The 11 Best Thai Restaurants In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"At the Galleria restaurant Thai Garden, expect to have a peaceful meal with a bowl of citrus-y tom kha kai and steaming drunken noodles laced with slivers of beef. In between bites, and with a few jazzy covers of top 40 hits in the background, take in the ornate decorations and make a mental note of how to carry the serenity home with you. Thai Garden is the place to be when you have a midday papaya salad craving, need a meal to materialize as soon as you order instantaneously, or are just in dire need of some snappy Thai sausage on a Thursday night." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi

Google
PRO'S: Cafe Panda Garden is definitely our place to dine for great Chinese food & service. We have been weekly regulars for 29 years and often being wine since the restaurant is BYOB. We like the spicy green beans, spicy steamed pork dumplings and the best lettuce wraps with shredded meat in Houston. CON'S: Absolutely NONE. SUMMARY: Cafe Panda Garden offers great food, great service all at reasonable prices. We will continue to return often.

So some stuff can be a little pricey like the sauce, however the entree price I think is reasonable for the quality. I really love the Chichen garlic with fried rice. It was delicious and very soft and juicy and my husband loves the wonton soup.

We came in last night for dinner to celebrate my son 8th grade graduation.. this place has been a place i had came before so many times to eat with my family.. I give it a 4 stars because the service wasn't good at all. My husband had to get up twice to refill my son water cup. We were never offer any refills on our drinks.. I had to say can we get more drinks loud to get her attention because she was on her phone. We were barely half way eating and she brings us the check which for me that really rude. N still didn't ask us for refills or ask if we needed anything else.. our check was $138.65 i only left her a $22 tip but honestly I shouldn't left anything... it probably be the last time I come here if the service doesn't change..

Great food for the whole family! Kid chicken plate and General Tso is the family go to. Service is great but a little slower then pre-COVID times. Great value for a family of 4 always have leftovers for later because of all the food that comes with the special. We have to limit the kids on the fried noodles but the staff is always kind enough to refill the bowl for us.

Google
My favorite Chinese in the city! The sauces are divine and they don’t use heavy oils and will adjust spicing to order. Best rice in town! They have used them for take out since 1999 when they had another location on Wesleyan. I’ve glanced at the negative reviews about thick accents and poor communication which are seriously in poor taste. I have never had a miscommunication and I have used this restaurant for decades! They have catered for special events and teacher appreciation separately packed meals during covid! It’s a gem!

Google
It's a nicely decorated restaurant. With decent food and big portions. Service is good as well. Their corn soup used frozen corn, it definitely gives it a twist to the regular egg drop soup.

Yelp
A delicious feast we had here at Cafe Panda Garden on 1858 Fountain View. The sampler was delicious with crab Rangoons, spring rolls, and shrimp tempura. They have excellent tempura!!!! General Tso's Chicken was amazing. I'm not sure if this place is owned by the same family that owned Panda Garden in old Sugarland and First Colony in the 90s. Very similar General Tso's Chicken and took me back. I haven't had decent General Tso's chicken in about 15 years. The fried rice was not as good but, probably better for you so, I appreciated that. Service was great. Nice restaurant and atmosphere. We had a great time. FYI: It's BYOB. Fortunately, there is a Spec's on the other end of the strip center.

Yelp
I honestly love this restaurant it's close to home and the food is delicious. I don't eat much but the servings last me a good 2 days. I'm able to have lunch and dinner.

Yelp
Beautiful presentation Fast turn around on orders Relaxing ambiance Great quality taste Very price efficient And most importantly, fantastic Service Great spot in the area for delicious food to enjoy by yourself or with friends. Give this place a stop by and have a relaxing delicious meal. The employees are very kind and hardworking ( I always tip very well here )

Sharon F.

Yelp
The food looks absolutely beautiful. The restaurant is clean, but the brown sauce is absolutely horrible. It taste like vinegar and the waitress, I think its South American and does not speak or understand English well.
google avatar

Diem A.

Yelp
Great Chinese food! I've been coming here for years. The meat is always so tender in every dish. I never order General Tso's chicken but I do get it here. The sauce is so good. The owner is very nice and works hard. There are very few places where I order fried rice but I also get that here. Consistently great food.

William F.

Yelp
$9 for Edamame. Dinner menu is extremely over priced. Non verbal service. Small portions. Fried rice was cold. Never again.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Food delicious Service excellent Ambiance quiet, soothing, cultural ambience wonderful

Yelp
Great food easy to order, food came quick and no issues. I'll certainly be back when I'm in the area.

Glenda T.

Yelp
The food and service were great. I love their hot and sour soup! I'll definitely be back!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food. Great quality. Only con is $$$ Dined inside and had a pleasant experience. Had delivery and food came within 30 min hot and fresh Takeout is also reliable. Consistently hot and fresh too.

Yelp
Do you know someone who LOVES PANDAS? They should be here! Tomorrow of not sooner! Everything except a live panda to make them happy to be alive PLUS wonderful food , friendly service, and great music to dine with!

Jill P.

Yelp
Great food and great service!!! I loved every part of the experience. I left with leftovers to eat later :) First time here and will definitely be back!

Kellie K.

Yelp
So nice and food is great! My family and I arrived a few minutes prior to their opening. We were waiting patiently until it was time for the cafe to open when, much to our surprise, the doors opened early for us. We were seated, had great service in a clean environment, followed by awesome food. This is my new place!

Joe R.

Yelp
So I saw this on Uber eats and decided to give it a try. I would say the following- the ingredients though plentiful are the bottom of the barrel as far as quality: the shrimp tastes like raw sewage. I had to spit them out. They must have gotten them really cheap abuse they tasted absolutely disgusting. I basically threw the food in the garbage
google avatar

Asia M.

Yelp
Food was very good. I love to find local Chinese places. The food came out very fast as well.
google avatar

Zohra B.

Yelp
Excellent food. We ordered chicken and vegetables with brown sauce and the chicken was very tender and the vegetables were cooked perfectly.

Rolando F.

Yelp
This has to be the worst combination fried rice I have ever tasted. We even brought the complete order back and they told us to "dispute the charge with your bank" instead of a simple refund.
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Dined here with a couple of friends for lunch today. Food was good, service was fast and friendly. Portions were also good. Prices were a bit high for casual Chinese fare, even taking inflation into account, but the place was clean, and overall, I give it 5 stars because all 3 of us talked about wanting to return.
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
I've live near here forever and finally decided to try this place. I got the sesame chicken lunch special and it was pretty good! It reminded me of the same special at Fu Garden down the street. It can with won ton soup (didn't like it too much) and 2 crab Rangoon pieces. Service was super fast and friendly. I love that the lunch specials last until 4pm also!
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
This is my go-to for Chinese takeout. Some of the entrees are pricey, but the portions are huge so it balances out - there will be plenty for leftovers! I love their dumplings and fried rice. When ordering the fried rice online for a to-go or delivery order, note the rice options. If you want typical fried rice, choose the "fried" option. If you choose white or brown rice, it will be the rice and veggies mixed, not wok-fried.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. Ordered delivery, and it didn't come. Called after two hours and they said they weren't able to find it. They did not call or anything, and were abrupt over the phone. When it finally came, the driver (Simon) demanded a tip before I even had a chance to give one. Not only that, he gave me inaccurate change. Food was delicious, but not at all worth the stress. Don't order from here.
google avatar

Natalie N.

Yelp
I'm not sure if this a new place or not, but I must say I really enjoyed it. I got 3 dishes last night which were are great. Crab puffs wonton soup and pan fried noodle. All the dishes were great and even better portion sizes. I definitely recommend it if you are in the galleria area. Can't wait to try other dishes next time.
google avatar

Gino T.

Yelp
This place is great! We've been eating here for years, primarily picking up food to dine at home. We love their combo dishes, available for lunch or for dinner (at a higher price). Great choices for your entree, with a choice of three different soups, two different appetizers, and three different rice choices. Their Sesame Chicken and the Spicy and Tangy Chicken are two of our favorites, but there are plenty of other excellent combo dishes, as well. Try also the Eggplant Home Style--it's phenomenal! We also recommend the Moo Shu Pork if you dine in, as they will roll them for you. (We haven't learned how to do this yet.)

Veronica B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 15 to 20 years or so and this is the first time I have had bad service at this location. The staff and owner were beyond rude. The waitress makes a lot of noise when she is picking up the plates, when she puts food away, when she is putting the food away she just throws the food in the "to go" container, she and the owner pick up food as you are still eating and put their arms over your head (as you are still eating). The owner's excuse is that she is lower class and came from the mountains. That's why she has no manners. Unbelievable!!!
google avatar

Carol K.

Yelp
Delicious! The hot and sour soup was amazing. The tofu homestyle was wonderful. Definitely will go back many times!
google avatar

Jigna P.

Yelp
We ordered Uber eats from here for a lazy Saturday. Ordered salt and pepper tofu, meat steamed dumplings, and chicken in garlic sauce Tofu was bland with no salt and pepper of flavour of any choice. Just friend with some green onions tossed in. The dumplings wrapper was super thick and doughy but the filling was delicious. We'd just cut them all open and ate the filling alone. - these would be delicious if the wrappers were a lot thinner! The chicken in garlic sauce was delicious. Full of flavour and freshness. You can tell the veggies were fresh and the meat was clean.

Stacy O.

Yelp
So yummy! Spent all day moving and was starving. Ordered appetizers and orange chicken. Picked up to go and everything was delicious! Best orange chicken EVER! Food was hot and waiting when we arrived. The appetizer sampler is a must. Have found our new go-to Chinese food.
google avatar

T L.

Yelp
Great food and friendly staff. Went during lunch, which had a lot of specials to choose from, comes with soup of choice, egg roll or crab wonton, and entree
google avatar

Aly C.

Yelp
They ask for tip when you call in your order but always forget something. "Our driver is very busy , can I just give you credit for it" sorry no , that was my dinner. Ok that will be 40 minutes. Well , my advice is to have someone check and review your to go orders. Other wise I wouldn't have tipped 25% for a incomplete order.
google avatar

Yelp
By far my go to Chinese restaurant in Houston. The spicy French green beans are out of this world!! They are super crunchy with a spicy brown sauce over it that goes perfectly with the rice. Plus the combo meal comes with soup, ( hot and sour, egg drop with corn, and wonton) personally the hot and sour is my favorite, rice (fried or white), and either crab ragoons or an egg roll. The fact you can customize things like the spice level or exclude/ include ingredients without a fuss is super awesome. Plus there are sooooo many adorable pandas in the restaurant it truly is a panda garden.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Just a plain good Chinese take out place. They have a spicy sauce tat they give out with egg rolls that is so good. 1 - Beef, Mongolian 3.5 - Beef, Mushroom - starts tasty, but gets old quick 4.5 - Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken - small pieces 3.5 - Chicken, orange - good, 4x large chunks 2 - Dumpling, meat. 4 - Edamame - not really salted 5 - Fried Rice 4 - Spicy Green Beans - they can be very, very good; like a 5+. But they're inconsistent and typically range from 3 to 4.5. 5 - Spring Roll 1 - Szechwan Dumpling UBER EATS NOTES: - DINNER - Entree ~20oz, rice 10oz, small to go cylinder a soup and a spring roll or crab puff - MENU - Entrée 35oz, and Chinese container of rice.
google avatar

Drew K.

Yelp
Not the best Chinese in the neighborhood and there's practically a Chinese restaurant every 200 yards in the area. We ordered delivery and the portions were fairly small for what we paid for. I expected to have ordered enough for 4 based on usual Chinese Devliery portions but ended up with a very small helping of each plate in the to go boxes. Maybe it's just a delivery flaw and dine in is better? Hate being the only reviewer not drinking the kool-aid and giving them 5 stars. Also, one my favorite dishes, Pork Lo mein, was very bland and the noodles were spaghetti noodles which threw me off.
google avatar

Claudia C.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a causal and relaxing dine in experience. Some of the entrees are pricey, but the portions are very big and can easily be shared between 2 people. Also, this place is BYOB spot and they even have bottle openers and cold glasses served to you as you walk in. I was highly impressed. Recommendations: Appetizers: Steamed Meat Dumplings Seafood: Seamed shrimp with vegetables ( Everything was cooked perfectly so I highly recommend) Meat: The orange chicken was good just be careful for the peppers they cook in the sauce, eating one of those will light your mouth on fire. The only reason I knocked it down one star is because the menu was very hard to read and understand. The do not list portion sizes and its hard to know if the place is just pricey or if the portions are big. In addition, I felt the menu was out of order and hard to read. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back!

Yelp
A family friend took us here for lunch a few days ago, and in all honesty, it is one of the cutest restaurants I have stepped foot here in Houston. The place is filled with stuffed pandas (with the occasional paintings) which shouldn't have come as a surprise since the name of the place was called 'Cafe PANDA Garden' (I actually counted 29 in total). The food was okay though; I ordered the chicken and vegetable plate and the chicken was really good. However, the fried rice was really dry and the spring rolls (filled with grilled chicken) was even drier and lacked flavor as well. However, the customer service was excellent and everyone was friendly and checked up on us frequently as well.

Neilios D.

Yelp
Great comfortable restaurant. First time in, my wife and I try to eat clean. We made several special requests and all were warmly welcomed and accommodated. Yummy food. Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Pretty good. Ate inside about 8pm on a Friday, there were only 3 or 4 other tables full. Calm music playing, food was good, service was good. Price was about average.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I stopped by Panda Garden and had their Sesame Chicken, Fried Rice & Wonton Soup Lunch Combo. Their portion sizes generous and overall pretty tasty. They have a BYOB policy which is always a plus in my book. Also the staff was friendly and prompt.

Mimi L.

Yelp
Randomly tried this place for the first time bc I was craving Chinese takeout for lunch- you know...those lunch specials that come with soup...the portion size was perfect and everything was so good. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Redeate A.

Yelp
Gives you a fix when craving NY style Chinese food. Have had about 3/4 of the menu so far and really happy with how well the food is prepared l. And especially how well instructions are followed when ordering on uber eats

Gary M.

Yelp
Love this place , generous portions with lotsa meat , apps are great , standards plus , clean atmosphere , love their jasmine tea .

Yelp
I didn't have time to buy food one day at work so I decided to get something delivered (through Yelp). Fortunately, this place has a $1.50 delivery charge!!! Who can beat that - only requires a $15 minimum charge. Since it was just me, I decided to get my lunch & dinner in one. I ordered the general tso & vegetable chicken, both with steamed rice, soup and egg roll/crab puffs. Love the containers they come in - they're perfect for meal prep and I am definitely reusing them. The general tso chicken was okay, I've had better. They weren't that flavorful, BUT I will give it to them - those were the biggest pieces of chicken in a general tso dish I've ever had. The vegetable chicken dish was yummyyyy. Definitely recommend. Their prices are a little higher than a lot of Chinese restaurants' lunch specials ($9/10 compared to $6/7), but I guess if you consider the location, that would be the reason. Overall, everyone should try this place out. Different people, different taste buds.

Ellie M.

Yelp
Really good food! When the freeze happened this place was open & busting their butt to ghetto people a hot meal. Special shout out to the employee working the register. She was running around like crazy & still giving great service. Food is really good & portions are large. My favorite in the area!
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
The food was well packaged for delivery and the portions seemed about right. The restaurant failed to include sweet and sour sauce with crab puffs. The outside of the general tso's chicken was soggy and the taste was mediocre. Overall not a great choice but it was edible.
google avatar

Leslie W.

Yelp
Dang! Why doesn't this place deliver to my house!? After reading so many wonderful Yelp reviews the wife and I decided to check it out as an early Valentine's Day dinner. We are adding it to our rotation of favorite places to pop in for some really good food at a pretty reasonable price. Started with the Panda Sampler: 2 crab puffs that were stuffed with tasty cream cheese, fried hard and a really nice size compared to other places I have ordered them. Two spring rolls that we agreed were as good as we had ever tasted; not too hard fried, not too cabbage-y and not too greasy. And 2 pretty fantastic flattened jumbo fried shrimp. I don't know what they put in the light breading of those little shrimps - but I could make a meal out of them any day! For $9 it was a great starter to get a feel for the place. I opted for the combo meal of the spicy and tangy chicken (before 4 it's $8.75 and after 4 it's $10.75). You get a nice lunch portion of the entrée, a cup of your choice of soup and either crab puffs or spring rolls. A nice bargain at any time of day. Let me tell ya, this chicken WAS so tender I almost want to use the cliché "melt in your mouth". The first thing I did notice when the plate came was that the mushrooms were not those canned little mushrooms you often get in Chinese places. These were nice, sliced, fresh mushrooms. I thought then that someone really cared about the preparation of the food. The sauce was spicy good (they will personalize your heat level, just ask) and the veggies (red and green peppers and large slices of fresh jalapeno) did not overwhelm the dish. The fried rice I chose was nothing special...pretty much the regular rice they serve stirred up with some soy on the grill. We both really enjoyed the hot and sour soup once we added the nice crunch of the noodles available on the table. It was a thick beefy soup with your usual hot and sour ingredient suspects. I thought it was more sour than the wife...I mean, not that the wife is sour...but it was hearty and I'd order it again. The wife had beef with scallion and mushrooms. Wow! Talk about some tender beef. Again, someone in the kitchen cared enough to take fresh ingredients and put them together in a fine Chinese entrée. She got jasmine rice with her entrée. I thought it was just the usual white rice and they made a mistake. But she said she could taste the difference. Though subtle she said it really added a nice flavor to the meal. I did not notice either of the meals was covered in sesame seeds. Which is a big plus because my wife can't do seeds in her dishes anymore. The wine by the glass was pretty limited. They had bottled wine lined up along the walls but none of it seemed to be offered for you to order. Water refilled constantly (yeah!) and service was exceptional from start to finish. Kids menu, vegetarian stuff, super sized party portions for an office or party event, order online, credit cards accepted. The place had a nice feel to it...casual and yet not General Joe's casual, ya know? The $9 lunch special will bring us back again earlier in the day. The food will make us bring friends.

Matthew G.

Yelp
Power out - they are still coming through on their pending orders! Very nice manager/front person. Very impressed!
google avatar

Dwayne R.

Yelp
I have been eating at Panda Garden when they first opened on Wesleyan street. The food tastes fresh and great! The location on Fountain View was just as good, until recently. The Panda Fried Rice no longer good. It has no green onions, very bland, the rice is mushy, and has very little beef for the same price. I don't know why the change in the food, but I will not be back again!
google avatar

Alexander T.

Yelp
This place is similar to P.F. Chang's but isn't as good as that national chain. It is essentially a classier Panda Express with decent size portions. I thought that the dishes were too salty for my tastes, but I can see how people will enjoy coming here. It looks like a decent lunch place, and the prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
I was actually very happy that I tried this restaurant. I am DEFINITELY a fan of the food. I did order delivery and while my delivery was about 10 or so mins longer than the "expected" delivery and the delivery man was not that nice...it was HOT and store in nice containers. The sauces were stored in a separate, very secure, ziplock bad, it came with soy sauce packets, asian chili sauce, dumpling sauce, and fortune cookies. . My order was fried dumplings and a full size orange chicken (they don't offer this on the lunch menu, sadly). Fried Dumplings were SUPER YUMMY. I am a friend dumpling LOVER!!! These are not the BEST dumplings I have ever hard, simply because they were "fried" tasting, still very soft even though they had marks as if they were pan seared, I prefer mine a bit firmer... but that's a preference. Now, the inside of the dumpling was so good, super juicy and tasty! Would def order again, might request for them to be a little more done BUT most places don't accommodate... Orange Chicken also very good. Was I WOWed..? No. Would I order again? Yes. They were good, flavorful...no spice even though I ordered medium. Lots of Orange peel in there which while taste good was annoying to peel off each piece chicken and not yummy to eat. It was also CHICKEN, big, yummy pieces of chicken. I had to use a knife to cut each piece like three times and I have a big mouth so thats saying alot on the size. Steamed rice... I LOVE steamed rice and it can so often be made wrong in my opinion..too mushy, too hard...this was perfect, tasted very good. In short, yes order, you will like it... BUT I will for sure try the General Tso's next time.
