I love seafood, I'll try anything in the ocean. Even Nemo, I'd dip his ass in some house mix from Cajun Deli and eat his face off.
I've had this place bookmarked for a while, but I live in Maplewood, so it's quite the hike. I was leaving a work meeting and realized this place was in the same strip mall. I made a few excited noises then forced my co-worker to have a late lunch with me.
Walking in we see four tables, a couple people picking up orders, and a super smiley lady behind the counter. We grabbed some menus and sat down. The woman behind the counter came over and gave us some waters and asked if we had questions. We inquired on the market prices then reviewed our options. We knew we were doing a boil even if it's during work hours and we were risking a food coma, and sauce all over our clothes. Good thing I was given an apron the size of a whale. Seriously, it was like a rain poncho, and I'm glad it was once I started eating.
We ordered a pound of shrimp, mussels, and crab claws. This sounded easier than the crawfish to eat over lunch. I have no idea how we came to this conclusion. Only the mussels were easy.
We also ordered some fries to break it up. Fries came first, it was battered, I really enjoyed these fries. Like they're in my top 3 favorite French fries list now. Super crispy and crunchy, not at all greasy, and it came with a spicy mayo dip. We couldn't stop eating the fries, but then our seafood pan came, then there was no talking or French fry eating until the pan was gone. My face and fingers, well my hands up to my elbows, were covered in sauce. It even sprayed in my eyes a couple times. I'll need goggles on my next visit.
I recommend the house sauce, Louisiana and garlic butter mix, spicy. Oh my god, it was good. Our seafood was cooked perfectly, no issues there. It was so damn delicious I felt guilty my boyfriend wasn't enjoying this with me, so I ordered a pound of shrimp and snow crab to go for dinner later!
At home I added andouille sausage, and got some French bread for dipping. It was just as great later that night as it was a few hours earlier. I got even dirtier at home. I sucked the juices out of the shrimp heads with no shame. Takeout is the way to go to enjoy this place. My only regret is that I still didn't do the crawfish on my second order. Next time.
The prices are reasonable, cheap in my opinion for seafood. Per pound it was about $5.99 for mussels, $11.99 on the crab claws, and $9.99 for the shrimp. These shrimps cost like $16.99 a pound at the super market, and they don't come seasoned and cooked! I'm glad I don't Iive close by, I'd be dead from a heart attack eating this everyday.
