GREAT FOOD! Sunday brunch is a winner! Lobster burrito was beyond expectations as was the breakfast sandwich! So damn good. Lobster burger was massive, amazing and the sauce on it was exceptional! I was MOST excited about the fries bc they are fried in tallow and usually that means ULTRA perfect crispiness… but the fries were a total disappointment. Not crispy, most were actually soft. We were the first customers so maybe the oil wasn’t hot enough…??? When the server asked how I liked them bc I had said how excited I was & I shared I expected them to be crispy she just said, well, some people know to ask for them crispy if that’s how they want them…. Really?!?? What a weird reply. But overall, we were so happy to finally get to visit Calico Fish House on our trip to SoCal. So I’m not docking a star for the fries! Just be warned, if you like them something other than soft, you should probably tell the server that ahead of time.

Calico Fish House always has friendly service and great food. I can not recommend the short ribs and crab cake enough. The short ribs plate is among the best plates I've had at any restaurant. Also, Chef Gruel is gregarious and brings a lot of energy whenever he's there.

What a great looking place, it was perfect outside for a summer evening. Unfortunately the service was very slow and quite inattentive. We were at the bar and there was only 3 other people there and it still took about 15 minutes to get a drink. And no the bartender wasn't making any other drinks for customers seated at tables. It was nice not to be rushed during dinner, but the wait staff could be more attentive at bringing a plate for the lobster shells and more cocktail sauce as asked. Definitely could have gotten another drink out of me has she appeared before the main course came out. The food was amazing from the shrimp and poke on the seafood platter to my scallops and mushrooms dinner. Definitely will be going back to try more items. Enjoy, just don't be in a hurry.

Google
Great casual place to hang out and enjoy fresh seafood. Great menu- choice of fish and 1 side entree is highly recommended! Unusual sides - creative lobster dishes- cocktails, wine, beer, bar, outdoor seating, table service, beautiful- landscape of flowers outside. Our server, Rylee, couldn't have been more helpful! - our meals were great. but we didnt like the lobster dip and homemade chips. chips were too plain and dip felt just like a mayonnaise sauce, also lacking flavor.

Google
Appetizers were very good. The scallops were extremely well prepared and delicious. The lobster roll has an artesian flare and is also tasty.

Google
Nice restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating across from sunset beach. The outdoor seating has shade and windscreens so there is insulation from PCH road noise. There is a good selection of fresh fish. The calamari was fresh and cooked nicely. The lobster roll had a good amount of lobster. The mahi mahi and grilled veggies were also well prepared. The halibut was a bit overcooked but overall the restaurant was worth visiting and an enjoyable experience.

We ate here for the first time on Mother's Day. What a great experience. Friendly staff, and a laid back vibe. I had the Wellington, which was a special. It was amazing. My wife had the scallops, which were also fantastic. We also tried the Lobster deviled eggs, the bread with lobster butter, and the lobster dip with house-made chips. All of it was delicious. Chef Gruel and his wife, Lauren have created an amazing place here. They're fantastic people and this restaurant is going to be around for a long time. Highly recommend for a date night or any lunch or evening out.

Google
We were in Cali for 3 days and this was hands down the best meal we enjoyed in our entire stay!!! Topped off with a lemon drop martini it was heaven! The outdoor patio was fabulous and the weather was perfect. The wait staff is top notch. We travel with our little teacup Yorkie and the waiter offered a bowl of water to our baby without being asked! We hope to visit again in the future. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Calamari was great, fish tacos were awesome and the poke bowl was the best I ever had. Great attentive service.

Yelp
There isn't anything I've tried that I haven't loved. Food is amazing, service is great! Manny always makes a point to check in. Brian is a great chef. They make us feel right at home. We will keep coming back!

Yelp
We have drove by a thousand times and never really paid much attention. My wife saw a mention of the chef is collecting bottled water, pet food, clothing, and other items for those affected by the L.A fires. We decided to give this a try to show our support for this business supporting others in a time of need. I'm glad we did, the food was good and the menu looked good. They do have a weekend brunch menu too. My wife had the garlic shrimp and veggies and I had the fish and chips. The batter was nice and crunchy with no soggyness. Service was great too. As we left, the line of cars in the parking lot to donate goods was impressive. It helped restore our faith in humanity. Thank you to Calico, the volunteers, and the community. My wife and I look forward to returning and having dinner there soon. Food, service, and ambiance was 4 stars and review bumped up to 5 stars for their charitable efforts.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, the best Cioppino evah!! My husband and I were looking for red clam Chowder on a cloudy day. It turns out that Calico does not have the red clam chowder. My husband and I decided to try to Cioppino. We split the dish since he had a cold. Geez, the serving size was huge, the kitchen was nice enough to split into two bowls. The sauce was just the right amount of spice. It's spicy but that's what we like. The service was great. We were greeted immediately, seated and the waitress was wonderful. The host went out of his way to light the outside heater since it was chilly outside. The waitress was very interactive, stopped by the table frequently and engaged in conversation. I highly recommend , we will be back!! Sorry no pictures, we were hungry!

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night, the inside is quite small but they have a bar and patio with heater. We ordered Lobster burger and Cioppino. Both were good and flavorful. Serving size is big. Service is great and the employees were friendly.

Yelp
Restaurant has a parking large parking lot for guests. Staff greets you upon arrival and seats you immediately. Staff is helpful and makes great suggestions. They have booths and bar seating indoor and they have tables outdoor for seating as well. During my visit I did notice gnats near the restroom door and also near the booth I was sitting at. I managed to get rid of a few during my dining but this did interrupt my visit. Garlic Shrimp- 6/10 The shrimp in this dish didn't have a present garlic taste. This dish did need some salt as it was a bit under seasoned. The rice was the only item on this plate that had flavor. Fish and Chips- 7/10 Portion size was great. This dish was also missing salt. We asked for more lemon wedges to give this dish some flavor. Disco Fries- 6/10 These are similar to poutine. The fries were unseasoned and the gravy was missing salt. The food portion was great. The dishes would have been better if they were seasoned appropriately.

Yelp
I've been wanting to check out Calico for a long while now. I love that they use good oils instead of seed oils. They also have very fresh seafood. I went here for the first time on a Friday for lunch with one other person. We were quite hungry so we ended up sharing some calamari, clam chowder, disco fries and a wedge salad. We also shared some cioppino. My favorites was the clam chowder, wedge salad, and calamari. The other items were okay. The clam chowder was very flavorful and came with some delicious bacon pieces on top. The wedge salad was very nice. And the calamari was lightly battered and seasoned perfectly. Yum. I also liked the disco fries. The was whatever. I had some recently at another restaurant and this was too much veggies compared. It also lacked some flavor. But overall not bad. They have happy hour and taco tuesday. I do want to come back to check out those specials. Regular pricing is pretty normal for seafood. The service was alright. They were a little slow and we were trying to find someone for awhile to get the check and some containers for our left overs. Then it took awhile to pay as well. The inside is very casual and there is a nice outdoor patio. I do want to check back and bring the dog. Overall, it was a good option the area and I would come back to try other items.

Yelp
We came here on a Thursday night for my nephew's birthday. You can only make reservations if your party is 8 or greater. Plenty of parking and interior is really clean. I wish I got the name of our server because she was PHENOMENAL. She made the experience so much better. The food was already really good, but seriously, everyone there was so nice. Our orders: - Soft and salty rolls with lobster butter: comes with 5 rolls. Highly recommend. That lobster butter is like crack sauce. My mom used it for everything - Clam chowder: it was alright - Fish and chips: get it - Grand seafood tower: this has been, by far, the best deal for a seafood tower I have found in OC. If someone has a better recommendation, please tell me. $130 and you get SO MUCH food. It is actually filling. Our party of 6 actually had to take some of the lobster home to go.

Yelp
We visited CFH on a recent visit to the area based on the strength of the great food and experience we had at Andrew Gruel's Slapfish. Unfortunately, the two menu items we ordered were mediocre at best. I ordered the fish tacos ($18.50 for two), expecting a plate of fresh, hot, flaky white fish with amazing toppings like you find at many small family-owned restaurants all over Southern California. Instead, they arrived cold and with flat, apparently from frozen, oily pieces of fish that were absolutely inedible. This was probably the worst pieces of fish I've ever had anywhere. Boyfriend ordered the fish sandwich ($16, served with fries) with the same terrible fish, but luckily for him, the sandwich was mostly just cold slaw with hardly any fish on it. Maybe our mistake was ordering the fish grilled instead of fried? Regardless, I can't believe this was served to anyone. Service was not good as the place was not busy and we waited 20-30 minutes for our food to arrive, and it was cold when it was served, which indicates that it sat there while our server was off doing something else. When the server asked me how my uneaten food was, I was honest and told her it was terrible. Boyfriend was hungry, so he ate his, but said it was awful. I ate some of the fries, but could not and would not eat the tacos. I had a terrible taste of awful fish in my mouth all the way home from just one bite. (I eat fish daily, and have a close to pescatarian diet, so I am familiar with all kinds of fish and seafood). The manager, Manny, came over to talk with us. He took the tacos off the bill, and offered to give us complimentary food if we would come back. He was very nice, even following us out of the restaurant to apologize and ask us to come back. The one star is only for him. Everything else gets zero stars. Maybe the other dishes are better, but this experience was very disappointing for a seafood restaurant with premium prices. The food and service really need to improve.

Yelp
Spacious and classy dining space with casual outside deck for enjoying the weather I hade clam chowder and fish and chips. I especially like the clam chowder: perfect texture with ample selection of clam chunks Fish and chips was good but nothing special. The chips had a stale oil scent Large parking lot. Service was professional and efficient Nice bar area for another time

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch, food was great, possibly the best lobster roll I've ever had. The side salad was fresh and delicious, the roll was full of flavor and the bun perfectly toasted. The patio was nice although the music was a bit odd at times (some 80's really deep cuts, that maybe should be left in the 80's) Waitress and all staff was very friendly. Will definitely come again, will try and do dinner to try the fish

Yelp
Our first visit to Calico on Taco Tuesday. The lobster taquitos and churros were on the TT menu. We also ordeeed the hot fried fish fingers and disco fries. All the four dishes were absolutely delicious. They don't use any seed oils which is wonderful. We wanted to support the Gruels with what they're doing to help the fire victims since we're both injured at this time to volunteer. Servers and staff are nice Nice open and airy restaurant with plenty of parking.

Yelp
Family gathering since Aunty Sue is visiting from Hawaii. Anyway, several of us ordered the Barramundi. All very please. Including me. The only difference being, I ordered a side of sautéed wild mushrooms. Which weren't great. Seemed like all enoki? Perhaps some maitake? Anyway, they needed something. Overcooked. Maybe garlic? S&P? Butter? Should have taken a cue from the waiter and ordered the grilled vegetables (Zucchini, carrot, etc.). Several ordered the lobster roll. They raved about it. The East coast style roll was overflowing with lobster. Looked really good. Convinced my husband to order the fish & chips. MUCH better than the H.Salt type he usually orders. Big thick pieces of cod in a light almost no batter. He was SUPER pleased with this. The wait staff was VERY accommodating. Since there were 8 of us, we made reservations. The bar type seating in back would have fine if we didn't have an 80 & 92 yo ladies. They have a large round table to the east of the restaurant. Cozier. Felt as though we had our own little area. More suited to the 2 elderly gals in our party. Although we were not in the main area, the staff checked frequently. So we wanted for naught. Almost forgot the signature cocktails. Well made Paloma's & margaritas. Will be back with gfs. At least I'll get photos this time.

Yelp
We went to dinner here last night and all of the food was absolutely incredible. We started with calamari and a crab cake to share and for our entrees we had a poke bowl, ahi tuna steak, Cesar salad, and a lobster roll. We also shared a bottle of wine and two beers. We ended the meal with a slice of chocolate cake. All of the portion sizes were great for the price and our server Kayla was spectacular. The restaurant is located right on PHW in Sunset Beach and has a great patio with stringed market lights. It was a chilly night and they turned on a heater to make sure we were comfortable. This is definitely being put in our regular rotation. Absolutely loved it.

Yelp
Get restaurant that doesn't use seed oils, which is amazing. They fry everything in beef tallow. Manuel was so friendly and attentive, and was willing to explain the menu to us. Justine was very accommodating of my dietary restrictions and was able to split the plates for us. Very cute inside as well.

Yelp
I've been fortunate enough to visit a number of tasty eatery places lately (I hope I did not jinx myself) and Calico Fish House was no exception and fulfilled our taste bud desires. I was originally quite annoyed with this business because I had reached out in three different ways. I tried calling several times for it to go straight to voicemail. (Yes, I did call while business was open) I also reached out through messages on Yelp and through the site to see if they could take reservations for a party of seven. I saw that they answered another individual last year that at that time they were only doing it for parties of eight or more. That answered my question, but it would have been nice to have even one response through any of these methods. Fast forward three weeks later and six of us ended up coming. I told the group that we could just go at opening and it shouldn't be an issue. We also lucked out because there is pretty much no parking in this area on a Saturday in the middle of summer, but Calico Fish House has their own parking lot in their own section and people actually seemed to obey that and not park there to go elsewhere. Success! This business is smaller than I expected from the looks of the outside so do take a gamble on that. The inside is small and the outside has a nice sized patio. We opted for the patio. We started with three Blackberry Sage Lemonades, The Lou, and two iced teas, paired with some lobster deviled eggs and their famous Soft and Salty Lobster Butter Rolls. So tender, flavorful, and delicious! I loved my Blackberry cocktail as well! We ordered a number of entrees including the Citrus Crusted Salmon, Shrimp Baguette, Fish Tacos, a Sweet and Spicy Poke Bowl, Disco Fries, Angry Lobster Pockets, and regular fries. All items came out piping hot with a beautiful presentation. I really wanted the poke bowl myself but I don't do spicy. I did love my salmon though. There were no complaints from anyone at the table about any of the items. We polished off and demolished all of the items, except for some regular fries we couldn't finish. The service in person more than made up for my little issue in the beginning. Our server was wonderful and all staff was extremely friendly and very attentive. I noticed them walk by many times and glanced at our table to look for anything we might possibly need. I highly recommend Calico Fish House and I hope to return real soon.

Yelp
Ate here with my boyfriend a two times, each time the service wasn't great. We ordered a dozen oysters, not realizing that Fanny Bay oysters currently have a CDC advisory to not eat due to norovirus outbreak. Called them to let them know that my boyfriend and I are both very sick from it, so that they can inform other customers and take it off their menu for now... but the worker was rude and hung up on us. I wont go into details about the symptoms b/c you can google it but it wiped us out for a few days. As a restaurant, it would be important to follow up on current outbreaks and protect consumers... We weren't looking for any compensation but it feels like money is more important to them.

Yelp
I followed Chef Gruel on X a year or so ago, and signed up for his Substack, so I we were looking forward to visiting his place. And we weren't disappointed. Came in on a Thursday for lunch and ordered, among other things, his bacon-wrapped "lobster dog." Delicious and different. Ditto the grilled hamachi collar, a new thing to me. Returned on Saturday late afternoon, and manager Manny recognized us, came over, chatted, and suggested their cioppino. We had become instant "regulars." Love that in a restaurant. We'll be back. BTW, everything was fresh, and they don't even have any seed oils in the kitchen.

Yelp
We came here because of the sustainable menu offerings. The fish and chips were excellent. The fish was piping hot and batter was crispy. Our server was very attentive. We were practically the only customers however. This place is pretty empty for lunch hour on Monday. Chips were extra crispy as well. My wife ordered the salmon which she found a bit dry however.

Yelp
Unbelievable dining experience. The food was amazing and our server, Brittany, couldn't have been better. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could have ordered and eaten even more I asked some questions about spice level and she steered me in the right direction. She answered all our questions, helped with recommendations and tips, and did it all with a big warm smile. And the food was AMAZING. No seed oils in 2024 is so rare and so nice. I knew I had to get something with fries so I could have some tallow fries, so I got the flat iron frites. Came with a fresh salad with a house made white vinaigrette that was bright and delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and the pan sauce was delicious. But my oh my were the tallow fries good. I don't think I'll be able to order fries elsewhere for a while, I know they aren't anywhere near as good as Calico's We also got the scallops, cooked perfectly and delicious. They came with surf and turf tots that we loved too Oh and we got some apps, the crab cake and the hot fried fish fingers. Both were amazing, and the fish fingers had just the right amount of kick for me. I wish I got a picture of the fish fingers but they looked so good I just dove right in And then we got churros for dessert, once again they were delicious I left so full, but since everything was quality ingredients and no seed oils I didn't feel that 'heavy' or 'ughh' kind of full. I already recommended this restaurant to all my friends who live in the area Thank you Calico

Yelp
Food was so good! I tried to take a photo of the calamari but it ended up getting torn up before we intended. We had the tenderloin, the sea bass, salty rolls, ceviche, and for dessert the peanut butter cookies and ice cream. Ambiance is causal but trendy! Love it here. Service was also great. Kayla & Manuel were kind and helpful as it was our first time here. Food came out quick and they were super attentive. We definitely will be returning! Calico is great!

Yelp
1st time having dinner here! Great spot to catch the sunset too! We got a few shareable plates for the three of us! Came on a Tuesday... to our surprise--there were taco Tues specials! Taco Tues menu: Lobster Taquitos & $5 Margaritas! A must order: Soft & Salty Rolls W/ Lobster Butter (all about the butter!). Everything we ordered was good too, such as: Clam Chowder, Fanny Bay Oysters, Lobster Deviled Eggs & Crab Cake! We want to come back to try other food on the menu! Waitstaff was also very attentive!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally got to try this gem! I ordered the lobster roll and was pleased with the amount of fresh lobster that was piled in the lightly toasted roll. It was perfectly flavored where you can taste the lobster with each bite. I do like lemon and extra butter so did request a side of that. The fresh side salad with vinaigrette dressing paired very well with the roll. I would definitely choose this as my go to spot for a good lobster roll that's comparable to the East coast! I loved how their menu offered plenty of options for the whole family. We also enjoyed the ambience of the patio and was the perfect place to enjoy lunch on a sunny day. We will definitely be back to try more!

Yelp
Tried some new things this time. The chips and lobster dip was good. The potato chips are nice and homemade. The dip is rather creamy, not chunky. It's also a cold dip. The lobster deviled eggs were good but almost too saucy. They nicely prepped the yolks to be creamy. But then they also drizzled an aioli on top which I felt was unnecessary. The disco fries (aka Poutine) was great as always. I was sure to ask for extra gravy. That gravy is so nice and boldly flavored. In fact I could imagine them making a wonderful French Onion soup by taking the same approach they do with their beef gravy. That would be cool. The citrus crusted salmon had a nice sauce. While the salmon was not overcooked, it was cooked well done. We requested it to be cooked underdone because salmon can get dry easily. I don't think our request made it to the kitchen. The asparagus was incredibly flavorful as though it was poached in a nice stock. The baby potatoes were fine but would have been better if they were tossed in garlic butter. We brought our own bottle of wine which was accommodated nicely. Unfortunately they ran out of their awesome Harland Lager beer. The citrus blonde ale was good. I preferred it over the Four Sons Calico Lager.

Yelp
Raul was the only server working on this Taco Tuesday and I never would have known. His service and timing was excellent. He was a very pleasant server to work with. Sitting on the outside patio with shelter from the wind and optional headlamps was very nice. Inside interior is more upscale with a nice bar but not a ton of dining tables. Coming on Tuesday during their Social Hour gave us so many options. We started with oysters for $1!!! They were so good and fresh. Then we slowly moved on to a $5 cheeseburger medium rare cans lightly charred to perfection with a tasty bun also with grill marks. It was sooooo good and I'm not always a burger gal. We shared the mini lobster ($10) and I think it was my hubby's first experience with one. He like it so much that we next went with the lobster taquitos which... wow. Crispy and yet not drying out the lobster inside with a nice sauce that didn't overwhelm the lobster flavor. But we kept on going. The braised short rib taco at $4 on the Social Hour menu was a "should we get another one?" And since we were on a first. Is it trying everything we could, we had a grilled fish taco that was cooked just right and finished off with churros. Ice cream and a mix of chocolate and strawberry purée made these churros exceptional. We will be back. Please don't all come on Tuesdays or we won't for a table.

Yelp
It was really good! I'll tell you why the 4 stars versus the 5 stars later. As for the restaurant itself. It's super easy to find and ample parking. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The service is pretty great! And everyone is so nice. I accompanied someone who is a frequent visitor of this location. I just let him order for us. He looked like he knew what he was ordering. Don't worry NON sea food lovers. There is a variety of dishes one can order. And they are all made with amazing flavor and talent. 5 stars for service and food. Definitely order the rolls and lobster butter. You will enjoy it. But if you don't like lobster the rolls by themselves are bomb. Reason for 4 stars: out of almost every beer on a Sunday evening. I believe we attempted to order 4 separate beers and they were out of every single one. I am sure this is NOT the norm. It was a one off. But other than that. This place is great. I will be back for sure. Also, veterans. You get a discount. So throw down that ID and get that discount!

Yelp
Not gonna lie. I'm always pretty skeptical of this place just because anyone that's lived here as long as I have knows that this has been about five or six different restaurants over the course of the last 20 years. It looks like these guys have actually figured it out though. The ambience is clean, friendly and welcoming. Menu is simple yet has quite a few options. We went with the fish tacos and they were good. Not amazing but very good. Will we go back? Sure
google avatar

Yelp
Social hour? Yes!!! The best happy hour!! That burger, oh my! The oysters! That is not your run of the meal garden salad. Look at all that lobster stuffed in that to die for roll! And to top it off you guys never disappoint in service. Always super friendly.

Yelp
Great service and food! We went on a Tuesday and they had a great taco Tuesday menu ($5 lobster taquitos and margaritas!) We also had the lobster burger, crab cakes, and fish and chips....all amazing! Our waitress was super sweet and attentive and the chef even came out to check on us. Prices were very reasonable....Overall a great experience!!!!!

I got the bacon hamburger last week and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants quality food.

Yelp
Thank you for supporting the community affected by the fires. Bless you and your restaurant, take care!

Elsa M.

Yelp
We have been here several times, everything has always been fantastic. From the moment you get there, the staff is friendly. It is clean and food is served in a timely matter. Prices are very reasonable, not pricy at all. I personally love the ceviche and the lobster dip. For breakfast the lobster burrito is great. Manuel is always making sure you are satisfied with the plates and everything in general. Great place!!! Just come and have a good time

Yelp
What a great place! We used to dine here before it changed ownership and name. We tried getting a table a couple times before but too crowded and there was a wait. We dined here yesterday and so glad we did! The lobster roll is delicious, with a generous helping of lobster meat. The salad was tasty with a house dressing vinaigrette. My husband had the garlic shrimp plate and said his was awesome! Staff is very friendly and looking forward to many more meals at Calico.

Yelp
We absolutely love coming to this spot, it's along our path to the dog beach & they have a pet friendly patio (that could use a few extra shade triangles & puppy water bowls would be great). They have great tasting fish food items, so if that's your jam, check it out! The waiters are always pretty friendly, quick & attentive to all guests! Wait times have never been an issue, even the one time we did wait, it was for the shortest time ever! We always get the lobster deviled eggs, they're an interesting taste. We have tried the ball things that have shrimp in them & those are good as well, just a different flavor that's not as expected. I can't help it and NEVER deviate from the lobster roll because it's just always spot on, usually fries & those are amazing. I went with a salad this time & the dressing had a weird mayonnaise taste to it, not my favorite. Ahi steak is one of their recommended items & it has been phenomenal every time we have gotten it, tacos are up there too!

Jessica V.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful first time experience here. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter, Matt, was attentive and friendly. Chef Manny even came by our table, and his friendliness added a personal touch to our visit. He made us feel very welcome. He was more than happy to go over the menu and his personal favorites. He also shared with us his story and love for the restaurant. He definitely deserves a Michelin star for the food and experiences he creates. The food was absolutely delicious--my lobster roll was a perfect 10/10, and my husband enjoyed his poke bowl. We're already looking forward to coming back, especially to check out their Taco Tuesday!

This place is awesome! We were a big group of 8 who stumbled across this spot on Saturday for lunch. The wait was around 25 minutes because they only had one big indoor table. Our servers were very accommodating, answered all our questions, and provided recommendations. The seafood here was cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed the lobster roll. The portions are very generous.

Yelp
Great restaurant and the staff is very attentive. We went for happy hour and they have the best oysters. The lobster roll was also phenomenal. We will be back to try out the regular menu. Great Job Chef Andrew! Happy Yelping!

Yelp
We really enjoyed this restaurant. My sister-in-law recommended it. She has significant dietary restrictions. They utilize no seed oils in the preparation of their food. To start we ordered a few orders of their bread, which were phenomenal. The rolls were huge and topped with an everything bagel type of seasoning and served with lobster butter. We ordered the salmon and the fish and chips for our entrées The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The batter utilized on the fish was light and crispy similar to a tempura style. My sister-in-law got the salmon which was prepared to her liking and dietary restrictions. It's nice to know that there's a restaurant that you can go to that accommodates strict dietary guidelines with great flavor. We sat outside on the patio. It was chilly outside, but they had heaters going which kept us comfortable the entire time. Our service was great from the time we walked in the door until the time we left. Everyone was very engaging and friendly. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for the great food, service and very clean environment.

Yelp
Impeccable service and food with cleaner ingredients than most with similar menu items. Would come here whenever I have friends in town that want something more hearty yet won't make you feel like absolute crap. Also in a beautiful area with a great view of the beach!

Yelp
This place was a miss for my double date. My fish tacos were good but everyone else's fish was overcooked. 1/4 on the meals gives this a 1/4 for me. The atmosphere was sort of chipotle or Baja Fresh.. like order at the front seat yourself vibe. They had alcohol and it's close to the beach and had ample parking. We wouldn't be back. It's pretty hard to mess up fried fish tacos with chipotle crema so it wasn't a huge win for me. Unfortunately overcooking fish is a huge no and for the cost you can essentially go just about anywhere else and get it for the same price better cooked

Yelp
The wife and I finally tried this place. Did not disappoint. She had the seafood Ramon and I had sea bass. We both liked our meals. Big portions. We both took food home. Great service. Patio dog friendly. Will be back.

Yelp
Had suuuuch a great lunch here the other day for my bday weekend! My boyfriend got the lobster cheeseburger which he took half home and ate the whole thing so fast! He said it was soooo filling but suuuper good! I got the fried shrimp bahn mi sandwich; I ended up just eating the shrimp and toppings and ditching the baguette all together (too many carbs), but the shrimp was soooo delicious! We will DEFINITELY be back soon! Thanks again Calico!

Yelp
Place is easy to find. It's very clean and every single person there genuinely greeted my kiddos. They were treated with kindness and care, which is very important to me. The food though. Omg. It was out of this world. I love that they use Melissa's produce and they don't use seed oils - I asked the server and she said instead they use tallow and avocado oil. AMAZING. My kids went to town on the calamari. And my husband and I had the lobster roll and the lobster burger. They also have a solid beer selection. DEFINITELY coming back.

Yelp
I recently visited Calicos with my partner and our dog, and we had a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was friendly and welcoming. We were seated on the patio, which was pleasant and warm, perfect for an enjoyable meal outdoors. Calicos takes pride in sourcing their produce locally, specifically from Melissa's Produce in Southern California, and they avoid using seed oils, which is a significant plus for health-conscious diners. We visited on Taco Tuesday and decided to try a variety of items from the menu. We ordered two shrimp tacos, two fish tacos, and two lobster taquitos. While the taquitos were good, we found the tacos a bit underwhelming and could have done without them. However, the highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Rockefeller oysters. They were perfectly prepared, with a delightful crunch added by nuts, making them an exceptional dish. Overall, our experience at Calicos was positive, thanks to the friendly service, pleasant outdoor seating, and a commitment to quality ingredients. We look forward to returning, especially for more of those amazing Rockefeller oysters.
