Japanese kitchens. Only Onigiri spot I know from South Miami and I usually order a second set to take home for later or the next day, it's that good. My personal favorite is the Curry, will come back again for lunch to explore that exclusive menu.

Lovell R.

Yelp
Amazing little hole in the wall with home cooked Japanese dishes. Definitely don't leave without taking a few onigiri home.
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! I lovingly call the owner Mama Ramen because she's so nice and nurturing. I always get the Ton Katsu Ramen and it's literally melt in your mouth meat it's so delicious and packs so much flavor. It's i early my favorite neighborhood ramen spot and I'm so lucky it's walking distance from my house We are regular customers. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Melba A.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. She modified the teriyaki sauce to be less sweet and more spicy and that was the cherry on top for me. Tables are outside.

Steve S.

Yelp
Stopped by to browse menu when we went to pick up açai bowls at Raw South and WOW! Cafe Oriental was awesome. We tried 3 ONIGIRI (Rice Handballs); one tuna, one eel and one fried chicken. Excellent and fun to eat. Also , ordered a Beef Yakisoba; bursting with flavors and beef was tender. Will be back very soon. Highly recommended. Staff member was friendly and took time to explain the menu and everything was packaged neatly. Thank me later.

Yelp
Excellent food & service, our first time but I think I'll be a regular client. Nice place, nice people, amazing food I recommend it.
google avatar

Miyuki S.

Yelp
Quaint little place by Dadeland mall with picnic tables to eat at. Very authentic Japanese food! I would highly recommend the Kimchi ramen and the Onigiri. The owner is so sweet and quick service! I come back here almost every other week - I'd highly recommend!
google avatar

Will G.

Yelp
Juan, Selina, thank you for your attentive welcoming each time. Truly great to have this gem around the corner from home, offering so much variety of Asian fusion dishes, and the Ramen!!
google avatar

Miguel A.

Yelp
Excelent food & service , all I can say is that I'm a regular now and recommend this restaurant to anybody that wants to try something different and delicious
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Excellent ramen and appetizers! Friendly service and got us the food in the time promised. They went above and beyond.
google avatar

Valerie L.

Yelp
Delicious spot! Great place with great prices. The food was very fresh and filling. Everything we tried was authentic and was a nice change from other trendy restaurants in town. It is a small counter and it is geared more for outside seating and take out. But if you want real Asian food at a good price I suggest trying this little spot.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food offered from this establishment. I highly recommend the Ramen (Osaka style) and the tempura.

evan f.

Yelp
Just happened to be near by and walked in... What a nice little spot..Togo take mom and pop style place... You can eat outside there's a few tables around for the few restaurants there.. I've have Ramen pretty much everywhere in miami.. This is make from scratch we're talking 15-20hr low and slow tonkotsu broth that's rich and creamy... not just some soup base... The pork chashu was melting tender.. I opted to try the Kimchi version today.. They were nice and put it on the side. And last but also very important was the ramen egg, perfect and yolky and gooey.. Again for miami that is pretty much as good as it gets
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
The food is amaaaaaazing. Best onigiri and ramen in town. The service is great too. Best mom and pop type restaurant. A great hidden gem that cannot be missed.

Midori S.

Yelp
Small location with outdoor seating, perfect home cooked Japanese meals, flavors are balanced and the owners are very kind.
google avatar

Stan D.

Yelp
We saw this place which was fairly new and decided to try this place out for lunch. The food is traditional and fusion mixed, mainly Japanese. We had the Onigiri with Spicy Cod Roe, Yakisoba, Kimchi, Vegetable Spring Roll, Fried Chicken and Shoyu Ramen. The food is good, but portion are small and little pricey for what you get in terms in the amount of food. So if you are near Target or The Fresh Market and want Asian Traditional and/or Fusion, this is the place.
google avatar

Bart S.

Yelp
I've had take out four times and each time the food was very fresh and tasty. There is parking in the rear if needed.
google avatar

Selgrys C.

Yelp
I love coming here! The food is so fresh and delish! They are so sweet and helpful. My son loves the ramen and it's a pretty decent portion. In general, everything I have ever ordered is so so yummy. This tiny spot is definitely a hidden gem. A must try!
google avatar

Eunice J.

Yelp
Run by two cute people, this new spot is a good go to quick Asian fix! Has a lot of different options of food, but I've been craving soba for a while so decided to give this new place a try! Great service, kind people, good food!

Julie V.

Yelp
Never come to Miami without fitting in a meal at Café Oriental. The restaurant might be small but the food never disappoints. Tonight I'm enjoying Miso soup with New Zealand fish as well as lightly breaded New Zealand fish. Totally loving every bite! Thank you Juan and Salina!

Avi W.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Japanese food. Everything I have had has been great- the ramen is fantastic, the yakisoba noodle dishes are delicious and more. I highly recommend Cafe Oriental.
google avatar

Alec M.

Yelp
I went with my girlfriend and we both loved the food. Excellent service from the staff too. Well worth it, and it wasn't even expensive! I'm coming back soon.
google avatar

Jacquie B.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. We just popped in for some soup and the place did not disappoint. I got veggie with an egg and my partner got shoyu ramen. The service was fast and so nice. And damn, the food was so hot and so delicious.
google avatar

Alicia S.

Yelp
Now it's a "must" that I have to return to Cafe Oriental. This place was SO good that I didn't take a moment to take a picture of any of the food. Cafe Oriental is located in a small shopping plaza on the corner of 98th street and 77th avenue. You can find parking in the front or rear of the location. There is only outdoor seating as the restaurant itself is more aimed at take out and is small in size. We sampled the spicy chicken salad (so spicy but so good), the spring rolls, chicken katsu and a curry empanada. Everything was packed with flavor, made to order with fresh ingredients. It really had that "home cooked" flair to it. And the owners are just the sweetest individuals. They go above and beyond to make sure your food is cooked to perfection and take the extra step to check in on your experience. I look forward to returning.

Anelith O.

Yelp
Delicious food! Chef explained he was trained by a Japanese chef and learned all the techniques! I tried the Tom-Kotsu Ramen and I wanted more! service was nice, prices incredible affordable. Fancy food for not-to-fancy pockets. Coming back soon!
google avatar

Khris L.

Yelp
Love this place, great food and service every time. Owners are always pleasant, warm and welcoming. I highly recommend anything in the menu.

Benjamin C.

Yelp
My wife says the pork in the Raman is the best pork she's ever had. First place I've had Japanese curry (Katsu Curry) and I love it.
google avatar

Yvette J.

Yelp
Excelente !! Yummy Small little place , outside sitting and the food is so delicious . You have to try it
google avatar

Janelle G.

Yelp
I'm so happy this place opened near me. It's such a low key easy spot to get to and the food was very good indeed. Tasted authentic and excellent quality. They opened not too long ago, and the staff is very friendly. Right off US1, it's in a little plaza with a few other restaurants. We had the chicken katsu which was so good! Really hot and soooo crunchy. I will be back for more. My boyfriend had the chicken yakisoba noodles that were so good! I ate half of his. I want to try the ramen next time which also looked delish. The onigiri was ok. It was a lot of rice and just nothing to write home about. But the other menu items are calling my name so I will be back! There is nowhere to sit inside as the place is teeny tiny. There are picnic benches outside or you can place your order to go which is what we did. It was made fast and we barely waited before they came out with our order. Definitely recommend!! Check them out
