Moved within walking distance and had to give it a try! It was ready when I got there and I’ve got to say it’s pretty good— fluffy bread and fresh ingredients. They did forget to put bacon on it that I paid extra for :( but I would give it a try again.

Google
I usually prefer small business over chains, but in this case my recommendation is to get your sub from Jersey Mike's because the service and quality are higher there. The subs are not bad here, the service is mediocre, and once you factor in the price ... the conclusion is JM for the win.

Google
I've lived like a half a block from this place for almost 2 years and didn't know it was there. The other day I was feeling very sick and nauseous so I decided to get some soup it was probably the best chicken noodle soup I've had and I don't know how long and I was an executive chef. I work really close to them and I make sandwiches too.... keep up the quality consistency and wonderful customer service

Google
I used to love this place but today was the worst. Got the wrong delivery and said I’d get it right. Still wasn’t. Awful consumer service, the manager wouldn’t even let me talk. My boyfriend went there and it still wasn’t right. Would NOT recommend. The sandwich was all lettuce and no blue cheese like it said. Not worth it and very very unprofessional. He continuously spoke over me. I’d recommend someplace worth the meat and veggies. And the cheese cake had 2 slices of apples for almost $8. I remember this place a lot different. Save your money friends :)

Google
Always hit this spot at like 2am on a Saturday. Great late night food and friendly staff. Highly recommend anything off their menu.

Google
Nothing special. Has strange spice smell inside. Slow service. UPDATE: the second time I visited service was faster. The rosemary smell toned down and it looked a slight bit more eye catching inside as if a few decorations had been added. I appreciate this business owner taking feedback seriously and doing what he/she can to be more inline with customer expectations of a great experience.

Google
This place deserves 5 stars, but 1 star is for attention...specifically the coleslaw. Yoooo....what happened to your coleslaw? It's different than it was, I swear it. I'm the weirdo who loves coleslaw, but what did you do? Own up to your crimes. It took me a second to really understand what it was that was wrong. A seasoning perhaps? But why did it taste like the sea? I pulled out a dark green plant looking peice. Nooooo you wouldn't.....did you? Was that seaweed in my coleslaw? >:( Whyyyyyy? ;______; If it's not seaweed, idk what rhe heck it is - but it doesn't belong in coleslaw.

Google
This was my first time here and I ordered the "Simple Philly". The meat was dry, there wasn't much cheese, the bread was "ok" and there wasn't any peppers or onions.

Meghan F.

Yelp
They are the best. Order delivery through their website. Site looks a little jank and was unclear when it was delivered but sure enough, a bag of hot pastrami appeared. Everything is good. Always. In the late aughts, the blue cow was it.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
II'm still on my quest to find the best. pastrami sandwich I can in Minnesota. I'm going to give them an 8 it of 10. I asked them to put it on a sub bun and I was pleased that they said they would. I was expecting a bun like Jimmy John's or Subway. This was an 8" section of a 3 foot long bun. The bun was pretty ordinary. They could do better. I wished I had asked for extra pastrami. I thought it needed more. They added a little bit of cheese. It would have been better without it. There was also a little mustard but not nearly enough. We got there at 12:30 and the place was empty which made it easier for them to take the time to customize our sandwiches. By the time we left the place had a pretty good crowd if count the pick up orders . I think the place only holds 20 people at 3 tables and a counter. It needed lettuce, dill pickles, pepperoncinis or hot yellow wax peppers. My wife thought the slices were to big and made it difficult for her to eat.I think I could get them to make us a better custom sandwich but if I'm going to drive that far and do that I might as well keep trying to perfect my pastrami sandwich. I wish them well. They are nice people.

Yelp
Cute deli! Our sandwiches were delish! The bread was soft and fresh, plenty of filling. Definitely a repeat.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
My favorite is the blue cow sandwich. It's a good, clean place in a convenient location.
google avatar

Z Z.

Yelp
Fresh and high quality ingredients, service was chill but friendly. The food was really good but it was a bit pricey for sandwiches.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Sandwich was awesome and the service was great! We drove here to see a comdey show from 3 hours away. Heard it was a nice place to grab a sandwich. I would highly recommend.
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
Great food - have been coming here for over 10 years! Everything here is fresh and made to order. Typically I like to get the #24 Havin' A Ball. Was taken back with sticker shock today when a full size 14" meatball sandwich and can of soda came out to $25 and some change. The food and atmosphere is great, and love that they are open extremely late. Unfortunately, the cost of their sandwiches will prevent me from being as frequent of a customer as I have been.

Jay K.

Yelp
Service was not good and felt like the cashier did not want to talk to me/was short with me. Would not recommend the vibe to anyone. Food was okay at best they could have added more meat!
google avatar

Kokulo S.

Yelp
Was indecisive as to what to eat but when I walked past I had to stop because their menu caught my attention with its variation of sandwiches. Delicious isn't the word as its one of the best sandwiches I've had. Its more of a take away but you can also have a seat and view the streets as people and cars walk and drive by. The service was awesome because the staff was really receptive and fast in delivering my food.
google avatar

Yelp
Order for delivery a couple times a month at work. Love their veggie sub. The bread for a sub is so important and the bread here is excellent. The delivery can be slow but if you know that going in you can plan accordingly. Recently had a delivery where I got the wrong sandwich and they were great about it and their service recovery was excellent. If you like sub sandwiches and you have not checked this place out, you should. Better than Milio's IMHO. I'll be back again and again
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Delicious subs for great prices! Absolutely love their selection and staff is incredibly nice. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of great delis in Minnesota, so I'm glad there's Caffrey's!
google avatar

Tia G.

Yelp
This spot was just ok. Needed a quick lunch and stopped in. First they got our order wrong (ordered a chicken cheesesteak but got beef cheesesteak instead). We had already gotten home and didn't feel like returning. Even when checking the cheesesteak we noticed how little meat was inside. It was all bread and barely any innards. The other sandwich was good but not worth a return trip. Was hoping for better but...will keep looking for a great sandwich spot. This isn't it for me.

Colin O.

Yelp
Solid sandwiches. Not the greatest value in the world but it seems like fairly food quality meats and ingredients.

Abby M.

Yelp
first time getting caffrey's even though i've lived in the neighborhood for years, and i will definitely be back! service was super quick and the sandwich hit the spot.
google avatar

Lina A.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times & they have never dissapointed. It's fair to say everything on the menue is good. Specially their Philly cheesesteaks.

Mo T.

Yelp
The guy with the hat and tattoos who works there is very rude, not good energy for someone in customer service. I asked him how about sauces and he was very dismissive... same with when I asked about the soup. He should give up customer service and do something else with his life ! Life's too short to be a debbie downer
google avatar

Jennie M.

Yelp
The Veggie Sandwich is AMAZING! I order it once a week via Foodsby. I've tried a couple other soups and sandwiches and they are very good, but the Veggie is absolutely fantastic. The bread is always fresh. Also I highly recommend adding a 3 pack of snickerdoodle cookies. They are so good and one will not be enough!
google avatar

Selena M.

Yelp
My daughter actually brought me her leftovers once and I ate it was like where did you get that amazing sandwich? so I finally got to come in person ...seems like a real hidden gem and you're not getting just a sandwich you're getting an artist sandwich ! my goal is to try each and every single sandwich
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Best sandwich shop i've seen in Minnesota. Being from New York makes finding good food difficult. I search no longer in the sandwich department... Haven't found a bad item on the menu yet! Sandwiches, salads, soup, and dessert all check out!
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't realized this place was in lyn lake sooner! I've been looking for a deli and this one is so so good! It has the staples your want and is the perfect simple deli. No frills and prices are normal. Hope this never goes out of business.
google avatar

Chicky R.

Yelp
So, I've always ordered the Chicken Salad Sandwich, but today I got the Blue Cow. I could've eaten the whole thing (it's HUGE), but you would've had to roll me out of my office. I have to say, this sandwich is my new favorite. It's weird getting all excited about a sandwich, but this one is that good. I'd attach a picture, but geez, it was gone too fast. Now I can't wait 'til dinner (if it lasts that long). Order with a bit of fresh horseradish...it clears your sinuses!

Sarah P.

Yelp
The best submarine sandwiches I have ever had. They have a variety of sandwiches, all freshly prepared. They have a large variety of sides, including potato salad, coleslaw, soups etc. they also have chips, local pints of ice cream and cookies of your choosing! Did I mention free delivery?! No pics included because I eat my food too fast, it's that good.

Colleen C.

Yelp
we just moved to town and swung by Caffrey's tonight before other errands. I got the Ruben and my boyfriend got the Italian Philly. we loved our food! i saw some other reviews saying they don't put a ton of meat on sandwiches but I actually thought it was just right -- other shops often over stack, making it difficult to eat. the 1000 island dressing was amazing and their sauce kraut had a great, unique flavor. definitely will be back!

Yelp
Oooof. Caffrey's is a tough place for me to review because you want the place to do well but there's a lot that needs to be improved for me to give them three stars. The store: the shop is located in a great spot in all the hustle and bustle of uptown. I've been here twice and both times I have not been impressed by the cleanliness of the place. One of the times the cooking area was disgusting with so much stuff all over the floor and people looking confused and not cleaning up. They definitely were stressed, but that's no excuse to let food pile up on the floor. It's a safety hazard and isn't cleanly. The sandwiches: I like their sandwiches, their bread is good and the toppings are better quality than subway or jimmy johns. I had the veggie sandwich with grilled chicken and loved it. Nothing crazy fancy about it but it was well balanced and a good size. The service: oh man, the place was so severely understaffed during one of my visits that I had to just leave without placing an order and waited almost 20 minutes in an empty line to do so. :( I felt bad for the team but they looked so lost I swear I saw someone just staring at the lettuce covered ground ready to leave. Hopefully this place can get their staffing right in order to service the volume they can get at night!

Yelp
I don't think this sub shop gets enough credit for what they do, and some of the reviews I've seen on Yelp are quite brutal. OK, maybe they don't really accept their own coupons (jury is out on that one) and the service is not always friendly. This is a takeout place that feels more rough around the edges than one would normally find in Minnesota. But being from out of town, the harsh edges don't bother me. And the sandwiches I've ordered have always turned out correctly made and delicious to eat. In the LynLake area, where a lot of restaurants are over-hyped (and over-priced), it's nice to find an honest-to-goodness working class sandwich joint. I hope it never changes.
google avatar

Kaprice W.

Yelp
We ordered 2 sandwiches to go, the middle class and the ranch gobbler. Both sandwiches were good flavor however, the ratio of bread and toppings/ meat was way off. There was mostly bread than anything. Kinda wished they put more meat in them. They both had only 2 pieces of deli meat in them per sandwich. Lettuce, tomato was sparse. Bread was a good quality though and didn't get soggy when saved for later. I would go back to try their hot sandwiches just hoping for more of a sandwich not a piece of bread.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
This is a bit of a dive, alternative music and a very interesting refrigerator door ascetic, but good food! It was hard to choose because they have so many good looking options, but I ended up getting the #12 The Blue Cow (grilled roast beef, blue cheese crumbles & bacon with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and mayo.) Not the cheapest sandwich (on the menu or in general), but it was a massive sandwich. Super tasty. I came back to try the soup per recommendation from a friend - again way too many options (loaded baked potato, broccoli cheese, Baja chicken enchilada, chicken wild rice, beef chili, veggie chili, chicken noodle, white bean chicken chili, tomato basil.) I ended up ordering the portabello mushroom barley soup - the mushrooms were phenomenal but overall was a bit bland for my taste (but perhaps just my fault in which soup to order.) I'll be coming back to try more!

Yelp
Caffrey's is soooo good! The bread is soft and delicious, the meat is really good and ingredients are perfect portions on the sandwiches. My husband got the three pepper chicken sub which is a hot one (temperature hot) and I got a regular turkey sub with mayo, lettuce, and tomato which is a cold sub. We both loved our sandwiches. The hot sub was delicious and I'll definitely order a hot sub next time but my cold sub hit the spot on this hot summer day! We both got combos which came with a side and drink. My husband got chips and I got macaroni salad which I really liked. I highly recommend stopping in and getting a sub here next time you need a sandwich!

Yelp
I love Caffreys and I'll tell you why. 1) SERIOUSLY delicious and super creative hot and cold sandwiches. Check out their menu. For example, the Blue Cow is roast beef with blue cheese crumbles. Yum! And sometimes you just want to be basic and get the hot ham and Swiss with mustard. Also yum! Full disclosure, I was basic tonight. And I regret nothing. 2) Then their sides are also amazing too! I believe they make all these in house. Coleslaw, check. Potato salad, check. All the homemade soups?! CHECK. But don't forget the chocolate chip cookies for dessert! Or maybe some local ice cream. That's what I like to see- local supporting local. 3) Did I mention they deliver? And not via a third party app, the good old fashioned kind. 4) I feel like the homemade soups should get a number of its own. Deserved. 5) Local institution. Please, Caffreys, don't ever close. You are the heart and sandwich soul of Uptown.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for soups and sandwiches! The Lake Street Italian is my go to and it's loaded with meat and fantastic. Their roast beef is the closest I've found to New England, melts in your mouth. Friendly staff and super fast delivery!
google avatar

Haley H.

Yelp
I've been wanting to eat here for a while and finally got the chance and I am not disappointed! The menu is huge with something for everyone. I got the vegetarian sandwich and it was amazing. Make sure to get the cheesecake brownie as well! I can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Colin G.

Yelp
Best veggie sandwich in uptown! Especially when you add the vegan chicken. You won't go away hungry.

Zach K.

Yelp
Place is ok but not worth the money. We went there a couple months ago and they weren't jugging on ingredients and the sandwiches were massive. We went tonight to try it again yeah they use Walmart $1 French bread and nope the loaded Philly is not loaded. You will eat all bread and that's for all the sandwiches now. People wonder why places go out of business...
google avatar

Kurt M.

Yelp
Recently, my daughter was staying with me on a visit from her home in Nashville. After an event that we both attended, it was late and we were hungry. We decided on something to grab 'n go because we wanted to get home in time to watch a movie. She suggested Caffrey's. I replied that I'd never heard of it. She was astonished to hear that. When I discovered that it's located at Lake and Lyndale, I too was stunned that I'd not previoulsy been aware of its existence. I drive by this modest storefront many, many times per year. In any case, when my daughter lived in the neighborhood, she and her two roommates were regulars. I can see why. It's a funky, ulra-casual, value-priced spot for tasty sandwiches and sides. She went with the PC (Turkey, Capicola & Provolone with Lettuce,Tomato, Mayo and Cherry Pepper Relish) and I chose the Loaded Philly (Quality Grilled Steak, Grilled Onions, Green Peppers, Mushrooms & Provolone Cheese). For ~$8 these were hearty, flavorful bargains. Add prompt, friendly service, a comfortable bohemian vibe, late night hours (open until 3:00 AM) and the fact that is is locally owned and independently operated and you have a winning combo. I wish I'd discovered this place back in the day. But now that I'm clued in, I'll be back for more, soon and likely often.

Yelp
First and foremost, I don't understand people who don't enjoy sandwiches. They're such a simple pleasure in this complicated world. Caffrey's does a great job at making sandwiches that satisfy the people. (At least the ones that I know.) There are many choices to pick from, while there's also the opportunity to construct your own creation from a generous list of toppings (or accessories, as I like to call them). The restaurant itself has an ample amount of seating, although it seems like they do a lot of take out business. It's conveniently nestled within close proximity to many bars, which makes it an ideal spot for grabbing something quick while adventuring on the town. They're open late to fulfill your late night hunger as well. (Every once in awhile, it's necessary and comforting to fall asleep after consuming a bedtime sandwich.) While there are many sandwich shops in the world, it's nice to support local businesses, and this is one of them. Their food is delicious and stands out above the competition.

Yelp
My friends and I went in and all the staff were wearing masks correctly except one person. While we were eating our soup, this exact employee yelled at us for eating inside. We ate our SOUP inside because there were people eating sandwiches inside at the time we walked in, and there were NO SIGNS saying we can't done in. We were mid way through our soup and he told us we couldn't eat inside, we apologized and packed up, saying we didn't know we weren't allowed to. While we were packing up, he was very rude and repeatedly told us we needed to leave while we were on our way out.. we then ate our soups outside and this same employee came out to tell us how he was the owner/manager and has been dealing with shit customers and how we should know he didn't feel bad for kicking us out. When he came outside to continue to harass us, he told us we weren't customers (??? 4 of us bought food???), how "we probably came from up-down" (irrelevant but we weren't from up-down), and continued to say he wasn't sorry. He eventually went back inside. Then from inside, he motioned from behind the counter to come in, and when we were inside one of us pulled out our phones to record, and he started apologizing. Then we went back outside. Then he came outside AGAIN, just to tell us to pull out our phones again so he can say he's not apologizing for anything. Throughout this entire interaction, an employee left the building to make a delivery and apologized for his owner. The staff that rang us up and also handed us our food were all polite and nice to deal with, but none of us will be back again, and urge everyone to never go there. Photos are of the "owner" not wearing the mask, and the building which clearly does not have any signs except MASKS REQUIRED.

Yelp
After a long night out, I appreciated the availability of Caffrey's for a tasty sandwich. But why not breakfast sandwiches? That seems like a big miss. I dug the deep, authentic flavors of my reuben, but it ended up being a bit too soggy. The meat was good, but the relish over powered. Most of the people who were on line at 11am on Saturday were people getting orders for delivery.
google avatar

Donovan W.

Yelp
Super good sammies! Easy to order online. The BREAD is amazing. The ranch gobbler is so good. I love supporting a local place that does it right.
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
Usually enjoy the HOT three pepper chicken! When I been raving about this place to everyone, of course when I bring ppl there to enjoy the food I've been getting then all the food is ice cold when it should be hot! Very disappointed... the service is always friendly and amazing quick service. More than willing to wait for hot food. Seems like the quality of food is going downhill....
google avatar

Lluvia T.

Yelp
Absolutely disappointing, I can understand being busy and overwhelmed but letting it affect your customer service that another thing. Always loved the sandwiches and delivery but the person running the show tonight not so much. Hope he's has a better night they're open late and it's still early! Yikes! Eat local peeps.
google avatar

Ryan J.

Yelp
Caffrey's is the best thing ever made. Unfortunately, although I only live 3 miles east of the restaurant they or GrubHub does not delivery to me. The Ranch Gobbler or their traditional turkey will rock your world, no need to visit the Smitten Kitten next door when you can have all of the fun @ Caffrey's. B Best sandwich in the Twin Cities, hands down. I love the staff that works here too, very blunt and rude in the nicest way possible. I wish they would expand and maybe pick up the place a little, but it has a grunge kind of vibe to it on the inside. It's not clean, but it isn't really dirty either. Restrooms are functional and you could probably do coke off of the toilet seats and not get a nasal infection (not recommend). I like their long hours as well. It's a nice spot to visit around 2am on any given day to see the drunk crowds. Photo coming soon.
google avatar

Markeita W.

Yelp
My order took over 2 hours to arrive. When it did arrive, several items were missing. When we notified the delivery driver he was most concerned about not receiving a tip. He expressed this also. When we called the store to speak to a manager, the manager did not take our concerns into consideration. He didn't even offer to replace the missing items. Even though the customer service was horrible, the food was pretty good. I will never order from here again.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
The late hours here is a must especially on the weekends. I'm a regular and I enjoyed the service and food here each time I go here.

Yelp
So I'm trying to practice patience and wait to review places AFTER I've eaten there a couple of times. I have been to a bunch of one hit wonders but that's been it. The second visit has been lackluster. On to the sandwiches! I am a yankee. I LOVE sandwiches. They are in my blood. In my DNA. Born and raised in NY then lived over a decade in Philly so I consider myself a connoisseur to say the least. A sandwich is so simple, but all the elements must play well together, and the bread is crucial. On our first visit to Caffrey's we ordered two combos with sandwiches and soup. Chicken and wild rice was tasty, the broccoli and cheese was a wee bit to thick and more paste like, but the flavor was good. Sandwiches were hit and miss. I ordered a chicken salad, it was simple and tasty. No frills but a great chicken salad none the less. Seasoned well with the perfect amount of mayo. The chicken Philly was mediocre. Very little meat, which totally f'd the bread-meat ratio. 2nd visit I went solo. I ordered the chicken salad again. I have been craving it for about a week (told you it was tasty!) Well I somehow got a turkey sandwich?! I opted not to call and complain or get credit and said well, I guess I'm eating turkey tonight! It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. (Honestly I could have gotten a better turkey sandwich from jimmy Johns! Which we have to boycott cause my wife hates his hunting ventures.) The bread was just soft. No texture. Turkey tasted just like salty butterball turkey lunch meat. Seriously there's much better lunch meat out there. Coleslaw, meh. No tang. The staff is nice and it's nice to be round folks with piercings and tattoos, but I came for a sandwich and not the atmosphere. Definitely better than subway, but don't think I've found my sandwich spot in the twin cities.

Yelp
website says to call to ask about the vegan/vegetarian soup option. i called to ask about it. dude's answer was "the same soup it is every day." oh ok yeah for sure! i'll just go fuck myself then. thanks! xoxo

Yelp
I've reviewed Caffrey's before, and I just had to post another review after last night! After having another restaurant not deliver my food on New Years Eve, and not finding out about it until it was too late to order from most other restaurants (again, it's New years Eve), I called Caffrey's - not only were they open, my food was hot, delivery was within a reasonable window (even on New Year's Eve, and after a snowstorm), and the driver picked up Diet Coke at a store because they were out - super hero level service! Caffrey's creates customer loyalty by providing great service, and by serving good food at a fair price. I love these magical, sandwich-making people.

Yelp
So flipping good. Bread was perfect. Sandwich was hot. Great sauce ration. Legit on point.
google avatar

Kedar D.

Yelp
Caffrey's is stocking vegan chicken again and so I had their 7-inch "Three Pepper Chicken" sub ($6.75 with tax). I was impressed. It's a simple sub served on soft, fluffy wholewheat bread and comes loaded with crispy vegan chicken (I don't know what brand they use, but it's damn good), tomatoes and lettuce, a spicy red pepper hummus and banana peppers. It packs a kick and is a good value given its price and quality. I'd give Caffrey's a higher rating, but they have only one other sub that can be made vegan. They also had a vegan soup available. Why not offer some seitan for a vegan philly (they do have regular phillys, after all)? These days you can easily get vegan turkey or ham or whatever which could greatly increase Caffrey's veg. offerings. That said, Caffrey's is a nice go-to joint late at night in the Lyn-Lake area. I will return.

Yelp
The day I gave birth to my son and was able to eat deli meat again, I sent my husband from Abbott to grab some sandwiches from Caffrey's. I ordered the hot shot Italian- because it had alllll the deli meat. And my husband ordered the Rachel. Both we're so good! We got some coleslaw, potato salad and some cookies as well, which were also super tasty. The coleslaw was our favorite. The sandwiches are big and delicious and the service was great. We ordered our sandwiches over the phone and my husband went to pick them up and they were ready right away. We don't live far so will be back!

Yelp
My favorite sub shop in the country. I stop every time I'm in the twin cities. If I dont get anything else, I get the Blue Cow sub. Grilled roast beef, bleu cheese, bacon. Why does no other sandwich shop have a hot sub like this?! It's not a complicated combination but I've never seen it anywhere else. I've tried several other hot and cold subs and they are all great. The soups, I dont know if they are homemade, but they are above average. I've had the chicken tortilla, Italian meatball, and potato. My favorite is the meatball but the chicken tortilla was amazing as well. The potato was a standard potato soup, but good. They are open late which is a huge plus. You can eat in, dining area is no frills but pleasant.
