The flavors were awesome and a truly great price. Only a few tables but we were able to get in and eat right away. There was no AC and no airflow so i was very hot and sweaty by the end of the meal but still worth it for the flavors.

Google
Delicious Authentic Indonesian food restaurant in Philadelphia. Have tried their Nasi Uduk with Ayam Bakar, Soto Ayam and Mie Aceh, although is not 100% same like the original but it's taste almost same and quite delicious. Good price and good services also. Especially if come to Philadelphia, please drop by there to taste the Indonesian foods.

Google
11/13/2023 - Food doesn’t taste as good as few years ago, we are so surprised the price went up so much, for regular nasi campur cost $13(1pc beef rendang, tampei and kale veggie) and another same dish just add one egg and small piece tofu cost $17.50 ridiculous expensive, even if we go the proper restaurant doesn’t cost this much, we will NOT eat there again. No price in the menu… nasi kuning said $2.50 on the board but she charge you $3. What a bad experience we had at this restaurant.

Google
We ordered/bought a yellow rice tumpeng (10 people) for our co-worker birthday. It came with 5 choice dishes, we chose rendang, fried chicken, tempe orek, telur balado and urap. It came perfectly nice and beautiful, it was so delicious. Ibu Meutia was able to accomodate our request. Their price is so reasonable. I'll order tumpeng again from them.

Google
Delicious, authentic Indonesian restaurant in Philadelphia! Stopped by here for lunch. We ordered the Gule Kikil (cow feet curry) with rice and Nasi Kuning (yellow rice) which came with chicken, rendang, tempe, and egg balado). The food were very tasty and the price is pretty reasonable and typical with other restaurant. They also sell Es Blewah which was very refreshing. They have limited number of tables for dine-in

Yelp
Seulanga Cafe is a homey neighborhood spot for some of the best Indonesian food. When you walk in, there's a few tables and shelves with goods for sale. It is buffet style, so all of the dishes are laid out on a food line and you order at the counter. I highly recommend the Nasi Padang ($14) as it was SO much food and everything was very delicious. The kale was cooked in coconut milk which was aromatic, creamy, and slightly spicy, but still retains that slightly bitter edge. The egg is coated in sambal which is definitely spicy but pairs so well with the rice. The beef was tender and fall apart and the sauce was thick and so flavorful. The chicken was also fall apart soft. The highlight of the dish was getting to eat each component with the coconut rice. The coconut rice is some of the best I've ever had!! It's hard to explain what it tastes like but it's the perfect blend of coconut, salty, sweet, and very savory. I would say it's much more traditional tasting compared to Sky Cafe (another popular Indonesian spot). They take cash/venmo/zelle (I think)! It is incredibly worth it for the price. Definitely want to support a smaller, local business!

Yelp
They have many affordable Indonesian dishes. The place is small but there are tables you can eat inside.

Yelp
A bit hard to find, but I adore the food and owners. They are dedicated to their craft, and you taste it in every grain of yellow rice to every drop of oil from their meaty, juicy chicken. I walked here during a blizzard one year for my birthday and my god was it worth it. Their lunch special lets you choose a plate buffer style and it comes out to like $15-$17, so a bit pricey, but it's the best Indonesian food you'll get around Philly. They also do catering and were lovely, I ordered an entire tub of chicken, egg curry, yellow rice, and greens, and pretty much everything was gone by the end of the night.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here and the rice was better than the first time. The first time I dined in, my rice was overcook- i mean cmon... but I gave this est. another chance and today they did not disappoint. IMO, if you do a take out it can be more expensive than dining in. For example- if you do a take out on Telor Balado (the marinated egg) it will cost you $1 each. I mean good lord...nevertheless, if you have the money to splurge then by all means. This place is a neighborhood joint where if you dont feel like cooking and need a quick grab.

Yelp
Good, hearty comfort food. Choose from a number of dishes over your choice of rice. I'm not sure how they calculate the cost of your order but it seems to be related to what your dish is and how many different things you get.

Yelp
Wonderful little hole in the wall filled with delicious indonesian & Sumatran food. Best goat curry I've ever had. Rendang was on point. Lovely counter person who handed me the remote when I asked to change the channel. Very reasonable prices. Good portions. A+

Yelp
The place is cute but they charged me overprice for rice, kale, a piece of beef, an egg and a tofu while egg and tofu in the same dish for $12. This is my first time but I wouldn't recommend it. The other indonesia place on 11th st charged only $8 for the same meal.

Yelp
Authentic and tasty. I had nasi kuning (yellow rice) with several side dishes (rendang, sayir lodeh, sambal goreng telor). The sambal (spicy relish) had the right level of spiciness. From the outside it is hard to tell it is here but it is worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
This reminds me of Indonesia, this is Indonesia in Philadelphia. I know a lot of people say Hardena is better but I think it's been overrated now. The price is very reasonable and they have nasi kuning(yellow rice)! I could only think of one other restaurant that sells nasi kuning, which is D'jakarta Cafe. The rendang and grilled chicken here are soooo good!!! The rendang is spicier than Hardena but that's what makes it even better!!! This restaurant is always full of other Indonesians, and we keep it down low so it won't become overrated like Hardena. But I do have to agree that there are certain dishes I prefer to get from Hardena than here. But this is my favorite Indonesian restaurant!

Yelp
Tiny steam table place. Vegan options available. Got some tofu and greens over yellow rice with red sambal, all was very good. Friendly service, too.

Yelp
Was a bit skeptical when I 1st got here. Strange looking whole fried fish staring at me. Things in steam tables w/bones and skeletons sticking out. The woman was trying her best to help me, but there is a definite language barrier here. I decided to go vegetarian; as earlier reviews said meats were chewy. Tempeh, for protein, was a winner; rich & flavorful. Not oily. The braised greens (collards?) had a nice taste & texture & she put them in a baggie so they didn't spill into everything. So did the Japanese eggplant(she didn't know the name),which was sweet and cut into nice bias ovals and cooked al dente. Everything had a bit of heat and was served over excellent yellow rice topped w/fried shallots. The woman smiled when I asked for red sambal ( they also have green). It was amazing; easily the best sambal I've tasted. The heat was not overwhelming, and the flavor was intensely rich, savory, and a tad sweet.I also like that they put it in a side container; Platter cost me $6.50. Would like to add this to my Indonesian repertoire;wish I spoke the language.

Yelp
Food - four stars Ambience - two stars Service - three stars Value for money - five stars Overall - four stars This is a hole in the wall place with yummy Indonesian food. I had the yellow rice with tempeh, fried tofu, been sprouts, and other vegetables. On top of that I tried both the green and red 'sambal', spicy sauce. If you are in need of an affordable fix of good Indonesian food, this is your place. There's not much ambience so not great for a date night. They also have a wide range of other typical Indonesian food, including fried chicken, fried fish, curries, and so on. I have lived in Indonesia for 15 years, and this is a typical tasty meal.

Yelp
This place is definitely your authentic hole in the wall Indonesian food, despite one of the servers being a friendly Thai. The sauces are great, especially in their curries and hot sauces. I can't say that this is the best food I've had (meats were a but too dry), but the authenticity and home cooked feel is unbeatable. This restaurant seems to do well to serve the local population here. For some family style Indonesian food, you can't go wrong.

Yelp
Although I'm unfamiliar with the variations of regional foods in Indonesia, all I can say was that my order of beef rendang, tempeh along with the aromatic and vibrant hues of red and green sambal was super delicious. However, the fried tofu stuffed with fried vermicelli was rather bland; thought I think it might be tastier if it came with peanuts/dipping sauce. Our party of four all had nasi padang and each plate was between $6.5 - $8. The atmosphere within the restaurant was very laid back. Unlike most restaurants, here diners Order, Pay & then Eat. There were 2 TVs showing local channels, complimentary water from the dispenser machine(self serve) or soft drinks to be purchased. Total seating capacity in the restaurant was probably less than 20 guests. Overall, I'm very happy with my dining experience and will be back or if not for ordering take out. It reminded me as though we're dining in a friend's eat in kitchen. ps: The green sambal is not for the faint of heart.

Yelp
Good price, some foods taste same as original food in Indonesia. You guys should try Soto chicken or Soto Beef. Most food under $10.

Yelp
Dirt cheap deliciousness. If I remember correctly, the other Indo place, Hardena, has more choices but Seulanga seems to rotate their options so perhaps I'm wrong there. In any case, I like it a lot. It's small and clean, simple eating. There are signs that spell out what to do so no need to feel intimidated or out of place. Order, Pay, Eat. While the there's a language barrier, the beauty of this set up is you just point and say "That one, yes. More please" To date, I've had the curry chicken, beef rendang, whole egg thing, the kale, spicy fish, and whole fried fish. I wish there was a sauce for the fried fish but I just resolved that by combining it with one of the other wonderful sauces. Remember OPE. Order, Pay, Eat.

Yelp
On one of the most non-descript corners of South Philadelphia, this tiny Indonesian eatery cooks up hearty dishes on a daily basis. What sets Seulanga Cafe apart from other Indonesian spots in Philly is that this is a restaurant specializing in the foods from the island of Sumatra...a true Nasi Padang place. And that of course is what I ordered. The meal was decent enough without being anything special. One of the reasons for this is that the food here is served cafeteria style meaning that it is not cooked to order but sits in the warming pans for a while. Also there were no knives among the plastic utensils making the chicken especially difficult to eat. They do have a tray of sauces you can avail yourself of to give a bit more flavor to the food. But probably most noticeable when all is said and done - this Indonesian café was nowhere near as friendly as most of the other ones in Philadelphia. Still if you have a hankering for Nasi Padang, give it a try and see what you think.

Yelp
The best Indonesian food from Sumatra Island I ever eat here in Philadelphia PA USA The best taste I ever taste here in Philadelphia PA The Real taste for the real spice from Sumatra Island I suggest to eat curry lamb & rendang Sumatra ....!
google avatar

Lindy B.

Yelp
This is the real thing from Sumatra - some of it being from up north (the owner is from Aceh) and some of it being from farther south (the rendang is authentically Padang.) Good value and marvelous spices - though, if you do not like it hot spicy, this might not be completely the place for you. I lived in Indonesia for close to two decades and I can tell you, this is about as authentic as it comes.

Yelp
We stopped in last night. It is a small place, neat and clean. The menu is small also however very tasty. I had the chicken, kale in a curry sauce. And I tried tempeh for the first time and I liked that too. My husband a shredded beef that very spicy and good. Cant' wait to become more familiar with Indonesian cuisine. The staff was helpful in guiding us and making selections.

Yelp
At first, the neighborhood seemed a bit sketchy with young men hanging out at the corner. But, once inside, it was like I was in someone's home dining room, completely spotless, freshly painted avocado and papaya. With only two small tables for four, colored dark jade; it was cozy and intimate. I sat only 2 feet from the steam table; from which exotic specialties of cow feet curry, ox tail soup, and spicy fish in banana leaves wafted. Not to be adventurous for a first time, I decided on the dry beef curry platter at $5 served up on a paper plate. My first bite was explosively hot, so I sought refuge in a large mouthful of yellow rice. The mixed vegetable was likewise equally searing. Fortunately, there was a big bottle office style water cooler in the corner that I abruptly went to for a styrofoam cup of water. After the initial plunge, I grew to savour the more subtle spices.

Yelp
The best Indonesian food in Philly! I live in new york, and every time i go to philly, i always go there, great price with the awesome food! The last time i go there is before the closing time, they close at 8:30pm and we got there round 7:45pm. And its not just me,by my self but we are about party of 10. So we order right away. And we done right about 8:45 and they never said anything to us(like most of the restaurant do, saying "we're going to close soon"). Nope they didn't say anythings(unless "thank you" of course) . I recommend it to all my friends in new york. So Whenever you're in south philly, this place is definitely the authentic Indonesian food.

Yelp
Another Indonesian place in South Philly. Authentic, home-cooked food, like you're eating at someone's house. The flavors are great, and the food is pretty cheap. My main concern was that all the meats were a little tough. The chicken was a weird breast/wing cut, and the grilled variety was ridiculously tough and tendony with very little meat (also the bones were disconcertingly white - can chickens have bone marrow diseases?) - I guess they use free-range chickens or something, because these were not normal chickens. The stewed/curry chicken was better because the cooking softened it up a bit more. The beef rendang was also a little tough but overall it was pretty good and I've definitely had worse. The kale in curry sauce was good, as was a mixture of bamboo and other veggies. Sky cafe still reigns supreme, and I think Hardena has more options, but this place is still worth trying if you happen to be in the area and are not averse to intense mastication (and making a huge mess while gnawing at the meat).

Autumn S.

Yelp
Seleunga cafe is around the corner from my house.. and for that i am so thankful! It's inconspicuous and smaller than a corner store but they turn out some really amazing food. I love their tempeh, yellow rice and chicken satay. Though my friends rave about the rendang, i try not to overindulge in spicey foods too often so that limits my personal menu choices. I would definitely recommend this place for people who live wonderfully savory homecooked Indonesian food!

Yelp
the best ayam panggang i've ever eat so far in philadelphia..
