There is much to say about Cafe Stella. What I will say is it seems to be Norfolk's bohemia. I mean this in the sense that the food is cheap, open 'til late, the table spaces are aplenty, the motif is eclectic, and the drinks range from good java to strong cocktails. One will notice the strange array of persons here. By all means, I do not mean this in a negative sense, but rather the clientele is not entirely uninteresting. College students and locals of Ghent flock here as well, for it is a fine place to get some work done or strike up a conversation. The music doesn't run too loud and generally isn't of a raucous genre. In fact, they occasionally host jazz nights and other types of shows. Service operates behind the counter predominantly, which is fine for someone looking to be left alone, including yours truly.
Overall, enjoy it. It's not fine dining, nor is it a shortfall in palatability; it's Cafe Stella: satiating the starving artist and fulfilling a void for those looking to save a buck.
