"This is the first restaurant of the Cafeína Group, boasting 30 years of operation. Set on a corner between Rua do Padrão and Rua Gondarém, it occupies an old villa that retains its façade of tiles, still in pristine condition. Upon entering, you’ll find a classy, refined setting, marked by dark woods and warm hues, along with a traditionally styled bar. The bistronomie concept that defines it is clearly influenced by French cuisine, while also revisiting Portuguese dishes with a contemporary twist. Although the menu is packed with appealing options, ranging from puff pastry lobster soup to duck rice, be sure to save room for the “Cafeína classic”, the Crepe queimado (Crepe flambée), prepared with surprising flavours and textures." - Michelin Inspector

In a pleasant space we enjoyed the restaurant's delicious dishes! Excellent service, rich wine list and all this at very reasonable prices.

Dining at this restaurant is far more than just having a meal – it is a complete experience of elegance, craftsmanship, and culinary artistry. From the very first moment, the sense of refinement is evident: the sophisticated ambiance, the beautifully set tables, and the impeccably trained staff who manage to strike the perfect balance between attentiveness, discretion, and expertise. The cuisine itself is a true celebration of flavors, textures, and aesthetics. Each dish is composed with remarkable precision, offering not only outstanding taste but also a visual feast. • Starters: The beef tartare with egg yolk was a masterpiece of simplicity and technique – perfectly seasoned, delicate in texture, and full of depth. The carpaccio, sliced paper-thin, melted effortlessly on the palate, enhanced by subtle accents of cheese and fresh garnish. The seafood and vegetable starters were equally impressive, showcasing both creativity and balance – each plate felt like a miniature work of art. • Main Course: The meat dish stood out as a highlight: perfectly cooked, tender, and accompanied by a rich, dark sauce that elevated it to another level. The vegetables were vibrant and full of flavor, while the layered potato side offered a wonderful interplay of crispiness and creaminess. This was classic French-inspired cuisine, reinterpreted with modern elegance. • Desserts: The grand finale was an array of sweets that reflected both tradition and innovation. From the refreshing sorbet to the beautifully composed tarts and the delicate crêpe served in a light vanilla sauce, every element was refined and thoughtful. Each dessert struck a careful balance of sweetness, texture, and lightness – a perfect ending to the menu. What truly sets this restaurant apart is not only the flawless execution but also the presentation of each dish: every plate arrived as a visual composition, proof that aesthetics and flavor can be seamlessly united. This was a dining experience that exceeded expectations on every level – a place where passion for food, respect for ingredients, and a deep understanding of hospitality come together in harmony.

Google
What a fantastic meal! The restaurant is celebrating their 30 years anniversary this year and some dishes are from the original menu. All dishes we tried were fantastic. Very reasonably priced restaurant. Their tiger prawn is just wow! Also loved the beef carpaccio. All dishes were good size. Overall excellent experience.

Google
Lovely, cozy, modern, fashionable restaurant in Matosinhos. Unbelievable delicious food, super fresh ingredients combined in the edge of perfection. It was a great surprise to find this place through the Michelin guide and it did not let us down. We loved the tuna tartar, and the sea bass was perfect. Mussel rice was so creamy that felt like silk. Amazing wine list as well…

Google
I highly recommend. The atmosphere is very cosy and intimate. Excellent service and friendly staff. The food was good, but felt the portions lacking in size for the price. Overall a very pleasant experience and evening.

Google
I had higher expectations considering it’s a Michelin restaurant and has a lot of positive reviews. Positives: great location, nice atmosphere and restaurant design Negatives: rushed service, average food flavors - more specifically the mains - very disappointing cooking and combination, and unfortunately they don’t make you feel very welcome. I think it’s worth a try but would keep expectations low. Also, please remove the recommended tip from the bill, no need to bring this tipping culture 😷

Yelp
Very chic restaurant located a few blocks from the beach in the Foz area of Porto. Everything from the food, wine, and service was top notch. We had the veal carpaccio and a fancy scallop dish as our apps. The carpaccio was excellent and just melted in your mouth. For mains we had beef wellington, bœuf bourguignon, & croacker that was over cilantro polenta. The fish was my meal and that polenta was creamy deliciousness. We had an amazing bottle of red wine recommended by our server and finished with the amazing pear tart for dessert. If you are looking for a an upscale dinner in Porto, Cafeína is it!!

Yelp
This place is amazing. I was very impressed in every way. For starters, I highly recommend fish & seafood soup. It was so delicious. The spices were perfect and the soup didn't taste or smell "fishy" at all. We also got the broken eggs. The foie gras in it was a little bit weak but the dish was great. I got the baked cod as my main course and it's a Portuguese dish that the waiter recommended. It tasted very good. The fish was super tender. My friend's steak was great too. The restaurant has really upscale decorations and the service was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
This place has made me question all Michelin ratings. No joke... after leaving cafeina I looked up what it means to be Michelin rated and I no longer trust the rating. The service was piss poor... literally amateur and the food made me sick. Literally squirting out of both ends at this very moment. Do not waste your time at this shit restaurant.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! If you have the opportunity go here!!! The all the spreads that come with the Couvert were amazing. The I wasn't expecting to like the pate but it was delicious and so was the goat cheese. I got the seafood soup as a starter and it was so yummy. It came with chunks of shrimp and fish in it and the base was a warm red/orange sauce. My boyfriend got the tuna tartare as a starter and he really enjoyed it. As my main meal I got the tiger prawn. I didn't know shrimp that big existed lol. The portion was more than enough and the pasta it came with had a very nice flavor. My boyfriend got the beef Wellington and he said "it was perfect, the meat was cooked nicely, the bread was perfect, and it was a really decent size". We got the chocolate cake as dessert and oh my... i was so full by this point but I couldn't not try it. It was so delicious and dense, it was ridiculous, with the ice cream.. chefs kiss! The workers were all super nice and helpful. The ambiance of the place to was beautiful and cozy. I really enjoyed my experience here and really recommend it.

Yelp
Our daughter highly suggested we schedule lunch at this wonderful restaurant. Cafeína is located on the outskirts of Porto close to the sea only a short taxi ride away from the center. We both ordered the fixe-price lunch which was not only divine but very affordable. My wife started with the soup course, a delicious pumpkin while I enjoyed the seared tuna appetizer, then came the salmon entry followed by a delicious dessert. We each enjoyed a glass of Duero wine. Service and friendliness were both outstanding. We came in as strangers and left as friends. Cafeína has a Michelin sign at the door entrance and is working very hard on achieving it's first star. It is that good,

Yelp
Loved this restaurant. Fantastic and friendly service. Scrumptious food. Great ambience. Great wine and mixed drinks. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path but well worth your walk or in my case, short, inexpensive taxi ride.

Yelp
Had one of best meals ever here...their stuffed squid in a light saffron sauce was simply great. Portuguese recipe style not Spanish or Italian. Made reservations well in advance and given nice intimate corner seat by window. Wines great as almost all in Portugal and priced at US grocery store prices. Zelda had tiger shrimp which she liked. I even got a vodka martini there which is difficult to get there. Good white port for end of meal. Yes perhaps a tourist restaurant as locals indicate but highly recommend for at least one night on visit. Great service and can converse in Portuguese or English with service. We always taxi or Uber in the cities but drive to various regions tolls and all.

Yelp
People. Don't be idiots. Come here. Eat the amazingly economical and delicious prix fixe lunch with wine in gorgeous surroundings. Get yourself a port by the glass. Or 5. Life is short and places of this caliber in this price range are in even shorter supply. The service is beyond friendly. Easy advice is rare, so take my word for it. COME. EAT. HERE. Praise my soul in your thoughts after. You are welcome.

Yelp
Wow! What a meal! Well worth the trip if you are in Porto. Grab an Uber and you can get there for less than €10. We had a great meal, probably the best we had during our week in Lisbon and Porto. The place was full of locals and it was jamming with a queue of people waiting when we left at 10pm, so head over to The Fork and make a reservation before you go. Highlights of the meal: tuna tartare, tagliatelle with giant prawns, sea bass carpaccio, almond and pear tart with port ice cream (yum). Prices were very fair. Great wine list starting at €10 a bottle. Hope to be back.
