Yelp
I feel like I have so much to say about this little place, but most of it is suggestions.
First of all, the location is ok, but not great. It is kind of "off the beaten path," in the commercial area of Harrahan, which is ok, but I am guessing only people who live in Harahan ever really go here. The parking is fairly ample.
As far as service goes, everyone seemed to be fairly professional. The lady at the register was helpful and efficient.
When you walk in, you have to order at the desk, which I actually like better than table service. They have a wide variety of teas, including awesome herbal teas. This is a big plus for me, since I don't do caffeine.
The breakfast menu offers a wide variety of options, but since I won't be heading out that way often, I decided to jump right in and get the eggs benedict with hashbrowns. It is my firm belief that if a cafe can get that dish right, everything else will be awesome. There is real skill involved in making even a decent benedict.
When my breakfast came out, it looked ok, but since I eat with my eyes first, I would say that it would be worth it for the business to invest in slightly nicer plates and to add some green to the dish for color. A little parsley on the potatoes, for instance, wouldn't hurt, or even a slice of orange with the peel flipped up along side the eggs. These additions would be inexpensive, and would make the dish so much more appealing.
The flavor of the benedict itself was good: lemony and well balanced. None of the yolks were overcooked. Still, I was missing the benefits of a "pretty" breakfast.
As for decor, as a customer I dislike cheap/stereotypical kitchen decor, and this place is the poster child for "I went to Kirklands and bought some chef pictures." It would be great if the owner could, instead, find some local artists with Louisiana themed pieces, and put the art up on consignment. It will give the cafe a more personal feel, and the owner wouldn't have to spend a dime.
Also, there is a nice little cubby in the center of the room...filled with things like Styrofoam to-go boxes and random, hodgepodge decorations. Maybe those things could be swapped out for a little merchandise like cute mugs branded with the business name.
Most of all, the back wall above the large windows has an obvious mold problem, and I found this concerning. That stuff needs to be taken care of ASAP.
