"Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa is a smallish resort that feels even smaller, a tranquil experience in a luxe enclave by the sea. While hardly the edgiest or most aggressively trend-setting of hosts, you can count on them to never put a foot wrong — lapses in taste are virtually nonexistent, and the service is always professional. Take the splendid beauty of the setting into account, and there are few places in Mexico to match it." - MICHELIN Guide

My husband and I spent three nights here, and we loved it! We enjoyed the spacious room, bathroom and terrace, complete with a refreshing plunge pool. We could not get enough of the expansive & breathtaking sea view (whale sightings throughout the day) from our room - from both the private terrace and the bed - or the guacamole & chips, fresh papaya and signature lemon & floral-scent that wafted throughout the resort. In the three days & nights we were at the resort, we didn't leave the place. There was no need to go into town or take any excursions, although the resort has a lot of interesting activities to try, if you're so inclined, including water sports, boat trips, archeological site tours, cooking classes, bikes for guests to use, and more. If you're looking for a place to disconnect and recharge, Cala de Mar is a great choice. |Worth mentioning:|The entire staff is incredibly sweet and accommodating.||The meandering pathways are lovely & atmospheric, but people with mobility considerations need to be aware of potential challenges.||Food is good, although the menu rarely changes. Seafood is fresh. Room service is available 24 hours a day.||The entrances to the rooms/suites from the corridors lock, but the sliding doors from the terrace to the actual bedrooms do not lock.||There are no curtains or blinds on the sliding glass doors, so if you need complete darkness in the morning to sleep in, bring a mask to wear.

What an amazing place ||||I ended up booking this reservation at the beginning of January. Getting it booked was easy, and a few days before arrival, everything was confirmed via email by hotel staff, and an itinerary was emailed to us before arrival. I could set up for spa day tequila tasting, along with other tours, in advance, and the pricing in pesos was attached at the time of making a reservation if one was needed. The seafood market was the only place that required a reservation. I was also able to schedule airport pickup in advance with two different options for transportation type. Arriving at the airport to locate the driver was easy. It was a very short ride to the hotel, about 30-35min. There was not a lot of traffic and just an overall very smooth ride. Arriving at the hotel and checking in less than 5 minutes, after check-in, we were given a quick mini tour of the basic amenities at the hotel. There was also an adorable library whenever you wanted to cool down with a beautiful view. They would have coffee, fruits, water, and snacks throughout the day as we had to walk through to get to our room ||||The view is fantastic, and our room was great, not to mention the pool, which I loved, and the sound at night is very relaxing. The room was comfortable. The pillows were more on the thin side but comfortable. The refrigerator was to keep stuff cool. We did ask for ice, and they brought us a cooler, which made it convenient to stick our water and drinks in that. They do stalk up the refrigerator daily while you are a guest. The day's highlight was the beer with guacamole and chips, which I enjoyed the guacamole and chips daily whenever they would leave the room for us. Outside seating was very comfortable. You could lounge out or stay in the shade, but I love how private it was. There were three different places to eat, and we enjoyed the food at all 3. I mean, everything was delicious. It seemed to be a lot busier on the weekend. But the staff was so accommodating, and the menu had so much delicious food on it that I wanted to eat. Overall, Ulysses made it even better. He was a great bartender with a great sense of humor, and his drink selection was delicious. He recommended drinks. Everything was delicious. If you do decide to visit the hotel, you must have him do the Mango Margarita with Tajín on the rim 😋||||Also, the towels are so thick and big 💜

The hotel itself is fine, first class service, excellent staff and a good cliff top situation. All of this ruined by totally poor dining experiences.|My colleague and I selected the pool side restaurant for our first night, a charming location. Supposedly this was the seafood restaurant.|We asked to see the wine list, of the 12 bottles or so listed, only one was available. Then to look at the 'fresh' fish displayed on the ice counter. All the selections were fillets and an insipid size. |My fish was dry and clearly not fresh.|This was served with unappetising and undercooked vegetables.|The second night to the main restaurant, on arrival the table we had reserved had been allocated to somebody else, then the main course served before we had finished our appetisers|The next night we had to escape, but this involves a 20 minute cab ride to the town of Zihuatanejo, and then back again...not ideal.|The resort was operating at less than 50% occupancy, but at its supposed standard no excuse for the poor catering.

Very nice hotel. The servers are very nice. On mexico time so no one is in a rush. Eric was the best!!! Avocado toast was amazing as well as the raw fish. Ceviche was hit or miss. Good wine and burgers! The terrace had live music one night that was killer! |Rooms are large and spacious. Wish we had an uncovered pool in the middle. HVAC works great but bathroom has not ac. Not far from the hotel. No beach to walk on swim in there but the pool is amazing. I would go back for sure just wish I could walk on the sand and get in the water. We went with two other couples that love it.

The staff at the Cala de Mar are so genuinely warm and friendly. Our room was very spacious and the view of the cliffs and ocean were breath taking. This is a very private and intimate setting with all the comforts one could ask for. We'll definitely be back again. Thank you everyone there.||

Amazing hotel with incredibly attentive staff. Every little detail is taken care for so we were able to feel very relaxed and at home! Thank you again for a wonderful stay! Highly recommend.

Everything was relaxing. The only issue I had was that no one told us, that the tip is already, by default, included on each receipt, we left close to 30% on each meal, until the last day of our stay when we noticed it on our tab. We did not intend to pay that amount of tip per meal. Therefore, find it rude on the hotel and staff part, not to mention this. The food is already overpriced. For our comfort, we decided that was acceptable, but the other hidden amount is not okay, and I say "hidden" because an extra TIP$ line is at the bottom of the total cost expecting additional to the already % of tip they take.

Beautiful place with fantastic service and attention to detail. We stayed here for 6 nights and did not want to leave.||Our room and its view was parallel to none. From our plunge pool, we saw whales jumping and tail slapping near the out-jutting rocks. This magical experience brought tears to our eyes!||When we made a request for water, coffee, room service - anything, it arrived immediately. There was always more than enough towels, water and room service. Little bites and gifts at turn down service were delightful. Room decoration amenities were thoughtful. They were very well organized in terms of check out costs. Every hotel staff person was friendly and made us feel cared for.||The tram/elevator that traversed the resorts' levels was surprising and gave a beautiful view. You might get a little lost among the staircases while you're here, but you'll figure it out!||The massages at spa were amazing - maybe the best I've ever had. I think my masseuse's name was Lotty or something similar? The 'hydrospa' service is for using the locker room and it's hot tub, perhaps not worth the additional cost though we had good privacy and waters and tea. ||Cooking class with Oscar was fun and informative. Loved the beer service too!||Only thing I wasn't blown away by was the food. There were some good bites, but it was costly for what you get. The American Express free breakfast is limited to two dish selection: chilaquiles, and eggs + toast + beans. Seafood market seemed a bit overpriced. Terrace was good. The local inexpensive restaurants off-resort were worth the cab price.||Overall, highly recommend and will very likely come here again. Thank you so much to everyone who made this place special for us!
