"Cai’s spacious dining room can handle most special requests in Chinatown. They will even let you serve your mother’s mapo tofu or another special dish if it really means something special." - Naomi Waxman

I was given a menu for regular prices for family gathering dinner . When I ordered from the menu and was told those are extra dishes. When I saw the big dishes, I know I gotta pay extra double prices from the menu for those portions I shouldn’t order. I didn’t expect I order every dish with double portion. Just a kind reminder if you’re tourists or seldom dine in this restaurant, always ask the price for “extra” big dish and make sure the price is same portion as the menu you see. Actually I’m resident of Chicago, always eating in Chinatown’s restaurants. My first experience ever.

It's maybe $30-$50/per person. But I accidentally ordered too much, so it was $430 for 8 of us. Most of the food/dimsum I ordered were tasty. We like the roasted duck, dumplings, squid,.... But the Xiaolongbao was disappointed. It was too salty. I accidentally ordered too much so the staff packed the remainder into boxes to take home. However, when we got back to the hotel, we discovered that they did not give us chopsticks and dipping sauce. If you are in the same situation as us, you should tell them you want more dipping sauce and chopsticks. I think it wasn't too expensive because we packed the remaining food and brought it back to the hotel for breakfast the next day. So the 8 of us got 2 meals for $430.

Pretty good dim sum. Lacked a few choices, congee is too runny, quantity is less compared to other dim sum places in the area. Minghin is better in terms of service, quantity, quality imo

It's such a good meal for brunch. I love shrimp rice roll with sweet soy sauce and light crispy fried taro. If you're looking for Dim Sum to eat in Chinatown, I recommend this restaurant ! It's really worth your money :)

I’m so glad Cai reopened! It’s the best Dimsum in chicago( in my opinion) Big portion, delicious, reasonable price. They have Dim sum even in evening. Some staffs can speak English. But some servers don’t speak English. But it’s ok. Not a problem.

This is a true family Chinese restaurant. You get the vibe once you get inside. However, be aware that they will be more friendly with Chinese people than with other people (happens in many places, not only here), so if you are not fine with it and get irritated easily, please avoid it for your own good. Decoration makes you feel like in a movie, as it is true Chinese including tables and chairs, and staff is not extremely nice but they do their job perfectly fine, so no complaints! We ordered dim sum and it was amazing! Please, order anything that contains seafood (especially shrimp or crab) and it will be delicious! Price is also very reasonable, so we will be coming back!

Some servers here doesn’t understand English so you’ll have to be patience with them. I had to flagged down the server to place our dine in order. Their menu has two sides and apparently they forgot about the items (half roast duck, bbq pork and a seafood dish) we ordered on the other side of the dim sum side. The food here is ok. Don’t order the Korean style short beef as it’s mostly fat. The stir fried beef and pepper was good. The dim sum items here is about $1 cheaper than Phoenix Restaurant.

I don't like seafood, but wanted to try it and It wasn't all that. Though it's a personal opinion I asked those who went with me and they weren't amazed at all(they love seafood). The chow mein was more stale rather than cooked (don't know if that's how it's supposed to be). Waited a good 20 minutes as the food was steamed, so we weren't bothered. The ambiance was okay you can say, besides the dirty looks of the staff and the emptiness of not having them attend you (there were no people besides a family of 4).
