Great location! Highly recommend visiting if you are near MOHAI and South Union Lake. They have a good choice of different delicious coffee drinks, but this is not a good place if you want to eat special and fresh pastries. The interior looks good!

Google
Umbria feels like an Italian cafe in the best way- the espresso counter and tall tables for a quick drink, then a seating area just on the other side of the wall for those who want to sit back and relax. The cafe sits on a sleepy street with plenty of outdoor seating. They have many different food options, though I’m partial to the piadina containing spicy salami and arugula. Their coffee is good! Is there better coffee in the square? Probably, if you’re really into pour over and specialty coffee- but Umbria is open early and makes a mean cappuccino. Their standard espresso is good and their baristas are talented. I highly recommend Caffe Umbria for coffee dates and early morning breakfast.

Google
Ice caramel latte has good flavor but it's not sweet at all. If you like non sweet, this one might be for you. The location is very tidy and the staff is nice. Drink was ordered in person and done quickly.

Google
I got the lavender latte and it was good! Not the most pronounced lavender flavor, but not bad. The coffee was strong, so that's always a plus! Their pastries as pretty good - they have a squash cake that I liked, their almond bearclaw thing was only okay. It's a cute little spot. Baristas were nice. It felt like a reasonably priced place.

Google
UPDATE: went for second visit. it was cleaner. Matcha was good. However there are many flies in the store, and even one in the bakery cabinet.

Google
Ordered two lattes and two pastries (no meat) for 25$ which is a bit on the expensive side. Matcha latte is great but oat latte is just ok (tasted a bit over roasted). It’s such a shame that they can’t warm the pastries. I took the pastries home and warmed them myself - was much better!!

Google
Latte was okay, the goal wasn’t very fine. Chocolate croissant came flat(I’m not sure why) but it tasted great so I forgave it. Latte came with a piece of chocolate which is nice. Atmosphere is modern and clean. There are a couple of booths available

Went here for the first time to get some stuff done before work. The staff are super friendly, and the drinks are superb. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a nice spot to get some work done with good coffee

Yelp
Honey Oat Latte was one of the best decaf coffees I've had! Not too bitter or sweet but flavorful. Staff was kind too. The cafe design could have been better, but I liked that it had a relaxing vibe.

Yelp
Enjoying my doppio macchiato! Small Seattle based roastery and cafe with few Chicago locations. One of the best espresso drinks for my taste. Service is also friendly. Just s lovely place to have espresso fix. Some sweets are also available

Yelp
Cute lil coffee shop near the water on South Lake Union :) I didn't get her name but the lovely woman at the counter offered us free Macrina pastries at closing so we got to try so many delicious ones!

Yelp
Bakery item I got was really good, and warm. The coffee, I think because I like coffees with more sugar it wasn't a favorite of mine but I got my mom one and she was a fan of the coffee. Whoever the girl was that worked when I went in was so sweet, this was the second time I went in and asked her about maybe adjusting the coffee sweetness because I do like it on the sweeter side and she offered me different options, she also made sure I liked what I got. It's also a nice cafe to do homework, do some work, or hang out, it faces the water and feels very cozy and relaxing.

Yelp
Fantastic, friendly service. The various hot beverages were well crafted and delicious.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop with great service! Came here on a Friday morning for a coffee and saw that they had a deal going on where you can buy a bag of coffee and get a free drink. Decided to buy a bag of coffee beans ($14) and got an iced honey oat latte. The coffee flavor was really strong but good quality! The espresso flavor wasn't burnt at all and paired really well with the milk. Wish there was a bit more honey flavor but still a great drink!

Yelp
This one is for Jenna. She made me a delicious tea and intuited every need ("are you looking for an outlet?" "The bathroom code is... ") without me asking. It was the morning before my wedding and a chat with her eased my nerves about reading my vows. Such a lovely woman! They are so lucky to have her.

Yelp
Cafe Umbria is in a perfect location, and a cute coffee shop! The staff was beyond friendly (S/O to you guys!) and even offered us a free treat. Coffee prices were okay, normal for this day, but delicious! Perfect walk from our Airbnb.

Yelp
My business partner and I were in Seattle for the first half of this week and had the absolute fortune of having a Caffe Umbria nearby our hotel. In particular, this Caffe Umbria with Ely and Jenna who became our BEST FRIENDS as they helped us start each day right. Being from out of town and not familiar with Seattle, we wanted to try all the local spots we could. From the deliciously roasted and brewed hot coffee to the locally sourced pastries, we were actually eager for morning to arrive (we even stopped in one afternoon). Ely and Jenna put the experience over-the-top with contagiously fun attitudes and expertise to help a couple of under-caffeinated newbies figure things out. We simply cannot overstate our experience here and are so thankful for every drop, crumb, and smile. Shout out to Ely and Jenna from the "Virginia Boys"!

Yelp
I never wrote a review but I visited from CA like 3 yrs ago and I still can't find an oatmilk latte that was as good as caffe umbria. I'm a caffeine addict so I was just walking around for any coffee pick me up. THIS $7 COFFEE HAD NO RIGHT TO BE THIS DELICIOUS. I tried so many coffee places in Seattle that trip, many more popular spots. Specifically the honey oat milk iced latte. I will be back for you...
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I come here just for the outstanding service by Jenna and Ely. Yes, coffee and pastries are wonderful too but hospitality by these two baristas is out of this world. I can't brag enough about these two, they truly are the best and make connections with each person coming in.

Yelp
Stopped by Caffe Umbria during a morning walk around Southlake. Had a lavender latte with coconut milk, which was delicious and the perfect morning pick me up. Friendly service and baristas. Relatively fast service. Some outdoor seating along the front and side or just take your cup of Joe to go and enjoy a nice walk.

Yelp
As a bar manager, I just want to emphasize to those reading this just how difficult it can be in the service industry to assemble, train, and retain a team of folks who are the ideal combination of personable, attentive, knowledgeable about the craft/ product/ service, and efficient on the customer facing side of things. It's even harder to find folks who extend that same energy to the behind the scenes work customers don't see, but certainly feel the impact of, such as cleaning, stocking, display arrangement, maintenance, etc. Then, on top of that, they have to like each other. Somehow, by some miracle of positive human affinity, this tiny Café Umbria has assembled one of the most genuine, kind, and welcoming, collections of folks I have ever encountered at any business. This is only matched by the attentiveness, care, and passion they put into every drink. Even their food selection, while not made in house, is always consistent and prepared with precision and pride. I wrote this on a day when I walked in tired, frustrated, and down. After five minutes and one sip of the most excellent coffee beverage I have ever had (quad shot honey oat latte with a bit of chai) I felt like everything was going to be okay. So for your own mental and spiritual well-being, go in and experience it for yourself. And tip them with the same exceptional generosity they contribute to the community. They deserve it.

Nicholas J.

Yelp
This place is fine - coffee is pretty good. Food was alright. But my little small breakfast sandwich and large coffee was $18. Simply ridiculous and not really worth it. Breakfast sandwich wasn't even those freshly made ones... preheated and reheated. For $18. Kind of outlandish honestly.

Yelp
Great chais and yummy pastries. The staff are also super friendly and it was neat seeing them chat with their frequent customers. Their regular chai and turmeric ginger chai were both not too sweet and had a great spicy/ warm kick. Their raspberry lemon cake was also very moist and huge! Great place to get some work down or take your drink to go and walk by the water.

Yelp
Extremely slow service. 3 staff and they tool 4 minutes to ring up the only customer in front of me and he only asked for a quiche. I don't blame them for taking so long to ring up an order as they have a single till. The food is better than Starbucks but I waited 6 minutes for them to warm up a hand pie that was still cold inside. They need ovens not sandwich press to warm food. I had already left and didn't go back to complain as they built a line of people. Coffee is better than Starbucks but they clearly don't know the difference between a Cappuccino and a Cafe Au Lait when it comes to the milk ratio. Just stick with a shot of espresso or straight coffee. As for the food ask for a longer warm time as they don't have the right equipment. The staff were slow but the company clearly doesn't give them the tools and training that they need to be a great coffee shop.

Yelp
Love this cafe and the people that work there! Everybody is super friendly and the coffee, and pastries are amazing! Our favorites were the honey oat milk latte, Caffe Al Pepe, and the single origin brew of the day! We loved the tree hugger breakfast sando, the spinach feta egg white hand pie, lemon curd yogurt, and the raspberry filled croissant! Special shout out to Jenna for being amazing and suggesting all the amazing drinks and snacks!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has such amazing coffee!! I ordered the almond milk latte and it was incredibly light and the perfect amount (most cafes only offer 16oz), but the 12 oz was just enough for my caffeine boost. Smooth and delicious!
google avatar

Yuchen Z.

Yelp
The first thing I notice here are the flies. They are just buzzing around everywhere. It is really unappetizing to see flies around the pastries and around you when you're waiting to order/to pick up the food. I hope they can find a way to get rid of them inside.... The only pastry here that has got my attention was the almond croissant. It was good. Was it $7 good? No. I only got it because I had a craving and I couldn't find it anywhere else at the time. The good pastries also gets sold out early in the day so be quick about it. The other pastries left are just not my cup of tea. Overall, cute place and nice local coffee shop. But It's kind of underwhelming.

Yelp
A pretty decent coffee place in SLU area, stopped here for coffee and walk across the waterfront today. I picked the Lavender latte- hoped for some extra flavor of the lavender, felt it a bit less. My friends picked Ice mocha and Turmeric Ginger chai.

Yelp
SOOO GOOD ! The customer service here as well is so great. I met an amazing barista who recommended me a great drink. I 10/10 say try this coffee shop when you're in Seattle. It's right next to the lake so you can enjoy your coffee there The prices are also great and these use OATLY oat milk and light roast coffee. I love how they have food too because it's an easy grab and go type of place 100% try it!!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm by no means a coffee connoisseur but their coffee is very smooth. I love their coco cream latte (rich coconut flavor)!! I appreciate that they didn't just use coconut milk and call it coconut cream latte. Their mocha piccante was good too but I'm not a fan of spicy coffee. Kinda pricey though. $5.23 for a 8oz latte

Jacklyn C.

Yelp
This place is a big time gem in SLU. I'm an americano person myself but have tried a few different drinks and will keep coming back for the staff recommendations. They know what they're doing!! It's a treat to watch people enjoy their craft to such a delicious end. It's rare in Seattle to find personable people in the service industry because us customers are so MEAN sometimes, but this Umbria team is a delight. Jenna and Ely are wonderful!! Even when it's busy if you can find a table with an outlet it's a great atmosphere to get some work done. Will be a repeat customer!

Yelp
What's not to like?!! Cafe Italiano?! Yes please. You only come here for coffee and the taste of their beans. Everything else is just a ok. The location is also great since it's across from Lake union/ Lake union park where we usually walk. It's also across directly from the very busy starbucks drive thru. Which is also great depending on what you are after. But I come here when I want a taste of really great espresso, espresso based coffee. And even some chocolatey drinks which I don't usually go for. As a cafe, it's bare on the food offering side. Even pastries are very limited and not the pretty looking ones. But the coffee! Nocciola Freddo being my favorite! So much deliciousness in a cup! Or their latte! or mocha picante ( spicy). Great coffee! Wish they have outdoor seatings so we can sit and enjoy! But for now, this works!

Yelp
I stopped by to check out this spot on a Saturday morning. They had a small selection of pastries, including hand pies, and an espresso menu. I ordered a hand pie and a small (8oz) light roast drip coffee. The hand pie (bacon, egg, & cheese) was mediocre with not much flavor, and my drip coffee was what you would expect. I think the coffee is overpriced ($3.50 for an 8oz drip) and wasn't anything special. This spot is along the water, so might be a nice spot to grab a coffee along your walk, but I won't plan to visit again.

Grace B.

Yelp
The drinks were pretty mediocre and my matcha was just a $6 glass of milk. They closed at 5 and at 4:55, instead of asking everyone to leave, they just turned off all the lights! Lastly, we watched them throw away a lot of extra food when there's a homeless encampment across the street that they could've given it to or just given them to the customers. Disappointed in both the products and the service.

Joan M.

Yelp
I was introduced to caffe umbria coffee several years ago when I visited seattle and fell in love with their coffee. Now I make it a point to stop into one of their cafes every time I am in town. I am partial to their arco etrusco blend, and I always stash a bag of beans in my bag to take home with me. Each location I've been to is comfortable and friendly. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
I've returned to this place quite a few times during my stay in Seattle - tasty coffee and fresh pastries from Macrina Bakery. The goods are somewhat pricey but worth it for a treat! I love that it's located so close to the water so you can enjoy with a view.
google avatar

Yelp
The GRANITA is fabulous. I always keep an eye out for the original coffee granita we all loved when it came on the scene 30 years ago--it's hard to find--espresso, milk, sugar, ice, from a machine--not a Frappuccino, not a milkshake, but an icy, creamy granita, Caffe Umbria has it! OH and the lattes are yummy and so is the savory breakfast stuff.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Very good mocha and had a small selection of pastries to choose from. Chocolate & raspberry crossiants we're both pretty standard but the place had a good vibe and the service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrific little coffee shop when you don't want corporate caffeine. I had a drink they made a bit spicy. Great! But the coolest thing was the barista taught me how to make those nifty designs on top of the drink.
google avatar

Wayne L.

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful staff. Had the Mocha Picante, and was just right! Smooth and not over bearing on the spice. Milk options: regular, soy, almond and oat milk! 12oz. Comes with 2 shots of espresso by default. Reasonable price and tiny raspberry croissant? Definitely would recommend!

Yelp
A cute little cafe off of Westlake on Lake Union. The space is very bright and inviting. A great place for a morning pick-me-up (coffee or treat -their quiches and cookies are amazing). The staff is very kind and full of smiles. The location seems very safe - just the hustle and bustle of the West Lake Union community. A big bonus is that the entire south wall - 3 tables and chairs at the coffee bar - of the restaurant has power outlets. Very convenient.. Highly recommended

Yelp
I love great coffee! I was given a Bialetti Moka coffee maker and have been using it instead of my Kuerig and can't be happier. The only downside using the Bialetti is that you have to use ground coffee instead of the Kuerig coffee pods. The upside is the flavor is 10 times better! I've tried numerous brands of ground coffee and decided to try Caffe Umbria. These are the same folks that originally owned Torrefazione Coffee. The flavor is phenomenal! Italians know how to roast coffee. If you want great coffee go to Caffe Umbria. You can get coffee there or get beans or ground coffee to take home. Either way, you'll have excellent coffee that is substantially better than that behemoth Seattle coffee company that sells burnt flavored java. The only reason that they don't get 5 Stars is that they don't have a shop on the Eastside, which means I have to drive to Seattle to get the coffee.
google avatar

Alissa I.

Yelp
The staff are nice depending on who is at the register, but I think the nice one left. Some of the other cashiers are blunt and say they can't hear you and get a bit annoyed. But they hear the white customers just fine when they chat with them for super long and keep the line waiting. If you're not white they barely talk to you. I asked them about some of the drinks on their menu, and they sounded super condescending, saying that they don't do this iced, this and that, and stared at me like I didn't know a thing... Like come on I'm just asking a question... Also, label your pastries with name and prices. How am I supposed to do what something is just by looking?
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
Glad to have another coffee shop option in my neighborhood to rotate with Herkimer! This cafe is located right off Westlake Ave and is super convenient after a morning walk around Lake Union. Based on the food and drink I wish I could rate this a 3.5, but with the view and location I'll give it four stars. I came here with family and we ordered a chocolate croissant, an almond croissant, and a quiche to share. These were all good, but I was a little sad that they only had a panini press to earl things up with, so the pastries weren't exactly the prettiest and had lost some of the fluffiness a good croissant should have. To drink I had the a mocha and it was a standard mocha, good but nothing to write home about. As a self professed chocoholic, I loved the little touch of included a square of chocolate with each dine in drink order!

Cheri R.

Yelp
Jenna and Ely at Cafe Umbria are so amazing! The coffee is delicious and don't forget some snacks when ordering your coffee...the croissants are my favorite.

Yelp
Really good coffee. Great biscotti In a quaint location that over looks the lake. Close to a lot of cool spots in Seattle but away from the downtown hectic-ness. Super chill vibes with a cool staff.
google avatar

George W.

Yelp
Excellent service/staff, great space, and solid coffee. My cold brew was a little bit on the diluted side but not enough take away from all the positives.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
If I have to let the coffee speak for the company, Caffe Umbria uses their own brand of roasted coffee for all of their drinks. For those new and curious about the flavor, they come in a variety of blends which can best be described as light, smooth texture (IE there's to gruff to the taste and it's overall a very solid cup of that's what you are looking for). Since this is the Umbria style, almost all the drinks you will find at the location has that smooth feel. This is inclusive of their darker blends, which again felt more like a blonde than a dark roast. With that said, I personally found myself a little bored of the perfectly smooth flavor after a few days and wished they would add something with more grit to the taste. This should not be confused with low-quality tang found at lesser coffee brands, but a darker, bolder texture that stays a bit longer in the mouth. If that's your thing, this isn't the place for you. As far as the location, the staff are friendly and they will converse openly about what they have to offer. Because this isn't the typical American brand coffee company, the service is a bit on the slower side as they perfect beverages; ie quality over quantity. So if you see even one person in front of you, expect a bit of a wait to be served. I took a star off because of their speed, but overall still a top contender.
google avatar

Ruochen W.

Yelp
The barista was incredibly sociable and I had a great conversation about grapefruit. The granita, citrus version, is the best slushie drink I've ever had in my life. It's so natural tasting and lacked that artificial sweetness I dislike. Would definitely return!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
I appreciate the selection of savory and sweet food items, but there are no signs indicating what they are or the prices. I was met with annoyance when I asked what things were. Then, my total was far more than I anticipated. In addition, the store was sweltering and numerous people were crowded inside which made waiting for my items sweaty and unpleasant.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
The Lake Union location is my go to for great coffee and tasty snacks. Their decaf beans are my only "home beans". My fav Seattle coffee.
google avatar

Lin R.

Yelp
Great location next to the bus stop and the Westlake bike/run trail.I love coming here and grabbing a chocolate shortbread cookie and latte. Quality of coffee is better than Starbucks (across the street) and the service is always friendly.
google avatar

Elizabeth Q.

Yelp
I want to marry the morning barista here because he makes the BEST coffee. Really though, all the baristas are friendly and attentive and all make amazing coffee. They have seasonal drinks which are really interesting, but most of all really good. The drink menu is kind of limited but everything here is a solid choice. Highly recommend the maraccino latte (probably spelling that incorrectly).
google avatar

Lucas D.

Yelp
Try a Bicerin to stay, it's pretty awesome.. Wifi password ("1201westlake") and specialty drink descriptions need to be posted and easily visible. No self-serve water.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
Wow. Best latte I have had in an a very long time. Perfect location and spot to stop anytime but especially on a rainy morning.
google avatar

Fred G.

Yelp
Went and got a 16oz chia latte. Service was quick and friendly. Chia was hot but down at the bottom it was gritty. I had about 1 or 2 ounces to go that I couldn't drink. Maybe straining it next time.

Yelp
On Westlake ave n your options for some coffee are limited! I love going on a walk by the lake and later stopping by at cafe to grab some coffee after a morning walk, their pastries are nice as well! I appreciate the little chocolate on the side! It was makes my day!
