Good food, but majorly over-salted

Yelp
I'm so glad that Gaijin has re-opened inside Lincoln Eatery which makes sense because Cake Thai is in the same building. I heard that local chefs used to flock the original location in midtown because of the low key vibe and delicious ramen. And I have to agree, I tried their food a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. I started with Pork Belly Jam Bao Buns and they were mighty tasty. Explosion of flavors in every bite. Then I moved on to the Tonkotsu Ramen swimming in a 48hr pork bone broth. Wow! The toppings were fresh, noodles perfectly al dente, and the piping hot broth was thick with just the right amount of spice. I could've just smothered my entire face in that bowl but that wouldn't be a good idea...lol.  The buns were $11 and the ramen was $16 plus I added a Japanese soda so the bill came to $32. Yes it's a pricey lunch for one person but so worth it. Trust, I was painfully full by the time I left the eatery.   Loved Gaijin. The staff were very nice too. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. Maybe they will serve robata someday?

Yelp
It could be better. I only realized this was the second coming of failed Midtown Gaijin when I checked in at Yelp, perhaps too late. Ordered mushroom dumplings, which were okay but quite bland. The portion was not very generous, but I understand this is a premium location. I am big fan of okonomiyaki, a Japanese pancake from the Kansai region. In its first iteration, Gaijin's okonomiyaki was a disaster in Midtown. This iteration improves it somewhat, but it is still very odd. Too large, too dense, lacking in flavor and with no cabbage, this is miles away from the original Japanese dish. That and the fact they call it a 'japanese pizza' which only adds insult to injury. Service is slow and somewhat confusing. In summary, good ideas, poor execution.

Yelp
When I wake up in the morning every day, I try to fight off two things: my desire to not want to get out of bed, and not chugging the Tonkotsu ramen at Gaijin by Cake. The broth is INSANE. It's creamy, it's rich, the pork belly floating on the top has the perfect balance of fat to meat. They have a Togarashi spice mix on their counter that I love sprinkling on top for an extra kick. And, the noodles have the perfect spring on them, not too soggy, not too al dente. If you're expecting a comicly large bowl of ramen, this is not your place. The portion is smaller than average, but the quality of the broth is out of this world. The portion size is perfect for me though. Also, I had their pork bao which was okay, I felt like it had too much sauce and not enough filling. Overall, I crave the ramen here almost every day. I know you will too!

Yelp
So quick, delicious and fresh!!!! I had the spicy shrimp noodle bowl. A lil pricey but still worth it to satisfy the crave. The Lincoln Eatery has several quaint eateries and coffee shops. I believe there's a bar too. If you like noodles, you must try Cake Thai!

Yelp
Redemption after poor launch. This is my second visit to Cake Thai and just wanted to provide them with their first singular positive review since they seem to have made significant strides since my 1st visit during their opening week. I would agree with poor reviews from other reviewers since my first experience here was pretty terrible but I chalked that up to the entire food hall being extremely busy during opening week and therefore quality suffered then so I withheld my poor review to give them a chance. Today, I had the street noodles with shrimp, and the portion is probably close to 3x more than my first visit when I ordered the beef pad see eiw, and they didn't charge an automatic 18% gratuity. On my first visit, my dish was super small, only covering a small fraction of the box it came in, and was super salty and, since they tacked on 18% gratuity automatically, felt like a tourist trap. Today's visit was much better since the launch crowd isnt here anymore and it seems they have learned to cut down (probably too much now) on the saltiness and removed the hidden automatic gratuity. My noodles today were cooked correctly in terms of texture and the shrimp was the good, larger kind and fresh and served wok hot over lettuce leaves. Unfortunately, it really lacked flavor and salt this time, but the upside to this was that I could add various available condiments to it such that it turned out exactly to my liking of saltiness and spice level. It is a convenient location for me for my lunch break and it is great that they are making steps to improve. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I used to eat at the location on 79th all the time. Probably one of the best Thai places we have ever had. Really excited when they went to 1-800-Lucky and we go there all the time. Even more excited when they came to Lincoln road as one of our friends owns another store here. Unfortunately couldn't be more disappointed. They sell low mein thin noodles as drunken noodles. That's just ridiculous that they are selling the wrong noodle. Furthermore, the food has zero to little taste compared to the other locations. Furthermore they charge 16 for a little bowl of noodles that should be priced at 10-12 at most. Really hope you guys can get it together because we love your other spots.

Yelp
We took family from out of town to the new food court and chose Cake Thai because the general recommendations of the restaurant are excellent. Well, not this iteration. On the plus side, our pad thais and the other noodle dish were prepared as we ordered them. On the negative side, all the food was relatively tasteless. My pad thai was best described as gloppy. Maybe if it were on a larger plate so that the sprouts and other ingredients could be mixed in - impossible on the paper dishes they use. And, where was the basel and lime? The duck was not fresh and too chewy. My husband's noodle dish was somewhat like spaghetti, not a Thai noodle dish.

Yelp
I went here to eat after eating at another place inside the Lincoln Eatery. Decided to try it out since the last time I was there, they were offering okonomiyaki, one of my favorite Japanese dishes. I dropped by for lunch today and was basically told me what to order, the cashier told me they didn't have much available, not even bottled water. I got the pad thai with crab and a lychee ramune. The crab was cold, the noodles were oily, it was a mess. The ramune selection was also lackluster, as lychee ramune tastes like a fizzy rose garden. I was really curious about this place because of their Instagram. They're just pretty pictures, you're better off going elsewhere. Don't get swindled into paying $23 for mediocre Asian food like I was.

Yelp
I had been to the original location in midtown in the past and was disappointed when it closed. Came across this location in the Lincoln eatery by coincidence and was totally in the mood for ramen. That's all to say I was excited to eat this food. Unfortunately, it was awful. I had the tonkotsu ramen. The broth tasted burnt and was literally inedible. Given the cost of the items on their menu, I would think there would be some extra care given to the food they make? I would love to try it again and be pleasantly surprised to find out that this bad bowl of ramen was an anomaly but at $18 a bowl I'm not going to risk it.

Yelp
So I'm not from around here but I wanted to see how the Lincoln Eatery was and so I went in, upon entry I saw Gaijin, luckly I was in the mood for some takoyaki so I ordered the takoyaki rice bowl with octopus. The takoyaki was okay but what made me upset was it was just like 7 takoyaki and the rest was just pure rice like an absurd amount of rice. The lettuce or cabbage taste like saw dust and theres random Dabs of vinegar on the rice which makes it sour sawdust

Joshua M.

Yelp
My first time ordering was really exited saw the reviews and people were really hyped about this place unfortunately it was a huge disappointment the noodles bland no flavor chicken inside the noodles raw I order the samurai chicken and it was raw and some what still bloody definitely does not look like the pictures they have Definitely not ordering from here anytime period

Sharon M.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE!! WORST FOOD EVER!! The chicken was undercooked and not seasoned. Not even sure if it was chicken. Noodles were not seasoned! Everything tasted like like like bottom of the ocean. Couldn't finish. Spent $16 on a bowl of trash.

Yelp
I am assuming by the website down this business is closed and gone .??? Great ramen places in minis are hard to find tell me your fave?

S K.

Yelp
Still have a lot of kinks to work out. For example making me wait 20 minutes for my Ramen only to tell me they misplaced the order and will make it right away, and then when I came back another 15 minutes later, register worker and cook are arguing and then he tells me they don't have enough remaining ingredients to make my ramen at all. Extra hungry now. Got refund went elsewhere. Thumbs down!

Colleen G.

Yelp
Gyudon ribeye bowl for $18 was not good meat. The shishito peppers were pretty good. I don't recommend this restaurant.

Lenon B.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat. The employees are very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing omg soo mouth watering delicious. I really would recommend you try the rice bowls. The sweet chili paste with chicken is extremely good.

Kami C.

Yelp
My husband got food poisoning on the last day of our trip after eating the pork belly. So that kinda ruined the end of our trip. Our food was really good but food poisoning ruined the experience.

Tiffany T.

Yelp
The worst ramen I ever had Waited for too long and wasn't busy at time , Bad service , I never write a bad review this is the first time I have to .Had pork ramen they gave all the fat couldn't eat . Not recommended!

Christine C.

Yelp
Refused to provide us with tap water after we had already ordered our food. Isn't that illegal? No I don't want a soda or some form of sugar water. Your food is already an unhealthy indulgence.

M2 T.

Yelp
1st and last time - I ordered Drunken noodles and waited while the cook and the owner/mgr ? were arguing about the shift .. meanwhile I am there waiting.. and waiting.. finally a 3rd person decided to prepare my dish which came out over spicy (and I love spicy food). Noodles where so small (perhaps to feed a child). Wasted $17.00 + for a bad dish. Won't come back

Yelp
So, the first time I came it was amazing ! One of the best pad Thai I have tried. ! I come tonight at 930 , ordered the chicken pad Thai and it had a slight different taste and the shrimp was hard like "old " I went back and told the cashier who took my order that the shrimp was hard and the pad Thai had a odd taste and her response was " the shrimp was probably over cooked" and walked away super rude. And FYI The chicken was tasteless! I paid 18 for a tasteless old pad Thai. I won't be returning. If you want good pad Thai go to Lung Yai Thai Tapas.

Hannah E.

Yelp
Food is amazing but a tad overpriced. The customer service is really horrible and sad. If your cashiers don't want to work or care to answer questions then they shouldn't be working in the front. Sadly my husband and I gave this place another chance but that's it.

Fatima K.

Yelp
Went to Cake Thai twice during my stay in Miami and love the food there, especially Pad Thai! Definitely go back there again!

Lynette L.

Yelp
Wow what can I say best ramen noodles in town I've been to their other restaurant cake Thai have to say my favorite Thai food in Miami I look forward to eating their noodles almost every other day if you want to to taste true passion in your food they are a must go check them out in Lincoln eatery by far one of the coolest places I've been to in a while

Andres M.

Yelp
The best veggie ramen in the area, tasty and a good size to fill me up, my girl had the katsudon and it was great too. Totally recomended!!

Alexia P.

Yelp
This place was atrocious. Me and all my friends woke up with food poisoning the next day after eating the noodles!! Gastrointestinal issues, fever, body aches etc. This has been an awful experience and I will never be eating there again! They need to be more sanitary. I knew something was a little off as soon as I saw the types of noodles they had used in my bowl....sketchy rectangular noodles! Won't be coming back. /:

Graham W.

Yelp
I ordered what I thought was a bowl of yummy tonkatsu ramen, but instead got a bowl half filled with thick clear rendered pork fat and two pieces not of pork belly but of grilled fat rectangles that kept adding to the inedible concoction. I have been sick to my stomach ever since. Gaijin is a derogatory epithet for white imperialist. Guess the joke was on me.

Jackie U.

Yelp
Went to the Cake Thai at Lincoln Eatery and my two friends and I all woke up the next day with food poisoning after having the Pad See Ew. Do not recommend going AT ALL. They need to up their hygiene or permanently close. Never going back.

Joyce R.

Yelp
Why do you called your restaurant GAIJIN? Im interest in why. Ill go try tomorrow and update my review

Albert V.

Yelp
Rice bowls are delicious! Incredible, I've had all 3, a tie between the ribeye and breaded chicken. Would love a lot less rice and more protein given the roll price but the food is very tasteful. They are also on Uber eats which makes it easy for lunchtime delivery in the Miami Beach area. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

Amy F.

Yelp
I was craving for Ramen since MONTHS and couldn't getting the satisfaction of a good creamy and tasty broth at the other ramen places I've tried. So when I decided to give it a try at Lincoln Eatery omg it hit the spot so perfectly!! Worth it. Pricey but super generous portions I even took my shishito peppers back home

Elvina K.

Yelp
I had lunch in Gaijin on weekend and tried Miso Ramen and Ell boa buns, it was very delicious!) The ramen's stock taste strong enough. The meal were worth with the price. I will totally come back there!)
