"Kalú is the brainchild of Costa Rican-French chef Camille Ratton, who sought to create a sacred space for diners to encounter new tastes. Backed by a capable kitchen crew, Ratton turns out colorful, tasty dishes based on Mediterranean, Asian, and Creole flavors. Try the Spanish omelet with coffee-smoked salmon, or soba noodles and roasted vegetables topped with spinach-pistachio-encrusted fish. Kalú also operates two retail operations on-site: Kiosko, a gift store, and Cafeoteca, which roasts, packs, and sells coffee from Costa Rica’s every province. By Travesías"
They just remodeled and the place looks great. But beyond looks it’s the food that matters and let me tell you the food is incredible to match some of the best coffee in the world. Friendly staff and great service.

Cafeoteca is a beautiful, relaxed, lush space! the pie de maracuya tastes fantastic, and it was such a cool experience to speak with Maria Jose about her own family’s coffee!

You got to love this place. It’s a beautiful coffee shop with different rooms with different vibes. Great coffee variety. The food is also excellent. The meal portions are a bit small. The passion fruit pay is pretty good, and the apple tart was ok.
Amazing service. Our waiter explained to us the different coffee process methods.

Modern, clean and tasty!
We all odered from.the menu but I ordered breakfast. The pancakes were delicious. I haven't treated myself to pancakes in years so it was a nice treat.
Bathrooms were clean and tidy.
The staff spoke Spanglish, so if you are not fluent you will get by however they did not have English menus.

The coffee here was great! They had so many different ways to make coffee for you to choose from. They asked me what type of coffee I liked and chose the beans from it based off of that. Portions were decent. I came with my husband and got a mushroom quiche and it came with a side salad.
There was plenty of space. It would be a good place to study/work too.

My current obsession: the smell of the pastries is divine and the coffee is amazing, especially for someone not keen on the standard bitterness of American coffee.
I'm totally buying a coffee grinder!
This is one of the few places with a coffee "tasting": they will prepare 3 types using different methods. Great introduction to costa Rican coffee.
I've gone multiple times and it's become a destination during my time here.
