"Calle Sol has been a cornerstone of Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood where it has fit like a glove for a few years now, but its recent expansion into SouthPark has brought new, colorful life into an otherwise professional, pragmatic area of Charlotte. Plainly put, dining at this Calle Sol — with its blend of Peruvian and Cuban dishes — is fun. The Inca cola, the robust rum bar with punchy, crushable beverages, and the swirly orange and turquoise design touches turn uninspired minimalism on its head. These details are a lovely backdrop to the Peruvian ceviche and the Chino Latino chaufas, which leave diners with leftovers in tow. And then there is the banana tres leches, which has no business being so good except that combining cake, cream, and rum caramel has a certain je ne sais quoi. Calle Sol is by far the most interesting lunch option in the area — time to impress the people, people." - Kayleigh Ruller

Went there with friends for Friday dinner. We had a last minute update and the restaurant was able to accommodate it. Our server was very nice. We ordered for 4~5 rounds as everyone arrived, and he was patient with our questions and the food was served in a timely manner. Chilled appetizers were good option in summer time! The entrees were in pretty descent portion. We shared everything and they all tasted good. Nothing really surprisingly good out of expectation, but we got what we expected. Recommend to order a cocktail.

Google
I seek out good Cuban Sandwiches and this spot has them!! I lived in South Florida for years and finding great Cuban sandwiches here is not always easy. Hands down one of the best I have ever had here in North Carolina and yes the bread is Cuban too. Fried plantains were delicious too! The price for a half Cuban and fried plantains is the absolute best price I have ever paid for any food these days much less a great Cuban. I am back for my second time as I am writing this review.

Google
Had a wonderful experience at Calle Sol! "A happy place with an excellent ambiance and an amiable staff". The "bit of Chinese influence on a Latino menu" is intriguing! It's always interesting to see culinary fusion done well. The dishes – vaca frita, stuffed avocado, pollo frita, and the black bean soup – are all classic and satisfying Latin American choices.

Google
The restaurant has a great selection of South American dishes, and the environment is warm and inviting. Our server was excellent—friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Service was impressively fast, which we appreciated. However, the biggest issue was the saltiness of the food. The dishes were extremely salty, to the point that it overpowered the flavors. If they toned down the salt, this place would be a solid go-to spot.

Google
Sat at the bar, two nights in a row and had the same bartender and the food and service were great. The bartender made some excellent recommendations. The first night, I just needed a snack so had the shrimp ceviche and came back the second night with friends and we ordered a ton of food including shrimp and tuna cerviche and the fried rice...etc. All of the food was hella good and we ended up taking leftovers. Last time I was at the hotel, this place was not there so glad they gave another option besides the place up top with the crappy service.

Google
Excellent find in the Charlotte area. The ceviche is excellent and we tried both styles of cubano sandwiches. The mocktails were delicious too. The mojo fries are great, but the salad is fantastic

Google
Hidden gem - pretty tasty Peruvian food and the dessert was to die for. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant is cozy. Parking in the area is not the easiest, but we ended up finding a space in parking garage.

Make sure you do your best to get a reservation because this place is popping! Parking is hectic too, but it’s all worth it once you’re seated with your food infront of you! Very flavorful ! Food is MUY RICO!!! Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
We hosted a company dinner here and had a great experience. The food was excellent, the ambiance was very nice and casual. Drinks were perfect. The group dining prices were also more than reasonable. I would definitely host another event here. Special shout-out to Lauren, who made the entire planning process very seamless and easy. The chef even came out after the meal to make sure everything was satisfactory. We could not have picked a better place!

Keeley M.

Yelp
What a good restaurant! The pictures and listing made it seem more like a lunch spot but this place was great for dinner. The decor is so cute and inviting, the servers were friendly, the drink list was decent, and the food was great! We got the ahi tuna ceviche which was delicious and flavorful. We also got the solterito salad which also had so much flavor and was delicious. For dinner, I got the Sol Bowl with Salmon which was also very good. My husband got the Cuban sandwich and loved it. He usually is very picky about his Cuban sandwiches but it was delicious. Overall, great restaurant, great food, great service. Will be back

Yelp
Food: always consistent at both locations. I love the Cuban bread, yuca fries, and vaca frita. Service: this location in particular struggles in this area. It's the only reason for 3 stars, as we had a poor experience. We visited on New Year's Day, arrived with our baby in tow at 3:02 PM. There were only 2 other tables seated for the duration of our experience. We were handed lunch menus, and they are separate from dinner menus, not just a section. So we chose something from their $9-13 range lunch entrees. We order and about 7 minutes later our server comes back and says we ordered from the lunch menu and that ended at 3, our entrees would now double in price. Now look, I get it ended at 3, and had I been given a dinner menu I'd have no issue. But you handed me a menu with ONLY the lunch options. To me, the proper thing would have been to offer the dinner menu as it has different options, or let us have the prices we were shown. I never got a refill on my drink and the server barely checked in after that. Disappointing.

Yelp
Phenomenal. Salchipapas = ridiculous, only feedback is It needs shoe string fries not steak cut fries The mariquitas was also ridiculously good. For our main entree we split the Cuban fries rice. Also so delicious I wish we would have ordered two.

Yelp
Decided to try Calle Sol out as I was over at Burial Brewery and it looked really good. I was beyond impressed. Food was beyond amazing and my bartender offered up several suggestions. I decided on the Cuban fried rice and I'm a lover of plantains so I had to get a side of those as well. Several people were there so I could tell right away this is a favored spot for a lot of people. I will definitely be back as I want to try more options.

Yelp
Tried Calle Sol in South Park for the first time WOW the food we order was absolutely tasty and delicious. We order from the lunch menu and the price was great . My son order the classic ceviche $15.00 was a great deal and I order the Cuban Fried Rice with chicken $14.00 was also a great deal now the portion on the Cuban Rice is plenty for two people to share it so yummy . We had sweet plantains for dessert $5.00 so tasty . Love the atmosphere. The decor and colors are cheerful and colorful enjoyable music playing in the background. Service was great. I will definitely be back

Yelp
Came to calle sol for my brothers birthday, absolutely delish!!! I got the cuban fried rice with shrimp. It was so flavorful and the shrimp had a lovely char flavor. We also got yocaquitos (amazing) and croquetas (also amazing), the true star of the apps was the cilantro aioli (11/10!!!!!). I got the pineapple mint marg and it was so refreshing. Everyones food at the table was fantastic and unique, we all shared. The portion sizes allow for leftovers! There was an incredible family feel, we loved our server kim! Shout out to her!! she was so so kind and even got my brother a bday slice of their dolce de leche specialty cheesecake and it left me speechless. Decorated really cute in there too!! I will definitely be going back:))

Yelp
A tasty and satisfying latin restaurant, one of many good restaurants in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Having spent 30 years in Miami, where I enjoyed ceviche frequently, discovering Calle Sol during a visit to Charlotte was a so exciting! Firstly, the portions were generous -- we all opted for double portions and were not disappointed. The Aji Amarillo Ceviche was a standout dish, made even more delicious by the use of Argentinian red shrimp. These shrimp, known for their lobster-like texture, added a rich depth to the ceviche that I truly appreciated. There were also many familiar Peruvian and Cuban dishes on the menu that I was already fond of. Our waiter provided exceptional service. The mariquitas with cilantro aioli were yummy. And the Cuban bread was perfectly "aplastado," Calle Sol in Charlotte not only brings a taste of Miami's vibrant food scene but also sets a high standard for quality and service. Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend stopping by to experience their excellent ceviche. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the food. I was overly excited when I saw my plate of ceviche !

Yelp
Honestly I LOVE Calle Sol and have been a fan since the original location opened in Plaza Midwood. I've been to the South Park location a couple of times now, and although I do love that it's more spacious... the SERVICE NEEDS WORK! Calle Sol better be glad their food will keep bringing me back until the end of time...it's SO DELISH!! But as for the service, I don't like it when my waiter shakes his head to tell me my drink choices off the menu were wrong. Every time we asked for something (sauce, limes, coffee, sugar, etc.) it seemed to be such a difficult ask. On this last visit, I finally figured out that we might have been rushed by our server because he was getting off his shift (got ready to leave before we got up to leave). Anyhow, this location doesn't give me the happy vibes I usually feel at the Plaza Midwood location for some reason. Hope it gets better!

Lindsay B.

Yelp
OBSESSED. My first time trying Calle Sol, I got a 1905 salad. It was good! But I can't really give a place a proper rating based on a salad. Since then, I've been back twice and I fell deeper in love with each trip. Most recently, I tried the Lomo Saltado. If you're in Charlotte, drop what you're doing and get this for lunch. It. Is. Fantastic. Juicy, tender filet mixed with charred crispy vegetables and fries swimming together in the most perfect gravy. I could not stop eating it. The leftovers were just as good the next day. YES. My friends liked the fried rice and tallerin with shrimp. Everything we tried was delicious. This particular trip, we shared a 1905 salad as an appetizer which was perfect for us. Try it if you haven't! Lomo Saltado 10/10

Yelp
Looking for brunch, my wife and I came upon this place. We love finding new spots and this one delivered. We were pleasantly greeted by Simon, as the host was serving others. He pleasantly offered a seat at the bar as we were waiting, but we waited for the table. Once we were seated, Simon took our orders and made some suggestions. I had the breakfast cuban sandwich with fries and it was delicious. My wife had the slow roasted beef. It was tender and delicious. The entire staff was pleasant and we will definitely be back. Make sure you get Simon, he's funny and as cool as a cucumber. The decor is warm and inviting.

Cierra G.

Yelp
Dined in on a Saturday around 5pm. Wait was about 1.5 hr but we grabbed seats at the bar. Bartender offered a new drink special described as a cross between a margarita and mojito 5/5 their classic mojito was also delicious 4.5/5. Ordered 2 entrees the catch of the day fish which was Chilean sea bass that night and the tallerin. Both dishes came out hot and tasty. Also a winner is the banana pudding tres leches 5/5. Everything was perfect that we experienced. Several staff members checked on us and everyone was friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Rose S.

Yelp
Server took a lot of time to review the menu and highlighted why each dish would be great. Started with the yucca stuffed with cheese with cilantro aioli. Loved the aioli - def added flavor. The cheese not sure the flavor but it didn't have much. The fry on the balls was light and they had just the right amount of crisp. I wasn't in the mood for ceviche so went for the Cuban fried rice. This would be a great complement to a meal sharing with others but ill advised as a meal in itself. That was my bad! There isn't enough stuff in the rice like the pineapple or the chicken. So it tastes like soy sauce and rice. It's a great little addition to South Park w/its vibrant colors and reasonable prices. Will definitely be back to try the ceviche!

Cristina R.

Yelp
¡Bienvenidos a SouthPark, Calle Sol! We're SO happy you're here to bless us with delicious Cuban & Peruvian food in a bright, Miami-style space! They're still in their soft opening. Reservations were simple to make online, and the staff were so helpful and friendly, providing recommendations and checking on us multiple times. The vaca frita is my ultimate comfort food, and I'm already planning what I'll order next time. Free parking in the deck attached to the hotel (unlike the mess that is parking at their Plaza Midwood location). ¡Nos vemos pronto!

Scott D.

Yelp
Couldn't ask for a better experience. The food was all incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. Fun decor and atmosphere, great value and phenomenal service. Travis was our server and went out of his way to make sure we had a great meal. Don't hesitate to give Calle Sol a try

Evan D.

Yelp
Was in town for an appointment and a friend who lives in South Park wanted to try it out. I had been to and enjoyed the Plaza Midwood location a few years back so was happy to try this new location out for lunch. They don't have the steam table for lunch which was a bit of a bummer but they do have $9 lunch specials which seemed like a good deal. As it was our big meal for the day my wife and I decided to try the Sol Bowl and the Nikkei bowl -- both grain and meat bowls. The Sol Bowl was a pretty sizable couple of pieces of salmon with roasted sweet potato, sliced avocado, a cabbage slaw and a mound of quinoa. It was a lot of food and the salmon was excellent. I'm not sure if it worked terribly well as a cohesive dish but each constituent part was very good. The Nikkei Bowl was basically a poké bowl and my wife really loved it. Service was excellent and the ambiance was fine -- I mean how interesting can a place be if it's stuck in one of the many nameless mixed use buildings in South Park. My friend who lives nearby loved his food as well and will definitely return

Yelp
Me and my husband had a wonderful experience, our server James took really good care of us and was super professional. He made great recommendations and I can't stress enough how amazing the food is!!! The decor is awesome and you can tell they pay attention to all the details. The manager Sean is great and will make sure everyone feels welcome and is happy. If you haven't yet, try this place. The best of Charlotte for sure. 10/10.

Olga I.

Yelp
Nice new place. Love the decor and ambience. Drinks are really tasty and creative, 5 stars for ceviche. The only negative is that main entrees are are a little salty. Easy parking! Will come again.

Kristie H.

Yelp
Delicious lunch! Great service and fun atmosphere. Everything tasted fresh! This is a hidden gem.

Briana T.

Yelp
The ceviche & drinks were not to be missed. I'm not a huge ceviche fan but at the recommendation of our server I tried it with the white fish. It was fragrant & very fresh. Great service. Attentive enough without approaching you too much.

Heather W.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I'm a little disappointed they didn't have everything to make all of the drinks on the menu, but as a new restaurant, I understand. Inside is very modern. I'll definitely be going back.

Ted G.

Yelp
I was expecting to be pleased when having dinner at the new location. There were three of us- one had never been to the original location, but two have multiple times. Our server, Selina, was charming and professional. Unfortunately all of us felt main courses were way too salty. That included a pork dish (lechon asado), a beef dish (vaca frita) and a shrimp dish. The appetizer of croquetas was excellent. Oddly enough, the Tallerin I had last time at the original location was also salty- and after that I didn't see a need to return right away but I thought it was just that one time. Now I'm not so sure. Don't think I need to try again anytime soon. The setting was great and it was a happy place to be. But if I dislike my meal and don't want to take leftovers home (50% was left on both beef and pork dishes) it's just not worth returning. Others may feel differently and maybe less salt can be used in the many hours marinating process for the meats.

Nan H.

Yelp
Food was fantastic, service good and atmosphere fun! The banana pudding tres leches cake was yummy!

Phil T.

Yelp
We recently had dinner there and enjoyed our meal. I had the Tampa Cubano sandwich and my wife had the Vaca Frita. Both meals were very good. We also had the Classic Ceviche which was just ok and a couple of Margaritas which were pretty good. The atmosphere was lively and our server James did an excellent job. We were given a complimentary dessert which was delicious. We will return soon.

M T.

Yelp
Excellent service and flavorful food. Bright colored decor makes you feel you're in a tropical destination rather than in a hotel restaurant.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Went there for a family birthday dinner and would highly recommend, both food and service were excellent, as nice variety of main dishes with some adult beverages to complement the evening.

Cindee D.

Yelp
Service was great, food fresh & seasoned well! Been going there at least twice a week for lunch since they opened. Happy Southpark has a new venue to eat at!!

Mark I.

Yelp
Salchipapas caught me off guard, 10/10. The huancaina pasta was good 8/10. Got the shrimp mojo, tasted good but really wish there was more shrimp and sauce compared to the rice as I paid $20 for it 7.5/10.

Nicholas U.

Yelp
We love Calle Sol, one of our go to Charlotte spots! The fried rice is my go to but the Cubanos are also great!

Matt H.

Yelp
We got last-minute reservations on a Friday night. We waited a little while longer than we should have, but the manager was incredibly apologetic and proactively brought us an appetizer soon after we sat down. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the vibe was fun and relaxed. I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu.

Rossana J.

Yelp
I realized an item was missing hours after I got home, reached out to the restaurant through their website about what happened since it didn't seem like an urgent matter, it's been almost a month and I never got any sort of response from anyone. Food was good but sadly I wont be returning since they didn't care enough to even acknowledge my message.

M K.

Yelp
We've been to both and love each!! The food and service is the best!! Very good prices as well! A definite GoTo for us!!

LaKita H.

Yelp
Perfecto! Highly recommend! The pescado a lo macho was delectable -- catch = sea bass. PJ's service was superb throughout my dining experience -- also, gave great recommendations.

M K.

Yelp
Excellent food and service (especially Raven and JC). Very nice to have both Peruvian and Cuban inspired dishes. Everything fresh and delicious. Thanks for making our first visit so special. We will be back soon!

Rene M.

Yelp
When we first walked in, the atmosphere felt good, upbeat, and it was clean. The service was good, but I hoped the waitress was slightly more attentive. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the pollo a la plancha! The size of the chicken was on the smaller end, but everything else was good. The chicken tasted fantastic, the fires were good, and salad was very good. I highly recommend coming here if you want fresh, great quality, and a tasty meal!

Jenna M.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in CLT. A Staple for my friends and I. Way underpriced for the quality of food- Cute cafe with a sun room. Usually AC on blast so bring a jacket! Food is always always always 10/10. They fly in their tuna from Miami for their ceviche. Servers and management are so kind and helpful. This place is my #1 suggestion. I order the chicken chaufa, chicken tallerin, tuna ceviche, and the chopped salad with lime and oil.

Glenda C.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Service was outstanding. The food is excellent. We had more than enough room for a table of 6. I will be returning very soon!

G L.

Yelp
I am so glad that Calle Sol decided to open up a Southpark location! While really enjoyed the original location, I do believe that the food and service are even better here. Not to mention parking! Our server was awesome and the manager was also very attentive. We took my mom here for the first time and she loved it. We had the ropa vieja and lechón; all was excellent. Make sure to try the Key lime pie! We will definitely make this Calle Sol a favorite spot going forward!

Karen P.

Yelp
Great food and service! Good portions, fair price. Everyone was extremely warm and hospitable.

Holly D.

Yelp
We had the pork family meal to go. It was served with black beans. Also included was a salad with chick peas, tomatoes, corn, and avocado.

Caroline C.

Yelp
10/10 ambiance. Unparalleled service. Best ceviche in Charlotte. I'm so glad to have this gem in SouthPark!

Ethan C.

Yelp
We have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new South Park location and it did not disappoint. All the great food (vaca frita always hits the spot) we love from the original location, in a warm, open space. We can't wait to go back!
