Where to Drink Cocktails in New Orleans Right Now

"This friendly spot in the former home of the neighborhood-driven Cowbell is not just a brewery — it serves wine, cocktails, and its own food menu as well — a refreshing break from monitoring the pop-up schedules of most local breweries. Calliope Beer Works, from Richard Szydlo, opened in August 2023 with stellar frozen cocktails as well as a few classics, like an Aviation and a melon daiquiri. The wine list highlights sustainability-focused producers (and is heavy on women-owned wines), and the food menu is eclectic. After a few months of serving guest beers, the brewpub launches its own lineup on November 11." - Clair Lorell

Such a wonderful experience. The food was amazing! Great cocktails! Fantastic service. Fried fungi fingers were perfect, the balsamic drizzle made a huge impact. Dining with a chicken & waffles connoisseur,-it was on point! I had Portobello cheessteak- Omg! It was delicious! The Aviator cocktail was perfect. I am looking forward to coming back for the beer 🍺. I know it will beat all expectations.

I went to Calliope Beer Works on Friday and it's truly a hidden gem in NOLA! I got the pretzel bites and the pimento grilled cheese with fries. The pretzel bites were amazing and come with the best beer cheese dipping you'll ever had. But the best thing on the menu are the fries... OH MY GOD! Literally the crispiest fries you will ever have - a MUST try. The atmosphere was perfect for a post-work drink with your friends and they have happy hour every day. The service was amazing and Farrah & Roi were quick to take my order and bring out my food. This place is a MUST GO if you're in the city.

Microbrewery meets fine dining? I'm new to the neighborhood and moved to the area feeling confident that I'd chosen an apartment near a quality craft brewery. My first visit went really poorly. First of all, there's no outside food allowed, which is totally fine, but I couldn't find this info out online before I arrived. So I arrived with some takeout, ordered some beer (served in a plastic cup), and was asked to sit outside. I went outside to a type of foyer area with high table and proceeded to have dinner. Soon after, the proprietor came out and asked me to move even further away, to the picnic tables. This seemed silly and unnecessary, as there weren't many customers around and no one seemed to notice. It was an unusually chilly night and I had just a long sleeve shirt on, so it was doubly callous. I finished my food and beer in the car before leaving. Overall, for a brewery, it's focused more on the food it serves. That's fine, but it's unusual, as most craft breweries allow you to bring food in or have a food truck outside. Most importantly, the proprietor seems to lack some basic social skills and tact. He could've had a loyal local customer for the next year. Instead, I'll just stick to Miel or Second Line. Bonus info: they only seem to serve light beers (under 5%). That's also odd. I've only come across that in England where lower ABV beers are taxed less...

Finally had a chance to go over and taste their beers. They have 4 of their own beers on tap and we had three of them. They are a tad undercarbobated, I think, but considering this is one of their first beers with a new system, this is a great start. Very much looking forward to more of the beers.

Hidden gem! Great football specials. Staff is super friendly. Owner makes an extra effort to chat with all customers. Highly recommend breakfast burritos, jerk chicken nachos, and fried jalapeños ! Dog friendly outside ! Brewery opening in a few weeks!

Google
They finally have their own beers on tap although there's only four to start. The beers are solid and the food menu is decent and the food is solid as well. I can't wait until they get more beers on tap.

Google
What I liked most was the staff! They had a friendly - but absolutely non-patronizing - way with us. But the vibe was good, too. Like a “go ahead and be your dorky self” vibe. But if you are not naturally dorky you don’t have to dork. I don’t want to discourage the dorkless from checking it out! I hope you go!

Google
It’s really sad. Took ages for them to finally have their own beer, which is ok. The menu is very limited and seems to primarily be greasy bar food. They don’t seem to have a customer base, and the place is mostly empty. They have pleas on social media to support them, but it’s unfortunately hard to see a compelling reason why when there are so many other choices.

Yelp
Cute little place at the end of Oak! Had a great chance to speak with Marcus while hanging out mid dog walk. Loved chatting and learning about the place, even though I didn't go inside,l. However, the outside was cute and has a good cross breeze from being on the corner near the levee. For whatever reason, the frozen adult lemonade wasn't happening, but the frozen painkiller was recommended and it was delicious. The dog water was fresh, the pretzel bites were yummy, I could hear the TVs (from inside) over the speakers, and it was a great break before heading back home. I'm excited to head back when actually hungry and ready to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Service was good. Beer was ok. We really wanted to send the food back. Do not get the jerk chicken sandwich or fungi fingers. I have hopes they will improve and know they are a new business.

Yelp
Good beer selection, house-crafted beers, in a wide range of styles. Service was attentive and helpful. I loved the open air atmosphere on the patio with a view of a verdant levee bank and an occasional train. A convivial spot for conversations with friends. No blathering loudmouths and bigscreen televisions. My new goto beer joint!

Yelp
Service is great - very friendly. Very good local beer on tap - sitting outside, watching the sun go down over the levee - pretty nice!
