"The original house dates back to 1905, and by the ’40s it had established itself as a resort, well in advance of the Catskills boom of the Sixties. It’s always been known for its singularly laid-back, laissez-faire atmosphere, and the slogan “a friendly place for nice people” is as true now as it was then. And while today’s Callicoon Hills retains its delightful throwback atmosphere, it’s right at home in the boutique-hotel era of the 21st century." - Mitchell Friedman

Beautiful surroundings—cute pond and gorgeous barn that we had to ourselves all afternoon during our 1-night stay in mid-September. Beautiful wedding venue. The pool was still open but otherwise it was clear they were winding down. In fact, I was convinced they were about to close for winter (they’re open year round) as there were almost no staff and the dining room was out of a few dishes. ||Room was cute with plenty of hooks, lighting options, eco-friendly products, glass cups and refillable carafe. Hardware was falling out of the wall in the bathroom. ||We stayed in a hilltop cabin and the hike up to the room was brutal and we’re in-shape! They offered a golf cart for our luggage and we declined—take the golf cart! The room was up the hill from the fire pit (s’more provisions provided!) so it was loud up until quiet hours even though there were very few people staying there. Got hot in the middle of the night and couldn’t get the mini-split to work but that could have been user error. ||A lot of the landscaping and updates looked new and cute but I’m not sure they’ll age well. ||Went to check out the A-frames bc we almost booked one and were glad we didn’t. The bathrooms are at the far end of the cluster, rather than centrally located, though they are private with a shower, sink and toilet in each “stall”. I was a bit concerned by the top from the threshold of the a-frames to the ground with no stairs or railing. If you’re short, it might be treacherous.

As a wedding venue, this one exceeds expectations. The experience as a guest at the wedding and a guest of the hotel was incredible. Every little detail in my guest room was curated to create a timeless midcentury modern Catskills dream. The hotel guidebook was designed beautifully and had an adorable scavenger hunt within it. The furniture in the rooms and the common spaces, the Barn event venue and marriage circle, the clean mountain air all would’ve been sufficient to make for a beautiful weekend. The DELICIOUS food, drinks, and service took it over the top. I enjoyed my time so much that I immediately booked to go back in a few weeks when it’s cooler outside! See you soon, Callicoon Hills!

The location and grounds are lovely. But I was disappointed that breakfast was not included, especially for the price we paid. There was no convenient place to get breakfast anywhere nearby. Also, there was free coffee in the morning, but no tea! No hot water for tea and no teabags. Which we found odd. Also, the common rooms in the main lodge are so beautiful and cozy, but I couldn't use them at all, because music blasts 24 hours a day there, even first thing in the morning, and I went there seeking SILENCE. Not constant music! It made it impossible to drink coffee and read or write in peace. Please, please, consider not piping music into your common spaces? It ruins them. I loved the yoga deck. At least it was quiet! While our A frame was cozy, the screen door didn't fasten properly - a zipper would be far more efficient and sturdy than the weird magnetic thing that was hard to close and didn't stay closed. I also don't understand why there are not screened windows or doors on two sides of the A frame, so that breezes can pass through. It felt stifling with no ventilation available from screened windows! Or anywhere. Also, the communal bathrooms were nice and well equipped, but they were not cleaned even once over the four days we were there. The trash just kept piling up. Bathrooms really need to be cleaned daily, especially communal ones! Okay, one last significant issue: The campus is not properly maintained to prevent bears from being attracted to it. There were trash cans outside full of food with just loose lids. A buffet for bears! You ought to tell people not to keep food in their A frames, and to make sure that any food is properly disposed of in sealed containers. Everywhere else I stay upstate observes this bear-safe protocol. It was strange that there were no instructions about this. This could be such a lovely place to stay, but the loud and constant music, lack of breakfast, and dirty bathrooms mean I am unlikely to return.

We were in the area for a concert - normally when we travel for shows we are in and out, not allowing for any time to enjoy the properties we stay at or the areas surrounding the concerts. We decided to take a little more time on this trip and we are so glad we did because Callicoon Hills has so much to offer! The property is gorgeous, the A-Frame we stayed in was right up our alley, the food was delicious and the staff was some of the best we've ever experienced. The property has so much to offer from swimming to a fitness area, sitting areas (inside and out) and it is very close to a ton of hiking. On top of that, they have some really great music playing throughout the common areas! 11 out of 10 would recommend!

Wonderful experience with this hotel. We originally booked an A Frame room. After realizing that it was a 12 minute hike up a hill, we decided to see if there was a way to upgrade to a more traditional room. They were incredibly accommodating, and gave us no issues about upgrading to the pool house. Both rooms were nice in their own right, the pool house just fit our needs better—as we were not dressed appropriately to walk through the woods. Very excited to go back.

We loved Callicoon Hills. It was exactly what we needed before our wedding weekend to relax, enjoy nature, workout at the indoor/outdoor gym, use the walking paths, sit by the water, lay by the pool, etc. The food onsite was exceptional & the restaurant food. We made some amazing memories and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

This is a giant never again for me. Even if the property isnt “my vibe” - a decent staff is still required. aside from literally one employee, the rest of the staff I encountered was terrible at troubleshooting, generally uninterested in being helpful, extremely unaccommodating, and lacked basic care and understanding of service. I have several specific examples of this, which I’m hoping to share with management if they ever call me back. Here are a few, but I’m leaving out my largest issue: ||||1) My request for a mini fridge were ignored even though I asked two weeks prior to our arrival||||2) they did not have, nor could you purchase some basic human needs and were told to go to go to the dollar store (um no, YOU dont have the products… YOU go to the dollar store wtf)||||3) unwilling to get my pregnant friend ice||||4) served cold food||||5) I was at a wedding and they sliced up 2 steaks for a table of 10 - we had to ask for more like we were Oliver Twist. ||||6) Brunch was understaffed and food wasnt good - it took nearly an hour to get 4 orders of eggs. || ||7) Not a salt shaker to be found. ||||8)they ran out of butter the final day. ||||9) the brunch the final day was buffet style and im not kidding, the scrambled eggs were hard (huh lol) and grey. yes, GREY. ||||while, the property is nice, it is very hilly. So my advice to anyone is to make sure that you are OK with lots of hills and uneven terrain. Definitely make sure you ask questions about where your room is in relation to hills and accessibility options.||||It’s pretty… But what is happening here lol.

Our stay was in pool house room 333. We woke up to an abundance of ants in the corner of our room which seemed to have come through a hole in the floor, there was a gap under the door that also could have been where they came from. The resort is in a beautiful location. However we were overall fairly disappointed in our stay. I did contact the resort privately but they chose not to respond.

Yelp
I went on a girls' getaway in February and we had quite the experience. If you want to disconnect from tech and reconnect with nature or self, then Callicoon Hills is the place for you. It is amazing how much fun you can truly have when you eliminate the distractions that can keep you from living in the present. Our room looked and felt serene. There were no TVs or phones. We were shocked but we knew that it would motivate us to explore the property and quaint town. Callicoon Hills was picturesque with units in buildings scattered across the 23-acre property. We stayed in the Pool House, which was close to the Rise & Grind Coffee Shop and the Conover Club in the Boarding House (the activity hub). Jessica was super helpful with helping us get settled in. Ooh, you will love the hot chocolate. I wish we made the time to sit by the bonfire pits for nightly s'mores. I appreciated the thoughtfulness behind the complimentary blankets. As working moms on different levels, we were eager to try the yoga class together. Our instructor, Kyle, put us at ease by fostering a safe, judgment-free environment. We laughed a lot as we realized our physical limitations yet did our best with modifications, of course. Full disclosure: I am afraid of heights. So I was nervous about climbing an incline to the gym (aka the impromptu cardio workout) but wanted to try a Peloton bike. Sadly, I was better off staying on the ground level. Brrr...the heaters will take a while to warm up the space. Following the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were hand sanitizers, wipes, or sprays to clean the equipment or mats before and after use. If you are not already a Peloton subscriber, the bikes require a credit card to initiate a trial subscription. Bummer, I had no cards on hand. So I kept it to the usual -- a stationary bike and treadmill. I do not recommend arriving at night, because it was a scary drive -- with highs, lows, and limited signage. Thankfully, we had an experienced driver at the wheel to ensure we arrived safely while I managed my anxiety. The daylight drives were amazing yet nerve-wracking lol. With a few minor improvements, I do not see why we would not visit again in the summer or fall to enjoy the pool and foliage. I will stay local and they can explore the hiking trails lol.

Yelp
Callicoon Hills was just what my family needed! We made a fleet of these tiny cozy cabins nestled in the middle of the beautiful woods home for the weekend. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the build of the A-frame cabins were perfectly adequate for some hardcore peaceful sleeping. With the floor to ceiling window at the head of the bed, I felt both the safety and comfort of a luxury cabin, while also feeling connected to nature, as if there were no walls around me. The amenities in the very clean bathrooms were so nice, with high end soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. The grounds of the resort had plenty to do like really nice hiking trails, a dining hall with great local beers, a gym and a steam sauna that I made a lot of use of. The fire pits were perfect for connecting and making forever memories with my family. The staff were all so lovely, attentive, and discreet, allowing for us to feel a certain amount of freedom without feeling too supervised. I can't recommend this place enough for a group of friends, family, or even a solo or couples adventure.

Yelp
the wifi is terrible unless you are at the center. the units we had ran out of hot water. the plumber stated that although the place had been remodeled they did not put in a large enough water heater. he said they had been told this but did not because they need to upgrade their electrical system and they do not have propane service nor natural gas service at this location. however, the personnel at the location are great to deal with, just need the support of the owners, a hedge fund.
