Callahan's was recommended to me by my Airbnb host. My Airbnb was less than a mile away so around 9pm on a Friday night, my buddy and I found ourselves at Callahan's. We went to Daulphin Street first. There were several people walking up and down the street, limited parking, and because Mobile just re-opened from COVID-19, there were only a few restaurants open. I write those facts in this review to compare Callahan's. Callahan's is a few blocks south of Government in a residential area. Parking was not difficult and the only people around seemed to be locals. It was so easy to walk in and sit down. This felt like an Irish pub with all the memorabilia on the walls.
There are lots of choices for alcohol. I do not drink so I can't help you there. But I can help you with the food.
The menu is very limited. There are only 3 appetizers. My buddy and I went with the Spinach dip with garlic bread. It was all right.
The menu includes sandwiches and a burger with potato salad, slaw, or chips. My Airbnb host said it was the best burger in Mobile. I had to order the burger with such a glowing recommendation. The burger had a fresh made patty with a kaiser bun. You get to choose your type of cheese. The burger comes with mayo, mustard, ketchup, and LTO (lettuce, tomato, and onion). I recommend the burger but I wouldn't say it is the best in Mobile. Though I have not eaten a lot of burgers in Mobile, I like a little more diversity in my burgers to consider it the best.
I had potato salad with my burger. It was made from red potatoes, dill, and some kind of mayo-light mustard conglomeration.
If you are looking for an Irish pub to hang out and socialize with some of the locals away from the crowds of downtown Mobile, give Callahan's a try.
