As a bar manager, I just want to emphasize to those reading this just how difficult it can be in the service industry to assemble, train, and retain a team of folks who are the ideal combination of personable, attentive, knowledgeable about the craft/ product/ service, and efficient on the customer facing side of things.
It's even harder to find folks who extend that same energy to the behind the scenes work customers don't see, but certainly feel the impact of, such as cleaning, stocking, display arrangement, maintenance, etc. Then, on top of that, they have to like each other.
Somehow, by some miracle of positive human affinity, this tiny Café Umbria has assembled one of the most genuine, kind, and welcoming, collections of folks I have ever encountered at any business. This is only matched by the attentiveness, care, and passion they put into every drink.
Even their food selection, while not made in house, is always consistent and prepared with precision and pride.
I wrote this on a day when I walked in tired, frustrated, and down. After five minutes and one sip of the most excellent coffee beverage I have ever had (quad shot honey oat latte with a bit of chai) I felt like everything was going to be okay.
So for your own mental and spiritual well-being, go in and experience it for yourself. And tip them with the same exceptional generosity they contribute to the community. They deserve it.
