14 of us had lunch together today. This restaurant is huge! We were all the way in the back in a private-type room for large parties. We were pretty far apart across from each other and had to scream to talk. It was cold in there and some people actually had brunch with their coats on. The lighting was very dim, so they had to bring out some lanterns for the table so we can see the menus. I ordered eggs benedict and it didn't have any Canadian bacon on it. They finally brought it out on a separate plate! The hollandaise sauce didn't have a lemony taste like it should. And there was an additional plain English muffin on the plate, as well as breakfast potatoes, and a salad of field greens. Don't know why I received an extra English muffin. Our servers, Alex and Gisele were terrific! They made the whole experience a lot better.

Enjoyed a lovely, cozy evening at Caffé Gelato with a tall glass of Chianti, delicious house-crafted butternut squash ravioli (with toasted hazelnuts! Yum!) and probably the best, perfectly seared Day-Boat Scallops available anywhere! Truly a wonderful night and great service too.

Google
Popped in for dinner and was able to get a table for two despite not having a reservation. The restaurant looks deceivingly small from the outside but has plenty of seating and appeared to also have a downstairs area with more seating. Plenty of gluten free options. We ordered the roasted beet salad as an appetizer and different seafood pastas with GF pasta. The waiter kindly brought gluten free bread upon request to eat with olive oil. We opted for the holiday cocktails, a Christmas Old Fashioned and Holiday Whisky Sour, which were delightful. There is an extensive wine menu which we didn’t partake in but saw a lot of options. We finished our meal with scoops of gelato, peppermint (monthly special) and pistachio. The food was wonderful as was the service. Highly recommend!!

Google
We usually come here for extra special occasions - it is not close to home. It is worth the trip North. Excellent food here - everything is homemade. Tonight I tried the short-rib ravioli and it was excellent plus plus. The little neck clams were clean and savory. Drinks were well crafted too. Kudos to the bartender. Our server did a good job of checking in on is without being invasive. The food came quick, but not rushed. They did a good job of pacing. Parking is on the street - pay to park except Sundays.

Google
Stayed close enough nearby for the Maryland 5 Star. Searched for fine dining and stumbled on this place. Great drinks, very good food, enjoyable ambiance, good service. Not disappointed at all. Will come by next year during 5 Star weekend.

Google
I’ve been there before and enjoyed. Tonight I had a 6:15 reservation for 6 & arrived a couple minutes early. Unfortunately, I was there until 7 and there was no table for 6. I understand it was a busy night, but when I make a reservation I expect to be sat promptly. I lingered for 45 minutes. Disappointing. I thought they’d be more prepared as a nice restaurant during Valentine’s Day weekend (and because I had a reservation!) but it is what it is and I don’t plan on going back. My suggestion to the owner is only make reservations you can 100% follow through on

Google
We have not been herein a while and we are so glad we came back. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive with a full bar. We had apps and drinks and it was all delicious. Definitely coming back. It’s a beautiful upscale restaurant.

Google
OMG! We went for the first time on 2/15 and got the Valentine's special tasting menu. Everything was fantastic! We enjoyed our experience so much. Emily was a spectacular server! Nothing was rushed. Timing was perfect. We are excited to visit again

Yelp
The food was really delicious. Our waiter, Gabe, was phenomenal! We did the pre fixe menu in addition to an extra pasta. We ordered wine flights that offered us generous pours!! Compliments to the chef and the whole staff!! We were a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
Food and service-wise, they are really 2 stars. The additional star is for them allowing us to sit with our little dog in their heated outdoor area. We had the Diablo pizza, the lemon ricotta crepe and the French onion soup. It really felt like they bought frozen versions of the dishes from Trader Joe's, then heated them up, then served them on nicer plates.

Yelp
Brunch coffee gelato was an incredible experience. Crème brûlée French toast was the best I ever put in my mouth. Somehow scrambled eggs and made it taste outstanding. It might be that you could taste the love that was made with as it is a locally owned and operated restaurant. The restaurant ambiance was sophisticated. Servers wore ties. But the vibe was anything but uptight. Everyone working there seemed excited to be there which gave the place a great energy. Our server was helpful in deciding what to order and where we could find affordable souvenirs from our trip to Delaware.

Yelp
All the food and drinks here were absolutely delicious. They felt like great quality ingredients and all items were consistently tasty! The la diavola pizza REALLY stood out, everyone on the table was raving about it. Seriously, all the meats were so well seasoned, it was perfectly thin and honestly overall just perfect. The Lump Crab and Shrimp Capellini was fantastic. It's definitely a must try at this spot. The crab was so tender, the shrimp so juicy and the sauce super flavorful! The wine sangria was also DELICIOUS. I will say the service was extremely slow so I almost gave the place 4 stars but the food was just too damn yummy. I do wish they brought the food out a little sooner. Also it took a long time before the server even came up to us to take our drinks order even though the restaurant was relatively empty.

Mylezia K.

Yelp
Apparently, they don't know what Yelp is and this information here is inaccurate. We came to dine in after a game at 8:36, but we were turned away because the kitchen closes at 8:30. Yelp says they close at 10, and Google says they close at 9:30.

Yelp
Delicious food! The staff were very accommodating and let us sit in the little green houses! The room was gorgeous and felt very cozy, paired with the amazing food is a 10/10 brunch!

Yelp
The dinner was fabulous and the wait staff very attentive during my retirement party. Very consistent in execution of the menu.

Yelp
The place is really beautiful on the inside and out. But that's about it. The staff wasn't really accommodating and didn't check up on us a lot even though we were one of the only groups in the restaurant it does seem like a place that gets busy during dinner and we went for brunch. The food was really bland not a lot of seasoning, they do have a coupon when you check in which is really nice I'm sure that they have better food during a different time but at the time that we went everything was pretty bland and not that great.

Yelp
We visited my kid in UD and came for dinner. Students were our severs! Great service, very polite, courteous and fast. Food was great! All of it! Very nice cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
We had a wonderful evening! The food was delicious, the waitstaff was excellent! The entertainment was amazing! I would highly recommend caffe Gelato for your next meal out !!

Yelp
The staff were lovely and helpful. The Beet and Goat Cheese salad was hands down the best thing I had! It was amazing. I also had the Lobster and Shrimp Gnocci. They accidentally left out the lobster nut that was quickly remediated. The gnocchi was a little packy for me but the flavor was good. The pesto sauce on the pasta was awesome. I also ordered Gelato to go!

Will N.

Yelp
Buratta appetizer was good, didn't know it was deep fried. I had the carbonara and it just wasn't a carbonara. It was really watery and the sauce wasn't stuck to the noodles at all. My wife ordered the salmon risotto and it was really just salmon with rice. Wouldn't order the carbonara but might come back to try another dish.

Yelp
I have been coming to caffe Gelato for a few years now and I am never disappointed. You get 5 star service, 5 star food at a 3 star price and the restaurant itself is well maintained and a very nice place to sit, relax and enjoy good food. My favorite item is the Crab Cake, plenty of crabmeat and not a lot of binders. The several items I have eaten just never disappoint and always tasty. On a side not, I have also attended events that Caffe Gelato catered and again always a 5 star experience. They host an International Night for the Ministry of Caring to help support the Ministries Dining rooms that feed thousands of meals each month. Again the food is the same quality as in the restaurant itself. I will always support a local restaurant that gives back to the community and treats its guest like family.

Brett C.

Yelp
Today was not Caffe Gelato's best--the 2 stars represent that it was a 1 star showing today but they get a 2nd star because I know they are better than today. It was Mother's Day, always busy but today was especially bad because of poor planning and over-booking. We waited 30 minutes on the sidewalk past our reservation time, and there was around 50 other customers with us at any one time. If it was Father's Day, I would have left and gone anywhere else but it was my wife's day and she wanted to stay. We finally got our table, but it was actually on the porch and my wife asked for an inside table. We decided not to comment because we would have to wait even longer. Next, we sat down to a smaller brunch menu than usual; they actually took dishes off the menu for today which was disappointing--would have loved some paella and my wife was looking for other dishes she had found on the brunch menu online. Regardless, we ordered drinks and our food. My wife got the mimosa flight which came out as 3 unmarked juices and a full bottle of champagne. We ordered a La Daviola pizza and a basil pesto chicken panini. My wife has had the panini before, loved it and so she ordered it again. My pizza was delivered to the table with a large portion of the pizza had no cheese, sauce or pepperoni (see picture). I saw other pizzas being delivered to other tables that didn't look as bad, so it's disappointing mine came out that way. My wife's panini was actually worse--it was cold (cold chicken, cold cheese) and had about a teaspoon of basil pesto. She asked for more pesto but the sandwich was disappointing, especially because she has a better version before. It was a subpar performance from a usually good restaurant. It is pricier than other local places and usually that's fine but spending $130 on a bad brunch just makes me not want to come back for any holiday or other day like graduation or homecoming because I don't believe they can manage the volume of business.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for restaurant week! The menu to try looked pretty awesome we first started off with the mussels and lobster bisque. The mussels were pretty good but salty. The lobster bisque was creamy and needed a bit more bits of lobster. Next came the scallop appetizer. It was good but was kind of plain. I didn't care for the puree that came with it. Our entrees came out fairly quick. I got the salmon with lobster risotto while my husband got the filet. The salmon was alittle overcooked and needed a tad more seasoning but was pretty good. The risotto was overcooked a bit. My husbands steak was cooked well but also needed a bit more seasoning. We didn't have a dessert item as our restaurant week option so we got a creme brulee and it came with two scoops of gelato. We got the vanilla and salted caramel gelato. Both were okay. Kind of disappointed with the creme brulee. It has good flavors but the sugar on top was barely caramelized. Overall meal was okay. I think the staff was pretty stressed since it was a packed night. I would come back when it's not restaurant week to try other dishes.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Newark! Their homemade pasta dishes and the scallops were divine, and we had excellent service from Elijah! They also have a great happy hour and drinks list.

Coqui N.

Yelp
I've been to this place at least 7 or 8 times; the first being my interview for a job here in Newark. The food is pricey, but worth every penny. They had a carrot ginger soup once that I am *still* thinking about a year later. Save room for the Gelato.

Yelp
Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Great food great service, outstanding wine list and eclectic well thought out whiskey list. Definitely recommend

Yelp
2.5 stars... Started out with the calamari and the flatbreads..the former was a bit overdone and rubbery, but the latter was wonderfully thick and flavorful...so the flatbread name was a bit misleading, though I could have eaten the whole thing! I ordered the chicken papperdale...plenty if veggies(though they were raw) and wonderful noodles.. chicken was a bit tough and overdone, and the sauce was thin and ran to the bottom of the dish.

Nikki E.

Yelp
It's been a while since my fist visit to this establishment, so my expectations were high after the excellent service we had about a year ago. The ambience is still intimate and elegant, but the food just wasn't the same. I ordered the lobster pasta dish, and while tasty it wasn't lick the bowl you can't miss a drop like the last time we came. My husband orders the lamb and it was very over cooked and gamey... the sides were better but not something to rave about.

Mary Ellen G.

Yelp
Went for Sunday Brunch and my Bacio crepes were delicious. I can't say the same about the gelato. It had a grainy texture. In a creaminess scale of 1-10, it was about a 3-4. I've had gelato in Italy, NYC, & Philly so I know what it should be like texture-wise. L'Aquila in Philly is spot on. I had higher hopes for Caffe Gelato. Maybe it was a bad batch.

Maxx R.

Yelp
Service was great! The inside is beautiful. The food.. mediocre. I ordered the raviolo app and it was completely different from what I ordered, which included bacon and peas and it was supposed to be a butternut squash filled raviolo vegetarian dish.. I ordered the tortellini and it was good.. after waiting 10 minutes for it to cool down to actually eat. The calamari app was not memorable at all either. My fiance got the pan seared scallops and said they were very good, but the risotto and big chunks of prosciutto in the risotto, was a weird texture. Maybe we just aren't used to the huge pieces? We shared a scoop of pistachio gelato and that was ok..seemed a little freezer burnt? The crystals in the gelato made it seem like it was old. All in all, it was a great date night but I wasn't impressed with the food or the prices. At all.

Yelp
We love coming in for happy hour, pleasant surroundings and friendly people add to the good wine and specials. We plan to come back!

Yelp
First timing going for brunch and it was very good! We got to sit in the one of the make shift huts outside and it was so fun and festive! The huts are heated so it was perfect for a chilly day. Our server was awesome and very attentive, especially considering we were completely separated from the rest of the guests. The brunch menu was cut in half due to COVID but still a lot of choices! The lobster and shrimp gnocchi was amazing if you're looking on the lunch side. We got two goat cheese omelets, the western omelette and the creme brûlée French toast. The French toast was SO good with the homemade strawberry creme but very sweet. We got one to split for the table.

R B.

Yelp
The food (filet mignon & halibut) was horrible. The filet was burnt and halibut had a hard crust and extremely over cooked. Before that the host was polite and seated us, after that we waited exactly 22 minutes before I had to ask for a server. This was November 1, 2024. The head chef was off and we could here people in kitchen having fun and speaking a foreign language. I truly believe our order was nor made in a timely manner. The server kept going in and out of the kitchen. After waiting another 32 minutes the food arrived. The manager came by, apologized and offered us a meager $25 gift card, she should have offered us a remake of our food. She saw had the food was madequate and stated " I going to talk to the cooks". I'm not going to use the gift card. The owner should offer us a new meal--no charge. Our bill would have been over $100 but when I mentioned and aasked if military discount was offered, she discounted our bill by $20 and we gave that to thr server. I really don't expect a follow up, however, I'm leaving my address: 58 Victoria Boulevard, Newark Delaware (RB & AB).

Yelp
Such a nice ambiance and good food. I've hosted two birthday parties here and the service was wonderful.

Yelp
We stopped in over the weekend to have dinner with our daughter who goes to UD. The restaurant looks really cute; however, it was not clean. Table was dirty, sticky & obviously not wiped down from previous guests. Wine glass had lip stain on it. The food & service was just okay. We won't be back.

Elsie J.

Yelp
it's easy to review Caffe Gelato- the food is always perfect, but when you combine the perfect wine with the perfect dinner it elevates your taste buds even further. butter broiled lobster tail with linguini in cream paired with Villa Calcinia Comitale wine, limoncello sorbet, filet mignon with food gras- 5 courses, 5 wonderful wines all delightfully offered by owner Ryan, Chef Jeovanny and Count Sebatisno! one can easily see why the restau was packed and filled with smiling guests from every part of the country. Ryan makes you feel at home his attention to detail is unwavering. I watched him roam the room checking on every guest and even entertaining a child or 2 making their parents relax while surrounded by a room full of adults nothing better. Caffe Gelato is home away from home but better

Yelp
The food here is always very good. The menu prices are a little high, but they have good daily specials and sometimes there are promos through Facebook. The service is usually good, but there are times I've thought it could be better. A few of my favorites here are the gelato cosmo, the lobster and shrimp gnocchi, and the wood fired goat cheese. A note during covid-19, they have a limited menu. We ordered their 3 course meal for 2 once, which was delicious. We also ordered brunch, which was good. However, it was misleading that they say on their website that regular menu items are available for home delivery, as they only had a small selection of brunch options available. It was unclear what was available from the online menu, and the sides weren't what we expected. The delivery also took much longer than the estimated window both times. However the food was delicious. We went to the restaurant last week, and it was also a very limited menu. I was disappointed, as I don't believe that menu was online anywhere and I was looking to order from the full menu, but the food we got was excellent.

Roxanne C.

Yelp
Today was not the best day. It was Mother's Day (I am one of the Mothers) and due to poor planning and over-booking we waited on the sidewalk 50 minutes past our reservation time along with approximately 50 other customers. I ordered the Basil Pesto Chicken Panini and was unable to find the basil pesto, not to mention the sandwich was cold. The Red Sangria was not what I had in the past. We had a table of 5 and after spending $180, not sure that I will ever come back for any other holiday or special occasion. Management can do better.

T S.

Yelp
We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside when we arrived. Considering that the entire dining room was a cloud of smoke, we chose to sit outside. They have a wood-fired oven but if the restaurant is going to be that smokey why bother? The service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and accommodating. The drinks are either very accurately measured or light. I am trying to figure out which one best describes their cocktails. The Caesar salad is described as follows on the menu: Classic Caesar Baby romaine, Parmesan cheese, cherry tomatoes, signature croutons, tossed with house-crafted Caesar. This is true except for the lettuce. They used very little romaine and added other types of lettuce instead. I know that I am being fastidious, but that detail matters to me. If you aren't going to serve what you describe, then don't describe it that way. Our main courses were fine. We all had a pasta dish. They weren't epic or phenomenal. They were fine. The one comment I will make is that I felt like we were being rushed. I was offered the check before they had even cleaned the table. I don't understand why as the restaurant was empty. We ordered dessert which was pretty good. Overall, this is one of the more expensive places to eat near campus. The atmosphere is nice, the food is mediocre, and again, the service was attentive and accommodating.

Yelp
Feel bad writing this one because the staff was so nice although we still had to stop anyone to take our order, ugh. Coming from NYC I thought how bad could an Italian restaurant be in Delaware? Unfortunately pretty it was not great. It was busy so May guess is people from other areas are simply excited for Italian food? The bread- have you ever had Wonder bread? Yup Calamari- tolerable with a really strange sauce. Mushrooms- no taste at all. Pizza- I have had better frozen. Completely tasteless and thick. Red wine- tasted cheap and old. Sorry, it really did. This may be good for people from outside of NY but New Yorkers may want to do themselves a favor and try another place. Again staff was super friendly. This may have been the most honest and tough review I have written so far.

Yelp
Great food and nice atmosphere. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews but I do agree that this venue it's a bit overpriced. We came from NYC for the UD family weekend and place was overwhelmingly busy which caused some delays to get our food - - - understandable. We had for appetizer a fried calamari which was disappointing by the size and the weird smoky taste marinara sauce. The main entrees were DELICIOUS! My son and I had the filet mignon cooked medium to perfection, my wife got the Potato gnocchi with a terrific sauce! My younger one got the pizza and devoured in minutes. Overall, we were very happy with our experience here. A shout out to our waitress Sophia; Very professional, personable and polite young lady that made our experience more enjoyable.

Yelp
everytime I order take out or delivery I arrive at the restaurant to find out they do not have the order... if McDonald's can handle take out and delivery why can't this "five star" restaurant get it right ?!? Pathetic

Jes B.

Yelp
I wholeheartedly recommend Caffee Gelato for an evening dessert. I've only ever gotten gelato (not food) and it's delicious with many flavors to choose from. It's nice to sit and eat outside or just walk down Main Street and eat. However, The dining menu looked too expensive for what is offered. I'd rather go into Wilmington and try one of Taverna's sister restaurants or a nice Bistro. Eclipse is a good choice too.

Casey M.

Yelp
Always delicious food at Cafe Gelato! Dinner is better in my opinion but the brunch was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Spectacular!! Was my first time here and I'll be back a thousand times. This was a wonderful event and I can't wait to taste the dinner and brunch menus and their gelato!!! Would recommend this establishment right away to anyone who wants to get a terrific meal in Newark!

Yelp
We have been to Caffe Gelato many times and always had a great experience. My wife has chosen it for her birthday dinner a few times. We have also used their catering service and been very happy. Last night, we attended Caffe Gelato's Pappy Van Winkle dinner to, and were really just blown away. Generous multi-course meal, with each course paired with either a bourbon cocktail or, with the second course, the featured Pappy Van Winkle bourbon (10 yr; others available for an upcharge). The atmosphere was alive and happy. Cocktails were delicious (highlights were the Vesper and Bowers Old Fashioned), as was the food (the pasta Bolognese and entry, a filet, were particularly great; everything by was beautifully presented). And the Pappy lived up to the billing :) At $149 for the base price, this dinner was a really good value for a special occasion - even without considering - the cost of the rare bourbon, given how good everything was

Yelp
Caffe Gelato has delicious food and a very classy atmosphere but sometimes it lacks that edge to make it truly great. For example, the two times I ordered a meal with shrimp, shrimp were over cooked, which is inexcusable. Today my boyfriend and I went for a "1/2 off your bill if you wear Delaware clothes" deal. He got stuffed French toast which was divine, and I got paella. Paella was delicious but- the shrimp...However, all in all it is a great restaurant with pretty sweet deals and I will definitely keep coming back for more!

Yelp
Cafe Gelato used to be one of my favorite restaurants - it was a sure-thing. Lately, it's been kind of hit and miss regarding the preparation and service. My entree came out after my wife was done eating on one occasion. On another, I had to send my steak back three timers - on the third time, I just decided not to have dinner. On other occasions, I have had some truly memorable dishes.

Yelp
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE. I had a 1245 reservation and upon walking in was not greeted by the hostess which should have been a red flag from the beginning. The hostess brought me to a table and did ask if the table was okay before seating me and then that was about the most of my visit. I sat there for 25 min too long before actually getting up and saying something. An elderly couple was seated and immediately served water and the gentleman even was able to order coffee all the while numerous servers and even one of the managers walked past me TWICE without any acknowledgement. The restaurant wasn't busy and it was well staffed with a lot of them having the flexibility to have conversations all the while I'm sitting behind the partition of the hostess table wondering if I would even be helped. I asked to speak with the manager, they were both at the front and I explained the situation. The hostess did take responsibility and said she forgot to assign sometime to my table. The manager said he would discuss it at their weekly or monthly meeting but I can't help but wonder was that really an innocent mistake? I drove an hour and twenty min to a place I NEVER felt welcomed and I feel disgusted by this establishment. Take your money and business elsewhere please. I went next door to Peach Blossom Eatery and had amazing customer service, food, and drinks and later ate at Hamilton on Main!

Yelp
I have been avoiding coming here because I always thought it was really expensive but their brunch is a DEAL. $15 bottomless mimosas were great. Although they taste really good they don't have a lot of alcohol in them which is kind of a bummer. The French toast and potatoes absolutely did not disappoint. We enjoyed everything we ate. If you go you have to get this French toast! As for the service I will say we were a little disappointed. There was only one host and he was running around lot. Im glad we made a reservation otherwise I think we would have left. Our server was clearly overwhelmed because she only came up to us like 3-4 times and was a bit short with us in the beginning. Once things started to slow down she was nicer to us but it was unfortunate for sure.

Yelp
Great flavor even when we got home. We ordered two dishes plus a fries. We picked up the food a little late than we supposed to. But the foods are awesome.

Yelp
Came for brunch during UD parents weekend. It was apparent they booked tables waaay beyond their capacity to handle, as we (and many tables around us) waited over an hour for our food to arrive. We happened to be seated near the pizza oven and we could see cooked pizzas sitting out for 20 minutes before being taken to what I'm sure were unhappy recipients of cold food. In the end, our brunch food was very good and our waitress was lovely and apologetic, but they didn't offer to take anything off the bill, which was annoying. All in all, four stars for food and waitress, one star for overambitious booking and unacceptable wait time.

Casey T.

Yelp
Really disappointed again...twice in a row that I've felt ripped off ordering from here. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but come on.

Yelp
Came in for drinks and sat at the bar. There was no one working at the bar. We sat there and sat there and no one came over. There were people drinking and eating there so it wasn't like it wasn't open. We left and went to the hostess station and asked if we could sit at a high top table for drinks. She looked annoyed after we told her we weren't eating and kind of gestured us over to these dirty wobbly high tops. There we sat and sat and sat with no greeting. There was a bunch of employees in that front private room. I don't know if they were having a meeting or just hanging out. Either way they saw us and didn't seem to care. We then went back to the bar and sat there when finally one came out and since she seemed to know the people we were with we finally got greeted and served. I had the gelato martini which was like a raspberry flavor. It was tangy yet sweet. A little too sweet for me but still tasty for a hot day. They had a check in offer for a free gelato which I had planned to redeem after dinner but decided against it after just feeling generally unwelcome.

Yelp
I seemed to noticed that while the waitstaff is great, very accommodating and polite, it's hard to not see what happening when they leave our table. The other day my husband and I came into Caffe Gelato and immediately heard (what we can only think is the manager) yelling at a few girls because they didn't do something correctly and after asking for help he denied it, and then told another to move a table while they were actively bringing food to someone. My son used to work here ages ago when he attended the university and said the same thing about the owner. Although you as the customer are treated with the respect and kindness you deserve it seems as though the wait staff isn't given this luxury. A lot of the younger staff members (most likely in college) seem to be very nervous and uneasy when their superiors are near which leads me to think about if this is a healthy environment or not for students (or anyone for that matter) to be working. Although that was a pretty big thing to overlook during our dining experience the food was amazing and the ambiance was gorgeous.

Yelp
I called a friend and said, "I need pasta & wine, where should I go?" He directed me to Caffe Gelato. It's located near the college, so, be mindful of the students walking around the streets. I overheard a student say, "Adults look at us as if we're aliens." I chucked because I know I was judging; I even thought a group of girls looked more like hookers. But, I digress. Gotta love the kids. I ordered a glass of Zinfandel, which was absolutely delicious, and the lump crab and shrimp capellini. I was in a crazy headspace so I didn't really read the "rosé sauce" part. I anticipated a white white and garlic sauce. Who knows why, I'll just make it for dinner. Anyway, the bowl of pasta was comforting, just what my heart needed. I almost forgot, the focaccia and garlic olive oil was delightful. I wanted to lick the olive oil of the plate. Anyway, nice little restaurant. If ever I'm in the area and wandering off the beaten path, I'll stop by.

Yelp
First of all, the waitstaff should not be faulted for the chaotic, cluster-fuck that was New Years. We had reservations at 8pm and arrived by 7:40pm. We find that the restaurant did not prepare at all by moving the day-diners and, instead, your NY evening guests that paid 129 plus additional costs for upgraded champagne etc. were left standing out in the pouring rain for 30 minutes. We proceed to wait in the front "tent" for another 30 as we all mingle, feel bad for the people still standing outside, and discuss that this was already poorly executed. We finally get our name called at 9:04pm, where we enter the tiny cafe and the only word that can describe everything is MASS CHAOS. We fortunately sat beside a wonderful couple who informed us they got their early (earlier than most of us) and that no one knew what was going on. It was stated we would get 2 craft cocktails, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of champagne. All of us were informed that we didn't get craft cocktails but only an old fashion that was so watered down, it was beyond disgusting. We left them sit and didn't touch them. We continued to wait for another 45 minutes before we asked what we would like for the main course. After that, we received the tiny charcuterie board and then continued to sit until 10:30ish and we received tortellini, 1scallop, and 1 mini lamb lollipop all at once. Then we wait for another hour! (It's 11:30pm by now and we didn't get our main course nor remaining first courses). People beside and behind us hadn't even received their dinner. At this time, we are starving. Alexis, our waitress, was kind enough to bring us bread. By 11:45, we get the kale salad, lobster, and shortly after our desert all at once. All were cold. The worst is we sat and missed new years. We were trying to eat versus enjoying the music and the surrounding because we couldn't. This was my first time at cafe gelato while our dinning neighbors loved going there. We all agreed we would not be back. The entire night would not have been as bad if we hadn't spent $300 (plus a 70 tip and Uber) for the night to have a great experience. Instead, we left wondering what we paid for and grimacing/laughing at the horrible experience of it all. Again, this is not against our waitstaff. Alexis was lovely and we knew it wasn't her fault. However, management and the owner should be held accountable for that night and tried to comp. or remedy the situation. None of that was offered. I'm sure Cafe Gelato is/was great but they lost a lot of customers that night - new and old. Hopefully 2023 helps in giving them better insight on strategy and management.
