Decided to try this cafe located near the opening of the Grand St. subway station. Decor is cute and its cuban inspired menu intrigued me but sadly, it was pretty average if not bad. Ladies were super nice and I want to support them, but it’s really hard to communicate your order if you don’t speak any Spanish/LatAm languages and the person servicing me had a hard time understanding the English names listed on the menu. I had to point my way through it and gesture numbers using my hands.
Beyond being hard to communicate, the food is haphazardly thrown together and microwaved with rubbery eggs in the BEC and a bunch of broken plantain chips that came from a bag as a side to the ham and swiss croissant sandwich. Sadly, a mess and for 2 sandwiches coming close to $20+ it was hugely disappointing.
I also got the iced matcha con leche and it was so thick and the texture was offputting. No taste of matcha and when asked why it was so thick, they told me the vanilla and cinnamon powder made it thick. They were nice enough to switch out the drink for a normal latte I ordered, but it came hot. Considering I ordered an iced drink and they didn’t ask, I didn’t think I had to explicitly state iced again, but that’s my bad I guess.
All in all, really wanted to like this place but with my order coming out to $30+ it was not a great experience.
