Cafetal Coffee

I should have done this much earlier, I’ve been coming here for years! They had me immediately with the charm of their aesthetic, the smooth, inviting vibe created by the music and the genuinely warm welcome by the staff. Whether you’re looking for a meet-up place, an interim workspace, or a home-away-from-home with both comfort and coffee, I haven’t found a better more well-rounded space. And with the BEST coffee I’ve had since moving here, I can’t imagine a reason to pass it by. If you’re looking for the quintessential coffee shop vibe and would enjoy authentic tastes of Columbia while you read, write, work, chat, chill or on the move, slide in and see for yourself why this is one of my favorite places to be!

This has to be one of my favorite places to work and chill in Tempe! The coffee is top notch, the service and family atmosphere is beautiful, and you can't beat the location! I love the updated bench seating throughout, but recovering some of the wall outlets would be nice for us laptop people! The iced banana coffee I had today was INCREDIBLE!!!

My husband and I stopped by on a whim right when they opened Sunday morning. Street parking was easy and close, very cozy seating areas with options for window bar top, table seating, and small loungy area with cute velvet chairs and coffee table. Coffee was incredible I got an iced lavanda latte and avocado arepa which was delicious.

I have been going to this place for a few weeks now, it’s right across the ASU campus and so much cheaper than coffee shops on campus. If you decide to dine in, they offer sustainable options like reusing cups and eco friendly straws, and this place has a good selection of food.

Great prices especially for the area, delicious food, and fast service! I enjoyed their spring seasonal menu—strawberry rose matcha! I would recommend the arepas con aguacates :) Also love the hand painted walls and the color palette of the interior.

Cafetal Coffee is a simple little spot, but honestly, everything they do, they do great. The pastries were fresh and warm when they brought them out, and they were absolutely delicious. The coffee I got was fantastic; well-made and hit the spot. On top of that, the servers were super nice and made the experience even better. It’s nothing overly flashy, but it’s one of those places you can tell takes pride in what they do. If you’re looking for good coffee, great pastries, and a chill vibe, Cafetal Coffee is a great choice.

Very cute place. But … had rude cashier with no patience or hosting skills. The barista did an excellent job on my coffee however. Asking for very high tips is also very annoying. I had only an average experience - after going to Europe and South America.

Great coffee spot! Parking is kind of limited unless you park in the parking garage right next door and pay or go to mass at the Newman Center All Saints Catholic Church and stop by for coffee afterwards. They had a lot of great food options! The coffee and lemonade were great, not too sweet and the lemonade was refreshing. The girls at the front were rockstars! It seemed like there were only two of them taking orders, making coffee and food. The place inside is nice and cute with a mix of tables and couches, with available outside seating as well. Definitely will stop in again after church on Sundays.

I loved the location and it's is in a super walkable area. This would be a cute place to study but we just dropped to check it out and I am glad we did! The coffee was great and the workers were kind. Also the small size cup is so cute if you've already had too much coffee for the day!

Great little coffee chop! Really cute vibes, loved the green velvet seats! The staff were really nice! They are hard workers! We went after church so they were busy, but that's okay because our drinks came really fast after we ordered. The iced coffee was delicious! It was not bitter at all and the banana iced coffee was not too sweet and had a great hint of banana. They have plenty of alternatives milk options here as well! We also tried the lemonade which was delicious! The lemonade was not too sweet and a refreshing drink for a hot day! They have some breakfast sandwich and pastry options here as well! We didn't try any food today but will have to next time. Would recommend checking this small business out!

The drinks are decent, but the price is a little higher than average. The food is definitely smaller than expected, especially for the price point.

This Colombian coffee place is super cute! It's decorated exactly like a coffee shop in Colombia. The coffee is delicious and the staff were very sweet and helpful.

This breakfast sandwich was AMAZING like I'm going to actually crave it, so glad I found this place. Their specialty coffees are also delicious- I tried both of them. It was cute inside and the staff were really nice and fast 10/10

Miss this place. Good people, good vibe, and good eatin! Unfortunately my work schedule changed and "Life" happened so had to cut Coffee out because the Blood Pressure doesn't like the caffeine in it for some odd reason. lol! But will be back again and maybe get something else to snack on and chop it up with the cool staff members! Thanks guys and Gals

Such a cute coffee shop with delicious drinks! I got the Dulce vida latte and a bagel with cream cheese. It was very delicious. The customer service was great!I'll be back.

Great bagel sandwiches and yummy speciality coffee drinks. Sandwiches take about 10 minutes so plan accordingly. I loved the Arroz con Leche latte.

I love Cafetal Coffee! From the cutest vibes to the delicious coffee, this cafe is the perfect place to charge up and get some work done. There are plenty of cute tables inside and out for small groups to sit and chat. This shop is adorable with pink everywhere and tropical plants as decor. I asked the cashier what she recommended for coffee, she went with the Dulce de leche latte, which was amazing! It was so sweet but still lets you enjoy the taste of the coffee. The spicy chorizo sandwich was also incredible. It was soooo filling and had the yummiest sauce on it.

A great option for a cafe in the busy area of Tempe. The matcha latte is organic and topped with a design. Quick with service with friendly staff. There were cozy spots for seating both indoor and outdoor and gentle music.

I love this place! I have been here several times over the past couple of months. I love the assorted baked goods. The almond croissant (when available) is one of the best I have had. My go to drink is the Dulce Vida iced. It's perfectly sweet and creamy. I love that I am always greeted with an authentic smile. The workers truly try to get to know those they are serving and make it a warm and welcoming environment.

I really wanted to like this place so bad but the coffee was a 3/10 it tasted like straight milk the coffee isn't strong and had a weird taste maybe it was the arroz con leche . Avacado turkey club was mid and the turkey had these red dots in them .The customer service was great the barista was so sweet but the food or drinks were mid

My first time visiting this place and I already can't wait to be back. The staff were friendly, my order was correct, and my coffee was ready within minutes! It's so homey and beautiful inside and the coffee is delicious. Also, the staff pronounced my name the way my family does and it filled me with such a happy feeling! I had a seasonal flavor called cocada latte with coconut and caramel and it was amazing! Can't wait to try more flavors and food next time!

This place has been remolded since I've last been here and it's sooooo cute! They have done an amazing job with the remodeling and aesthetics. Can't forget to mention they have a food menu and amazing drinks always! Parking is hard which is a bummer and it's in central Tempe so it can be very busy with students. There's a parking garage next door that is Fullerton one but you do need to pay.

Cafetal is one of the most delightful coffee shops in Tempe -- they have great coffee and breakfast, and a beautiful (and shaded in the mornings!) patio right by ASU! And the staff is always friendly and welcoming.

Come for the breakfast sandwiches, stay for the coffee. At 7:15 am I needed a hearty breakfast before my hike and I came here because the breakfast sandwiches were loved in other reviews. I built my own, adding the avocado spread and it did not disappoint. But the real star was my simple drip coffee. The family who owns this place also runs a coffee farm in Colombia. I've been roasting my own coffee for more than a decade so I'm particular about my coffee. Also, I tend to prefer African coffees. All that aside, wow, this was a delicious cup. Clean caramel flavors, drifting toward sweet toffee. There was not a lot of bitterness, it was closer to milk chocolate. My cup had just enough acidity to make it right and will please those who don't like a very acidic brew. It was an exceptional coffee that was well roasted and beat a lot of pour overs, even though it was drip brewed. I would not hesitate to come back the next time I'm in town.

UPDATE: I'm updating my review & adjusting the stars, not because my experience on the day I wrote about improved but because the response to my original review validated my comment. What do I mean? The owner took the time to read my review & comment on it. She asked me to follow up with her via email & I did. I shared my experience in greater detail & we realized that it was a 'one off'. Based on the exemplary customer service that I witnessed for others & the likelihood that my group was unexpected, it's likely that no other customers will miss out on their food orders. I wanted to like it... great ambiance, good prices, delicious coffee, nice staff. Why 2 stars? I was with a group, but arrived early to order my breakfast sandwich before the crowd. I ordered, paid & money was deducted from my card, but no sandwich. Never. Not ever a bite. No apology offered, but my card was refunded.

My coworker and I were in need of a good pick me up when we came across Cafetal. We've never tried it and heard people talk about it. We walked over and it had a good chunk of people there, including students, which is always a good sign! Once we walked in it was very cozy and modern. Lots of seats to choose from including tables you can work at. The staff were very nice and also quick getting orders out although it was pretty busy! They offer a good little selection of baked goods and food. I got a muffin which was delicious. I also got their iced dark chocolate cocoa specialty drink and this was great! It gave me a good pick me up for my day! I'm excited to come back and try their others coffees. If you're in the area, drop by!

Very small, cute, inviting coffee spot. The lattes and cold brews are so smooth and delicious. I can drink the cold brew black. The baristas are usually very nice and helpful to explain the various Colombia inspired items.

The cutest coffee shop on the Tempe campus! Lots of tables to sit at to do work or hang out with friends. I usually order a Chai Latte but ordered a dirty Chai Latte. It had a good kick to it but I prefer the regular Chai Latte more. The service was friendly as always!!

Adorable Colombian themed coffee shop on College. The baristas were super helpful with recommendations. The cafe con arroz with cinnamon and oat milk was recommended to me and I got it half-sweet. It was delicate and delicious. Highly recommend this pink paradise!!

I usually get a latte but I had the chai for the first time today and it was sooooo good! The baristas are always so welcoming and nice, and it's a great spot to just hang out.

Came here before school one day early in the morning for breakfast. The interior was cute and I was greeted by the workers who took my order. They were very friendly and we chatted about our favorite vintage stores! I got the arepa avocado, which was very affordable. It came out quickly and was very warm. The arepa had a nice chew to it and the masa had good flavor. The egg and avocado on top was good as well. I see myself going again next time I'm on campus early and need some quick breakfast!

Truly one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had, and I live on the east coast. Perfect egg (not the rubbery scrambled kind you often find), well toasted, and delicious sausage and cheese. A very cute vibe inside also. Didn't try the coffee but there was a broad spread of fun seasonal beverages. And staff was great!

Every time I try a different coffee shop in Tempe I think it's my fave and then the next place tops it. I LOVED Cafetal. This place is small and in an area with not great parking but luckily I was there during a time where it wasn't too busy. I ordered an arroz con leche iced latte with oat milk and extra cinnamon on top and it was delicious! Creamy and flavorful, even after the ice began to melt. Very sweet baristas too. They do not offer the free sticker for the Yelp check in anymore, but not a problem, I never use them anyways! Would definitely recommend this spot!

I got the BYOB bagel. The egg looks like a patty and is short of looking like it's from McDonald's. It is definitely a Mcegg or powdered egg for sure. Cheaping out on key part of the breakfast. Not only that, it came with 1 single piece of turkey. If that's not stingy i don't know what is. A single slice of turkey haha. Wait it gets better. If you don't add anything to your sandwich it's a plain cheese, 1 piece of turkey, and patty egg bagel. Every addition such as tomato or lettuce is extra $. Coffee was great however. I got the classic Latte Vanilla.

This place is so cute and a step up from what you might expect from a university coffee shop. The person who took our order was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us recommendations since it was our first visit. I love that if you're having your coffee there they will put it in real mugs or glasses (vs a disposable cup). I will be back!

The most charming coffee shop located in the heart of ASU. The coffee is amazing!! You owe it to yourself to order an Arroz con Leche, their unique specialty, you will be in for a treat. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, they obviously love their jobs. This is a must stop visit!

This will be my new coffee go-to whenever I'm looking for a coffee fix near ASU! Ambiance: A casual coffee shop playing Latin music, making it perfect for studying (if you like white noise) or catching up with a friend. There are several tables throughout the cafe for people to study. The seats by the window do get hot (no surprise for downtown Tempe, though). Drinks: Love their selection of homemade syrups! By the barista's recommendation, I got an arroz con leche latte with oat milk and extra cinnamon on top. It was a little pricey ($4.50 latte + .50 for syrup + 1 for oat milk + tip) in my opinion for a 12 oz latte. I think it's kind of worth it, though! It was a really tasty drink, and I've never had this flavor in a latte before, which was a huge plus! The drink came in a to-go cup and was a bit too hot by the time I had my first sip. I think I'd easily bump this up to a full 5/5 if the drink was served in a cup with some latte art and a little bit cooler (so I won't burn my tongue upon first sip). This place was a solid 4.5/5 for me. I'm excited to try the arepas here next time, maybe when I'm at ASU around breakfast time. Support this local business - you won't regret it!!

This coffee shop is cute and has good vibes! The lady who was making coffee (I assume she may be one of the owners) was very friendly, talking to me as I looked at the menu. It's a small, local business and their coffee comes from their family's farm in Colombia. Highly recommend!

Came to revisit AND I took better pictures! Delicious as always and the staff is so so helpful. Shout out to the person with the Bowie tattoo :D Anywho the food was so good (if you couldn't tell) and the chai was super rich. Very good tasting chai. Keep in mind the chai is on the sweeter side if you like it that way! 10/10 Would Recommend

They are a small place but the service is great! The cashier is friendly and very helpful. She was also very knowledgeable about the coffee and options. There were not a lot of customers when I went. A few people were sitting down inside, but it was fairly quiet. I like that since then I can hear the cashier and later be able to converse with my friends who go with me. The energy balls were cute and located at the front of the store. The store is located near the end of the building, most north. I thought that the service was quite fast and would go there again. I'm not sure if they are busier in the early mornings. I must have went after 9 am or at least after 8:30 am. The coffee was hot but not so hot it would hurt my hands through the cup. I was glad about that. Usually the Starbucks in the area is packed so this is a nice place to go out, at least it didn't seem too busy when I go.

Coffee break. I got the arroz con leche latte, and it was good! The seating area inside is a great space to take a deep breath and unwind for a little bit. Definitely a WAY better alternative to Starbucks. Similar in a lot of ways, just adding the small business perk. SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES!!I checked in on Yelp and got a sticker to put on my hydro flask and it's sooo cute. Thank you Cafetal!! I walked here, it's on the Arizona state campus so i expect parking might get tight.

I came in after a long night. I'm not much of a coffee person, but I love teas and lemonades/agua frescas/etc. I saw this business on Yelp and the picture of the matcha latte looked SO good. I had to come in and get it. By the time I came in, it was relatively busy (it was around 10:30am on a weekday). I ordered a small iced matcha latte after all. It was way hotter outside than I anticipated. I was super excited for the matcha, it looked so green and tasty on Yelp. But I wish I could say I loved the matcha drink. At first sip, I could barely taste anything. I had to get an extra sugar pack and mix it in just so it could be a little sweet. Even then, I can't taste the matcha. :( It got a little better after I vigorously swirled my drink around to mix the sugar. I think the matcha flavor improved because my swirling helped break down some of the undissolved matcha bits. A little disappointed in the iced matcha. I probably should've gotten the hot version. I feel like the iced version can be slightly problematic because matcha doesn't always dissolve, etc. With all that said, I need to come back another day to try other drinks.

Only offer one type of coffee and unfortunately was not one I cared for so not good. Because of this they did refund me and I ended up getting a foo foo drink to hide the taste. Price was higher than norm too.

DELICIOUS COFFEE, direct from their family's coffee farm in Colombia to Tempe. AZ. Their coffee is as good as their story behind it. I can see Anthony Bourdain and Chef Eric Ripert wanting to know more about their coffee and story. So should you. I had their winter menu special, La Forgata, and it was so smooth and delicious. Coffee break on our adventure and our friend recommended this spot. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street metered parking. It's near AZU so it can get busy Seating: Seating inside and outside about 10 ground and about 2-4 people per table. Feels: The spot is in the heart of the AZU town, walkable to a lot of things from the eatery to the campus. I like the cleanliness and the dedication to being local and its community. A pleasant family-friendly vibe. It's a good place to hang out or get some work done. FOOD: Iced Coffee - Con Leche (Recommend) Fresh and sweet. I also got a pump of hazelnut which I wouldn't recommend as it is already sweet as is. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly people and quick service TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. I dig the spot. Cafetal was such a delightful find on my work trip to Phoenix! Great chai latte and avocado toast = breakfast of champions. Everything was so cute, affordable and the staff was super friendly. Definitely worth a trip!

Drinks, are delicious. The space? Super cute and cozy which is impressive considering how busy it is! However, to the homegirl calling out names...the space isn't that big. You just don't need to yell like you do and so repeatedly. You're at like a 20 and you need to be at like a 9 at most lol

Out of so many coffee shops in Arizona I am astounded to have tried cafetals coffee quality. It is surprisingly strong and bold, definitely a hidden gem for sure. They have rotating seasonal flavors that are flavor evoking, the spring ones being my favorite. I hope they bring back the blackberry coffee along with the orange blossom, and Dulce de leche flavors. Those were remarkable, although I am not so impressed with the summer recommendations but the coffee is so astronomically good that paired with any flavors is delicious. Also their is one person who always remembers my boyfriends name and that's pretty impressive. My only critique is to improve the food quality.

Went by in the morning around 730am and ordered their avocado toast with bacon along with a roibus tea ($3 for 12oz). Took my order and then was told after I paid they were out of avocado. They offered chipotle mayo but declined since it's not appetizing so early in the morning. They added egg instead. However it was too dry and I subsequently asked for cream cheese instead. I was completely ignored and I had to return the cold sandwhich for my money back. Disappointed in the execution, otherwise a very tasty sandwhich. But you cant go wrong with avocado. Hate to not support a local business but will reconsider for Starbucks next time.

*UPDATED review The owner messaged me privately and apologized for their employees behavior on this matter. Really meant a lot from owner to customer. I really value good customer service so I'm updating the review! He said they went in and spoke to their employees today about what happened and how that's not okay. Again, the coffee was really good. The atmosphere is great. Plenty of seating, cool decor, music, etc. Awesome place to hangout or get some work done for a few hours. Original review: Let me say this first. This 2 star review isn't because the coffee is bad. I ordered a iced vanilla latte and it was fantastic. However, we over heard the baristas talking and saying "I'm so done with food, can we just say we're out of food?" The other barista replied, "yeah, I'm so down". They proceeded to shut down the kitchen.... It was 11am in the morning. NOT OKAY. I get these are probably just college students not wanting to deal with the kitchen. But that's just not good service. Really bummed me out. The barista that took our order also was a little standoffish. Coffee was great. The vibe in the shop is really great. Service was terrible.
