Vaccines Are Available to Street Vendors But Access Remains a Challenge | Eater LA

"A university-based vaccination site was reported by observers to be relatively lax about checking industry-specific proof, so some informal food workers and street vendors found it easier to receive vaccines there compared with stricter locations." - Mona Holmes

Campus is due for a renovation! Just ugly. But the BSW program? I see why it is among the top rated programs for aspiring Social Workers!

Google
The only good thing about this university is that it's has a train plantform connected it making it flexible to commute from the LA Union Station to the campus; that why I picked this university to finish most of bachelor credits, but the most absurd part of the university is enrollment process. All newly accepted student are required to attend orientation, and have to pay a fee around 110 dollars, you don't get a lot out of orientation experience, last years orientation, me, and the newly accepted students in my group got a free T CSULA shirt, and an opportunities to dine in the village dinning hall , that wasn't the case this year, all we got is was a pocket folder handed to us, and a bowl of penne pasta. One thing to quickly note for people who want to consider enrolling this school make sure you register, and enroll for classes in your first two semesters or you be required to re attend orientation again. That what happened in my case.

Google
Great! I was sooo lucky to have great teachers who guide my learning ❤️ + I also enjoyed working with many of my friends and got many more while attending CASULA❤️

Google
Obligatory not a student here, but I went on the Summer Transport Institute put together by Dr. Hashemian, who was very kind and friendly towards us all! Especially liked how modern the whole place looked, as well as the food of the cafeteria!

Though the workers are very nice, they've noticeably gotten very stingy when it comes to giving out drinks. Even when asked for extra inclusions, they never do it and you always have to remind them that you asked for extra. Nice place, but you certainly don't get your bang for your buck.

Google
thank goodness i’m leaving to a different school. i’m grateful for all the wonderful professors i had and for being accepted into this university. unfortunately, i immediately noticed that this school wasn’t for me as soon as it was my orientation. i’ve honestly never disliked school until i came here, which makes me upset because i love to learn. i feel like the admin don’t care about student life and involvement. they don’t push for a community. the school is also not well kept. so many overgrown plants and bushes, rust stained floors, missing ceiling tiles, month-long broken elevators, leaking ceilings, etc. there are literal abandoned buildings on campus. they do not provide the right resources to learn. why am i learning about news anchoring in 25 people capacity room with have it being used by the equipment in the music building where the next room id playing hot cross buns. is that really the best they could do? my high school in an underfunded city a better recording room. its embarrassing and gives highschool vibes.

After transferring from ELAC I did almost 3 years at CSULA and I got my Bachelor of Science. I got help whenever I needed from faculty, financial aid and other resources inside the campus. I was able to met great friends and professors too. There is always activities to do inside the campus, every semester they do orientations for new students, often you get emails regarding anything related to our education and campus. I really had a great time when I was student here and now I'm planning to come back to get my Masters degree.

If you're looking for a quality education you won't find it here. Not all programs are equal and you'll definitely find a higher quality education somewhere else.

Yelp
really good food and i really liked the atmosphere of the campus and the environment is welcoming.

Yelp
Why does this Cal State campus make me sad? This campus is old. The library is dreary and dark. The buildings all over the campus is old inside and outside. You can see dilapidated vertical blinds from the outside, exposing the dirty offices in the inside. The student union is nicely renovated, but that's about it. The perimeter of the campus is not a good neighborhood. You're in East LA, so you see a lot of graffiti and I don't feel safe hanging around here at all.

Yelp
Transferred here during the lingering effects of the pandemic. (Fall 2021) My first year was fully remote and 2nd year was starting to go back in-person. Graduated during Summer 2023. Parking was $220 + Sales Tax during Fall/Spring semesters. Winter/Summer are a bit cheaper. As a business major, professors here in my experience weren't the best. Rarely you'll get a highly knowledgeable professor with legit experience in the field you're studying in. Some professors just make me wonder how in the world they get to teach in the first place. For example, we had an HR professor making us type 10 page essays every week with no substance to it. Overall: I did enjoy my experience here. I did what I can in those 2 years, 1 year being remote. Worked here as a SA. There's definitely a lot of improvements needed to be made. From school initiatives, in-house internships, old buildings that need to be replaced, library study room filled with mold, administration-student relationships etc. Students should be more engaging here and I just didn't get the vibe here in most classes. My recommendation if you're considering going here is to do as much research as you can and try your best to foster self-initiatives and join clubs or work on campus. Key Takeaways: - CSULA is a commuter school so expect many students to not being sociable or engaging. Many friends I've talked to who went here agreed on the same thing. - Lots of politics - CSULA is conveniently located by the I-710 and I-10 freeways. - Food Court consist of Fast Food (El Pollo Loco, Carl's Jr., Panda Express etc) (Not many food choices near by campus) - Old buildings. Some with mold on them or elevators not working. - WiFi Connection in Salazar Hall or King Hall may be weak for some.

Yelp
I like it here a lot!! Five stars is exactly my total rating!!!! Thank you all so much for everything!!

Yelp
The book store hours are a complete joke! Are you serious? 4 1/2 hours a day ? For a college campus ? What the f***!!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm completing my masters here and I had such high hopes in the beginning. So far the professors seem okay no complaints there BUT the buildings? The wifi sucks and the ac in Salazar Hall + King Hall barely work. Especially in King Hall. How do they want to continue to raise tuition and not offer adequate buildings? They're so outdated. There are a lot of adjunct professors, I actually think all of my professors are adjunct this semester. Be careful with parking there's never clear signage on what lot is designated to what. You'll get a ticket for unknowingly parking in the teachers designated lot. Thankfully, it isn't a struggle to find parking, or maybe because my classes are really early? I don't know but I don't struggle to park. The library has a graduate center in the basement it's nice to use because it's quieter. There are several food options- El Pollo Loco, Sabarro, Starbucks, Panda, Carls Jr. Plenty of seating as well throughout the campus.

Yelp
09/14/2020 Testing facility on campus for Covid-19 is free. As a precaution, I am getting this test but does that mean additional exposure to potential patients waiting at the same time to get tested when I do know I am not positive? Requirements to stand 6 feet away and wearing your mask at all times. I think this location has the process down very well. If I need to test again, this is where I want to get my test.

Yelp
CSULA sucks. Just takes advantage of young Poor student.. takes their money and then can't produce. This university operates at elementary school hours making it impossible to get a degree in 2022 when most students have two jobs. Good luck

Yelp
My Goddaughter goes to school here. I like the support they give first generation college students.

Yelp
READ THIS OR YOU WILL REGRET. I am helping you... This review is not about CSULA, but this review is to help you against a crook cop. Be careful driving on Hellman Ave. The cop hides in intersection of Hellman ave and Ross ave, so he can give you a ticket for his monthly quota. He always does it toward the end of the month. The stakeout technique should be illegal. If you run 5 miles over the limit, he will ticket you. If you stop on the line at the stop sign, he will ticket you. As I said, it is his cash cow intersection.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this campus. They were offering COVID-19 testing at the Luckman Gallery. The campus looks like it's so well maintained and has a pleasant atmosphere walking around the area where we went to get tested.

Yelp
I received my BA and MA here at CSULA and I am a proud Golden Eagle. I feel that I received good quality of education here. I recently came back to visit CSULA with my students and I'm proud to see that they have some new things since I graduated. They have a green house with a lot of plants while I thought was pretty cool. They have new cafes inside the library which I thought was neat. In the food court, I remember waiting in long lines to get my food. Now you can order your food via an app & pick up your food there.

Yelp
Visited 7/6/2017 Compared to other universities, this place is definitely less expensive. I got my BS here many, many years ago, and I didn't have any issues with the school nor the program. I was working FT at the time, so coming here PT took longer to get my BS, but at least I accomplished it. These days, some of the courses are impacted which is unfortunate. My other daughter went to a private liberal college, and she didn't have any problem getting her classes. I like the campus. More greenery here compared to another Cal State campus that we visited. Definitely many nationalities here. I've visited a few campuses where it was predominately one nationality. We visited the dorms today, and it was a little disorganized. My daughter called before hand and we were told the dorm tour would be at 10:15. We arrived 10:10, and the tour started without us. The lady behind the desk was kind enough to help us find the tour guide. When we finally caught up with the group, as you can imagine, I wasn't very pleased. When I asked what happened, the student admitted that she did start early and she did appologize, but for future reference, please start ON TIME, NOT EARLY. When you say you are starting at 10:15, start at 10:15 PLEASE. With that being said, we looked at the room that we were allowed to see. It's a little dated. You can kind of tell that these were the same dorms that were used in the 84 Olympics. There can be 2-4 students in a room and only one bathroom to share. The laundry room had decent prices. The game room could use some work. The pool table cloth was torn. I liked the fact that there was a "quiet" room for studying in case you don't want to go to the library. Free wifi throughout the campus, if you are a student. Large library with many places to sit. Many lots to park at. Cost is less expensive than CSUN. Private parking lot for the dorms.

Yelp
Lazy school staff. 100 billion dollars, from taxes, that we are essentially paying for, and they still don't want to do work. Any other school is better than this one. It's trash and the people are lazy.

Yelp
I graduated here in December 2020. Worst learning institution I have ever been apart of, would not wish my worst enemy to obtain their education from here. Low professor standards, 0 administrative accountability. They just wish to line their pockets with their broke students cash in legit every way they can. If you have a very clear cut out issue pertaining to your enrollment, studies or finances, they will send you from office to office or phone line to phone line, all claiming its someone else's department that will assist you. Fucking sucks.

John M.

Yelp
I was told that the financial aid department was going to send me an email to let me know about the results of my application. They never sent me an email, but I instead had to call and ask if they accepted it. They accepted the application weeks prior to me calling them, they just didn't tell me like they said they would. Ironically, the very next day, they sent me an email letting me know that it was accepted and could be used. I was forced to rush to get my financial aid together, and get classes (only to not get any). Since I am a transfer student who was unable to attend classes on the first day I have to wait a whole year to get back into the school. They messed up, now I have to wait an entire year to try again. You have no idea how long that is until you have to wait a year, doing nothing, until you can get back into college. Even sending the teachers emails asking to get into the class did not help because they just told me to screw off and try again the following year even though they had openings. This is the worst policy that I have ever come across, and I hope they make changes to that because having your life on hold for a year because the school screwed up is pretty stupid. Also, lets hope you don't have to figure out where anything is because I spent 2 hours on campus looking for the Salazar Hall because nobody could tell me where it was, and all of the maps are upside down.

Yelp
This is a large campus, and I like how there are many ways to access it. I visited a friend that is a faculty member and it was fun. I was told this is a big commuter school; the location is great, right by the freeway.

Yelp
Hrmmm... what can I say about California State University, Los Angeles? It was the school I've attended many moons ago, and now when I went back just to check out a festival, I've noticed so many changes on campus! I have noticed new buildings erected during the years, a bit more landscaping, it seems to be a lot more artistic, and I saw a new parking structure... well, not so new anymore on F Lot. CSULA has always been known to be a commuting school. Most students who attends this university lives at home, and they work while attending school at the same time. The campus nowadays feels so much more like a campus with nice seating areas with umbrellas outside that are used by students to eat and study. I really like it. I also saw a new book store, and new student union, a confucius statue, an art walk, and basically an extreme campus facelift! When I use to attend school there, I did not have an urge, nor any reason to hang out around the campus because it was simply unappealing. I basically went to class right when it starts, and walk off campus right when it ends. Now, the campus is so much more student friendly and it has more of a university feeling inside as you walk around. Of course, I cannot say anything about the curriculum unless I attend class. But I hope the teachers are better, and the students are more absorbent to the teachings. Even though it still can't be compared to other campuses that are more vibrant, I feel CSULA has come a long way. I hope they invest more into their sports programs to attract and to move up the scale one day. Good luck to the students, and may God bless the campus!

Yelp
Loved the school I came from. Was fortunate enough to get two bachelors. One in bachelors of arts in psychology and a bachelors of science in computer information systems. Met a lot of good friends that I still have today. Saw a lot of things that improved and over the years, but it took so long to get a new student union. I think it took about 3 or 4 years to finish. When I ended it was being torn down and when I came back it was almost done. I know it's not the schools fault for the lack of funding for classes, but this is hurting the students more than anything. Prolonging their stay = taking longer for them to graduate and more students having to take out loans for tuition. Tuition is going up every quarter. In the perfect world, school should be free! Sorry for my rant!

Bryan M.

Yelp
Asked Prof Kimo Yap for help once but he refused to answer any questions. He said that he covered that topic in class which I attended. It is hard to hear him, his writing is hard to read, his lectures are disorganized and his tests are unreasonably difficult. Grade distribution report shows average GPA for his spring 2023 Chem 1040 class was only 0.71. Only 6 out of 67 got at least a C.

Yelp
I came here for a master's degree program in special education. My field is very small but I found the classes and professors supportive and helpful for my field. All of the classes are relevant toward your comprehensive exam to earn your master's and I've found the staff to be very supportive and helpful whenever I had questions. I think it really depends on your major. I've heard from other Cal State LA grads that they have also enjoyed their time there and are currently employed after receiving their education. My roommate also graduated from here and really liked her classes for the nursing field - she earned a bachelor's and master's here. Parking can be a hassle and make sure to watch the signs because you will get a ticket. Tickets aren't cheap and neither are parking permits but they are worth it. Make sure to give yourself at least an hour before your class to find parking, especially at the beginning and end of the semester. If you have classes during the middle of the day, parking seems to be much easier. I never had to use the off campus lot, but I always gave myself plenty of time to park. The office of disabilities was also hit or miss. They don't offer and support as many services as I would like but I was able to get extra time on testing so that is a bonus. The student health center seemed to be decent as well. Just make sure you have cash to pay for your visits. Overall, if you're looking for a budget friendly choice for a master's, you might want to look into Cal State LA.

Yelp
Amazing and welcoming university, but when I was taking the Level N5 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test here I didn't like the men's bathroom in the Hill building? The bathrooms were inside of the same building where we took the test and once there was a break in between sessions I had to go and I didn't like how crowded it was especially when there's no walls in between urinals. Me personally I don't like being too close to one I like to keep my distance, so because of that I was forced to wait til most of the guys were done and risked being late to the room I was assigned in. Would appreciate it if this school added walls in between urinals.

Yelp
Wow, I unfortunately have to give this university a 1 star review because of my experience with one professor: Dr. Susan Haynes. This woman made my Covid-19 online semester so unbearable. She constantly attacked my use of vocabulary, calling it "college talk", which is ridiculous because this is a university of higher learning. This attitude of hers clearly showed in her tests, where typos and incomplete sentences ran rampant. At one point during the semester, she locked the tests to prevent students from calling her out on her own errors. This was after an overwhelming amount of criticism in the classroom chat. She puts on a laconic attitude and doesn't like to grade assignments, her words by the way, and then will tease the class for making mistakes when she's not doing her job of vetting her own tests and assignments. It really does dampen the academic experience, especially considering the sacrifices I've made to attend this year. Look, I know this is a really negative review and other professors at the school were great, even the ones I didn't love, but nobody else made my educational experience so frustrating. I got an A in the class I took with Ms. Haynes, by the way, but it was a struggle in patience rather than a struggle in academic understanding to achieve this. I had hoped that such a well-known university would have done a thorough job of coaching their tenured professors, but it looks like Cal State LA didn't. My advice, if you have any interest in pursuing psychology, avoid Dr. Haynes like the rona.

Yelp
Went to file a report because my car was involved in a hit and run. Waited almost a whole hour to gain nothing from it. I was told they couldn't help me in anyway since I am filling a report the following day. (I was unaware that my car was hit til I arrived at my home). The female officer in particular was most unhelpful, gave a lot of attitude and was immensely rude and disregarding. All I was asking for was to view the camera footage in order to have proof of what happened to my car. Which she didn't want to provide because it's "against their policy since they have no proof".....I thought campus police is supposed to be helpful not completely useless.

Yelp
The experience varies depending on the program and departments. You would meet the same professors that teach at USC or UCLA while some programs are really corrupting. The parking situation was improved significantly last semester since they had a big structure finally. The new dorm and library are coming in few years and trying to upgrade the academic environment too. The location is good cause 15min away from DTLA without much traffic. Considering the cost, you cannot simply complain the downsides by comparing to private schools. Some students really work hard to study and others don't. I don't think I would say this school offers a typical college experience but I don't think they are trying.

Merissa O.

Yelp
Where do I begin? I graduated in May, 2018 with my B.A. in Communication Disorders. Most instructors in the field are very knowledgeable and helpful. They prepare you for the real world. I have more negative things to say about the department and the organization of it. I stressed myself so much when I couldn't get the required classes to take before enrolling in higher core classes. I found myself being put on waiting lists every semester and needing to crash multiple courses. There were few instructors who looked like they were ready to retire. One professor heavily relied on ancient anatomy text books and YouTube videos. Certainly had a poor attitude and was rude towards students. For the overall school, it was okay. It wasn't excellent. I felt like I could've had a better college experience. You'll meet tons of good people, but a lot of weird ones too since the school is easy to get into. I had paid full tuition to go full time one semester, and the student cashier put in the computer part-time and it affected my enrollment for classes. WARNING: keep all receipts because the student staff do make mistakes. The school makes sure to have their payments made on time, but never once did I get the classes I needed for the semester.

Yelp
Best RN BSN and NP MSN program in California. The clinical sites and professors are truly magnificent. I am a proud alumni and I am so happy of getting both degrees from this school. Now I get to do what I love for the rest of my life.

Yelp
Great school. We all know UCs and other privates may be more well known than Cal States, but I am 100% sure that Cal States are just as good, and could be even better than those other top tier colleges. I have not regret my decision for coming here! My professors are extremely helpful, and although this is located in ghetto LA and close to Alhambra, everyone are friendly and hard working. Not much difference between all colleges, it's just a place to study. Stop choosing schools just because of their name! Affordable and local college.

Anthony M.

Yelp
I have been noticing so many negative reviews about CSULA. But in my experience, I have learned so much when I took classes here. Professors here are outgoing, nice, and patient with their students. I graduated in the Spring of 2021 with full honors, and I do not regret attending at this university.

Yelp
As Alumni of 2014, how could I NOT be a Cal State LA fan?? I spent 3 long strenuous years in the nursing program here and proudly earned my Bachelor's. LOCATION & PARKING Located in East Los Angeles off the 10 Freeway before Alhambra. Even though there's several parking structures, finding parking can be frustrating. If you're a Full-Time student, get a Quarterly Student Parking Permit for $90 cuz you can park in almost any lot. If you're only on campus for a few hours, buy a Daily Parking Permit! $1 for 1 hour and 15 min $2 for 2 hours and 30-45 min? $6 for ALL Day **TIP: If you haven't bought a Student Parking Permit yet, BUY a Temporary Daily Permit cuz if not, YOU WILL GET A PARKING TICKET! Give yourself 2 hours on the FIRST day of school to find parking and if possible, go super early in the morning! SETTING Small, clean campus with buildings spaced out far from one another. Known as a "Commuter" school. Emergency posts are scattered around campus if you ever feel unsafe. **TIP: NEVER leave belongings (especially Laptops) unattended!!! Theft is a common problem on campus. Student Union - Lots of seating areas and electric outlets for studying and a computer lab. Sbarro Pizza if you get hungry. Cultural rooms on the 2nd floor, where students can study or eat since there are seating areas and microwaves. **TIP: FREE Blue Books or Scantrons if you ask on the 2nd Floor of Union! Student Health Center - Health exams, vaccinations, physicals, or dental/vision exams. Pharmacy also provides Birth Control among other medications. Bookstore - Extremely expensive textbooks! DO NOT BUY HERE! Cal State LA merchandise available like clothes, key chains, etc. Food, snacks, coffee, energy drinks, and a microwave available. **TIP: Buy textbooks Online from Amazon, Chegg, anywhere but the bookstore! CLASSES On a Quarter System: 10 weeks of class with the 11th for Finals. Getting classes is difficult! Register on your Priority Day immediately so you get classes! Adding a class is even harder cuz you have to petition and get the Professor's signature and approval from the specific department. **TIP: Tuition for Full-Time (12 units) was $1200-1500 a quarter. PAY your Tuition FIRST, otherwise you can't enroll in classes! TEACHERS Nursing faculty and administration were awesome. My Ethnicity teachers were enthusiastic, passionate, and fun. FOOD Food court across from Bookstore - El Pollo Loco, Carl's Jr., a Japanese spot, Rice Garden Chinese, and Johnny's Kitchen. **TIP: Tables are usually not clean and maintained, so beware! University Restaurant across from the Bookstore. Breakfast specials available and I believe they do serve Alcohol. Sbarro Pizza inside Student Union. Small Cafeteria in Salazar Hall with Sandwiches, Burritos, Salads, etc. - CASH ONLY! Coffee shop in Salazar Hall. Starbucks near the Student Union, but there's always a super long line. McDonald's, Burger King, a Donuts place and Baskin Robbins near campus. **TIP: For better and more food options, go on Valley and hit up Alhambra! Overall, Cal State LA is a great school and I enjoyed my experience here. The teachers successfully prepared me for my career and the classmates I met became great friends. Seven months after graduating, I finally landed my dream job at one of the Best hospitals in SoCal! Thank you Cal State LA! Cuz I owe a lot of that to You!

Yelp
My cousin got graduated from this university and got a job right after graduating. This place provides excellent education. Campus is well maintained. Good number of departments. Hostel is clean. Location is convenient. Many places to visit that are not very far. This place help achieving your goals.

Yelp
Came here for credentials and Grad school. Worked well with my commute and full time job. This is totally a commuter school and they make it convenient for people looking for a place to go to school and who work full time at the same time. Tuition and parking are costs that continue to inflate each year. So that's something to consider but you can expect that from everywhere. Some of the facilities are a little dated but they function. I have to say my education in Grad school was extremely helpful. Bottom line: if your looking for a school where you can pay as you go, stay out of debt, and be able to work full time too, CSULA is an option.

Yelp
Note, this is a review for the Fine Arts Gallery at Cal State LA not for the university, itself. My visit here was my first time on this campus for the opening night reception for the Legacies art show exhibition that is running through the end of this month that my uncle, Ben Sakoguchi, is one of the 15 featured artists in as an alumni of this college. My uncle did a one year sabbatical here post graduating from UCLA with an art degree. He is also retired as an art professor from Pasadena City College. I have been to many art galleries on college campuses to attend art show opening night receptions that my uncle has shown in over a span of many years he has been an artist. This one here at Cal State LA was, by far, one of the nicest and well run ones I have been to. The curator and staff here at the college did a fantastic job on putting together the 15 artist exhibition and displaying their works in this smaller-sized gallery. All the staff I came into contact here were just so very nice and helpful. The opening night reception catering staff and bar staff should be highly commended as well as the small jazz band ensemble that provided entertainment here at the reception. The food and drinks provides here were really top notch for a college art reception. The catering staff and bar staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. The band provided nice background music for the outdoor part of the reception, also. My immediate family, to include my uncle showing here, were very impressed with everything about this art show opening night reception. I talked with some other people attending this reception who wholeheartedly agreed. I am so very proud of what my uncle has achieved as a professor and artist. It is awesome to be able to attend one of the art shows that he is featured in that are free to attend and very well curated and ran. Kudos to all the staff here at the university that did a great job in putting this show together.

Yelp
Eh, about 2.5 stars. I want to quote my friend by telling you that she said that Cal State Los Angeles is "at the bottom of the food chain" and it is so true. You can't expect much from a bottom of the food chain type of school now (wish I learned that before I enrolled). I came here for my master degree in nutrition and I was pretty disappointed in the level of education that was offered here. This is supposed to be a master degree program, not an undergraduate program. The work here was ridiculously easy, which was a major plus to jumping up my GPA though. But the the majority of the teachers in the nutrition department seemed over worked and ran out of motivation and the desire to teach years and years ago. But a major plus for other people out there, if you apply to this school, I am pretty sure you will get in. Seems like they accept anyone who applies to this school, just to get more money. In general, students become more lazy when they start attending classes because teachers do not raise the bar on education. Great for the slacker I suppose... I mean this is Los Angeles after all...I'll just leave it as that. Next thing I want to gripe about is the administration and enrollment department. It takes them so long to process paperwork and make you run around and around just to get a small form filled out. After I graduated here in June, it took nearly 5 months later for me to finally receive my graduate diploma... wow 5 months! Well it's not like I am proud to tell people that I wasted a few years here anyway, so my diploma will go in my book shelf to probably never be looked at again. The people who are in charge of your transcripts are lazy people who give you false promises of getting your transcripts processed and then you find out much later that your transcripts have never actually been processed... I could just go on and on of all the annoying things here.... so you get the idea. Now is there really any good things here? Well it is convenient to those living in the Los Angeles County and it is very easy to get into this school (so as a back up when applying for colleges, I guess this school could be your fall back or your plan B), this is a quarter system school so you can get done quicker than a semester based school, the campus itself actually looks kind of nice as there are newer buildings that were built in the past 2 years and your GPA will probably sky rocket like mine with minimal work (like I said, this is the school for slackers).

Yelp
As a kid who never thought she would make it to college let alone high school, CSULA could be a lot worse. We're lucky to even have a university that is available to local students who can't afford to go to UCLA or USC. As a transfer student from Pcc, I was pretty scared when it was my time to come here. I heard so many stories of people getting screwed here, and never end up graduating... Blah blah about the financial aid losing everyone's stuff. I'm about to complete my first year here, and yea the beginning was hard, I didn't know the campus, I didn't know what my professors would expect of me. I came in with the jr. Collage mentallity. DO THE MINIMUM! Hahaha but that didn't last. I'm a proud COMD major and all I can say is great things about my department. Marcy, the head coordinator,is so amazing, she is patient and does her best to provide information to all the students. The dept also does their best to makes sure all COMD students get at least some classes by making the dept students petition for classes instead of a first come first serve registration. Now the teachers, some are better than others, but they all want the same no matter how they treat you, they don't want you to stay, they want you to pass. We are in a recession, and shit things are going to happen, cuts are going to continue and tuition is going to rise. It's up to each student to figure out a way to stick it out, because there are hundreds of student who would be more than happy to take any available spot. If you can't hack the concrete jungle that is CSULA, then don't come here bro! I want to finish, so I am on top of my dates, my financial aid, I'd call before anything was do, I'd stop by, I'd ask for them to confirm that they had my documents. And yes it was a pain in the ass, but I wanted to succeed , and you know what. YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT! I have been so fortunate that I have yet to worry about paying for school, this year and next year is taken care of because I worked hard to earn those damn grants. I haven't payed a penny. It's pretty nice actually. I'd be an idiot not to continue my education while I'm a student here, I was lucky to get in after all the student holds and those who can't even apply till fall. Collage is crappy, and it isn't going to change, if you want an education, you gotta fight for it trick!

Yelp
I went here for over six years and it was a great experience. It's a commuter school so don't expect sports teams and clubs like in other colleges but the professors areExceptional and the tuition at the time was affordable. Highly recommended

Yelp
Cal State LA should really shape up there student staff and regular staff employees. The student staff in the administration building lack professional costumer service over the phone: very rude, never introduced there name, doesn't know parodical or procedures for answering students questions. It's a real misfortune and hurts the image of the Golden Eagles Second, none of the admin or graduation department employees are on the same page about transcripts. One department tells you one thing and the other says that's wrong. This campus really needs to regroup on their employees because it's misleading students and causing more complications.

Yelp
I had to come here to take an exam. This was one of the worst campuses to navigate! Good grief! It was a large exam with multiple classrooms filled with people taking the exam, so you would think there would be signs with arrows or something to help you find the correct testing room. Nope! Drive to the campus, drive all over the different parking lots. From one side of the university to the other.....finally, a paper sign stuck to a traffic cone directing you to a section of the university. Parked and started walking. Walking, walking, and walking all over the place.....there were other people there to take the same test and everyone was just walking around trying to find a sign. Finally a sign was spotted and everyone was trying to figure out where to go. It took darn near an hour trying to find the correct building. We were directed to go through a series of tall staircases to get to some upper level area of buildings. I'd hate to know if someone was disabled who needed to take this test - good luck to them! I was recovering from medically caused muscle wasting, so these stairs were not something I should have even been climbing! Got to the testing room and there was no instruction whatsoever. The testing proctors didn't even show up on time or start the test on time. They wasted so much of our testing time just checking people in for the test. They gave a restroom break for 5 minutes in the middle of the test. People left the testing room and were trickling back in 10, 15, and even 20 minutes late after the restroom break had ended, interrupting everyone who had resumed the test with their slamming of the doors. Finish the test, finally leave the horrible testing room, only to wander through the campus trying to figure out how the heck to get out! It was like a maze! I would never return to this university unless I absolutely had to!

Yelp
This is one of the worst schools I've ever attended. I don't even know why people still attend this school. The staff is rude. Anyone that has to do with food is rude. Especially the Black guy in the student store. He is the worst one of them all.

Yelp
After attending CSULB, I decided to change up and attend here for graduate school. I also took up my ms credential simultaneously. I liked the fact that it is a commuter school straight off the end of the 710 freeway. The campus is fairly small with older buildings, some spread quite far apart. There was lots of construction for years so I'm sure plenty of upgrades have taken place. Parking is horrible, as is on every other university campus I've been on. Fees have jacked up tremendously. However, the long term outcome is well worth it!! The campus had a close knit, calm feel. Professors were thorough as well. I liked having the option to take evening and Saturday classes. Everything was easy to find. The bookstore, library, food court, and administration building were all in the same center area of the campus. There isn't much extracurricular life here, but if you want to focus, get in, and get out, this campus is for you.

Yelp
Where do I begin with good ol' CSULA... I graduated in 2014, I met some amazing professors and colleagues, this place has opened so many doors for me. It's a commuter school, but this doesn't necessarily mean you're missing out on the college experience. The campus is beautiful, large, and close to home. I'm proud to be a Golden Eagle!

Yelp
Like another poster said, not all of us can afford to go to a great University of ____ school (UCLA, USC.) I'm in CSULA for the criminal justice program and I have to say so far so good. I'm happy with the school, I'm happy with the education I am recieving, I've never had a grumpy/horrible professor whose made me want to drop the class and go and cry in the bathroom with the couch in it. The only downside is in my program certain classes only have one section, offered once a week from 6-10PM. Ugh. Not all of us can run on that schedule okay CSULA-class assignment people. The gyms kind of small too, but you can use it when classes aren't in session and yes...the equiptment might be old, but it's free for students, so quit your whining ;)

Yelp
o5.31.14 There are always tons of pros and cons in every universities. People just need to learn you don't always get what you wanted. Let's not mention the cons because um..too many lol But one, parking is so expensive! The pros, they offer many evening and some weekend classes. :)

Yelp
I have nothing nice to say. The bad has outweighed the good from my experience here. Putting in my transfer.

Yelp
School fucking sucks. Especially if you're in science. Specifically the geologist program will make you spend two years there before they realize you can't even qualify for the GIT exam. The advisors here are cool, but terrible in advising you. Wasted 2 years here for a masters before I realized they couldn't give enough advice for a bird to even fly. Seriously consider this place before wasting money

Yelp
I have been attending this school for two years now and I love It ! Everyone is helpful and the resources that the school provides are great. Everyone at school makes me feel comfortable and relaxed. Even though some parts of the school are older and need repairs, other areas are so beautiful and peaceful. I wouldn't change schools. Ever. I'm proud to be a Golden Eagle !

Yelp
I've attended this school for 5 years, parking is a nightmare, fall & winter quarters especially. The parking pass was recently increased which never guarantees an actual spot, can take up to an hour to find parking. I tried calling the financial aid office on several occasions, which I always have to wait more than 40 minutes to get threw to someone. The automated message at the beginning should be shortened and the monotone voice in between the wait music that announces "all agents are busy, please remain on the line" is awful, the music is soothing, I get it have to wait but please don't frighten me with that disturbing voice. Today I had to wait 1 hour, and 15 minutes until someone FINALLY answered, they quickly got my CIN and put me back on hold for another 5 minutes then hung up on me. I am shocked that this school is profit driven and doesn't really care about students! Administration staff, math department, financial aid that I've had to deal with have horrible people skills. They all act annoyed by students and do not make you feel welcomed or appreciated! Never have I been greeted with a smile or friendly welcome. Professors on the other hand have all been great and pleasant for the most part no complaints towards them. Please fix parking issue suggestion: install sensors in parking spots to indicate which levels actually have an available spot instead of making us waste our time looking for parking. Please remind administration receptionists, math department receptionists, and financial aid receptionists (Basically all of the workers behind the counters) they work for students and need to attract positivity in the environment! We get it, you all get hundreds of students walking into your office buildings please don't make us as students feel as if we are bothering you. I look forward to seeing efficient changes in the school.

Yelp
Administration does not work with the students. Councilors do not have the student's best interest in mind. They also send wrong information when emailing and you often have to email back to make sure everything is right. The degree you get here is pretty useless overall

Yelp
I recently(2013) graduated(with an engineering degree) from this awful college. I'll advice anyone NOT to attend this college. This is a shit-hole college. Campus police? horrible. Financial service dept.? repulsive. IT desk? suck. Campus environment? dreadful. Library? not that great. Most instructors/professors/staffs? inferior. Students? not that friendly either, everyone sticks to their own people. Items at the bookstore? overpriced. Food court services? junk. Fitness center/swimming pool/recreation area? unimpressed. Housing services? I never lived there. Majority of the staffs at csula look very doleful. They always have this care-free/unprofessional attitude over the phone. This college keeps sending me alumni letters soliciting money. This is the last college I'll want to give money to. Nothing is inclusive or diverse about this school.
