Cafe Rasa Malaysia

We dropped by having not been before to grab a quick lunchtime bite. We were welcomed by the very friendly staff with warm smiles. The dining area is a bit on the casual side as you'd expect in an open fronted restaurant in a shopping mall. The food arrived quickly and was tasty. Would definitely go again. The only negative is you are required to pay upfront at point of ordering which includes the service charge. I appreciate they must have had issues with "dine and dash" and therefore will happily pay upfront but that should not include the service charge. That aside it was a very pleasant lunch.

I had the pleasure of trying the Malaysian laksa at this restaurant, and it was absolutely delightful. The flavours were perfectly balanced — rich, aromatic, and full of authentic Malaysian spices. The noodles were cooked just right, and the ingredients were fresh and vibrant. What made the experience even better was the staff; they were incredibly attentive, friendly, and made me feel genuinely welcome throughout my meal. Every detail, from the presentation to the taste, was spot-on. I highly recommend this place to anyone craving authentic Malaysian cuisine. I will definitely be coming back!

Went today for a quick lunch break and once again had a lovely experience 💕 We’ve been coming here for a few years and the quality never changes. Johan at the front of house was, as always, warm and welcoming. The food I ordered ( kuaw tiaw goreng chicken (no kale) by Chef Seema was delicious - full of authentic flavours. As a Filipino, I really appreciate flavours that remind me of home. My favourite (and highly recommend for people who wants to try new drinks) - the teh tarik with cincau - perfect as always 🧋 Highly recommend to anyone who visits ✨

Overall, it was okay. I ordered nasi lemak, it was okay. I have had better. It was cold and tasted like a day old. We were told to book a table for reservation but when we arrived, no table was reserved for us. So, what is the point of booking? No toilet or disabled facilities. Staff are not very friendly or welcoming. I expected more.

If you’re craving Malaysian this is a good stop. Authentic taste like a Malaysian hawker stall. However quality isn’t even across the dishes. Murtabak was just so-so. A bit flat. Otherwise, Nasi Ayam was good, soup was en pointe. Nasi Lemak too. Roti Canai was just ok. The Dahl curry was adequately tasty. Very popular stop. Line up to get in for dinner. Lots of families eat here. Drinks are waaaay to sweet despite asking for less sweet.

It is an ideal restaurant to go to eat after being several hours inside the mall, although it is a small restaurant, it is open and very cosy. Their staff is very friendly and attentive. Although I had never tried Malaysian food, I found its menu attractive and very colourful. After ordering I can say that the Malaysian food is delicious, I really liked its presentation, its flavours and aromas. I especially loved the fried chicken because it was delicious and crispy, I loved it. What would improve is the coconut shake, because it is too sweet and the palate becomes cloying, it seems to me that the bottom had toffee or caramel. Soups are also very tasty. Upon leaving the restaurant they were very kind and generous to give us some jack fruit chips typical of Malaysia.

This is the real deal! Excellent authentic Malaysian food with warm and thoughtful service. I passed by several times and almost all seats were filled, for good reason. Despite the density of tables, the staff ensure you have plenty of space and move things around for you. We shared roti with chicken curry (delicious and plenty of chicken pieces), king prawn laksa, beef rendang nasi lemak, karipap and chicken rice. All were delicious and the sambal served with the nasi lemak was perfect (I reckon the owner is well aware, as they also sell jars for you to take home!). The fried chicken skin was paper thin and crisp, served with flavourful chicken rice. My only gripe is I wished the nasi lemak was served with more beef rendang as the portion was disproportionate to the amount of rice. The price is higher than the fast food joints around the corner, but is a much better choice by far.

Absolute gem of a restaurant in the shopping centre. The food and the decor is top notch with a great courteous staff and the owner of the restaurant is a fantastic person to have a chat with. Also the business is in a positive limelight with the local community was a great piece of information. Staff were great to talk to and felt that I was in Malaysia for a while. The vibes were that good. Thank you!

This is an interesting one, but for as nice as the people are, the convenience, and the price you really can't go wrong... especially for the mall. I've had better Malaysian food, but I've certainly had worse and found myself eating here two days in a row just to try different dishes. This place is located in the Great Eastern Market, where most of the better quick places to grab a snack reside over the standard food hall offerings. It's also conveniently located next to a bar, Tap East, so if you order a beer from there and grab a hall table outside of this place they will happily bring your food to you giving you the best of both worlds... not bad for a mall. Normally I don't love Nasi Lemak, but the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang here was quite good in my opinion... now I don't know what this means normally not being a fan, but the flavour won me over this round. (I generally don't like stewed type meats.) I also really like the Mee Goreng Mamak... I asked for it extra spicy so they threw a good helping of fresh chillies in and it's probably my favourite dish here thus far. If you like happen to like fish soup the Pennang Assam Laksa was quite interesting and white large... I actually did like it, but for some reason expected more of a sour/like taste... this is definitely a fish soup (as advertised), so once my expectations were adjusted I quite liked it. Sadly I didn't love one of my favourite staples, the Nasi Goreng Kampung, but this is honestly probably down to where I used to normally get it (at Evil Eye in York)... I simply haven't had it anywhere that compares to there, but push come to shove if I had a rice craving I would still order it from here, it certainly wasn't bad despite preferring the Mee Goreng Mamak. I haven't tried the desserts yet, but look forward to it... I do wish they had more variety in the starters however, but maybe that's just me. I've only been a few times, but the people were really friendly on each visit so a special mark for that... again, it's a mall, so I'm more used to seeing the "next" mentality when it comes with dealing with people here... happy to see this place is an exception for now. If you happen to be in the mall wish some time to kill and are interested in an introduction to Malaysian food (or a quick Malaysian fix that won't break the bank) I would definitely give this place a try.

They were okay not my favourite malaysian restaurant in london. I definitely like rasa sayang more. But definitely recommended to try if you are craving malaysian food and around the town. Nothing much to say since they were just okay but i hope this helps! Cheers!

The Food: curry puffs £3.50 - spiral curry puffs are laborious and oh, so delicious. They carry a hint of spice with the sweet potato filling, not too oily, I think these are simply the best I have had! roti canai £5.50 - the texture is right but the curry was a little sweet. It needs a little punch. grilled lamb skewers £6.50, grilled chicken skewers £5.50 - I think the peanut sauce is quite mild and a little too sweet. nasi lemak with beef rendang £8.90 Ipoh curry noodles £7.90 Penang char kway teow £8.90 - the Malay version of stir-fried noodles. ondeh-ondeh £2.90 soya cincau £2.90 - does anyone remember the "Michael Jackson"?? I have probably revealed my age group by saying this! cendol Penang road £3.90 - generous drink/dessert for one. The coconut milk is quite thick so can be a little heavy. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

The Nasi Goreng Malaysia (Malaysian style fried rice) was excellent. The best fried rice I have ever tried. I asked to remove the egg and replace it with extra veggies and they did just that! So flavorful and while on the saltier side, it was balanced by a decent amount of mild spices. The photo I've provided here is all that's left of the dish! Also pictured is bottle water which is also available here. Wish I had take a before pic but did not intend on writing this review beforehand. It was just that good that I've decided to post this review. The staff were very kind and welcoming and the food was prepared and ready within minutes. If I was a local in the area, I would become a regular customer!

Ordered the roti canai, chicken satay, and curry puff. After paying I was informed that they had run out of the satay. Then a few minutes later told that the curry puffs were also sold out. The canai was good but undercooked and the curry was good but the chicken itself tasted prepared a few days prior. Obviously these aren't the hawker stalls of Malaysia but for the price I expected more.

Ugh. Take it from a Malaysian - this place totally sucked. We ordered chicken satay that did not come with any rice cubes ... and what was that sad looking gravy thing that it came with?? Was it supposed to pass for satay sauce? It looked so chunky and odd-colored that I thought that it was diced garlic or ginger but it was smashed peanuts instead. Tasted nothing like satay sauce and they totally overdid the lemongrass and made a sticky mess. Onions and cucumbers looked like they were days old. Tried the peanut turnover (Apam Balik/Malaysian pancake). It was barely warm, way too thin, had no fragrance, and basically had chopped peanuts inside that tasted like ... chopped peanuts. The Malaysian Chendol drink was nothing more than a gooey blob that was stuck together and didn't have enough Pandan flavoring. Finally, the Chin-Chau drink was tasteless - it wasn't even sweet and I'm no sweet tooth by far. It felt like I was drinking iced water If you're looking for authentic Malaysian food, look elsewhere. This place will do if you're in a fix and desperately want an un-passable imitation of the real deal.
