The Best African and West African Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Located in Peachtree Corners, West African restaurant Cafe Songhai offers a profusion of diaspora dishes primarily from Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal. Appetizers like beef suya (a seasoned street meat popular in Nigeria) and meat pies will feel more familiar to diners new to Nigerian food, but the best of the menu is found in traditional dishes like egusi (meat-based spinach stew), palm nut-banga soup (tomato-based meat soup), and red red (black-eyed pea and tomato stew). Opt for jollof rice with protein options like chicken, beef, fish, or tripe, and make sure to save room for puff-puff — a doughy fried dessert sprinkled with powdered sugar. Expect live jazz performances on Fridays." - Carolyn Desalu

Very kind and accommodating owner and friendly server. Food was very good, and so I ate more than I should have.

Google
10/10 for EVERYTHING. I found this restaurant on DoorDash and wanted a specific order. I called the restaurant and I was met with EXTREME kindness and grace. She helped me place my order efficiently and even left me a personal note on how to order next time if I have any issues. My soup was AMAZING and I plan to go and patronize this establishment in person. Can’t wait to explore their menu for more options. The hospitality was UNMATCHED.

I love that I didn't feel rushed like most restaurants. I am not familiar with the cuisine and the waitress was very helpful in explaining everything. I loved the jollof dish, the plantains, and dessert. I would pass on the beef suya fries, but not bad.

Google
We ordered via Uber Eats. Okra soup was spoiled. Plantains were stale and unappetizing. Fufu was average, but without the soup, my wife will not eat Fufu by itself. My wife is African and she is very disappointed, not only with the food but with the fact African food is already underrepresented, hence if you engage in the adventure of selling it, not only is it an opportunity but a duty to make it excellent because you potentially carry the burden of a standard. People who have otherwise no other experience with African food may be left forever tainted by this place.

I’ve visited this restaurant multiple times, and while the food has always been hit or miss, lately, it’s been more of a miss. The owner is quite rude, which creates an unwelcoming atmosphere, but the heavy-set lady with the Afro was polite. The real highlight of my visit, however, was the new bartender, Fox. Fox is a standout—her skills and work ethic far exceed the environment she’s in. I watched as she single-handedly managed the bar, served tables, handled to-go orders, ran food, acted as a host, and even cleaned the entire restaurant, including the bathrooms—all with grace. Despite her dedication, I witnessed the owner speaking to her in an unprofessional and nasty tone while she was juggling multiple responsibilities. Frankly, she deserves a raise, and I’m surprised they’ve managed to keep her. As for the food, I ordered the Ajtono, which was dry and lacked flavor, and the Egusi, which tasted spoiled. When Fox brought it back to address the issue, I overheard the manager dismissing her concerns, saying, “They have to wait,” rather than fixing the problem. Meanwhile, the person in charge seemed more focused on socializing with what appeared to be friends rather than actually running the restaurant. This place is clearly understaffed. On my last two visits, I walked in, didn’t see Fox behind the bar, and left because I had no interest in dealing with the rude environment. If things don’t change, I’d be surprised if this restaurant lasts another three months.

Google
The food was excellent, cooked to perfection!! I had the Jollof Rice with Fish and my friend had the Light Soup and Fufu, the portion was nice. The owner and staff were very friendly and courteous! My only complaint is that they should have another location on the South side! I WILL be returning!!!!

Located in Peach Tree Corners this West African Eatery is a gem! Sweet sounds of African music can be heard as you enter. A warm ambiance with touches of traditional West African decor. From assorted meats to vegan options everyone is bound to visit and enjoy. We tried a little bit of everything! Grilled Tilapia, Assorted Meat, Red Red,Parboil & Jasmine rice, beef suya and Ifeanyi’s favorite: Eugusi Soup & pounded yams. Many fear the spice of West African cuisine but at Cafe Songhai they cater to the average pallet. Nothing was overly spicy and everything was bursting with flavor. Great customer service, delicious food, and a fun atmosphere. If you haven't tasted west African food and have a craving for something different Cafe Songhai is the place to go to. Insider news: enjoy Kizomba dancing 1,2 & 4 Fridays.

Yelp
Ate here a week ago and still dreaming about the Suya fries! I actually learned of this spot from a non-related Yelp review that mentioned the restaurant - looked it up and it was 12 mins away from me! I've been looking for a new African restaurant to try close by, so it was really just my luck. We came for takeout on a slow Sunday - the wonderful waitress helped us order (didn't get her name). She even kindly brought our order to the car while we were waiting, very nice of her. We ordered Suya fries, Suya beef & jollof with goat and plantain. Truly blown away by the Suya fries as I've never had anything like it before - delicious. The flavors were THERE. Seasoning was on point and the mayo based sauce on top was so damn good. Beef was flavorful and juicy. Jollof and goat was spicy and also delicious. I can't speak for in-dining experience, however they do have a stage inside, so looks like they host various events throughout the week. I will absolutely be returning. So happy we found this tucked away gem!!!!!

Yelp
This place has been on my radar for ages, and I finally got to try it with a takeout order! Here's why it's a solid 4 stars: Website Wins: First off, major props for the website. It's gorgeous and the menu descriptions are super detailed. Huge plus for anyone new to the cuisine, like me! Top-Notch Takeout: The restaurant itself was clean and the staff was friendly. But the real star was the packaging! Everything in my order was perfectly portioned in the box and still warm when I got home. No soggy rice here - huge win! Flavor Explosion: Now, onto the food! Everything was bursting with flavor. Even the egg rolls were perfectly seasoned. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the tilapia had a fantastic crisp. Plus, the white basmati rice had a subtle savory note that I loved. Bonus! I saw on their website that they have music nights. Definitely gonna check that out next time - this place seems to have a great vibe! Overall, a delicious and well-executed takeout experience. Looking forward to dining in and enjoying the music next time!

Yelp
Delicious E African fare in a dim, intimate setting. Wish we could have gone on a day there was a live performance! I've gone here twice and their stews and swallows don't disappoint. This time around we tried their jollof rice which was super flavorful - not too wet like I've had it in the past either. They also have vegetarian/vegan-friendly options which was perfect for my vegan friends. My chicken was great but my friends' beef was on the tougher side. Service was normal and they played music videos on the TVs lol. I got a drink - The Akwaaba- which was pretty delicious and a good blend of their house whisky and lemonade. Overall Cafe Songhai never disappoints when I'm craving fufu and other swallows!

Yelp
The food was flavorful and the cocktails delicious! The service was friendly and efficient! Plus the steady background of AfroBeats created a lively atmosphere. We tried the jollof, gizzards, efo riro, egusi, tilapia, fried snapper, plantain, suya and more. Fantastic West African food experience for one and all. Go forth, dine in, and enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Cafe Songhai absolutely brought the flavors! We had the Egusi with roasted chicken served with Fufu, which was great. But also harms the Palm Nut Soup with stewed goat, one of the best we've had this year...really good! Great spot for west African food.

Yelp
First time visiting Cafe Songhai did not disappoint. Our host/server Sapphire was pleasant from the time we walked in. She was well-versed in the food and drink menu. I ordered Efo Riro (one of her recommendations) with Red Snapper & Rice. I'm talking packed with flavor... kudos to the chef! I plan on returning on a Friday night when they have live music. Lastly... Sea Salted Caramel Buttercake with ice cream.Sapphire thanks for everything! You will be missed.

Yelp
The service was exceptional and the food was ok. My only complaint is that when the waitress brought the check, she announced out loud everything we ordered and total of the check . I don't like that. I'm discrete and I realize they don't print tickets to save paper but as a visual person I have to look at my receipt. It's a horrible idea to announce what someone is spending.

Yelp
I ordered Jollof rice & goat. This is my first time eating African food and it was amazing!! The service was great as well.

Yelp
I am personally giving this establishment 5 Stars simply because the food is thoroughly well seasoned & delicious. If y.o.u have not AllReady tried the Puff Puffs, they are perfectly sweetened & the right amount of dough. The portions of food are well for multiple servings. All orders so far have been via Uber Eats & the food experience is worth it IMO. I appreciate y.o.u family! Remember the love y.o.u give is the love that y.o.u receive! #AUROROAPPROVES #HealedHealerHueHeals #HealedHealersHueHeal

Yelp
U P D A T E Still a solid 4! This time I got the same thing, whole red snapper and it was delicious. I also opted for the parboiled Jollof rice. The rice was perfectly cooked (a bit al dente) and was quite dark in color. It was my first time trying Ghanaian jollof at a restaurant. Much darker than Nigerian jollof with a flavor profile I could not place. It was just as familiar as it was foreign. Being Nigerian, naturally I prefer the Nigerian version so I don't think I'll be getting this again. Personally, I think this meal goes PERFECTLY with tostones - so if you like those (fried smashes green plantain) make some at home or pick some up somewhere else nearby (*cough cough Tortugas!) with your to-go order. That's what I do!
google avatar

Andje Y.

Yelp
I got the beef Suya fries, jollof Rice and egusi with pounded yam! Exceptional meal! It's is pricey so make sure you have your monies up to get everyone that you want!
google avatar

J H.

Yelp
I had egusi soup and my boyfriend had efo riro soup both were so delicious. I am going to get the one he had when I go back. The food was fresh tasting and easy on the pallet. If you are wanting to try west African food I highly recommend this place. I put I picture of the efo riro soup on this review. I ate the rest of my egusi for breakfast lol

Venise W.

Yelp
The whole fried fish was outstanding. It was crispy and juicy. The fries were hot and crispy. The bartender was very attentive and I would look to sit in her area again. She was fun.

Lakesha M.

Yelp
My husband and I saw this place on Google looking for African cuisine. Keren displayed great customer service. She was very friendly and attentive. We ordered Gizzards for an appetizer and Beef Suya and Jollof rice for our main dish. The food was delicious, and the meat was tender. There is an 18% gratuity charge, but it tells you on the menu. Our meal was a total of $71. A little too much if you ask me, but it's all good. They have an Instagram page and some nights they have Jazz night with live musicians. Thanks to Keren for that information. Overall the service and food was good. The only thing I didn't like was the 18% gratuity, but I overlooked that due to the great service Keren gave. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I came here and ordered their egusi soup w fufu and jollof rice. But it made my daughter throw up. And it made me want to throw up too after two bites. I returned the food and they said there is nothing wrong with it. They were very nice people but kept the food and didn't offer anything else. The egusi soup smelled so bad and old. The rice was very hard. I've never returned a food in my life except once twenty years ago when I immediately got food poisoning from a dish at Applebees. I even left a tip on this to go order but all of it was thrown away. A waste of $30. Okay I am going to edit this review. Apparently they gave me a complete refund when I left. But they never told me this until I received a phone call the next day. I am glad they refunded the money even though I did not ask for a refund. The people are very nice and the food looks good but it's just not a match for me. I raised their review to 3 stars for good service. But honestly I STILL feel sick today (the next morning).

Yelp
My besties dad (Nigerian) had his 70th birthday party at this spot! I arrived on a Saturday evening around 5:00 pm, for a 4:30pm surprise party- don't judge me! I am typically prompt, but had to stop and get a gift! When you walk through the entrance the hostess stand is immediately to your right. There were two young ladies standing there, and appeared a little confused. To help them out, I just pointed t the area where the party was located and said I am here for the event......first impression- ok??! After being in the resturant for about 15-20 min a wait staff finally appeared in the section we were seated. A few people placed orders. There was never really a Formal introduction of the wait staff, or an indication that it was time to place orders. As such, several people did not place their orders until after another 15-20 min had passed. Now this is the kicker, the food that was ordered during the second set of orders came out first!!! HOOOWWWW is that possible? Admittedly I am unfamiliar with African cuisine. I asked my bestie how to pronounce the name of a few Dishes and she had no clue. We decided to ask her dad, he too had never heard of the dishes.however, my bestie suggested the jollof rice with chicken. This is a spiced rice, served with plantains and a tomato based chicken. Collectively this dish was a win. The rice is a bit spicy, but when you eat it with the plantains it has a calming effect. My bestie shared with me that fufu is a popular African dish. Several of the patron of the party did indulge in this. It was a delight to witness the tradition of eating with your hands. Apparently two bowls of water are placed in front of you for washing your hands before and after eating. If I am in the area again it's highly likely that I will order some jollof to go. My rating is a result of the service, or lack there of. I say it time and time again, having a good product is not enough!
google avatar

Candace D.

Yelp
They're currently curbside or delivery only. Ordered today via Grubhub and they were prompt and efficient. I got the jollof and fish. The fish portion was a little small, but they were generous with the jollof plantain. I'll be back!

Yelp
Horrible!! This is the second time I've come and gotten old tasting food! The first time I let it go but this time I called and asked to speak to the manager and couldn't get a hold of them! EVEN though I heard them talking to the lady who took my call in the background! Highly disappointing! I've spent a ton of money eating here and recommend several people here but not anymore! This place is already ridiculously high but when my dad is in Ghana and I'm craving some home cooked meals I take the 40 minute drive here because it WAS once worth it! My peanut butter soup was a deep dark brown and not that silky Carmel color I'm accustomed to that leaves an aroma of good eats! It smelled old! It instantaneously made me sick after a few bites! Most of my lamb was hard as rock and clearly old and overcooked! The lamb also had a TON of bones also! The only star is the bean stew which was great but is also is the cheapest (go figure)!! I'm so disappointed! And to not even have the courtesy of the managers concern when I complain or a give me a call back (yes I left my number) is more than enough sign needed to search elsewhere!! Good luck patrons and you've been warned!

Yelp
The food was on point. Jasmine our server was very attentive and very detailed. She was amazing and made sure our experience was memorable.

Yelp
i just left like 3 min ago ... this suya will have back every day !! lol its also clean inside and the waitress was nice

Yelp
Came in around 8pm so it wasn't as busy, was seated in no time. Me and my wife chose a good night to come because they had a live band playing Afro-Jazz and they sounded amazing! We browsed the menu and ended up deciding to share some Jollof Rice with Fish, sweet plantains, and salad and it was pretty decent ! The rice was Super flavorful and the fish had a slight crunch to it, which took it over the top. Only downside to the dish is that the portion size for the fish and salad was smaller then I expected it to be. But with all that aside, I would definitely recommend checking out this spot on your own.

Yelp
Curry goat with rice and peas and plantains. Peanut soup (with 2 balls of fufu). Recommended from a friend afar. It looked so delicious. I had to search locally to find a restaurant that had this delectable dish. I was not disappointed. Absolutely wonderful. Excuse the background. I was ready to dive in after that 1 hour drive back.

Leonel M.

Yelp
I recently ate at Café Songhai and left feeling really lethargic. Even though there was only one other table, it took a very long time to obtain our meal and beverages. The lemonade was very sweet. Our meals were also cold and lacked flavor. Overall, not a good experience.
google avatar

Lori B.

Yelp
My first time trying peanut butter soup it was delicious. I'm definitely ordering from here again. I was concerned that the sauce would be fishy but it wasn't. I'm not a bit fan of fish stock and was nervous. This is a must try the right amount of kick and the flavor is insane.

Lashonda A.

Yelp
Not bad. Wasn't memorable. Hostesses was very welcoming though. My food was hot and ready on time.
google avatar

Yelp
I really liked this restaurant and I have been only once and highly recommend. It's clean, food came out fast. It wasn't crowded the day I went. If you are looking for some good west African food which includes Ghanaian dishes here is the place to come. I had rice balls with peanut soup and some kelewele. They were kind enough to leave out certain things I asked them to. I judge restaurants highly based on their willingness to accommodate customers. That's why they get 5 stars from me. I believe they are closed on Mondays.
google avatar

Beverly G.

Yelp
My first experience and it definitely will not be my last. It was too funny, everything I said I wanted to try, the waitress talked me out of it! Ummm, she instead was promoting the joloff rice that everyone raved about in other reviews. I on the other hand wanted to live life on the wild side! I opted for the Nigerian spicy goat soup! Upon waitress insistence served with white rice! I was going to try the pound yam, but again, she was telling me, not a good idea. The soup, was absolutely delicious! Spicy, but not so much so that you can't taste the flavors! The goat meat could have been a tad bit softer, and I could tell that it was not cooked with the soup itself! (Bummer) That aside it was still a delicious meal. Next time I'll be more adventurous and go for pound yam! Yes, there will be a next time, sooner rather than later!

Yelp
Delicious! I had a great experience with this place during my short getaway in the Atlanta area. Great customer service & they were offering car service secondary to COVID-19 precautions. I ordered online, drove to the restaurant, & was greeted by staff upon my arrival. They took my name and then brought out my food. Quick & easy!

Yelp
My friend recommended this place to me when I said I wanted to try African food for the first time. I was surprised that it was only couple minutes drive from my house in Norcross so I headed there the same day. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and seated right away. The inside is wonderfully decorated with traditional African music playing in the background. There's a bar area where you can order drinks and a small dance floor where I believe they host small parties on the weekend. I had to go with the Jollof rice as my first dish as I've heard many of my friends talk about the argument between Ghanians and Nigerians over who makes the better Jollof rice. I also went ahead and got Suya beef as an appetizer just out of curiosity. It was great at the moment decision as the beef had a more tougher texture but it made for great chewing. The Suya seasoning came on the side so you can add as much or as little as you want but as a spice lover myself I made sure to use as much as I could on each bite. It was that good! The Jollof rice came just as I finished the Suya beef and looked amazing. It came with a good portion of rice, plantain, some greens, and a choice of chicken, beef, or fish. I went with beef as my choice of meat and it came covered in a delectable sauce. Mixing the sauce with my rice made my meal taste 10x better. Coming here as the place to try my first authentic African meal was a great decision. The only reason why I wouldn't give it a perfect rating is that the service while not being terrible, also wasn't outstanding either. It didn't ruin my experience here but it was something that was noticeable and could definitely use some improvement.
google avatar

Rae J.

Yelp
Food was ridiculously overpriced for the quality. Plaintain dumplings were dry and had hard white spots in the middle. Our waitress also wasn't very personable. She didn't say anything when we walked in, we had to prompt her. When we got to the table she just put the menus down and stood there, didn't ask what we wanted, we had to initiate it. The bean stew was good, but the the jollof had whole pieces of rosemary which are inedible and my partner could barely chew the lamb, and the fried plantain was underripe. When it came time for the check, the waitress literally stood watching as I signed for the tip, which is obviously unprofessional. The place was nearly empty around dinner time on a Saturday and I can see why. Will not be returning
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
First time here and was very satisfied. I had the efo riro soup with pounded yam- delicious. It's made with a fish stick though so you have to be careful about bones even though I got mine without meat. My friend had puff puff (over priced. $4.50 for 3) and lamb chops. I think she liked mine better but she's not use to spicy so it opened up her sinuses pretty good. Lol.

Yelp
The Jollof rice and the grilled fish was tasty!!!! Try their food, you will not be disappointed!!!!!

Yelp
A west African restaurant with a fusion of Ghanian and Nigerian dishes. Located in a strip mall and plenty of parking. Service: we were greeted once we walked in, and the hostess walked us to a booth. The place is very clean and i was impressed as a couple of other African restaurants dont look maintained. The manager visited our booth several times to check on the meal and this what other African restaurants need to learn in order to keep people patronizing them Food: i ordered the grilled fish and fried yams while my friend ordered "debe" which is lamb and plantains with sautéed onions and tomatoes. Food was tasty and somewhat filling and the prices are very affordable Overall: I would visit again if I'm in the area and maybe this time try some Ghanaian dishes.

Girl With Two Forks And A Knife -.

Yelp
My family and I visited Cafe Songhai in November 2018. We ordered different dishes...family style. We were all new to this cuisine and the waitress was very helpful. Everyone was satisfied with the dishes. I don't know if we had the real thing or if some of the dishes were Americanized. It's hard to know or tell if you haven't been overseas and actually tasted the food. Everything tasted delicious to us. I would go back for certain. Also, I would caution the kitchen to be more careful. My mother found a clear piece of plastic in her food. It wasn't anything major but someone could make it a big deal.

Yelp
I decided to give this place one more try and ended up giving them two more tries, both of which were disappointing. I wonder why they keep changing their waitstaff and so far, it's only been one waiter who actually provided decent customer service. The rest don't seem to care. We tried their palm-nut soup and rice; the soup was awful. My okra soup had a piece of foil or something in it, so I lost my appetite. I called the waitress' attention and she told the owner. He came over and apologized and blamed the kitchen staff. The right thing to do would have been to comp the food, but he had the nerve to say he will discount my food next time. Discount?? There will be no next time! You lost a valuable customer. We also ordered the light soup which was pretty good. Their food is somewhat overpriced and if you dare ask for a side of pepper, know that you will get charged. It's like going to McDonald's and getting charged for ketchup. For the price of the food and service here, I'd rather go somewhere else where they'd provide better service. I think the owner's heart is in the right place but he's too worried about making money that he forgets to put his customers first. 3 chances is more than enough!

Yelp
Went here for dinner last night and left disappointed. I was quite excited to try this place because of the good reviews. But the food was just okay and service was basically non-existent. The place is located on Holcomb Bridge Rd in a small shopping area. The place is big and interiors were nice. We were immediately seated but didn't really have much of a friendly greeting. We were seated right next to the speakers and the music was playing too loud that it was hard for me and my friend to hear each other. As we were seated our server greeted us but just basically stared at us for a a few seconds without asking if we wanted something to drink. We told her we would like water then she asked if we wanted appetizers. It was just a bit of awkward silence while we waited for her to ask what we wanted to drink. I ordered jollof rice with fish and my friend ordered waakye with chicken. The fish was really good and was complemented by the rice well. However, the waakye was unimpressive. The rice was really dry and the chicken was not cooked all the way through. Serving was also very scarce for the waakye. It was just 2 tiny PCs of really bony chicken. Our server was quite inattentive. Not once did she ask if we needed more water or if there's anything we needed. They werent even busy at all. The only time she came up to us was when we finished eating. Although, I enjoyed the fish, i probably won't come back as the service was lackluster and food was really that impressive.

Yelp
I had a big craving for Suya and decided to try this place out. It satisfied my craving, however it wasn't the best. I placed a To-go order for just an order of Suya. The price was $10, but Suya is a speciality and is a bit expensive so I wasn't too hung up on it. My biggest complaint was how tough the meat was. It was extremely hard getting through, but I will say that the flavor (along with the pepper sauce and the onion) was there. I probably won't go back to them for Suya, but I might be willing to try something else.

Yelp
West African cuisine and very good! Some of the best I've had in the Atlanta area. We had a large party for a birthday and the service was great. People loved the Snapper it was scrumptious. And don't worry you get to choose between Nigerian and Ghanian Jollof Rice! Very yummy!

Jada B.

Yelp
FROM TRUE FOODIES!!!!!! The food here was a disaster. Drove 30 min sat outside to place our orders. Ordered fried snapper and received stewed. The picture of the food online did not reflect the food that we received. Told the manager and after a few min of going back and forth he agreed that the picture In fact did not reflect was we got. We got home and laid everything out and realized that the jollof, puff puff and the meats were not fresh. Definitely yesterday's left overs. Will never come back. I'm not sure how this restaurant got the reviews that it got. Waste of $70! Disappointed. If I could put zero stars I would I'm not exaggerating..

Yelp
Happened to find this very unique and flavorful gem while in town for work. So many great flavors and scents from the food. (the beer wasn't bad either) One thing though, a lot of the dishes here are meant to be eaten at a very spicy level, so prepare yourself.

Yelp
Great food and a nice atmosphere. I'm not too familiar with African cuisine but the server did a good job of recommending a dish that would suit my tastes. I had the jollof rice (rice in a spicy tomato sauce) with beef and the kelewele (spiced sweet plantains) and everything was delicious. Large portions too, so I ended up taking some home. The atmosphere was nice with traditional African art on the walls and African music playing. Would be nice for a date night or an afternoon out with friends. Looking forward to going back and trying more traditional African food!

Yelp
I was craving some solid west african food and my scouting brought me here. I ordered the ghanian styled jollof rice (jasmin rice), along with chicken, stew and lettuce. Firstly, the food was very good (once salt was added). It's almost like they made the food for folks with high blood pressure...like...zero salt. Secondly, service could be a bit better and faster. It took a good while to receive my food. Ultimately, it was an A-ok experience (7.5/10)...definitely could have been better,

Yelp
I've never had African food, but I'm adventurous and with Abigail's help navigated a very unique menu. I loved everything that I ate, but I think the fried plantains were the best. I really enjoyed the crispy outside and soft, warm inside. I'm sincerely impressed and would happily visit again whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
The food was really tasty. They explained the menu items and how to eat them to friend who hadn't had Nigerian food before. The owner came out to greet us and the wait staff was constantly checking in on us. Most importantly to me, when I asked for spicy food they delivered it. They didn't give me the "white spicy" level.

Yelp
So I have been craving fufu, so I decided to try this place out. Never again. I got some spinach and veggie dish that smelled so old when I opened it. The fufu taste like it was put in the microwave. My girlfriend got joloff rice and Suya and she said the rice taste like it was cooked 2 days ago. She said the Suya was dry and hard. I will never eat here again. I rather go to Ike's.

Yelp
Cafe Songhai had timely service and their waitresses are somewhat attentive. I went on a Saturday evening and I'm not sure if the cook was ready to close but the food wasn't that great. I had Nigerian Jollof and the rice tasted Luke warm and slightly stale. I also ordered wine and the glass had a lipstick print on it (I wasn't wearing any lipstick ). Typically I've heard good things about the restaurant, so I would try it again. Maybe I'll give an updated review soon.

Yelp
First time eating Nigerian food... And it was great! 1. Service is plenty and lovely. FYI the bowl they bring out is to wash your hands. 2. The chef came and talked to us, mainly because he was concerned we were ordering spicy dishes and fufu, which he said we might not like. 3. The chef came back when we had devoured everything including the yam fufu, and said he was amazed and delighted we ate everything so well. 4. Food-delicious. Kalawele (?) for an appetizer is awesome. Best plantains I've ever had. The fish soup is also good. This spot will treat you like family. And smile like your grandma did when you licked the plates clean.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this restaurant. The customer service was excellent. Kadiatou was our waitress. She was so nice and friendly. She knew the menu very well. I had suya as an appetizer. It was cooked well and not too tough. Then for the main course my brother had pounded yam and egusi, I ordered pounded yam and bitter leaf (my first time trying). My brothers good was good. I wasn't a fan of the bitter leaf so I exchanged it for peanut soup which I gave to my brother and I ate his egusi. He like the peanut soup and I tried some, it was good. I will definitely return!

Yelp
I like the food. But no one ever answers the phone, so I find it hard to place to go orders. When I am able to get someone on the phone, they put me on hold. I've been inside multiple times, and it's not that busy for them to miss phone orders. The food is a bit overpriced. And they will upcharge without telling you what you are asking for is an upcharge. The food is good, but the service is definitely lacking. I'm never greeted with a smile.
