40 NYC Inexpensive Dining Destinations Open During Coronavirus - Eater NY

"This long-running Lebanese and Egyptian café has a beguiling display of Middle Eastern pastries and a convenient location right on St. Marks Place. Lamb shawarma or falafel sandwiches are the move here, but for a much larger feed that can almost satisfy two, try the vegetarian platter shown here. Delivery: grubhub.com, seamless.com, postmates.com, delivery.com" - Robert Sietsema

East Village’s 10 Best Cheap Eats - Eater NY

"Classic Middle Eastern food — some of the best of it vegetarian — is the forte of Rakka Cafe, which has been on St. Marks for more than three decades. A vegetarian combo might include freshly fried falafel, babaganoush, tabouli, and labneh served with a stack of warm pitas. Meat sandwiches such as lamb shawarma are also bargain priced, and there’s outdoor seating in warm weather." - Robert Sietsema

Very fresh and delicious! Both the gyro sandwich and fixing were great but the real winner was the variety of sides! The babagahush was incredible. The beans, couscous, and baba all came with salad and two pitas too! That entire order w the sandwich was only $13! Amazing deal and the portions are great. We sprung for the baklava and holy cow we are thinking about ordering another one...ok yeah we just did. Heaven is ours.

This place has the BEST Afghani-style falafel and surprisingly delicious hummus, especially considering the unusually low prices and the bare-bones nature of the place. If you live or work in the area and could use some good, healthy food, try it out.

Always fresh falafel -- made only after you order -- and a variety of tasty, fresh salads to accompany them. Inexpensive and satisfying.
