Caldi e Freddi - Review - Centrum - Amsterdam - The Infatuation

"A Google search of typical Dutch foods may yield dishes like stamppot, snacks like kaassoufflé and bitterballen, or viral stroopwafels, but if you ask locals what they actually eat on the regular, it’s the broodje. Be it a cheese toasty, the currently trending Italian schiacciata, or a simple but hearty belegde broodje, the sandwich in any form is so central to the Dutch palate that it’s even the national airline’s onboard snack de rigeur. A good broodje spot should use good bread, have a solid range of toppings, and most of all, be lightning fast with service. Caldi e Freddi ticks all of those boxes, as everyone in the long line snaking through the place can testify. It may seem like just another TikTok trap, but it serves lunchtime locals as much as it does travelers. There are several simple cured meat sandwiches and a good number of vegetarian options featuring cheeses, all on crackling baguettes. Skip the pizze, lasagne, and cannoli. The broodje is what you want." - Paolo Española

One of the best things you can eat in Amsterdam for just €5 The sandwiches are so good, with lots of variety. They also have vegetarian options.

It’s always very busy here but the sandwiches and food are very delicious for a decent price. I still believe it’s not worth it to wait in line for over 15 minutes, because it’s still just a simple sandwich. What makes it simple yet good is that the ingredients are very delicious on their own and it’s cheap. If you visit right before lunch hours or a bit after you’re more likely to avoid a line

It was busy when I went at about 1pm, but the queue is well organised and moves quickly. Food was delicious and fresh 🙂

Delicious, inexpensive and vibey. Caldi e Freddi has amazing food for an extremely good price, especially for it's location in Amsterdam. Definitely try the Arancini, Calzone and Sandwiches! Really enjoyed the tiramisu as well, make sure to have a bit of time though, because the line to order will likely be long around lunchtime.

Absolute BANGER! Sandwiches are crazy tasty, ingredients are fresh and they have very original combinations. All of this for 4.9€ for a sandwich. Pretty unbelievable if you think about the quality and the location which is in Spui, just behind Dam and in the very core of the canals. People there are all super Italians which makes it very funny to see (I’m Italian as well) and gives out a very energetic vibe. Also there was quite a queue but it went pretty fast so that’s also very good. Super enjoyable experience definitely recommend it to everyone for a sandwich but they also have pasta and desserts. Such a gem!

Came here a while back and ordered the ciabatta Cortona and a lasagne bolognese and found my experience to be average to good. They have a brilliant system in place in terms of walking in and ordering. Due to the efficiency of that the service goes quite quickly, even if there is a big line waiting. After ordering my food I waited around 5min before it was ready and they gave me my order with cutlery, napkins and clarified the order while handing it over. Once an order has been placed one of the staff grabs the receipt and actually makes that exact order, for then to be given out at the counter. The lasagne was quite plain, had barely any meat in it and was primarily pasta sheets and tomato sauce. The flavour was quite underwhelming. The ciabatta was made with lovely fresh ingredients with a good balance between toppings and bread. It could have had the topping spread out more evenly, but overall it didn't disappoint. Service is quick, efficient and fast. The server at the counter was slamming the orders through and kept things very organised. Overall a fine place to get a very decently priced sandwich or pasta to go.

Fairly cheap Italian trattoria. The tiramisu is delicious and very cheap. The sandwiches are home made and or Italian quality. I am looking forward to getting a pasta over there to take home. Sadly there is not a lot of place to sit down but perfect for takeaway
