Best Restaurants in Fredericksburg, Texas | Eater Austin

"Stop into this quaint coffee shop and roaster for an espresso drink made with its selection of beans, featuring a flagship blend from Colombia’s Huila and Tolima regions. Caliches is also home to what might be one of the tallest avocado toasts in town: the best-selling dish features a slice of toasted sourdough piled high with avocado, a jammy soft-boiled egg, kale, pickled onions, pepitas, and blistered tomato confit." - Brittany Britto Garley

We were up early on Saturday morning and happy to see that Caliche is open at 7am. We walked over and ordered coffee and breakfast. I had a cappuccino and the yogurt parfait with a peach compote and my husband got a kolache and breakfast sandwich. The service was very friendly and we were able to enjoy our morning on their back patio. If you are looking for a full service breakfast situation this is not the place but was perfect for coffee and light breakfast.

Absolutely delicious and fresh breakfast and coffee! Took advantage of the good weather and sat outside. Staff was super friendly and attentive. There was a long line to order, but it moved fast and most people ordered to go so we had no problem getting a place to sit and eat. We are definitely coming back!

Really enjoyed the quality of the coffee and the experience. Very friendly baristas that were happy to answer our questions to provide a great cold brew drink to our liking. Love that they use MillKing for their dairy options. This will be our go-to coffee stop anytime we're in Fredericksburg. 👍

Stopped here on our way into town and ordered a perfect flat white. Very smooth and just perfect. Great and friendly service and great coffee shop atmosphere. One of the best coffee shops in Fredericksburg and one of my favorites as well. Highly recommended!!

As a chef, I’m very particular with what I eat and try my best to ensure that when I eat out I get to enjoy food with the freshest ingredients. Upon entry, I was greeted with smiling faces. Cashier and barista was very friendly and ensured I got exactly what I wanted when I placed my ordered. They were unaware that I am a pastry chef and still provided exceptional service. I ordered the jill classic with medium fried eggs and a side of avocado. The sour dough bread was absolutely amazing and my eggs were fried to perfection. I also ordered a hazelnut caramel latte that was delicious but I forgot to ask for it to be on the sweeter side but that was totally on me but I still devoured it. Thank you guys for an amazing breakfast, with the best customer service!!! I’ll definitely recommend others to your establishment.

Google
The avocado toast is an excellent way to start a fun Fredericksburg morning. Normally, do not enjoy kale... this was great, though! Nice balance between savory, acid, etc. Good mix of protein/fat/carbs to get the day going. It is a BIG serving, so share with someone you love and enjoy the tasty coffee. :)

Everything we’ve tried has been fresh and delicious. The Enchanted Parfait with peach puree exceeded expectations and the sourdough is a must.

Yelp
I have not found better craft coffee anywhere in the hill country. I'm a "snob" from Houston and can say I know good single origin espresso when I taste it. Otherwise, when picking a new shop to try, I'm a simple guy. I see latte art on business photos, I check the place out. How I've missed this place since it opened several years ago, I don't know. But I'll go nowhere else for coffee (except to my great distaste) any morning I am in Fritztown. The flat whites were darn near perfect. From the jump, the baristas were friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They were fun to chat with and could answer intimate questions about their roasts. No arrogant vibes, but only cool, calm "We know what we're doing" positivity. Plenty of intimate seating indoors as well as a nice patio out back. I'll be back each morning I'm here without fail. And I'll rep Caliche Coffee everywhere I go with their sick Roadrunner branded sticker on my water bottle. Cheers!

Yelp
I'll be smiling ear to ear when it's time for me to depart from Caliche shortly. This place blew me away so much so that I needed to whip out my laptop and type a review in the moment. There's a handful of coffee shops that are so magical and make you feel like they're placing a pause on time and Caliche is one of them. From their cute branded apparel with a roadrunner to their setup inside a cottage, it's just such a cute spot. It really compliments with the decorum of Fredericksburg on their main street but tucked away just enough that it isn't bustling with a crazy crowd. They feature their own roasting and take great pride in their coffee program which is evident in the machinery they utilize. My double shot espresso was one of the smoothest I've had in the states and had me reminiscing of my double espressos in Europe. My fiance had their green chili chicken & grits bowl and he really enjoyed. The person manning the counter highly recommended it and they didn't steer him wrong. I went for a classic kolache and it was made with kielbasa sausage and the bread was more of a brioche style. It was quite pleasant tbh. I think what stands out to me though is the authenticity and genuineness of the staff here. As we enjoyed our coffee and bites, they just seem to create such great conversations (including us) and that's so special. Parking is a little limited on the main street right in front of Caliche; however, take a right at the light right after and you'll see plenty of parking for street. Caliche will forever be on my rotation while visiting Fredericksburg!

Yelp
Great coffee and the avocado toast was sooo good. It was really filling. I had the flat white it was made just to my liking. Would definitely venture out here again for coffee.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop at the end of main street! But the coffee itself is so good. Great espresso being roasted here. I went on a Sunday morning around 10 and there was no wait.

Yelp
Caliche Coffee Bar & Ranch Road Roasters offers a cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and a variety of coffee options. We made a quick stop here on our way back to Houston. They have inside and outside seating. We enjoyed their selection of pastries, coffee, and tea.

Yelp
Still our favorite coffee shop in FBG. On Christmas Eve my husband came to get me a coffee at the end of the day and Macy was closing up and she still joyfully let him in and took his order. She made a delicious decaf latte with cinnamon. Today we are enjoying some breakfast! I got the quiche which is always one of my favorites. Husband got his favorite breakfast burrito - The Beck. It has scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese with a side of mild green salsa. I'm also sipping on that Latte once again because yum! It's almost always bustling and alive in here. Very chill spot for a nice little breakfast and cup of joe.

Yelp
Went here every morning of our trip. Matcha was very good, staff was super nice, and an overall good vibe!

Yelp
Cute little coffee spot close to the big church and a windmill and the Pioneer museum. I got a latte heavy sugar and cream service was great and then he was in there so I got right in and it's wonderful. I had a great cup and stop in if you're in Fredericksburg.

Yelp
Need a bit of a 'pick me up'! The farm to market iced coffee is really yummy! Not too sweet and you can actually taste the coffee. I asked the barista to make her favorite. It's very good. I asked for her favorite bread item and she picked the banana bread for me. Delicious. The area inside is small, but this is a walking town. There is a small seating section and the restroom was very clean.

Yelp
Walked onto the Main Street from our Airbnb looking for some coffee and this was the perfect location. Easy to find and the ambiance inside was cute. Though we walked I noticed a small parking lot in the back which seemed tucked away- would have been convenient if needed! The barista was very friendly and sociable and helped us decide what we'd like on the menu. Thought my latte was good my SO's matcha was really good. Something I'll come back for and think about for awhile it really did taste like cereal milk!! I'd say Froot Loops if I had to guess? Anyways, don't expect actual matcha flavor to come through on it if you're a die hard matcha lover but it was fun and creative so give it a try!

Yelp
Not great, not bad. Nothing stands out about Caliche coffee. The prices were on par with other shops around and coffee tasted alright.

Yelp
We've been to Caliche a couple of times already and I think they're one of the better coffee options in Fredericksburg. Located on the Main Street, parking could be a little challenging but we've been lucky to not have this issue. The place gets packed during peak times so be prepared to wait - the friendly employees make up for it though. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating which is nice if you want to hang out and chill. As far as the coffee itself, I got a basic latte and it was decent. Not the best I've had, but definitely far from the worst. It did its job. They also offer pastries - we got the banana bread and that was just ok. Overall, after trying a few coffee shops in Fredericksburg when we're in town, I've found Caliche to be the most consistent. We'll definitely be back next time!

Yelp
I forgot to take pictures.... My husband and I both ordered the breakfast sandwich (he substituted bacon for the egg, so a meat sandwich)... he got iced iced tea and I got an oat milk flat white and added lavender to it. The garlic butter on the breakfast sandwich takes it to another level. Coffee was delicious and we will definitely visit again the next time we are in town. Go give them your business!
google avatar

Brooks B.

Yelp
Best chocolate croissant I've ever had, great cappuccinos and they're highly addictive affogatos were so good I had to buy 2 more. I went twice in 3 days. Wish they had a shop in Houston. They'd be so busy it would be insane.

Jeree H.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance with excellent excellent service! Loved meeting "Dare" the beautiful pup - must try in Fredericksburg!
google avatar

Tyler B.

Yelp
Before doing something in Wine Country town, a cup of coffee would be great. In the Main Street where no chain store and Starbucks allowed! 90s music playing and bring your laptop! Vibing duesutland ( People's land ) in Hill country.
google avatar

Celeste P.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and snacks! Quick service and cute atmosphere. Staff is friendly and for how busy they are they really are skilled at keeping everyone happy!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little coffee and breakfast place on Main in Fredericksburg. Avocado Toast was amazing! Breakfast Burrito made with red potatoes was awesome! Service is very quick, staff is super friendly and coffee is awesome. Great banquet seating with comfy pillows. Very cute little coffee place.

Abby C.

Yelp
Just go here. No questions asked. Me and my fiancé literally went here all three days that we were here. Food and coffee is 10/10 and the staff is really nice.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
Any time I'm In the hill country I look for the best lavender latte. By Far this one is the best. Tucked away on Main St. Do not miss out!
google avatar

Vincent V.

Yelp
Pretty solid cold brew and single origin espresso blend from this spot that roasts their own beans. Was driving through and this was a great find. Cozy minimalist design inside and the barista was very friendly and dedicated to pulling a good shot and knew about the beans. Highly recommend and will be sure to return when driving through.

Yelp
This place has really good lattes and sweet treats. I stopped by here a few times while staying in the area. They have parking available behind the store and plenty of seating inside/outside (in the back). I LOVED their cranberry orange scone. It was delicious. I will definitely stop by the next time I find myself in the area.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with good coffee selection. Very limited food selection. The bagel we got was inedible (like a stale lenders that had been microwaved then toasted back to "life") but I think it's unfair to judge their food on something they obviously aren't claiming to bake. However, with all the incredible coffee shops around Fredericksburg, we are unlikely to be back.
google avatar

Neil S.

Yelp
Cute little cafe, the setting is perfect if you're wanting to beat the heat or find a place to do some work. Coffees themselves are quite good as well, all the standard options.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
Hungover? The good people and coffee will get you started, but the green chile chicken grits are an absolute game changer. I've eaten at some incredible restaurants with famous chefs that didn't have anything on the menu as good as these grits. This green posole style dish is the food equivalent of someone closing the blackout curtains, setting the thermostat to 68, turning on your favorite Netflix show, and tucking you in to bed. Don't leave Fredericksburg without this dish in your belly.

Yelp
On our first morning in Fredericksburg, a couple of the early risers from my group and I decided to grab some coffee in town. It is right on Main Street and has the small town charm to it. We came right as they opened and were greeted by their super friendly staff. It's a cute little coffee shop with a a cozy little seating area off to the sides. They have a little fridge with to go drinks and treats as well. We found this spot last minute so I didn't get to study the menu prior to coming. The chai latter immediately stood out to me, so I got that with almond milk. It was very well made and very tasty. I would order it again. We ended up getting a few more orders for our friends and everyone really liked their drinks as well. I would definitely come back when in the area!
google avatar

Carissa C.

Yelp
A great little (and quite popular) coffee shop! It was a cold and dreary Sunday morning, so no wonder why this place was busy on this visit. I had a latte with almond milk and sugar free caramel, and it definitely warmed my soul. Their coffee was made just right, and I really like how they have so many syrup options. Would recommend!

Cecile I.

Yelp
This is the best coffee I've had in a long time. Strongly recommend a Guatemalan pour over. The peach parfait topped with homemade granola was also soooo good. I had to come back twice for these same selections.

Riley B.

Yelp
The food was so amazing. you can taste the farm fresh eggs and the sausage is to die for. i got the breakfast sandwich and it was amazing. everything we got was so fresh and we will recommend this little hidden gem to anyone and everyone!!! this was the perfect breakfast place.

Milena G.

Yelp
Best coffee in town! Chicken grits bowl is amazing, my boyfriend also loved the bech burrito. Would recommend and come back.

Yelp
We came here during our most recent trip to Fredericksburg and needed some coffee and protein before staring our day of wine tastings and this place totally hit the mark! We squeezed inside and got in line to order which moved very quickly. I ordered a lavender latte based off other reviews which was a solid choice. They also had seasonal offerings which all sounded delicious as well. I ordered a jalapeño kolache which was super delicious. The offer other protein options including breakfast sandwiches and burritos. The inside is really cute with a unique vibe. The only two "complaints" I have are that we ordered our drinks to have at the restaurant and they were still served to us in a to go cup, and the to go cup wasn't branded at all/was a plain white cup. They have such cute branding so it was a bummer they didn't display it on their cups. But we will definitely come back next time we are on Main Street needing coffee!
google avatar

Aimee G.

Yelp
Super cute spot inside and out BUT we were not pleased with the coffee at all! service was great, very kind people. Coffee was just too bitter even when sweetener don't think I'll come back
google avatar

Staci C.

Yelp
Service was great and coffee was delicious! Very friendly staff and so excited they were open on Thanksgiving morning with friendly smiles and a welcoming attitude. Totally recommend and worth the stop.

Yelp
In Fredericksburg for a girls trip and we stopped here for breakfast! Such a cute place, indoor & outdoor seating. We ordered breakfast sandwich, the daily quiche and the gravlax and all were amazing! The coffees were good too. Fast & friendly service. Very good experience!
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
Coffee is legitimately robust. There is a nice ambiance but we didn't stay. We took our Coffee to go as we were exploring. The service was polite and attentive.

Yomaira S.

Yelp
Such a nice cozy spot! Had the lavender latte and the breakfast sandwich. Service was fast and friendly despite the long line. Both great. Small indoor sitting area but plenty on the patio.

Yelp
Was looking for a quick-yet-not-fast-food breakfast on our way out of Austin area for a road trip. Thanks to Yelp, we found this gem. Even though it was a whole *hour* outside of Austin, it looked so good we decided to push our morning hangry limits and wait til we passed through Fredericksburg to have breakfast. So glad we did. Cozy cafe. Delicious Autumn Spice Latte with maple. And this Gravlax Bagel to die for. The. Best. Bagel. I have found in TX! Fresh, perfectly toasted, crisp on the outside, dense & chewy (not bready) on the inside. Perfectly seasoned. And the toppings were soooo yum. The perfect balance of fresh lite veggies, salty smoked salmon, decadent chive cream cheese, and just enough pickly bits to kick the flavor punch up a notch. Only sad I can't get this deliciousness more often, but we'll definitely stop whenever we're passing through in the morning!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Cute and quirky coffee place with big patio and great cappuccinos. The flavor is wonderful and the foam is perfect they have a fancy Italian machine. Ample seating indoors with nooks and art on the wall. We came twice!! Reminds me of the fine quality found at Intelligentia coffee houses! Good value and highly recommended!
google avatar

Jazzy C.

Yelp
Great breakfast and coffee. I had the best avocado toast with all healthy herbs on it. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Best coffee and tea in town. My wife got a latte and I got a Chai latte, both were excellent. The patio outback is a cool place chill as well.

Hannah H.

Yelp
i ordered an iced matcha latte and my husband ordered an iced americano. both drinks were mild in flavor, but good nonetheless. we also ordered avocado toast for brunch, it was a little on the pricier side, but tasted great with unique flavors. there was construction in the inside of the dining area, which was a little distracting, but overall, it was a great coffee place.
google avatar

Abby L.

Yelp
My husband and I love this coffee shop! This is one of our go to places in Fredericksburg. It can get very busy so be warned but worth the wait.
google avatar

Leslie W.

Yelp
Best salad ever! If you'd like a healthy salad with some protein added this is the best in town! Kale, cucumber, apple, avocado, egg
google avatar

Malinda S.

Yelp
Amazing coffee, and friendly service! A really great place to stop and sit for breakfast too, because they have quality, healthy and delicious options. My husband and I both ordered the egg on sourdough toast....delicious and seems like they make their own bread. The atmosphere is bright, quaint and clean, and the laid back feel with their reasonably priced menu was refreshing. Our new coffee/breakfast date place for sure!
google avatar

Penny J.

Yelp
Honestly incredible. The food was above and beyond taste and flavor. The restaurant is cute and they maximize its space. For how busy it was the line moves quickly. It will be a must stop for any trip to Fredericksburg.

Brenda G.

Yelp
My coffee cup was so full (not even asked if I wanted room for cream) and I had to go back across the shop for a stir stick since the cream and the stir sticks were at different stations. As I picked up my coffee, the cheap cup collapsed and the hot coffee spilled all over my hand. Servers didn't even offer towels to help clean it up- just used napkins. Terrrible service, cheap stuff. There are so many other better places here with better service and quality products.

Bailey C.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and positive experience as soon as I walked through the door. I ordered a white chocolate blueberry scone (chef's kiss) and a hot chai latte. Both delicious!
google avatar

Sarnarrion B.

Yelp
The barista seemed annoyed to be there, then she filled the coffee cup to the brim...which resulted in it overflowing all in our cup holders. We had to actually pull over and pour some out so my husband could drink it. At that point the cup was disintegrating and the lid couldn't go back on. It was a disappointing experience to say the least.
