Longtime NOLA Chef Duke LoCicero Opening New Restaurant Dab’s in Metairie | Eater New Orleans

"I recall that Duke LoCicero, the longtime chef and owner, ran the French Quarter’s Café Giovanni, a beloved Decatur Street fixture for 26 years that closed in 2017; some of its signature dishes — including a fried oyster plated on a “stained glass” pattern of five sauces — are among the items he says he’ll revive at Dab’s." - Clair Lorell

Caffe Giovanni had a soft opening today, and it did not disappoint! It's a beautiful open space when you walk in with seating from the front of the cafe all the way to the back. The first thing you see is a FULL case of gelato imported straight from Italy. There are flavors for everyone! The pastry display is along the side of the counter towards the back. They weren't fully stocked since it was the soft opening, but there's plenty of room for baked goods and take out, like the pitzelles I got, and in addition to coffee, there is a refrigerator with imported Italian sodas. I decided to try the affogato and it was absolutely perfect. The coffee is some of the best I've had in a while. I also tried the black and white cookie cause what's more Italian that that? Lol I'm a little disappointed that they're not open for business yet because I'd love to go back and get another coffee tomorrow!!! Make sure you keep an eye on this new local business and check them out, they should be opening in the next couple of weeks. They're located right on Mill Street across from Papa's pretzels 💕

Stopped into Cafe Giovanni in Bristol and had the mint chocolate chip gelato and a slice of pistachio cake — both were absolutely amazing. The gelato was super creamy with the perfect mix of mint and chocolate, and the pistachio cake was so fresh and flavorful. The place had a really welcoming vibe, and the owner even came over to say hi and make sure everything was good. You can tell they really care about what they’re serving and about their customers. Definitely one of those spots you remember and want to come back to. Highly recommend!

Caffè Giovanni in Bristol is such a great spot! It’s bright, super clean, and just feels inviting when you walk in. They’ve got a ton of gelato flavors to choose from, there were 24 the day I was here, enough that you’ll probably have a hard time picking just one. There’s also a separate bakery section with fresh pastries that look just as tempting. The gelato is delicious creamy, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a warm day (or really, any day). It’s a very family-friendly place too, so it’s perfect for bringing the kids or meeting up with friends. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re in the area!

Stopped in and grabbed a small pistachio and mascarpone gelato and it was beyond wonderful; especially the pistachio. The staff was so friendly and helpful that I was even able to locate some lemon drop cookies to bring home. Highly highly recommend stopping in if youre in the area. Can't wait to go back and check out the affogato flight!

What a gem in Bristol! Stopped by for the first time and we were immediately impressed. The service was incredibly friendly—everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The gelatti was absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor and creamy perfection. The restaurant itself was spotless, with a clean and inviting atmosphere that made our visit even more enjoyable. Definitely a new favorite spot—Bristol’s lucky to have this place! Can’t wait to come back and try more flavors.

My husband & I have been to Caffe Giovanni twice since they opened. The first time, we got espresso, cappuccino and some pastries. I love that they are doing authentic Italian style coffee. And it was delicious! More recently, we stopped in for gelato and it was so good! I tried the Stracciatella (my fav) and my husband got tiramisu. We can’t wait to go back, lol. The staff is amazing as well. The owner explained so many things to us when we first came in. He talked about the coffees and pastries. Such a friendly guy! And the second time, two women were working and they were so pleasant and helpful. I also love the quiet Italian music playing inside and outside. It adds to the charm! What an amazing addition to Bristol!

Yelp
Caffe Giovanni is a clean, well lit and tasty new addition to Mill Street. They did a great job with the inside construction. The young lady working the counter was quick, kind and excellent at whipping up the orders. The presentation of gelato and sorbetto flavors looked great. It was hard to choose a flavor. They have some Italian pastries and cookies too. I went with my tried and true favorite Nocciola - Hazelnut. It was smooth, dense and delicious .... I wish it had more of the hazelnut flavors coming through, but it was still good. My son was quiet and devoured whichever flavor he had. I had a cup of Kimbo espresso with a side of sparkling water. Kimbo isn't my favorite brand, but the espresso was a great side companion to my gelato. Suddenly, Bristol Borough has one heck of an ice cream scene. Pop's has Bassett's, Spad's with their delicious flavor combos and now Caffe Giovanni bringing authentic Italian desserts and gelato to Lower Bucks. Life is good! Thanks guys and see you soon!

Yelp
This is a wonderful addition to Bristol!! They have many flavors to offer. They also have a couple of vegan flavors. The cookie on top was absolutely delicious!! You can enjoy your treat inside or outside or take a stroll down to the river and enjoy your gelato. I definitely recommend this caffe.

Yelp
If you want to walk into an inviting, warm and friendly place with great food and drinks (non-alcoholic), you MUST experience Caffe Giovanni. Honestly, we didn't want to leave!! John and Karen Caiola have created a true treasure on Mill Street. Pop in, say hello and try some of their offerings. Don't forget the gelato! They even have a flight of gelato. Check out their Instagram!! Caffe Giovanni is a true treasure!

Yelp
Caffe Giovanni has a terrific atmosphere. We came for some gelato and ended up hanging out for a while. The imported Italian gelato was incredible! It was silky smooth and delicious. My husband and I also shared a piece of cannoli cake with delicious cappuccinos. (Fyi they have decaf). Meeting the owner Giovanni, was awesome. He was friendly and welcoming. He made the entire experience even more special. Caffe Giovanni is going to be our new weekly stop.

Yelp
Top notch customer service and treats! Called a few weeks back (last minute!) to order a cannoli cake for my sons birthday. In less than 24 hours, Gio had the cake ready for pick up! If they can make it happen... it will happen! Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but can't say that I did. The gelato was great and no doubt delicious but I found it to be too pricey for the size. A dollar less and yes would be more worth it. The medium was tiny and I knew ahead of time but not worth the cost. I also ordered hot chocolate and it was basically hot fudge. I almost asked for milk to dilute it because it was just way too rich and thick. It was the size of an espresso but I only got through half of it. The cake was good but seemed very "big box" store bought kind of taste and feel. Was looking for a trendy hip spot to go to after dinner but was sadly disappointed. Not enough options either.

Yelp
I'm happy to find this place! It definitely is a taste of Italy here locally. The portions are much larger but the quality is great, and everything I had tasted fresh.

Yelp
Omg!!! I have probably gained quite a few pounds since Caffe Giovanni opened!!!! Not only is the gelato amazing but John and Karen, the owners are so nice as well as the staff! Delicioso!!!!

Yelp
I visited Café Giovanni for the first time today and it was absolutely delicious the history and the cappuccino was amazing. The owner Giovanni was very pleasant. I will definitely visit again so happy that there is a place like this on Mill Street. Bristol bar really needed a great place to eat well and drink well.
