"Established near the Célestins Theatre, under the auspices of Jean-François Têtedoie (son of legendary Christian!), this house upholds the art of good food. The menu reads like a culinary bible of Lyon’s specialties: signature dishes like homemade terrine and gâteau lyonnais rub shoulders with rotisserie joints, to be shared and carved in front of you (Bresse poultry, rib of beef), without forgetting a lineup of bistro classics such as calf’s sweetbread vol-au-vent or Monts du Lyonnais snails with girolle mushrooms and cress. The wine cellar boasts over 1,500 references at temptingly reasonable prices." - Michelin Inspector

We visited Café Terroir on 12.12.2025 at 20:15 (2 people). We arrived about 15 minutes early and our table was already ready, which was a very nice start. The service throughout the evening was excellent — attentive, warm, and the wine recommendation matched our dishes perfectly. The starters and dessert were truly amazing and showed a high level of quality. For the main course, we chose the chicken, which was tasty and well prepared; however, at €90, we did question whether it fully justified the price. Overall, a very pleasant experience with great service and some outstanding dishes, though the value of the main course left us slightly unsure.

Parfait! The most gorgeous spot for lunch as a solo female in Lyon. Really welcoming & friendly staff. The amuse bouche was a lovely touch and absolutely delicious. The escargots were a delight! The parsley better was a dream. Served with lovely fresh bread and when my server noticed I didn’t have much bread left he quickly replenished it without me asking. It’s the little touches like that that make a place stand out. The wine, by the glass, was also excellent. This lunch, in total, cost only €17 which I think is excellent value nowadays, especially for that standard of food and service and in what seems to be a more upmarket restaurant. Highly recommend. Merci beaucoup!

A big fan of and regular at their sister restaurant near Anse, at the Saint Cyr winery, I had dinner there last night in downtown Lyon and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was good to see that both establishments’ menus, whilst sharing commonalities in some sections, have their own identity in the end. Case in point, are the two dishes shown in the pictures enclosed. Absolutely delicious riz de veau with sweetbreads, and le choux farci was spectacular too. It was also nice to recognise and meet again some familiar faces who from time to time help out at the Beaujolais outlet too Bravo

My experience in this location was extraordinary. Never I have been taken care like I was here. I even broke a glass of wine and the sommelier replaced my glass so I do not loose a drop of my precious drink. The food was delicious and innovated. The service was extraordinary. The whole team of service professionals were the best you ever will experience. They have a wine list with 2,000 wines the wine menu looks like an enciclopedia. They have wine from 40€ to 10,000 € Do not be afraid to visit this place there is a wine for your budget. You must give yourself the gift to experience this place and give yourself plenty time to fully enjoy the team of people that will take care of you like you are the only one there. The food is so good really delicious , however the overall experience is to the next level. My sister and I were there for three hours. The highlight of our visit was the sommelier, his attention to details was beyond reproach. He was just perfect, knowledgeable, friendly and delightful to engage with. This was our favourite restaurant in our 21 days visit to France. From Lyon, to Avignon, Marseille, and other 14 villages in the Luberon Hills and Côte du Rhone area. The prices are just and fair. I love this restaurant.

We reserved a table and were told we would have the fetes luminaries menu. Ok. The onion soup broth was thin and lacked mouth feel. The pork with green lentils was good. I would have like a green vegetable somewhere in the meal. The praline tart was delicious. Hence the 3 star for the food. The wait staff was lovely. Helped with wine selection. And the music was old school Motown

Google
We found this place as it was highly recommended by our hotel concierge. We had a fantastic experience. The wine list was extensive, and the sommeliers were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic, taking the time to share insights about the wines and their producers. The food was a little different and more innovative than your typical bistros. We were also impressed by the extensive range of chartreuse they offered. We didn’t try it this time as we were a bit tired, but it’s a great excuse to return. We’d definitely come back!

We had a beautiful dinner at this charming, very well run restaurant. The two amuse buche to start were the perfect introduction of what was to come. Mum chose the best meal, the sweetbread vol au vent. Insanely delicious. But all of our meals were lovely and the service and presentation were perfect. The wine list is so impressive.

Google
Amazing destination when in Lyon. This is a a restaurant with heart and offers great food, drinks, service and atmosphere. Our server took his time to go through the menu and the wine we were drinking. We also got a detailed story about the background and production of Chartreuse which was very interesting. Will be coming back!

Yelp
We stayed the night in Lyon, driving from Paris to St. Tropez. We were lucky enough to find Cafe Terroir on the Michelin Guide website and made the reservation before our trip. Our experience here was wonderful. The restaurant is small and the decor is rustic and on the darker side. We were sat at a wooden table in the center of the restaurant. It felt totally appropriate for the overall vibe of Lyon. On communication, my partner and the kiddo both speak French, but I do not. This confused a lot of folks on our trip, as they don't expect to see the blank look on my face when they speak to me in French, after having just interacted with a native speaker. While most of the staff spoke with my partner in French so that I didn't understand what was happening or being conveyed, one staff member spoke to me in English, which I really appreciated because it made me feel less left out of the dining experience. It felt like a true act of kindness. To be clear, I don't go to restaurants in a foreign country and ding them if they don't speak any English there. I just wanted to note that it meant something to me that one of the servers noted our situation and made the effort to make me feel comfortable. Overall, the service was excellent and attentive as you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Okay-onto the food. Oh the food! We started out with the soft boiled egg with cheese and bread and escargot. The escargot was very good. The kiddo ordered the soft boiled egg, said it was "so good," and sadly refused to share any of it with us. Needless to say, this is probably something you want to order. My partner and the kiddo shared the steak for two. Fortunately, they shared this one with me. This dish really was the star of the show. The steak had a depth of flavor I have not experienced before. Truly. There was something very special about this steak. I had the salmon dish, with a butter sauce and a stuffed squash blossom. This dish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, but the steak was so good it overshadowed what was otherwise an excellent dish. We ordered coffee after dinner and the ice cream. Oh wow. Order the ice cream for dessert. Do not miss this dish! The dish comes with dollops of a variety of ice cream flavors -the chef's choice. There was vanilla, and coffee flavor and a speculoos like flavor, among a number of others. They were so good-if I didn't have to avoid dairy, I would have ordered it myself. You cannot go wrong dining here when in Lyon. I'd absolutely come back for a visit.

Yelp
You need to make reservations! We came here for lunch and service is good. They have English speaking staff and everything is delicious! First time I think fish is cooked better in France than in China. Most of the time fish is either too dry or under cook, but this space is just prefect. Quiches is better than any bakery we went. Love this little cafe.

Yelp
Excellent food and service and a good wine selection. When in Lyon a must place to enjoy good food with friends.

Yelp
A hip and pretty place with a delicate cuisine in a casual setting. The staff is fun, their wine recommendations spot on.

Yelp
Incredible! From the service to the cuisine, an amazing experience. Great wine. Thank you Cafe Terroir for being patient with poor French. I will be back!

Yelp
We loved it so much we went back for a second meals during our one week stay in Lyon. Excellent fresh cuisine and a comprehensive wine list. They are super helpful and will steer you away from wines you might not like.

Yelp
Located at a quiet corner. Nice to sit outside. Great food. Pork cheek was very tasty and chocolate moose was fantastic. Local beer. Definitely worth coming back.

Yelp
A modern and trendy interior design with authentic local food. I cannot recommend enough this place, if you are visiting Lyon and want to taste regional specialties you got to stop here. I had backed Crozets (some kind of pasta) that was amazing and they recommended a pairing white wine that was a great match. I took a couple pictures before they closed so it looks empty, but you may wait to make a reservation as it seems to get popular.

Yelp
Thanks fellow Yelpers. This place doesn't disappoint! We had a steak and the escargot in the shell, which was delicious. The cooking style is a nice departure if you need a break from the traditional Bouchons. The ingredients were local and fresh. All in a tastefully decorated environment.

Yelp
A delightful find while out for an evening stroll. We both started with the escargot in the shell followed by the duck in mashed. A different but delightful take on shepherds pie. Both were excellent. We took the waiter's recommendation on the wine that was a great compliment to the meal. Cute out of the way stop in Lyon.
