Cal Poly Maritime Academy

My former roommate attended the Maritime Academy (before Cal Poly SLO merger i think). He was former Coast Guard (or US Navy?). He lived off campus and rode a bicycle to school (his girlfriend took their car for commute to her job, so had no on-campus parking tickets or impounds as described in other reviews). He graduated and got a license to crew and pilot barges, and seems to have done ok with it.

Don't. It's not what it used to be. Expect to be screwed by the academic advisor you didn't know you had. Enjoy the prison like dorm experience and garbage food you're required to pay for. Embrace the campus security that exists entirely to write parking tickets, because you aren't paying enough already. Hope your vehicle isn't broken into or vandalized, because they won't do anything about it, but they will threaten you. Its all about the money, which also neatly describes Vallejo and Solano county. Don't come here. I can't say east coast options are better, but they'd have to work hard to be worse.

This school is amazing. I am so proud that my daughter attends here. She loves it.

CSU Maritime is an amazing educational institution. The campus is beautiful. They have top of the line training facilities with some of the best maritime simulators in the world. Their engineering program is bar none. Every CMA graduate that wants a job will find a job, and will probably find a good job. CMA has a broad course selection ranging from navigation sciences to engineering and international business. Recently CSU Maritime merged with Cal poly San Luis Obispo. I'm confident this will make the school even better.

I would have gave them a fat one 🌟 but it was the police campus cops towed my car set my court date 2 months out show up to no court date this is the second time I went to court to find out I am not on the calendar again last time they did that 2 days later I have a warrant and get arrested for the setup well this time I went back with the ticket to get a paper in writing proving that I appeared on the calendar so since I don't have court should I get my car back they took it because I was making payments on the registration for $771.00 in full to get the car back if I could have done that I would have already the Sargent knows I I wouldn't be able to pay for my car I was already making payments on it

We had one heck of an enjoyable visit to Cal Maritime which is a public school that more than adequately does day in and day out what they are in business to do, and that is seldom an easy accomplishment. One of my cousins, a woman, was just Honorably Discharged from the US Coast Guard after four years of enlisted Active Duty Service right out of high school. She asked us if we would attend her first visit to Cal Maritime. She had chosen to use her Veterans Educational Benefits at Cal Maritime during her inactive US Coast Guard Reserve four-year duty because the average Marine Transportation major who graduates from a school in the United States earns about $82,250 per year during the starting years of their career. Graduates with bachelor's degrees in this field make 107% more than the average college graduate salary of $39,802. Cal Maritime has the highest employment rate in the CSU system - 94% within three months of graduation. 94% of Cal Maritime's graduates go directly into for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, government agencies, or graduate schools while 8% graduate as commissioned officers in the military. This is a fabulous school run by a fantastic leader, President Dumont. They have small intimate classes, studies vary from engineering to Oceanography! To me this is the best kept secret. The campus is crazy beautiful. They have dorm rooms with water views. The University is student centered. They also have a large variety of sports, such as Rugby, competitive swimming. President Dumont, teachers, and staff make Parents feel welcome. If I were a kid that's where I would go to school, hands down the best!

Traveled to Maritime as my nephews university was visiting to play basketball. Entry was $7 (compared to UC...$33). Nice, state of the arm gym, friendly staff, easy process to be and find a seat. I was glad to learn spectators could bring their own water bottles (whereas at pro ball arenas you cannot). We were allowed to visit with the players briefly after the game which was nice. The Maritime students and staff were very nice, greeted us, bid us good night (some opposing teams don't speak to visiting team spectators so I found the friendliness to be a highlight of the night).

THIS SCHOOL ALMOST KILLED ME. I have seizures and the cops would not let me sleep. After I told them if I don't have enough sleep I will have a seizure. The police did not care about my well being nor did housing or the school. If it wasn't for my friends and my sister who they kicked off campus into Vallejo at 1 am. If my friends didn't walk into my room I would have been dead

On a college tour with my high school students, we had the opportunity to visit CSU Maritime Academy and see the life of a maritime scholar. Don't let the uniforms fool you; this college is not a military school. It is an experience and exploration of self along the seas. The students took us around the tree-filled campus with its gorgeous, calming water views and its strong sense of community. Everyone said "Hi" and moved to the side as we stumbled through the tight quarters of the ship. This college is a change of pace. What a gem under the Richmond Bridge! Thank you for your future service, maritime scholars, mariners, and engineers.

ignorant Global Studies and Maritime Affairs education... lack of impartial views, horrific Spanish department (1 tenured professor), lack of diversity in classes, and not enough international tolerance to go around

Love this university. Beautiful location on the waterfront, small, hands on... a hidden gem. Best post-grad employment stats of the CA public colleges. Freshman dorms are badly in need of renovation/upgrade. But many other improvements regularly being made to campus, and recently announced a new training ship. They make an effort to offer a variety of food options at the Marketplace given the small size of student body. You'll get to know your professors and the other students in your major. Outstanding education & experience for the cost.

Went to school here. It is very political and it can be a bit unfair. Some of the teachers are amazing and some could give a rats a*s about you and are in it for the paycheck.

Wow! Who knew Vallejo had so much going on! I came to Cal Maritime to explore sending one of my children to school here. What I found was so much to like: location (right next to the bay), small class sizes, well maintained facilities, a stellar program, reasonable prices, and a 97% employment rate after college! I could go on but you get the point. Heck, I wish I knew about this when I was a young man...I might have done this first before engaging in what I do now! I love the ship "The Golden Bear" and while many young people flounder (no pun intended) after graduation, here's a school that lines people up for jobs and real-world experience. What a great place!

This review is based on the California Maritime Academy hosting an event, or my organization using the facilities. Yes, it is a college campus. This means it is not nice and shiny with exquisite and tasteful decorations. On the other hand, it is easily accessible from the East Bay, North Bay and I bet parts of SF. They have an auditorium for larger sessions or the kickoff meeting and classrooms for smaller activities.

This is such a good school. Im currently majoring in marine engineering technology and All of the teachers in the engineering program just want you to succeed. Classes are small which i think is a very good thing because it's easier to learn the material taught. Big props to the engineering department for holding it down. These teaches could be working for big name companies making twice as much but they choose to stay and teach. I think thats such a cool thing because they are not doing it for the money, they are teaching there to train students to become leaders and professional engineers.

Great school, very specialized! Put up with the bullshit for 4 years and you'll never regret going here.

Jobs for Deckies are vastly diminished as we sit in union halls for days hoping to get a posting. This school is too expensive for this result. Take into account the toxic environment stirred up by the new president and stress between Cal State administrators and Maritime administrators. Be aware that MT carry coarse loads requiring 5 not 4 years of school. There is a problem of bullying of students at the school by administrative staff and a group of student leaders called the core. Truly a toxic environment.

As soon as I walk inside of this brilliantly designed establishment, there are two things that I know I will get: quality AND quantity. I'm a regular here at the dining center, and I have to say, the goodness of the food is only paralleled by the attitude of the staff. Simply awesome, one of my favorite restaurants in California for sure.
