It has a working vibe - you'll see many people with their laptops, some working and some just browsing. 🧑‍💻 The staff is friendly and chatty, always ready to help. 😊 The coffee, in my opinion, isn't the absolute best in Montreal; maybe they could tweak the ingredient ratios a bit. I love this cafe. They make beautiful coffee. During our week in QC we came here daily. I loved the "God shot" beans and purchased them to take back to the USA for my home espresso machine. I haven't really found a blend I enjoyed more to date. The cafe itself is a very nice place to sit and watch the world go by. The staff were all very friendly. Will definitely come here again if in the city, and I will be ordering beans online soon

I recently discovered a good roastary that serves exceptional filtered coffee. The aroma alone was enough to draw me in, and the taste did not disappoint. Had several drinks here, the hot chocolate and chai are delicious and not too sweet which makes me happy. They also have substitute milks for people who are lactose it tolerant. Prices are a bit high though and space wise the few tables are always full and some church benches in the place (though kinda cool) take up a lot of space that could have housed more tables or at least a place to put your coffee

Omg, such a cute coffee shop! It nails that perfect blend of cozy and cool without trying too hard. The space has that minimal aesthetic and great for catching up with a friend, zoning out with a book or just working from there. Their coffe was next level - I got flat white and it was one of th best I have had aka smooth and perfectly balanced. The staff were friendly, and made small conversations. I stopped by for a quick snack. I had their lemon poppy muffin and honestly it was amazing!! It was very filling but really good. I already had a coffee so I'm looking forward to trying theirs next time I'm in the area. They do house their own coffee which they are famously known for. I loved the coffee shop vibe with dim lights. It wasn't too loud or overly packed. They have wifi available so its perfect to study and work. The welcoming from staff was warm and good. Often times, during a hectic day people are so eager to reach their end goal they forget to be present. So when a staff takes a second to acknowledge your presence and smile, I want to commend them for that. Simple actions like a smile is what captures customers attention and why they want to return to specific business.

Saint-Henri Micro-torréfacteur is one of the best known coffee roasteries from Quebec. You're likely to find their beans in your favorite coffee shop. So it's pretty safe to expect a wonderful cup of coffee out of their own establishment. There's quite a few St-Henri coffee shops in Montreal, but the one in the St-Henri neighbourhood is - surprise - the original. Roasting is done in the back of the shop, while the barista prepared cups of caffeinated goodness for patrons sitting toward the windows. It smells good in there, and the church pews and rickety wooden chairs make the whole place seem warm and homely - the perfect stop after a long walk on a cool spring afternoon. I got intrigued by their selection of rather unusual herbal teas (mostly from plants found in Quebec's northern wilderness), and went for the "thé boréal", a mix of what might be nettle, black currants and other plants. It was very good. We shared a banana bread that was moist and rich with brown sugar and chocolate. My boyfriend got the prettiest latte, with all these tiny bubbles in the delightfully rich crema. He loved it. We sat there blissfully for awhile, not needing to talk. We'll be back.

Went in around 18:00 on a Wednesday and got the barista all to myself. He talked me through a whole bean purchase, and then proceeded to pull me the best short espresso I've had in quite some time. I wish that everything in life could be so bright and clean. I wish that I could have another shot right now, but they don't open for another 2 hours.

The coffee here is fantastic, as are the snacks/pastries. There's not quite enough seating if you're looking to open up your laptop and use this as a work space. A few small chairs and a window bench. So if it's even slightly busy (which it often is!) it might not be the best "café office option. That said, I love the pews for days where all I need is a coffee and a book and a place to pass a few hours. Overall a great spot on NDO.

Starbuck's introduced decent coffee to the masses, but good coffee it is not. On a quest for coffee I stumbled upon Saint-Henri micro-torrefacteur near the Atwater market that craft their beans into incredible drinks. The bar seating lining the large bay windows are popular with the laptop toting crowd and several rows of old church pews make for interesting seating at the front of the cafe though your eyes are naturally drawn to the large roaster in back. The seating area gets a ton of natural light and there's free password protected wi-fi so it's nice... most of the time, avoid coming when they are roasting coffee, it's a noisy process. I tried a cinnamon roll beside the counter, options were limited and it looked like a letdown. Surprised I was. The inside was packed with a sweet cinnamon and sugar mixture and the flaky bread wasn't too dry nor was it soggy. Way exceeded my expectations. The coffee is what makes this place special. The classic American drip coffee is delightful to enjoy. It was fresh and well roasted. Very smooth with balanced flavors, no bitterness even near the end. Coffee done right. Glancing around a bit more I noticed a variety of coffee machines, well beyond drip, espresso and press. Look closely and you'll see Chemex makers, Aeropress machines and a few other bizarre contraptions. I get vibes that the crew at Saint-Henri's care about the coffee craft. The coffee is some of the nicest I've experienced in the city so I'll be returning often.

Lovely little spot tucked down a pretty alley off lower St Denis, right where you might hope an exceptional cafe would be. Run by the St Henri folks, these beans are local and the roast is strong, clear and delicious. There's not many who can manage to balance taking something like coffee extremely seriously with a long list of coffee menu items at the door, detailed questions asked by the skilled baristas, beverages delivered with cloth napkin, cool water, filtered coffee made in small batches for you with love; and love is the operative word. Not pretentious, not showy, just interested in care and craft and providing a wonderful experience. Enjoy your coffee, relax in the old wooden chairs rescued from local schools, rubbed smooth by generations. Maybe think about things like craft, learning and love. Or maybe just enjoy that sweet good coffee buzz. Your call.

One of the few coffee houses in Montreal that roast their coffee beans in house. However, it did not live up to the expectation that I had. We got a latte and a mocha. The latte was overwhelmed with milk and mocha's chocolate sweetest completed overwhelmed the espresso. There are also aeropress and other fresh brewed coffee of you are into filtered coffee like me. Will be back for coffee with less milk but certainly not latte again. Also, they have a very poor bakery selection.

I can't lie, the pews and church references are a little overwhelming, but are just sarcastic enough for me to be okay with it. My friend and I got God Shot and Holy Cow macchiatos to compare. The Holy Cow won hands down, but I was not disappointed with the God Shot, it wasn't the smooth creaminess of the Holy Cow. Their pastry case had these strata-like, veggie things. I was informed that they were scones. Didn't get a chance to have one (still stuffed from a giant brunch) but they just looked amazing.

In my previous review, I recommended Saint-Henri Micro-Torréfacteur in spite of the inconsistent coffee preparation I experienced regularly; someday the coffee would taste amazing, another day it would be a diluted mess. Well, it seems like the coffee angels heard me! Over the past 3 weeks, the several Latte I ordered have all been consistently well brewed, honoring their delicious coffee beans. Really neat neighborhood café that also roasts its own beans. But the clock is ticking. The "À Louer" sign is up and in less than 6 months, Café Saint-Henri will longer be, at least not in its current location. This is one of those places with a deep local vibe, you feel it as you step in on a Sunday afternoon packed with people. I find the combination of tables and church benches really hip. I can imagine an awesome group coffee date on those benches. The staff is among the most soft-spoken and unpretentious of 3rd wave coffee shops. Saint-Henri is my go-to roaster these days to get my weekly pound of beans for home. The single origin beans change from time to time and there are always a few to choose from, never more than a week old. Also free drink with bean purchase. There is a choice of two espressos: the default Godshot roast or a really mellow Holy Cow. I haven't really tried the food. You will be missed, Saint-Henri.

Came here on 1st July (Canada Day) and was the first customer in ... So I got the first coffee. It was spot on! A mild blend; a gentle introduction to the day. My latte was just right, as I say mild but full of flavour. It makes me wish I had tried the V60. Next time! I also had some kind if cinnamon croissant. It was so yummy. Delicious. Honestly, first place in Canada that I think the flat white is so so so legit!! I am still in the hunt for good flat white all over Vancouver and coming to Montreal, this has become a Must-go place for my daily dose of coffees. The pastries or croissant are nothing to shout about, but do get them if you are hungry. The benches 'taken' from the churches is a first for me! It is really creative and cool. p/s: Sumac next door serves super awesome Lebanese food too. Hence, as a visitor, you could really spend a good day around St. Henri area, having coffee in the morning, followed by Sumac for lunch ;) or vice versa and walk around the area after.

I used to live on rue bourget and the four years that i did and apparently many before this location sat empty. I drink a fair amount of espresso based coffee, the first coffee I ever drank was an espresso, so you can imagine I was excited at the prospect of being able to get one at the corner of my street. A group of us went in the day that they opened all supportive and 'welcome to the neighbourhood' like, all four us were shocked at the incredible attitude served with the coffee. Twice more did I have same style service. Never again. I am tired of feeling like I need to get down on my knees to pay hommage to whatever arrogant barista is giving the machine and themselves a handjob. Third wave please come crashing ashore and then roll back into the depths from whence you came, never to surface again.

8 hours in the car. New Jersey rush hour. Rain through the Adirondacks. Thankfully, there was this gem to be found just two blocks away from the Atwater room we had rented. Had an Americano, which was downright soul-soothing. They roast their own beans which gives the place an INTENSE (almost too much so, but ultimately lovely) smell. The wifi is crappy, it should be noted, but hey, good coffee demands you remove your head from your technology.

Hand pull, four grinders with beans of various origins, sweet espresso... Yes this is a place for the espresso hounds, coffee geeks, and pull purists. As someone else noted, your espresso comes with a glass of water (no plastic) and a cloth napkin. Tres elegant. My major gripe: they open at 10. If they are striving to be an Institution, they need better hours. But perhaps the locals going to work are not in their audience? In any case, there really isn't much good coffee in this part of town, so if you're an espresso hound finding yourself near Berri-UQAM, this is your place.

A warm and cozy little gem hidden on a small offshoot from the busy Rue St. Denis. Cafe St Henri has fantastic coffee, well sourced and excellently prepared. Amazing! They also serve you coffee with the a cloth napkin and water to cleanse your taste buds beforehand. The baristas were dressed up in fancy clothing (dress shirt with waistcoat), befitting of the wonderful "theatresque" setting in the shop. Friendly baristas, awesome service. Cafe St Henri is a must-visit for all coffee lovers in Montreal!

Ah, Cafe St. Henri is my little oasis near my work. We have a decent automatic espresso machine in the office, but nothing beats an expertly pulled espresso. Attention to detail is what makes this place shine...you know just by the way the barista measures and re-measures to get the perfect tamp. I usually get a single espresso, a chug of water to cleanse the palate and I'm on my way out. Quiet atmosphere, great place to read or have a friendly chat.

This is a cool little cafe just off busy St. Catherine street. They are open late and it is never too busy. Great coffee and you get free sparking water to cleanse the palate with every drink along with a cloth napkin. I love it! Didn't try the pastries as it was late in the day, I also found the chairs to be not the best for hanging out long term.

I had no intention of actually going to this place, in fact I had no idea it existed since it was my first time down this particular stretch. This trendy-looking little coffee shop presented itself and I decided to come in and look around. After a stop at the Atwater Market (where I was only able to find coffee beans with a "Use By" date of the previous month) I'm glad I found this place. I was able to pick up a great Ethiopian Sidamo for my loft, and the woman behind the counter proved to be knowledgeable and happy to help out. At the time of my visit it was a pretty full house, which of course makes perfect sense -- the coffee is delicious and it's a really cool environment. It's a bit out of the way for me, maybe a mile walk from the loft. But I need the exercise and they've definitely won my repeat business, so they'll be seeing me again very soon.

Third Wave coffee @ it's best What a great find. Nestled as the back of Hotel St Denis is this charming locale. So perfect in every way. Self and boy friend popped in one mid week morning in early November around 8:30am, I believe that it stays open until 10pm. Just one or two other customers. Our highly entertaining, engaging and thoroughly skillful Barista gave us a wonderful experience. Shame I didn't ask for his name. We placed our order for a cappuccino and a drip coffee as well and accepted his recommendation for the most scrumptious sweet potato muffin and delicious almond croissant and were asked to take a seat. Now knowing that artisanal coffee takes time we were really taken in with the ambiance and vibe of Cafe St Henri. The photos on Yelp will give you a perfect birds eye view of the restaurant's interiors. Soon enough our Barista served up our coffees and pastries, along with cute glasses filled with good water and linen napkins. Because he wasn't so busy just then we were able to engage in conversation with him relating to third wave coffee in Montreal versus our hometown of NYC. He explained the history behind the coffee used at the cafe and the roasting. And just like a previous Yelp Reviewer mentioned, coffee made in small batches is truly coffee at its best. We fell in love. You just couldn't help it. Everything that should be right about a coffee experience was there at Cafe St Henri. It's so worth putting on your schedule to stop in when in Montreal and if you're a local who hasn't yet been? Well, you are missing out.... Thanks guys and great job at service, food and coffee.

Location: Notre-Dame W. Street parking is available but metered. The closest subway is likely Lionel-Groulx [orange] then a 5-10 minute walk from there. The place: Small but you don't really feel crowded unless (I assume) the place is packed. They've got a few tables and three pews. Yes, you read that right - church pews. Good if you decide to take a nap on a hot and humid day summer ;-D. The goods: I was a little iffy about these guys because the feedback really varies - some people love it while others hate it. On my end, I was pleasantly surprised - the macchiato I ordered was amazing - almost as good as my new favourite place, Code Black (don't tell Vince at Olimpico!). Service: Meh. No warm and fuzzy feelings over here. The guy was ok but no smiles or small talk. Price point: $3.25 for the macchiato.

A quiet cafe just off St. Denis in the Latin Quarter on a quiet street called Rue Emery that you may not spot right away. Look for a teal round lit sign sticking out that says "cafe". The mocha was $4.75 which is comparable to most places in Montreal though the drink was a bit too smokey and dark and the chocolate was a bit gritty for my tastes. BUT, the barista I encountered here was super passionate about coffee and all things related. I was engaged in a very informative conversation with the barista; he told me a lot about the coffee scene here in Montreal and mentioned a few other recommendations. Loved his enthusiasm.

Having tried St-Henri Emery first, I expected no less from this St-Henri establishment. I visited the cafe on a sunny Saturday and it was quite full but I found just enough space to settle down. The coffee is damn fine. I had an Americano which was medium bodied and soft on the buds. I was anticipating pretentiousness since I hear they take their coffee seriously, but none at all! Lots of different people flowing through from students, chatting couples, you name it. I love the space, although tables are small and bar tops along windows are narrow, it is compensated by the large windows--which on a sunny day fills the cafe with tons of light which is a huge factor for me-- friendly service, well spaced out interior, nice decor, good music that doesn't try and compete with your thoughts or own music, and old pews for extra seating= excellent.

I am not a coffee drinker but I found this place after looking for a local roaster so I could buy some beans as a gift for a friend. The girl working there was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I'm really looking forward to hearing how the coffee is - they seem to take it very seriously. It's a cafe of decent size and interesting decor with wifi as well, so that certainly doesn't hurt things.

Was a nice resting spot for us travelers. Where we could charge our phones and take a break from the open air market. The barista was super friendly, took our pic and recommended beans to bring home with me because coffee is my absolute guilty pleasure.

When it comes to coffee, and especially good coffe, this is definitely a place you want to visit. From espresso to aero press, filter, mocha, chai latte, you name it, you'll find whatever you're in the mood for. Selection of muffins and pastries, the almond croissant was big and really good ! Service is nice and the place is cozy. With... Church benches to sit on. Why not. They brew their own coffee here too so a nice smell will welcome you. Possibility to buy any coffee they have on the menu to bring home. Enjoy !

Delish. Great coffee and great tea (coming from next door - Camelia Sinensis). Absolutely delicious baked goods. I don't know where they're from, but I want to eat them all. Warm, cozy and bright. Friendly staff, decent seating, close to many things. Certainly worth the trip off of Saint Denis's crowded sidewalks.

Perfect coffee on the outdoor patio. We had a latte, an iced latte and a decaf iced latte. All were delicious. The coffee is Italian espresso - high quality and intensely flavorful.

I finally found a coffee shop in town that does pourovers and it did not disappoint! So tasty I didn't need milk or sugar in my coffee and that happens so rarely. I must go back for a French press!

I think the latte here is the best I've ever had in town. Their coffee beans are roasted by themselves which is tasted great. Not very big but really quiet place to sit down and take a rest.

Exquisite coffee beans from Central and South America roasted on site. The coffee has an excellent taste and texture. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend.
