Keep in mind that this is a fish market. You can buy fresh seafood to cook at home. They also sell cooked seafood, there are a few tables to sit and eat your food, there is also a bar area. The day that I visited the pescaderia, the floors were wet and slippery, and there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. We ordered crab pastelitos, soup, a seafood boil, 1 order of seafood rice, and 1 whole fried fish. The food was ok, but not impressive. The whole fish was mostly bones, and the little meat that it had was dry. The shrimp was chewy & overcooked. I did like the garlic sauce they poured over the seafood boil. We also liked the crab pastelitos. The pescaderia offers good prices in some foods, but for the prices I paid, it was not worth the trip.

The fried shrimp and French fries combo is dynamite. Very popular spot that has been here for a while now. If you like seafood, you’ll most definitely like this place.

terrible, dirty and infested with vermin, i saw baby rats on the floor multiple times AND found a roach in my food, go here if you wanna throw up.

I came here specifically because they advertised $5 shrimp. When I ordered, the girl at the counter took the shrimp that was already displayed behind her and brought it into the kitchen, completely out of my view. When she returned to charge me, I asked what she had done with the shrimp. She told me she “warmed them up.” When I asked how, she said in the microwave. Microwaving shrimp drastically changes the texture and quality of the food, and this was done without my consent. The shrimp were already cooked and displayed, yet instead of serving them fresh or explaining the preparation, they were microwaved without asking. The staff was unprofessional, dismissive, and clearly comfortable cutting corners. This appears to be a common practice here. Due to the way food was handled and the lack of transparency, I will be filing a complaint with the food inspector. Shortcuts like this are unacceptable in any food establishment. I will not be returning.

This place is usually. I would NOT recoil End them for the holidays they have so many orders is not worthless to order. The paella was tasteless and muggy and taste burnt. $100 thrown away in the garbage. They should be considerate and not take orders if they have too many orders! Shame on you for robbing the public of their hard working money that went straight to the garbage!!!!

They had the best Fillet Salmon Soupy Rice but they got rid of the item who h was all I ordered most of the time. They are vague on their menu about what type of fish in their dishes and when I called to verify they hung up on me. It’s unfortunate the menu item is gone and they are super rude. I would recommend going elsewhere. Even if they brought the great soup back the customer service is really non existent and quality of the food can be hit or miss hence why I most ordered the same item over and over.

Not the best seafood spot I’ve been to but definitely the worst , their fried fish has no unique flavors taste more like freezer food just the worst lack of sazon . They charge $70 for what tastes like frozen chewy lobster tails stuffed 🥶 with Shrimp ! over the top with them prices for a recycled frozen lobster tail. I’ll stick with city island 🏝️ better and with the regular fish market spots like 116th st & Lenox ave called sea & sea fish market for fresh steamed Cajun lobster or east 149th street and 3rd ave called 149 steam fish best quality cooked fish for your monies worth ! However I’m not gona lie their soup and shrimp 🍤 empanadas are a perfect 10 here 🍻 street parking 👎

I wouldn't go again or recommended. Nothing like they show in the videos and prices and quality doesn't match. ( tips are already included but they don't tell you unless you ask for the right receipt) Fish and scallops were flavorless and dry. Maybe it wasn't a good day or time to visit

It's OK, if you want seafood the fish chiccaron is good and the soups are tasty but it's not high end fresh seafood so if you are expecting wild caught anything you need to go to a fish market. This is good for fast casual seafood, some items tasts farm raised, but its a spot to go after bar drinks, and for fried and ready to go food. More of a local spot and you get what you pay for. I enjoy it when I'm on the go but I don't expect much. It's aaight. Serves the purpose when I'm craving some fried fish or seafood soup. The plantains always taste old and empanadas not so fresh but they are friendly and decent seafood. No frills.

Review is based off delivery. Shrimp skewers/ pinchos = dry and rubbery. They were cooked previously, heated again now inedible. Bad. Empanadas crab and shrimp. Filling for both was painful salty. Crab was worse. Shrimp are whole, so I could eat a few bites. Bad. Maduros / sweet plantains- totally undercooked. Not good Fried rice = perfect. Fresh cilantro adds major flavor. The only thing I honestly ate. Delicious, fresh, and not salty. This was my spot many years ago, always fresh and delicious. However, wow, not now! That salt could kill and the shrimp would probably bounce! No excuse for the shrimp to be overcooked that much. I would go back in person to try again. I would DEFINITELY pick out my own fish to be cooked to order

Absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. Also seems like crack heads get a fix in the back. I walked in to get a fried red snapper and some shrimp on a stick, it was a movie first they have a shell chandelier that looks like it has dirt and dust from 1995 it's disgusting right over the food. While waiting for my order I saw a train of crack heads exit the facility one decided to stay and converse (more like bother) customers who were waiting to order, the staff just looked and stayed quiet. After that I got up and left I felt extremely uncomfortable and it was too ghetto and too dirty for me. Sorry but I used to go to this spot back in the day and I don't know what happened to it. Washington Heights is becoming the gutter you see as many crack heads as you see rats roaming the streets at all time of day. Definitely a hard pass.

I'd want to knock points off the wait staff for at times looking like they have no clue what's going on, but the food is legit. I stood around the takeout line a bit, gave my order to someone, stood around waiting, and then gave my order to someone else who promptly got my items lightning fast. In spite of this confusion, everything was incredible. The shrimp kebabs were so good I ate them in the car immediately. My wife feel in love with the seafood patties, and the seafood soup was perfect. I'll be back, and hopefully navigate the cashiers better.

If I could give no star I would !!! Sitting outside eating our food and we see like 10 roaches huddled up right next to our table !! I told the waitress she looked like she could care less ... apologized only after I reluctantly gave her the money and she came back with the change I guess worried about her tip ... disgusting !!! I could not finish my food and still paid because I don't want any confrontation!!! I would think the manager would be called to come and accommodate us but nothing !!! Nastiest experience I've ever had as long as I've lived !! Literally a gang of roaches chilling right next to our food ... I still feel sick ... I wanna throw up ! They need an exterminator or an inspection!! Because how is this even legal ?

I rarely eat seafood so trust me when I say this fish market has some great shrimp tacos! These shrimps so so well seasoned! Super good, be prepared to eat at least 3 in one sitting lol

Dominican joint. Seafood market with a restaurant next door. Open 24/7. Always fresh always good. The crab empanadas are very good. Fried fish, baked fish, shrimp skewer always good. On the cold side the shrimp salad is awesome. Not to vinegary, squeeze a little lemon and a dash of hot sauce and your on your way. And one of the few places like this that has Lambi (conch) salad. And they also have the mixed Seafood salad. And this is just the stuff that I've had. If your in the area so in and give it a go. This isn't a fancy joint but they serve up typical dominican seafood fare. They have other stuff to buy I never got past the seafood.

My favorite place to get some paella, omg this place it's 24 hours and have the best pulpo salad. I order paella for my parties and never fail to impress. Great food

I used to order from here alot as a young person. I just sent my husband to get me an order of their famous mashed potatoes. The potatoes used to come in a huge serving dish for a side order just a few years ago. Now they come in tiny little plastic circles containers. My husband was surprised at the small size so he bought me two. Also the service girl was rude to him and tried to overcharge for two tiny containers of potatoes. When I tried to eat them they were disgusting and watered down. It was clear they had been mashed with used broccoli water, as in the used the water they boiled broccoli in to mash the potatoes. I was disgusted by the consistency and the broccoli water flavor. Sad. These used to be great now they are just yuck pass on this forever. Let these mashed potatoes live in infamy. Just sad.

Calle 191 Pescaderia-- the best in town. You would think that seafood would be expensive but, this Pescaderia shows you otherwise. The asopao's are the best and filled with fresh seafood. You can either choose from shrimp or simply just caldo (stock). The tostones and empanadas are to die for and there so crunchy. I'm so used to having soggy tostones but, this place is up to my standards. Today they catered my grandpas birthday. The paella was amazing and up to par. Everyone at the party loved it and it was an awesome platter. I would honestly say if you want some authentic seafood this is the place to go!

I wish there was a button for negative stars. I flew in from Florida because I heard the spot was delicious and it was a horrible experience. The staff was extremely rude and gave me a hard time taking my order and wouldn't take my friends order without us having to ask them. We asked for our order to dine in and they said ok and still packaged our food to go. I also asked for steamed sweet potatoes and they gave me fried sweet potatoes but I have high cholesterol so I couldn't even eat it. We ended up missing a side to our order and wasted 52$ on 2 meals. We called to let them know and they insisted that they gave us the right order and the hung up on us.

I love going here after a night of partying! My favorite thing to get is the Shrimp creole and the crab empanadas (I don't even eat crab, that's how good these things are). The shrimp empanadas are good, as well, but aren't as filling as the crab ones. The women behind the counter work amazingly together especially when there is a big influx of people. Sometimes it gets hectic in here but they still seem to manage! It's an amazing 24 hour late night spot to stop by! It's clean and the food is delicious!

Really shitty customer service! Placed an order on grub and when I went to pick up my food the lady requested my ID which I left in my house to pick this order up. If a business is going to request ID for pickup let that be clear through the app when your ordering food. I use grubhub all the time and it's the first time I've had this happen to me after years of using the app! I guess when your in the ghetto they want to take extra precautions? It's a shame because the food was decent but the service was shit and I won't be going back here again.

Calle 191 pescadería is on of the local fish markets in Washington Heights who is know for their seafood soup and their ceviche salads! I remember coming here back in the days (about 7-8 years ago) after coming out of the clubs after a long night drinking for a nice hot hearty soup loaded with all types of seafood! Their empanadas the best, the seafood mofongo! I personally love this spot, although they have changed their menu a bit! I would recommend this place at all times!

Usually not a fan of sea food and somehow this place managed to make a plate so good I LOVED it. Definitely recommend ordering from here. I've ate here before but since it is a sea food place you will end up smelling like fish. They were quick to bring the food. They always give a lot of food so you get your money's worth and the staff is very nice and helpful. This place is open late for those days you're hungry late at night.

As a native to the area I have seen the place expand which is great! Best place to get seafood in the area. Customer service is a hit or miss at times. They are open 24hr it seems since I've been there at all hours!

Blech! It looks so appealing on the outside -- actual fish market/restaurant combination, served in multiple ways: baked, steamed, fried, whatever. Unfortunately, the product left a lot to be desired. I had "Danger Will Robinson!" signals on full blast the moment I saw a plastic bag of frozen "fries" being loaded into a fryer. When I bit into my salmon filet, I asked myself, "Wait, I thought I ordered SALMON filet not a block of salt." It's drenched in some kind of canolaish oil, too. Unclear why they drench it. Even though it's a cheap and bad oil, they could still save a lot by not using it. I'm going to have to say AVOID.

This is a a good spot when you want some local fish. They sell all their products fresh and cook some as well. I really enjoy their fried shrimp with French fries but the deli every process is tooooo long. This restaurant gives you a little taste of the Dominican flavor which I truest enjoy because I grew up in the country. Good spot, I recommend.

Food here never fails! Empanadas are always on point and fresh. I ordered a fried red Snapper with fries. The fish was juicy and meaty and it was just great!! This place never fails

Honestly so disappointed and disrespectful. We ordered carry out, jumbo shrimp with mash potatoes. The mash potatoes were rotten. It tasted super sour. I ended going to the restaurant and they offered to change the mash potatoes. But they didn't change the shrimp which was already covered in mash potatoes. Honestly so disgusting. Never ordering from here again.

Came here about 5 times, 1 out of the 5 they got my order semi right i order the same thing Fried Filet Blue snapper with yellow rice with veggies, the fish is either under cook or over cook and always switch the rice and veggies never the same . The ladies taking the orders either take to many orders at the same time and lose track of the orders or they arguing in front of customers . They are very unprofessional. Their food is very disappointing.

For a time, I loved the fried shrimp and fried rice combination, but the service is horrendous if you're a black woman. I have been ignored, made to wait long periods of time for my order and talking to employees who apparently don't speak or understand English. So, because I liked the food, I started having them deliver it to me. Safe to say I am DONE with this establishment, not only for the discrimination, but for the long, black hair I found after I was almost done with my food. Eat at your own risk at this place.

On Saturday September 11th, 2021 at 9:30pm passed by there to eat with a friend, we sat and placed our order, at first the waitresses, were very polite when they came to take our order. After 10 minutes we still had not received our drinks, until we asked. we sat there for another 50 minutes, (50 Minutes- more than 3/4 of an hour) waiting for our food. And even after all that time still no food. it got so bad that the waitresses seem to be ignoring our table. a couple of people sat on other tables, after we arrived and they received their food, but not us. I found it very rude especially when happening in my own neighborhood. I've live in Washington heights more than 35 years, and every time things like this happen it's usually some form of discrimination, I am black after all, Dominican, but black. This was my first time there, and I guaranteed it's the last time, no if, buts or maybe, about it. I sat there, with bugs crawling over my arm and neck, roaches on the walls!!. I felt uncomfortable the whole time, but was willing to ignore the discomfort, just to try the food. I will never recommend this restaurant to anybody. And to top it off, I was given an attitude and over charged for the drinks ( chinola drink, ginger ale and a corona). NEVER AGAIN. If I could give a negative star, I would, no hesitation.

If you get delivery from here you'll be highly disappointed because it always takes an hour or more to arrive. So if you are really hungry and are unable to order in, I recommend you pass. If you are willing to wait, I've had their shrimp and cangrejo pastelitos, as well as their fried shrimp with fried plantains or maduros. The food always tastes fresh and it is nicely priced. Portions are great. Jugo de chinola, although too sweet for my taste, is also stellar. Overall solid food but they need to make some adjustments to customer service.

This place both sells fresh and cooks seafood. I always come back for their fried fish and tostones (plaintains) it's served w a garlic sauce (ajo) and tartar sauce. They have great chinola/parcha (passion) juice. Literally order the same dish each time I need grab food to go, it's that good and memorable!

All are my favorite...One of the best things about this place is that it is open until the wee hours of the night. Being a student, I find myself up past midnight writing papers and needing a foodie fix. So, I order up 'rice with seafood (spanish style)' with their homemade lemonade.

Was craving seafood and since we were uptown decided to step here. What a mistake. The Mero fish isn't fully fried so it comes out as soggy, the tostones are fried and put on the side until you order so when you get them they're hard and cold. The grilled salmon has so much adobo that it's salty, the steamed vegetables aren't fully steamed so they're undercooked, the 7 potencias soup is supposed to be filled with all kinds of seafood but mostly has artificial crab meat (the fake kind you get at the super market for $2) and the Chinola Juice is sour. The only thing this place has that isn't fully horrible is the shrimp pastelitos. Avoid stopping here at all costs, it's not worth it at all.

I was in the area and stopped by, I ordered the garlic shrimp and yellow rice and steam salmon and veggies. The portions were very generous and the staff super friendly. I'm not in the area often but if you get a chance give this place a try. Worth noting everything is fresh and it's made in front right in front of you so it may take a few to get your order but you won't be disappointed

I have lived around this area for about 25 years , seen this place from where it first established , what pisses me off about it is that the customer service they have are a bunch of ghetto ( I'm Dominican myself ) Dominican women , that try to get you for your buck , I ordered a red snapper fish , usually goes for about 18-20 bucks with tostones , woman tried to persuade me with the 25$ same size as the 18-20$ fish that I ALWAYS BUY!!!! ..the part that pissed me off the most was that I had told her I don't have 25$ for a fish that I usually buy ( and I know the size ) find me a cheaper one I said to her ( which clearly there was ) she tried to embarrass me in front of other customers by telling me that's the price if you don't have it move aside . So I went in defense mode and defended myself with words and degraded her to a pulp of shit that she is , right there and then it showed the professionalism that they hire for such a great place for food , she got pissed and went on a rant against me . VERY RUDE , always asking to leave tips which is another reason why I hate going there , also they judge you upon clothing to try and get the extra buck out of you , and prices of certain foods have been going up periodically . ex . The soup started at 6$ I went back in a month went to 7$ went back in another month and it's up to 8$ , rather make it at home to be honest . Won't be giving my hard earned money to this piece of shit service

This seafood place has been in the same street for years. You could buy fresh fish and cooked. The place is a regular fish market with a seating area. I don't suggest people eating inside the place. The food smells stays in your clothes. For take out I highly recommend. It's so delicious. I suggest the shrimp patelitos and the fried shrimp with tostones. I also recommend the steamed fillet salmon with steamed veggies. It's a great meal after a workout. The location is close to the 1 train.

Chicharrónes de pescado y maduros (fried fish and plantains) are fantastic. Paella is good as well. It's not cheap but you get a lot considering it's seafood.

My boo put me on to this spot since it's by his neighborhood & he knows I love seafood. They're similar to el puerto but the food here is better well in my opinion; I love the garlic butter sauce they put all over the crabs the tostones are good my boo ordered he fried shrimp but I didn't get to try it he also had the salmon which he said were both good. The plus really for the fourth start is the fact that they're open 24/7 which is awesome; this will be our go to late night spot when we have those seafood cravings. I just finished eating crabs before I posted the review lol.

Since I am a native Spanish speaker I get amazing service here. Well not really but I am able to demand good service when needed so they behave. This place is amazing. The prices are crazy cheap, everything is fresh and 80% of the things I have tried have been amazing. I've had the: - Whole fried fish, my number one pick! I get it with tostones. - Seafood soup, my number one pick! ranking is stupid anyway! - Seafood empanada. My number one pick! seriously, shut up... -Mofongo with Garlic Shrimp, this was ok. The mofogo was more manguish then I would want it to be. The shrimp were cooked perfectly BUT the garlic was extreme. Like eat it and remember it for two days. -Pulpo (octopus) salad. Octopus was perfect. It was way too vinegary for me, but I'm not cooking pulpo so I'll put up with that. Overall, I love this spot. Sadly I doubt I'll be buying anything other than the fish or soup BUT I guess I owe it to the yelp community to do what I can to better inform you. I recommend you take things to go, this place is a cafeteria (pronounced in Spanish) so it is crowded and busy and the counters are not always clean. So walk in, use a menu, get your food and go home to your sweatpants. They miss you and love fried fish.

I've always ordered from here, always had great service and great food, till today. I order, the delivery guy calls me a bunch of times I tell him my address for the fifth time, after saying that he got it that he will be here, dude never brings me my food and leaves back to the restaurant. How professional, really? After making me wait for more than one hour? I'm hesitant to ever order from them again just cause of that. I call the restaurant and he made it seem it was my fault that I gave the wrong address, definitely not ordering from there any more, very disappointed with the service.

Let me just start with the food is great no doubt.. but the service is HORRIBLE it makes me not even want to order from this place. I've ordered a few times (fried salmon filet with vegetables and crab empanada). If it's not one thing it's another. BOTH TIMES they sent a shrimp empanada with my food (I am allergic to shrimp) the first time I let it go and then they did it again after I specified I do not eat shrimp. I ordered again around 8:30pm 2 days ago and they not only sent me tostones with my salmon but didn't even give me my empanada. So I called back and asked if they could deliver the rest of my food and she said they will try to send the delivery man over IF There is an order by my house.... of course there wasn't at 10:30pm... I called back anxious (salmon is nearly ice cold) and one of the many ladies who work there said they are waiting for the delivery man to come back... I called back at 11:15pm and another shift of ladies told me that the delivery man went home. Next day I called and they said I had to wait till the next day to speak to the original lady who fulfilled my order or I can come pick up my order because there's other orders from the day of ahead of mine... what type of customer service is that.. point is these people have no sense of proper customer service.. order at your own risk....

I've recently made an order from this place and had the worst experience, waiting for my order to arrive. I called the restaurant dozens of times and kept getting a busy signal. When the phone finally rang and someone answered, I was hung up on. After that I kept calling and got no response, thus I assumed my order was never going to arrive, although to my surprise, it did three hours later, after I had just gave up on waiting and decided to order from another restaurant! I refused to receive the food and explained my dilemma to the delivery man. I was very unhappy with this, and with the restaurant's lack of communication with me regarding this issue. I issued a complaint to Grubhub and unfortunately will only get back half of what I paid for the order, which I also feel like I was cheated. I will not be ordering from this place in the future.

I ordered two sushi rolls and unfortunately they were served sloppily on styrofoam plates...they started off good and they r going downhill...also when u call to order noone speaks English.

Large portions, great prices. One of the best things about this place is that it is open until the wee hours of the night. Sticks to the inside of your ribs and makes you feel at home (even if you don't have a Spanish speaking Grandma). I wasn't a fan of the lemonade. I thought it was way too sour and needed like 10 more spoonfuls of sugar LOL but that's just my preference. Overall, this is a great go-to spot when you're starving at midnight and wanting a home style hot meal at the same time.

Was craving calamari at 1:30am and this place was open as I was walking home. I went in there and asked for calamari in English and someone had to translate for me cause the lady had no idea what I was asking for. As I waited for my food, I saw what appeared to be seafood and fries being cooked in the same oil. Well, this is what happens when you get midnight cravings uptown right? I get the calamari and obviously, having been cooked in the same oil, are ridiculously salty so I couldn't finish my plate. They also don't have beer apparently. I wasn't expecting a mojito but at least a beer bottle would've been good. Would give them 1 star but it's open late and the service isn't great but it's not that bad.

I'm here at 2:30pm Thursday right now this place is super bad services everyone have bad services and actitud the person Jose he don't have no customer services because when I ask him for my food he don't know . And karina she think she is the own of the place . I don't recommend this place because the service no the food .

Food: 5 out of 10 Customer Service/Delivery: 0 out of 10 I was a guest at a family member's home and they had ordered me and my husband food for dinner from this place. We waited OVER an hour AND we're only 1 block away!! My sister-in-law called 3 times and each time was told they were on their way. Yeah... they were on their way walking one block for over an hour. o_o Anyway, when it got here, the container that held the shrimp looked like it was a bit crushed and NOT sealed properly because the liquid in the container came out to soak the paper bag. It's like the bag was tossed around. The shrimp were seasoned nicely, BUT it wasn't hot, it was a mix of cold and slight warmth. Furthermore, the shrimp were swimming in a "soup-like" substance that made the shrimp soggy. This was the liquid that soaked the paper bag (thank goodness the paper bag was in a plastic bag). I'm almost happy for the messy paper bag because that means that my container would have even more weird pale-opaque yellow liquid swimming in the container. It's like they poured everything from the pan into the container and didn't bother to let the shrimp soak/sit on a napkin to absorb the "extra" soup-like-cocktail drippings the shrimp were cooked/soaked in. The fried green plantain, were nice, but cold. In my mind, my order was made quickly after the initial call, but just sat on the counter waiting to be delivered even after 3 extra calls, and then played soccer with my order during delivery to deliver one messy order. I will not order for delivery from this place. EVER! The wait for the food was unbelievable for 1 block's distance.

Seafood is quality here! The shrimp and crab empanadas are insane and the seafood soup is amazing! It's not expensive and you are getting a perfect meal. Bon appetite

Here is a timeline of our experience: 4.20pm - order food, get told it will arrive in twenty minutes 5.00pm - call them, cheerfully ask if there'a problem. Get told it should be here any second. 5.30pm - call them, they tell us they couldn't find the place. For some reason they didn't call us. We repeat our address and ask if our food will be cold. They tell us they'll reheat it. I tell them I want fresh food and they begrudgingly agree to make it again and deliver it to us in fifteen minutes. It's now 6.05pm. I wish I could review the actual food for you, but after nearly two hours, it still has not arrived. Edit: at 6.20pm, exactly two hours after my order, the food arrived. It is disgusting. The food is cold, it's so soggy the brown paper bag is literally falling apart, and at least one of my prawns is undercooked. I'll never know if more were, because it's all already in the trash. Getting dressed and going out. This is beyond offensive, and I won't be coming back.

For the price I wasn't expecting much and while it may not be gourmet, it's pretty decent comfort food. I ordered the paella. Usually the crispy edges are my favorite part but this paella was definitely not cooked in a proper pan so no crispy edges. That said the flavor was good and the seafood much fresher than I expected! I also got some baked salmon and tosotones. The tostones were excellent. I didn't like the garlic butter on the salmon but it was also very fresh. Next time I will just order it without the garlic butter. if you're looking for a quick decent meal at a decent price this is a good option. It's in the heights, they deliver and it's not a hamburger so I'll be ordering again!
