Fresh Westmalle beer and a very nice atmosphere. To get the full experience it is worth trying the cheese kroketen and a bit of cheese which goes very well with the beer. The place is opposite the monastery of the Westmalle beer and has a wide parking and a nice terrace as well.

Google
Really great experience here. Fantastic beer, good food, coffee etc and I do enjoy the family friendly atmosphere. Served by Linda who was very accommodating to us and offered us English menu’s etc. even when we speak a little Dutch. Very grateful for the good service, food, and of course fantastic beer. Beautiful abbey and a beautiful area. Love from Scotland.

Google
Great place to taste westmalle dubbed on draft and enjoy also the other variety of westmalle beers. Good to start with a Fresh Westmalle Extra and then move to Dubbel …if you like then stronger taste you can move to half&half (dubbel and triple) and then triple. You can also purchase merchandise and beers. Limited food choice but good! Suggested! Ambient and personal very nice

Come here for the good Westmalle beer and good versions of typical Belgian dishes. Prices are on the high side but the portions are generous. Stoofvlees is a highlight as is the macaroni with cheese and ham.

Had a great time visiting this Trappist brewery! It’s the one closest to Antwerp and took a Uber for about 70 euros. The Trappist beer and cheese were so good! We got the flight of 3x 17cl and loved the triple. It’s right across the street from the monastery so was able to walk over there and walk around the outside.

For sure they have perfect beer and food is good as well. Service is good and fast. Nice atmosfeer. It is legendary trappist abbey Westmalle just opposite here.

Google
Huge restaurant in a great location. If you are a fan of Westamalle beer, this is a must visit. The beers are super fresh and they have a biergarten where you can enjoy the beer with a nice view. They also have a big playground if you are going with kids. Local products are also sold there. Highly recommend visiting it.

Yet another "this place was a lovely experience" review from a beer fan for a beer mecca. The beverages and the bread and cheese were of the highest quality. Service was quick and efficient. If you enjoy trappist ales and/or good food, scenery, etc, it's well worth a trip out from Antwerp!

Yelp
BOTTOM LINE: Once you've discovered the half-half (dubble-tripel), there's no going back! This is a tricky review bc it needs to be placed in the context of how the restaurant compares to other brewery restaurants (i.e., this is not a review of their beer, which I absolutely LOVE). The space has a fairly contemporary design, almost - I daresay - North American vibe because of how spacious and spread out the tables are, (and hence a bit sterile) including the great patio. Our group didn't have any issues with the service unlike some of how other Yelpers commented on. The food, though, seemed fairly standard. I'd been trying various breweries' take of their beer stew, and I thought this was just "okay" - the gravy seemed a bit on the lighter side in flavour (for that matter, my prize for the best beef stew goes to the Halve Maan brewery!). The beer, though, is probably why you came here, and you won't be disappointed, especially once you realize you can order the half-half dubbel/tripel! As the name implies, it's their two beers literally mixed together half and half. I was quite skeptical of this, but trust me when I say it's their Goldilocks! It adds a bit of sharpness to the dubbel, and tones down the tripel, and the outcome is an incredibly smooth and deeply flavoured beer. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to drink these beers again with mixing them! #beersnob

Yelp
Lovely cafe for the abbey Westmalle. Food is great, atmosphere is clean and bright and includes a large outdoor seating area to enjoy the sun in the nice weather. They've recently expanded the children's play area to be a very large sand filled play place. Highly recommend the witlof in de oven when in season and always enjoy the triple and double 'half half'

Yelp
Awesome flights of beer, and super delicious cheese and mustard! We bought a jar of the mustard because it was so delicious! They have an outdoors space and a large children's playground too! A bit of fun for everyone!

Yelp
Across from a Abbey, had the sampler which is half a light and half a dark Westmalle beer with nuts for around 5 euros. Delicious!!!! I preferred the dark, Dubbel, and was able to purchase 75 cl bottle to go. This cafe is very cute, comfortable and the back area is tables and area for kids to play. I loved the atmosphere of relaxed casual beer drinkers. Service was kind and helpful, I liked my chicken caesar salad too.

Yelp
It's not possible to visit the Westmalle Abbey but they do suggest on their website that you visit this place right across the street so that is what we did. And man was it crowded for a Sunday evening. The place is seat yourself and we were lucky enough to find a table in the back. Even though the place was really crowded, a waiter walked up right away to take our order and was promptly back with our drinks. I had a half/half which is a special from this place which is 1/2 Westmalle Double and 1/2 Westmalle Triple. It was ok but not great. What was great was the Westmalle cheese that we ordered to go with our beer. That dipped in the spicy mustard was really nice.

Yelp
This is a rating of the RESTAURANT only! Of course the beer and the abbey cheese is amazing. The service here is the absolute WORST we've had on our 3 week vacation. Couldn't get a second beer even! Plus they have pretty terrible food selections in the first place. ONLY go here for beer and cheese! THEN go down the road (south) and EAT at "Anno 1907" in Zoersel! It's amazing!

Yelp
Cafe directly across from the Abbey. Beer is about as fresh as you'll ever get it. Serve also Trappiste cheese (with fantastic mustard you can buy by the jar). Unfortunately the building is not very old-worldy as the old cafe burned down. New place is modern and ambience is frankly about the same as a truck stop.

Yelp
After visiting this morning I quickly ordered a drink. I used my phone to translate the menu and quickly found what I was looking for. Next the waitress ignored my for 30+ minutes, serving tables on each side of me, not making eye contact and not paying attention to the pardons/excuse me directed her way. I eventually didn't want food anymore and had to go up to the bar to pay for my drink. They lady behind the bar looked all confused as to why I came to the bar so I told her what happened. When the waitress walked by she just told them the total and rudely laughed when they asked what was going on. I find it completely unacceptable to have employees like this. As for the actual building it was very new and similar to In de Vrede especially in the layout and the parking. Not very fitting but very nice and lots of space. The beer was great, I had one every night I spent in Brussels and Antwerp. Unfortunately that Westmalle will be the last one I have
