Yelp
"Cheers to 10 years"
My partner & I noticed it almost immediately. Printed on t-shirts, hanging on the wall, right next to the entrance. It seemed like quite the coincidence.
Believe it or not, once upon a time, Yelp flexed some serious muscle & occasionally put on 4 consecutive days of multiple events in cities all across the U.S.: Las Vegas, New Orleans, Nashville, Ft. Lauderdale, San Diego, San Antonio...
& 10 years ago, on October 1st, it was South Lake Tahoe's turn with "Yelp's Tahoe Getaway." The kickoff to that 4-day weekend was right here at California Burger*. We were here, too. Apparently, California Burger, itself, had also just opened earlier that year.
We'd come back, 10 years later, to pick the nostalgia berries of that serendipitous day. Even after all that time gone by, we were amazed how the place still looked so familiar. Greeted by staff, we relayed our Yelp tale.
Pleasant conversation & reminiscing with servers & a manager followed, while we noshed on a fried pickles appetizer & I enjoyed a beer. It felt good to be back.
So much so, that we came back again a couple days later for Happy Hour. Service was, again, welcoming & friendly. We shared a fried chicken sandwich & some Beer Battered Sidewinders. It was all yum & decent value at HH pricing.
A lot can change in 10 years. Yelp hasn't done a 4-day events extravaganza in many years. But much at California Burger is as it was, which was nice to see. So, in more ways than one, I say, "cheers to 10 years."
