Hotel Figueroa Closes Five LA Restaurants, Lays Off 100 Unionizing Employees | Eater LA

"I learned that the Cafeteria at Downtown’s Hotel Figueroa will close this month after Noble 33 announced the shutdown in December, just six days after workers notified management of plans to unionize. Employees claim problems began when Noble 33 took over in 2021 — notably not backfilling positions and expecting staff to take on more duties without additional pay — and that about 100 food-and-beverage workers will be out of work. Unite Here Local 11 helped file an NLRB complaint in January 2024 alleging Noble 33 suppressed labor organizing; Noble 33 counters that its contract with the hotel contains a kill clause tied to unionization, a contention both Hotel Figueroa and Unite Here Local 11 deny." - Mona Holmes

Long Live New York Restaurant Cafeteria, Chelsea’s Eccentric 24/7 Time Capsule of the Early Aughts - Eater NY

"While the word 'basic' has become wildly overused, it's hard to come up with a more fitting word for the menu at Cafeteria. It has avocado toast; it has a kale salad; it has 'street tacos' sold at prices that certainly do not connote any taco found on any street anywhere. Yes, it's basic. Yes, with mac and cheese eggrolls, an early-aughts aesthetic, and 24/7 hours, it's a dinosaur of a restaurant. But it's also perfect. ... It feels like a singular place, somewhere to catch up with friends or hit after a wild night out. Maybe its appeal in 2019 has something to do with the resurfacing of early-aughts trends in general. Or maybe Cafeteria is like the scrunchie of restaurants — clunky but undeniably practical, versatile, and strangely, even this many years later, utterly appealing." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

Such a great spot with an extensive menu. Drinks are impressive with plenty of non alcoholic and juices. Food was great! I had the classic burger and it was not only big but cooked perfectly. Bartenders were fabulous. Would definitely come back.

Had a nice last minute dinner here with friends. The Strawberry Rhubarb Spritz is delicious but could be a lighter. Maybe a bit more soda water to get it slightly more refreshing. The frozen cosmo is perfect. We had a smattering of apps that were all excellent. Beet salad with grapefruit? Genius. I never would have put those things together. One of the best burratas I’ve ever had, it’s so creamy and again, the addition of strawberry is unexpected but excellent. Mac attack is a staple. Add the spicy pepper from the deviled eggs on top before you bite so you can get some good heat on it. My turkey burger was the tiniest bit dry but delicious. My friends raved about their meals, a burger with a fried egg and the Cobb salad. The lighting outside was a bit dim, anytime we tried to move the tiny lamp to make room, we couldn’t really see our food but easily fixable.

We met for dinner at Cafeteria in Chelsea. Pretty relaxed place, friendly staff, nothing too fancy—which I actually liked. We came especially to try their mac & cheese. It’s not really my kind of food, but honestly, it was really good! Creamy and rich—I totally get why people love it. The menu is very American, with some seafood and other options too. I asked if they had a whole wheat option for bread, but they didn’t. Only gluten-free or served in a lettuce leaf. Not a big deal, but it would be great to have that for people following an ADA-friendly diet. The food was tasty, not trying to be upscale or anything. A good spot for a casual night out goth friends 7/10

Our experience at Cafeteria was absolutely incredible! We had a group of 8 women visiting New York for a girls’ trip, and from the moment we arrived, the energy, hospitality, and service were top-tier. Nicholas was an absolute joy — so warm and attentive — and every staff member we interacted with made us feel genuinely cared for. We ordered a wide variety of food and drinks, and everything came out perfectly. Our table enjoyed espresso martinis, hot peppermint tea, sodas, waters, a fried chicken thigh sandwich with Gouda mac and cheese, eggs Benedict with spinach and prosciutto, a steak sandwich, fried mac and cheese egg rolls, a cheeseburger, fish and chips, and even had frozen cosmos. Every bite and sip was absolutely delicious — flavorful, fresh, and beautifully plated. The vibe was lively yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot to celebrate our day in the city. Cafeteria truly delivered an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for incredible food, stellar service, and a memorable time in New York!

Great experience here today! Our waiter Dylan knew the menu super well and was able to answer all our questions to help us pick what we were looking for. I also didn't love the first drink I ordered and he swapped it out for me without a problem. Everything was awesome and I can't wait to come back!

My first time visiting here and I see why my boyfriend was raving about this place!! Hands down a must try!!!!! Every single thing on this menu was amazing!!!! Christian was our server and he was amazing! I believe the bartender name was Chris or Brandon, either way he was the short, African American man with the beautiful smile & beautiful spirit. He catered to us because we only drink addictive-free, clean margaritas! He made some of the best margaritas we have had (and we are margarita connoisseurs 😉). We want those same two guys every time we visit!!! The crispy rock shrimp are seriously a must!!! The crispy enoki mushrooms were amazing!! The truffle oil Mac and cheese is always being ordered!!! We got the grilled salmon BLT (no bacon) and it was one of the best salmon sandwiches we have ever had!!!! The ginger salmon was cooked to perfection!

We recently dined at a charming spot and were impressed by both the presentation and variety of dishes. The evening started with a delightful selection of appetizers, including fresh mussels in a savory broth, served with hearty bread for dipping, and a vibrant beet and citrus salad topped with creamy goat cheese and microgreens. Each bite balanced freshness and flavor perfectly. For the entrées, the seafood pasta stood out with its rich, creamy sauce, plump shrimp, and perfectly steamed mussels — indulgent yet well-balanced. The seared salmon, served with broccolini, had a beautifully crisp skin and a flavorful glaze that paired wonderfully with the greens. The pepper-crusted tuna was another highlight, enhanced by avocado, crispy wontons, and pickled onions for a refreshing, layered taste. On the comfort-food side, the burger and fries were a satisfying classic. The fries, seasoned with herbs, were especially addictive, and the burger came with all the right accompaniments, including fresh lettuce, tomato, and a crunchy pickle. To complement the meal, we tried several cocktails, each beautifully garnished and well-crafted — the tall, refreshing fruit-forward drink was a particular favorite. Overall, the experience combined excellent food, stunning presentation, and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended for a memorable night out!
