The 7 Best New Bakeries in and Around Boston | Eater Boston

"Cafe Pastel, the all-day cafe located inside luxury hotel Raffles, may not be as flashy as its nighttime siblings in the building — modern Portuguese restaurant Amar, sexy Italian spot La Padrona, tucked-away speakeasy the Blind Duck, and others — but it’s just as worthy of a stop for some outstanding food (and there’s no reservation needed). Amar’s executive pastry chef Sylvain Haage oversees Cafe Pastel’s lineup, which includes flaky croissants, scones, muffins, and bread alongside iconic Portuguese treats like pastel de nata and malasada, a fried dough that gets special treatment here with a light and airy sweet cream filling." - Nathan Tavares

Google
Very cute cafe but very limited in seating. Basically a nook on the first floor situated between the elevators. They did a great job with service and food prices are comparable to other cafes. More of a grab and go place but if you’re lucky enough to find table or bench sitting then you’ll enjoy the ambience immensely.

Great sourdough! Would come back for that. In general is very overpriced for the quality of the drinks. Matcha was a 5/10 and it was like 7 dollars so definitely wouldn’t repeat that. But the atmosphere is great and the chairs are comfy. Is good for the views.

Google
This is a one star place. It is a tiny and cramped space, the service is so slow and they are not trained to listen to your order and then prepare it. They close at 2 pm. We tried to order a sandwich and were told they do not serve until 11:30. Why is it on the blackboard then? We came back at noon and ordered sandwiches again, only to be told she had to call the kitchen and see if they could do it. They are disorganized, and a complete joke for a "5 Star" Hotel. They give you one word answers or a generic response that means NOTHING! Their response to this review is auto generated and not sincere. Do not bother going here.

The people were super nice and it had a cute aesthetic.

Google
Definitely not what expected in a negative way. I was very excited to go and try Cafe Pastel and was disappointed. Even tho the place is small it’s very beautiful and clean, loved the atmosphere. However, I asked for a Matcha latte and specifically asked for it to be in a cup not a to go cup. They gave me a Mocha latte instead of Matcha, they gave it to me in a to go cup, and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever drank. I threw away $8 latte. Not worth the hype.

Cafe Pastel is a very cute and intimate coffee shop nestled within the Raffles Hotel. The entrance is a little difficult to find from the street, but the hotel employees were very happy to show us our way into the coffee shop. The coffee, pastries and yogurt were all excellent and arrived in a timely manner. I would definitely come back again.

Delicious croissants, Portuguese custard tarts and coffee but above all excellent service. The young lady with reddish hair was most attentive which made the whole experience a true pleasure. Will be back!

Yum, yum, yum. The best baked goods ever! We also bought a loaf of sourdough, it was gone in one day, worth a visit.

Yelp
My partner and I shared a malasada - TASTE: 4/5 - sweet dough and tasty custard, tasted better than I expected! Not many malasadas in the Boston area, so it was worth the visit TEXTURE: 4/5 - powdered w sugar on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, w the balance of the custard filling PRICE: 4/5 - paid $5 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied our dessert craving SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 1:30pm on a Sunday, only one woman was behind the counter, and only a couple people came in and out while we were there. Note: Cafe Pastel closes (early!) at 2pm everyday ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - chic, small space off the Raffles hotel lobby w a large bathroom PARKING: 4/5 - got a free street spot on Columbus Ave and walked over

Yelp
The coffee is pretty good and comes in a fancy tall glass. The cafe is not too big and has limited seating but I really liked the tall ceiling and the decoration. I got the portugués egg tart which I thought was okay. I think it would have been good if there is a toaster to warm it up alittle since the egg tart was cold and moist. The workers were really nice and made sure we were happy with our order. It is a good place to come if you are in the area and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

Yelp
This cafe is a nice vibe with good desserts and coffee. The service is really nice and they bring the coffee to you! One thing that I didn't like is that they didn't have coffee flavorings for their coffee/lattes.

Yelp
When you have the word "Pastal" as your name, one would think your Pastal de Nata would be a grand slam. Maybe one of the worst I have ever had. Let's not even discuss the fact that it was $6.42 plus tip. I guess I expect that b/c it is located at Raffles. But it just wasn't good on so many levels. The pastry was tough and chewy. It was like you had to bite and tear it was so tight. The custard was overly sweet (which is shocking coming from me the sugar king) and there was an excessive amount of cinnamon. Huge disappointment. Only thing I got, grabbed a quick one Togo. Maybe a 1 Star is unfair given their other stuff may be great...but I it was a bit unforgiving to me.

Yelp
Fantastic pastries. Latte was delicious. A small place and only a couple of tables but worth the trip

Yelp
A new coffee shop nestled inside the Raffles Boston hotel. The staff is nice and the space is well decorated. There is very limited seating, it seems to be more of a grab and go place, however the hotel staff was very kind and allowed guests to sit in the lobby. I really loved the coffee itself and my experience here, however, the iced coffees also come in a paper cup which truly destroyed the coffee drinking experience for me. The lid just felt wrong every time I took a sip and felt paper instead of glass/plastic. Maybe next time I'd get my coffee "for here" and stay to sip it instead.

Yelp
This Cafe is right next door to my office and I was excited to hear they were opening after I tried their Sourdough bread at Amar, the Portuguese restaurant at the Raffles Hotel. Café Pastel is a very small and cozy place. I would not plan on meeting people for a sit-down here, as there are only 2-3 tables and few chairs. It has a very exclusive feel, more like a high-end chocolaterie than a bakery. When you buy a croissant to go, a server in a suit will place it in a nice laced bag like you would get at an exclusive store rather than a regular brown bag. Their selection is limited but sufficient for a quick bite to eat at breakfast. Their pastries are excellent and their Pastel de Nata tastes just like I remember from Lisbon. Considering they have Tatte across the street a Flour just a block away, I wish them luck and hope they are here to stay!
