Union Market Wrangles a Cacti-Cool Country Bar | Eater DC

"A D.C.‑born bagel shop, typically closing at 2 p.m., tested a late‑night concept during Pride weekend with a "Logan Late Night" party on June 7 (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.) at its P Street NW location. The event drew hundreds, featured a collaboration with local DJs NuAndroids, served the full menu including an 'Endless Summer' lineup, and helped extend Pride Parade festivities; the shop says it may repeat similar after‑hours events." - Tierney Plumb

This shop is adorable! All the staff was super friendly and accommodating, and they have a vegan meat AND vegan milk option. The latkes especially were delicious, and it seems the whole city knew because this place was packed! We got here around 10am and were lucky enough to grab one of the 6 available tables, but people started to pack in soon after. The cappuccino, sun city bagel, and cheddar bagel were all great too. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to DC!

Tried this spot recently and it definitely lives up to the hype. I had an Americano, and it was surprisingly good smooth, rich, and just strong enough to kickstart the day. The real star, though, was the za’atar bagel flavorful on its own, but even better with egg whites and turkey slices added in. The staff was upbeat and friendly, which added a great energy to the place. Only downside? The bagel sandwich prep was a bit slow, so not ideal if you’re in a rush. Still, with reasonable prices and great vibes, I’d definitely come back.

Google
This location is easy to find and easy to park. I got the Graceland bagel and a coffee and neither disappointed. Delicious food, fast and friendly service. The place is smaller than the west location, but it’s in a mall area so there was plenty of space to sit outside.

Google
Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. I ordered the Sun City bagel sandwich with impossible sausage. It was delicious and the spicy honey was a yummy touch. The iced coffee and chocolate chip cookie were also a hit. Service was fantastic and everyone was friendly. I highly recommend.

Google
I was so pumped to have this huge delight of a sandwich and I was less than impressed... just another advertising scheme to get people in the door. The smere was only on 1 side and there was 1 slice of salmon...and they forgot my favorite part. The capers. Not 1 single caper.. that's my favorite part if a lox. And I asked for extra onions and this was regular onions. But it was interesting to see, they make all their money off only the labor of black and brown people. Righteous. Nice dining area. $3 for 1 square of latka, please...it was super greasy. This was nothing special.. it was actually less than normal. Very underwhelming. I can't believe they expect a tip for carryout.. I didn't even have a server or bartender. That's who tips are for.

Google
Beautiful little spot. Has outside and inside dining. Everyone there is friendly and accommodating. It was my first time there and definitely will not be my last. Had the honey bacon, egg, cheese sandwich, and the honey maple sausage, egg, cheese sandwich, with a blueberry cornflakes muffin. Enjoyed every bit of all of it. Very delicious food. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it. 😃👍

Google
Cute space! Not a lot of seating. The structural stability of the bagels is a 3/10. Invest in toothpicks. Cream cheese is a strange texture.

Zulmarie Berlingeri

Google
So good! Had the sesame bagel with salmon, capers, tomatoes, cucumber, onion and a cappuccino—and everything was delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and totally hit the spot. Great vibes and solid coffee. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Stopped here randomly and was unbelievably impressed with not only the quality of the food, but the attitude and welcoming nature of all of the staff. The breakfast was so good. I came back the second day, even though I didn't have time I got the order to go because I didn't want to miss out on a gem of a breakfast. Debra and everyone else were so great if I ever come back to DC, this will be a must stop
google avatar

Yelp
It's crowded here. This place has lots of chaotic energy which means it's a good spot. I had the mountain view. The latka inside the sandwich really worked with the egg and American cheese. Service was fast for how long the line was.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Something about being on the east coast makes me think I can get a great bagel, but they don't import that NYC water everywhere. Still a good bagel nonetheless. The bacon egg and cheese was warm, salty, and satisfying. Cute inside and really friendly staff. Stop by if you know a bagel is the best way to start your day.
google avatar

Yelp
Always good food and service! Pros: - love the bacon sun city - friendly people - love the big turkey sandwich: simple and delicious. Good bread, thin sliced turkey, good ratios. - A+ latkes Cons? -small space, only a few inside tables -not super fast, but not super slow
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the pastrami sun city ahead online. It took less than the time estimated for it to be prepared. It's not the best bagel I've had, but with all the components put together, it's a very solid breakfast bagel sandwich. The pastrami is just the slightest bit sweet. Mostly on the edges of the meat. I wanted it to be just a little bit more fatty, so it would be a little more tender. The smokiness was great though. Egg was pretty fluffy. Not a significant amount of cheese on the sandwich. The bagel could be a little more fluffy. It was hefty and had a good crunch on the exterior. I wish that you could choose the bagel that comes with the sandwich. I really wanted to try the za'atar bagel with it. Possibly something they can change in the future. I split the bagel sandwich in half, and it was enough for a small breakfast.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
In town for the first time and was craving an authentic bagel and schmear and this defintely hit the spot. The inside decor was super cute too.

Yelp
This was my first time having lunch at Call Your Mother. Overall, I had a pleasant experience. Everyone was friendly and patient with me as I made my decision. The tuna melt was pretty tasty. I do think that you should get it on its original rye bread instead of the bagel because it became quite messy. In regards to the prices, I think they are a tad overpriced, but that's to be expected in that area. I will probably stick to them for breakfast, but great establishment in general.

Yelp
There's a "whole lotta luv" in this place and the food! I just had the most incredible, amazing "Everythanng Bagel w/ a Scrambled Egg, Cheddar Cheese & Thick-Cut Hickory Smoked Bacon!" One world to describe it..."HELLALICIOUS!!" And, I must qualify this statement to say that I am not even a bagel fan! Being from the south, if a biscuit and bagel was on a plate for the taking... My hands would be all over that biscuit and looking for butter & jelly to finish it! I never could figure out what was the craze up this way or up north about bagels....or really the purpose of eating round thick cuts of bread...Welp! Until now!! I have been "baptized"..... in the name of Bagels! Call Your Mother was something to experience and a great reintroduction to the world of traditionally crafted, artful bagels. On this day, I tried "The Sun City" Bagel...which was an Everything Bagel loaded with a soft, scrambled egg, bubbling cheese ooooozinggg from everywhere and generous slices of thick bacon stuffed between a foodie's masterpiece of goodness. The Bagel alone held its weight in gold. It was a perfect round gem, with a crispy-chewy outter texture and center-hole intact. It was shined-over slightly by an butter egg-wash that gave it a sexy appeal and generously loaded with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion bits & salt flecks. With each bite, your mouth is filled with a joyful bliss, hitting all your sensory nodes and senses of see, touch, smell...oh!...& taste! Look here man...I'm in Luv just talking about this thing!! The insides of the bagel was just as good and was soft, dense with somewhat a hint of honey flavor to it. I'm telling you the truth.... this thing was something to experience...a foodie's delight indeed!! Small shop but things move quickly. You won't be waiting too long and you can always order ahead if you know you're stopping by. Love the menu options and the fact that you can customize any order. I think I have found my new, neighborhood breakfast & lunch spot! Most definitely will be back!

Yelp
My husband and I were in the area and decided to try Call Your Mother because several people had recommended it. I ordered an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, tomato and cucumber. My husband got a sausage, egg, and cheese. We also got the latkes to share. We both lived in NY for awhile so it's hard to compare but we thought these bagels were pretty good. There wasn't a huge selection but they had a few unique options. We overall really enjoyed our bagels and I especially loved the latkes - I put both the sour cream and apple jam on mine and they were delicious! It is a bit small inside and there were only a handful of tables so we had to walk back to our hotel to eat our food.
google avatar

Bobbi D.

Yelp
Such a cute spot and OMG SO good!! Just wish there was better seating...it's so crowded with the line out the door and not much seating... great option for pickup! The food is delicious.
google avatar

Kathleen D.

Yelp
I love CYM! Their bagel sandwiches are delightful. They are popular for good reason. Ordering via Toast was super easy and pickup at their Logan Circle location was a breeze, even though they were really busy at the time. I had the whitefish salad bagel and every bite was delectable. Definitely wish they had one of these in Richmond. Expand south, please!
google avatar

Yelp
It's a small shop that has wonderful vibes. I ordered the Bacon Sun City and it was great. I was disappointed to learn they didn't have almond milk or even skim milk so I went elsewhere for my coffee but the person who waited on me was very kind and apologetic. I went at around 10 am on a holiday a got my sandwich within about 5 minutes so the wait wasn't long for me but you can also order online and pick up for even quicker service!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. I am so glad that I wandered by this spot as I was checking out the neighborhood. I'm sad that I wasn't around during lunch to be able to grab a sandwich because they look incredible. I love the pink walls and awesome decor in this place - it was fun and the staff were the same. As it was my first time, everyone was kind and offered their opinions on the best thing to try. I settled on 2 bagels - Apple Cinnamon and Maple Salt. Wowsa. Definitely don't skip out on that odd but awesome sweet and salty doughy combo.
google avatar

Ash S.

Yelp
A staple in DC, CYM is about as close to NY bagels as one can get in the DMV. Wife and I had a staycation near Logan Circle and ordered ahead (a must) for Sunday breakfast. Chewy, soft yet crispy, and loaded on both sides with everything seasoning---the quintessential NYC bagel. If you're visiting from anywhere other than NYC, stop in, order ahead, and prepare to enjoy l!

Yelp
This place was so cute on the inside. I loved the color scheme! The thunderbird was delicious but next time I might consider splitting it with a friend, it was a pretty big portion. My favorite part of this breakfast was the maple latte. It was SO SO good and perfect on a chilly day. Everyone was super nice and this locations is walking distance to the white house! Great stop before your tour!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Variety of bagels and LOTS of cream cheese. Friendly service. Good coffee also. Only a few tables and seems to be doing a thriving take out and delivery service
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
I can't believe its taken me this long to try Call Your Mother but I'm so happy I finally did! What I loved most were the interesting takes on classic sandwiches - don't sleep on them for lunch either. Their ambiance is fun, upbeat and very warm and inviting. Not a ton of seating so be prepared to grab and go or eat outside if the weathers nice. Their staff is really friendly and their bagels are some of my favorite downtown. We tried a few new ones this time (see descriptions below) and both were great although I much preferred the Royal palm because it wasn't as messy to eat. Their toppings are loaded on and everything is fresh made to order. Don't sleep on their loaded cream cheeses! The Thunderbird - hot honey, sausage egg and cheese : The Royal Palm - veggie cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, capers and onions on an everything bagel
google avatar

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Best meal in DC! I really wish they had this in Philly because it was delicious and a place I would go for breakfast/lunch any day! My bf and I walked to this location Saturday before noon and it was packed with a line out the door. Very organized system and the line does move fairly fast. Only 3 tables inside but they also have a small standing section with table near the bathroom. Ordered the royal palm, sun city with pastrami and cold brew. Everything receives a 10/10! My favorite was the royal palm. A refreshing and tasty sandwich. The sun city was delicious but felt very heavy after eating it. I can't wait to come back here. Definitely stop by when in DC!
google avatar

Morgan H.

Yelp
SUCH GOOD BAGELS!!! Wow!!! They're so unique, but completely delicious! Even when I heated up the other half a day later, it was fantastic!! The inside is so cute and pink!! Would love to try more of their menu!!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Their maple salt bagel is very special with a good mix of sweetness and savory. I like the decor a lot. The pink color on a nice sunny morning really helps to elevate the mood of the day. It does get more crowded close to noon. Try to go late morning 11ish if you want to skip and line and sit down. The bagel sandwich is pretty filling and a good lunch option. I would recommend this place for any bagel lovers.
google avatar

Stephan M.

Yelp
On the outside this just looks like an average bagel shop in downtown Washington, DC, but it is so much more!! We stopped in here on our last trip to DC after to a of recommendations from friends and now we see why. The bagels are very similar to what you would get in NYC they also have some great house creations. They even have one bagel that has a "McGriddle" flavor complex. This time I just went with the standard Lox bagel and it was amazing!
google avatar

Brandis S.

Yelp
I ordered delivery and was pleasantly surprised to find my bagels warm, probably fresh out of the oven! I guess this is a benefit of being up and ordering very early (7am). I ordered sesame and everything bagels, plain cream cheese, and whitefish salad. I actually only ordered from here for the whitefish salad (I was in town for business and can't get it at home), and I was definitely not disappointed! It was deliciously smoky and creamy with a touch of sweetness - heaven! The bagels were also excellent; I'm not sure how they would be later in the day, but they were fantastic first thing in the morning. Overall, an excellent breakfast!
google avatar

Darius B.

Yelp
Came in and purchased 2 Bagel sandwiches that were very tasty! And paid $26 . Yikes.. The menu is a little all over the place with all types of names for a bagel sandwich... But the Cashier was very nice though, and the shop was clean.. Not in any rush to walk back over there. Learned you can get pretty much the same thing a few blocks down in the heart of Dupont Circle for much Cheaper.
google avatar

Aanchal B.

Yelp
Adorable place!! I'm in town for a few days and had to check this place out! It's right in the heart of downtown too. The matcha latte was good and the Mountain View bagel was delicious- Bodega-style Egg, Latke, American + Cheddar Cheeses, Mashed Avocado. It was very filling too. I also think the name of this place is super clever and cute! This location only has 3 tables inside but a few outside as well. The staff were all so friendly so I definitely would come back!
google avatar

Kitty K.

Yelp
We saw this place on a food show and then recognized it while we were there and decided to try it for breakfast and it did not disappoint. We ordered online and it was ready for pickup on time we got the impossible egg and cheese on everything bagel with some kind of spicy honey we really enjoyed it and it kept us full for hours. The guava and raspberry donut was serviceable but needed more guava flavor.
google avatar

Don H.

Yelp
I'm having a hard time between deciding between 3 and 4 stars. I had a couple of bagel sandwiches and coffee. The coffee was just okay and the bagels were decent, but nothing to write home about. They had a good crust and were reasonably soft on the inside, but lacking that loft (they were rather dense). That said, the smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, tomato, capers made a very good sandwich.
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
So many people talk about this spot that we had to try it before leaving DC. My husband and I shared: - The Bacon Sun City - The Royal Palm - The Town Shore The Town Shore was my favorite. The lox was fresh and delicious. All around a great bagel sandwich. I also really enjoyed the flavors on the Royal Palm. I can't say I was a huge fan of the Sun City. It was so dry. I wish it came with cream cheese because it definitely needed something more.
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
Still be best bagel I've ever had! I have dreams about the bagels from Call Your Mother. I've been to another location in DC and just had to stop back when I was in the area again for work. I was only here for a day and booked an afternoon flight specifically so I could stop at Call Your Mother for a sun city with bacon on a maple salt and pepper bagel. Such an amazing bagel sandwich and it makes me excited to be in DC and now I can't wait to visit when I'm in Denver! I tell everyone about this place!
google avatar

Chloe S.

Yelp
Call Your Mother never misses! I had never been to the Logan Circle location before the other day, but it was of course just as great as their other locations. I got the Sun City sandwich on a za'atar bagel, which is basically a bacon, egg, and cheese with hot honey - delicious! Other favorites at CYM are the Thunderbird and the Mountain View, as well as the maple salt & pepper bagel. It was busy on a Sunday morning but I got my bagel pretty quickly. There are a few tables indoors as well as outdoors, and I had no trouble grabbing a spot, Definitely one of the best bagel sandwiches in the city!

Henry D.

Yelp
I bought a blta and it came without avocado or bacon but with ham. bummer. tasted good but not what I wanted and less than what I paid for.
google avatar

bruce s.

Yelp
Meh. My Everything Bagel had not taste of anything. Whitefish salad was at best a remnant of NY whitefish salad I'm accustomed to. Lox was ok but the overall sandwich was uninspired.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
the perfect bagel doesn't exist... hold up it does and it's from @callyourmotherdeli I rarely stray away from my usual order the no-meat sun city but the gleneagle was just so soo good and filled with candied salmon cream cheese, cucumbers, crispy shallots and lettuce on a za'atar bagel
google avatar

Madeleine W.

Yelp
If you're craving a hearty bagel, go to Call your Mother! I have yet to try it, but I heard great things about the turkey bagel. I love smoked salmon so I am a royal palm loyalist!
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
I came in for a ham egg and provolone bagel sandwich. I laughed because they didn't offer ham or provolone. So I went with bacon and cheddar instead. The sandwich was delicious but was it $13 delicious? The funny thing is if I called my mother and told her I spent $13 on a breakfast sandwich she would have read me the riot act.
google avatar

Janelle J.

Yelp
I have a high bar for a bacon egg and cheese and this place meets the mark every time. The spicy honey on the Sun City is perfect. And the playlist is great.
google avatar

Kreme B.

Yelp
We ordered thru call your mothers online system thru toast. The delivery was from doordash. I have had this recently with other restaurants. I try to order directly for local businesses so it's benefits them more. The delivery share thru doordash doesn't quite work well as you can't contact delivery person directly as you can when you place thru doordash. That glitch aside, the food was eggcellent (sic)! Ordered two bagel sandwiches one breakfast egg on everything bagel and smoked salmon on z'aatar bagel. Both were prepared as ordered scooped & toasted. Tasty! Also ordered a side of latkes. Yum! And a chocolate babka for later. Next time I'm in DC will definitely be ordering again!!
google avatar

Yelp
I finally got to try this place a couple months back. I placed the order before leaving my office and then walked over after work. Once I arrived I went on in and saw the pickup rack, which had a bag for Andrew. I said hello, and then grabbed the bag and walked out. I went to the Whole Foods across the street and grabbed an open table outside... just to realize that the contents of the bag were not my order. I then saw that the last initial was not mine... OOPS XD!! So I ran back, returned the bag I had and grabbed the right one (mine actually wasn't ready when I first came in hahaha) and received what I actually intended to have -- the Thunderbird -- a breakfast bagel sandwich with maple chicken sausage, eggs, spicy honey and cheese on a Maple Salt & Pepper bagel. It tasted as delicious as the contents may imply. The bagel sandwiches get a little pricey (imo) but I understand because of where the ingredients all come from -- and I gotta say it's good stuff! It's not very often that I have an urge for a bagel sandwich, but when I do... I know where to go.
google avatar

Allie H.

Yelp
Heard a lot of good things about this bagel shop! Have been a handful of times and had a few of their sandwich combinations. Overall the standout for me is The Thunderbird..I mean look at the picture and check out that cheese. Also had a pretty good iced latte from here. It does get busy so my suggestion is to order ahead. This place was good and was a nice weekend morning breakfast if you want something easy. I love a good bagel so for sure will be back!
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
Easily one of the best bagels I've ever had! I was in DC this past weekend and my friends insisted we had to go to Call Your Mother, and that I would fall in love with this place. Well...they were right! We went to the location on Barrack's Row, close to Eastern Market. On a Saturday morning at 11 o clock this place was absolutely packed, like people spilling out onto the street. Despite this, I'd say we only waited in line for about 10 minutes and only about 15 for our bagels and lattes, which considering the crowd, I would say was pretty speedy. Most of my group got the Thunderbird, which is apparently their most popular bagel, and for good reason. It had cheese, egg, and apple chicken sausage and this was so delicious. I'm happy to say my friends were right and next time I'm in DC, this will be my go-to bagel spot!
google avatar

Gia Ilyana C.

Yelp
You have to try this place it was fantastic, I had the maple salt and peper bagel with cream cheese and bacon and a pickle. I don't eat breakfast often but I finished everything, my fiancé had the sun city and that was such a good combination, I loved it. The vibes in there were fantastic and the cashier was so nice and helpful, wish I got their name! They do have limited seating but it opens

Yelp
Call Your Mother seems to be new the bagel hotspot in DC that everyone can't shut up about. As a bagel fanatic I was excited to try out some of their bagels, cream cheeses, and their speciality bagel sandwiches. I ordered the Mountain View and the King's Point. The Mountain View was a plain bagel filled with bodega-style eggs, american & cheddar cheeses, latke (fried potato), and smashed avocado. Overall it was pretty good! The egg and latke went super well together and made the meal pretty filling. The cheeses were all melted and gooey which was also a huge plus! However I though the bagel was very average (maybe because it was plain?). I'll definitely have to go back to try some of their other bagels and maybe even this sandwich on a different bagel. The King's Point was nacho jalapeño cream cheese and crispy shallots on a cheddar bagel (with no bacon). I was super excited for this one just based on the description! Unfortunately the bagel had bacon in it and thus I wasn't able to try it. However I did try a lick of the nacho jalapeño cream cheese, and it tasted SPLENDID. I'm super excited to try the King's Point for real next time! Here are some of the things I want to try during future visits to Call Your Mother! Bagels: Everything, Za'atar, and Maple Salt & Pepper Schmearz: Garlic Herb, Nacho Jalapeño, Vertage Plant-Based Extras: Spicy Honey, Crispy Shallots, Fritos

Yelp
It is so nice to visit my home DC and saw new places being opened. I remember waiting in line in DuPont Circle Farmers Market to get bagels and cream cheese from this vendor!!! The place is typical DC store. Small with 3 tables for seating area inside and couple tables outside. It is constantly busy with customers picking up to go orders. I sat down to absorb the atmosphere and enjoyed my bagel and Cinny-crunch hot Latte. I can't wait to go back ... but next time, I will get a to go order !
google avatar

Araceli V.

Yelp
That Honey Lavender Matcha was so refreshing! It paired well with my Thunderbird breakfast sandwich. The bagel was cheese and warm. The sausage in the bagel was sweet so be prepared! However, personal preference: it needs more spicy but that's on me for not grabbing some hot sauce on my way out. Worth the try!
google avatar

Madyson L.

Yelp
really hefty and well sized bagels, workers are very kind, recommend eating on the spot for the best taste, not bad but also not lifechanging iykwim

Yelp
Great bagel place in Logan circle. Ordered online and the order was ready when I arrived. Super friendly folk.
google avatar

Katie W.

Yelp
The best bagel this Jersey gal has found in DC. You can't go wrong with any of their signature bagel sandwiches! Order ahead if you don't want to wait in long lines on the weekend!
google avatar

Carrisa J.

Yelp
As a first timer, this place definitely lives up to the hype. We got the sun city both with bacon and pastrami and it's everything you want in a bagel place. High quality bagel, stuffed with flavorful fillings, and all in a fun and aesthetic place! The summer pie latte is also delicious and not too sweet with hints of berry. Not only are the food, drinks, and decor amazing, but the service is also superior! The staff were so kind and made sure you really love your experience here. Can't wait to try new menu items here!

Yelp
On a recent weekend trip to DC I woke up with a craving for a lox bagel. After a quick online search, I decided to try this location as it was the closest one to me. Estimated 12 minute walk away:perfect. As you enter the location it's tight on the inside with three tables on the right, the main register on the left and the pick-up area straight ahead. I don't recall the employee's name who took my order, but she was friendly and answered all my questions about the menu. She said it gets busy around noon on Saturdays so I made it before the rush (around 9AM). I ordered a chai latte and two bagels to-go: the Royal Palm bagel sandwich and a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese. I meant to request the RP without capers, but it was easy to pick them out. Both bagels were delicious. I'd definitely return when in the area again.

Yelp
Coming from NJ/NY, bagel standards are high. I will say the bagel itself (as in the bread) was dry. But the filling was great. The cheese they use in the royal palm was very unfamiliar but I enjoyed it. Okay spot for bagels in DC.

Yelp
Great bagel sandwiches and spreads/cream cheeses but bad bagels. It would really be the perfect place if they could figure out the bagel part of it.
